Awesome footage. Bob was absolutely the Best. Always an underdog with his Ford, he was usually the Only one with a Ford, Ricky Smith drove a Ford also, but wasn't at most of the races. Bob will always be my favorite Drag Racer, he was such a hard worker, and it showed. He simply dominated the Pro Stock class. Bob, Etta, Billy, and Rusty were quite a team. RIP Bob, you will always be the Best. You are truly missed.
Thanks for posting this. I used to watch this on loop as a kid. To the point that my parents would hide the tape. I still have the VHS some where in storage. Can’t wait to start showing my son the legend and Ford master Bob Glidden.
Thanks for this great video on Ford racing cars, especially the Glidden family!!! Being from In and a life long Ford fan,i loved going to watch the US NATIONALS & all the Ford's run, especially when seeing Bob win!!! RIP Bob,sincerest condolences to his family &friends.
My Gawd! I raced with Glidden when he was in ss/f with the Mustang in late 60's or early 70's. (twas b4 the ss/stk "realignment" and pro stock). stk & ss were usually run in "combos" @ most local trax.. & they paid $75- $150 to win depending on class size . (few would even unload for that now but, we took what we could get) I got to see Bob fly by me wif his brake lites a shinin many times.really pist me off too! (insert laff trak) we went to Indy Raceway Park (Lucas Oil now,) for a pre season tune & test & every1 else was thrashin to get close to their Natl Records as usual. ( no indexing then, you were handicapped on class natl record that changed 2 or 3 times a year everywhere, & were happy to be within .25sec) Meanwhile, Bob pulls off the trailer cold & runs like .11 under, loads up & goes home to tear down, cuz it ran "horrible"... I learned to dislike "class acts" that day....*chuckle.* R.I.P. my friend, I hope 1 day we can knock back a Pepsi or 2 again & tell more lies ! lol
Bob was a true Champion 🏆 And the Glidden family was the best, hard working family in drag racing. They sure made us Ford people proud.....RIP Bob, we sure do miss you
"Bob & Etta Glidden" as a "Husband and Wife Team"..... Allowed the "Drag Racing World" to Experience "True Professional Sportsmanship", "How To Be A Winner", and be "Highly Respected Champions" not only from their Fans, But Their Competition Also. "Rest In Peace My Friend"...…...

I always wanted to build up a 87-88 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe, just like he ran in 87-88 Those were my favorite of Bob's cars, Red and White with the Motorcraft logo. Seen him many times running at Englishtown throughout the 80,s and 90,s Bob was the Best.
I'm a Mopar Dude, But Mr.Glidden had an illustrious Career with Ford, but in 1979 with Mopar, but back with Ford in 1979!!! I appreciate you Mr.Glidden!!! Mopar Nate, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania R.I.P
Men like Bob Glidden are a very rare breed and his wife could drive a car also a true gentleman to the sport of drag racing wish alot More of today's drivers was like him
I remember Bob coming to Va and buying all of Tex Shultz 429 stuff that he had after Tex changed to funny cars with his daughters Roberta and Linda . just happen to be there that day was great to stand close t sombody who i read about in magazines and he carried the ford banner which i was a ford guy . thanks for the memories bob
the rear end = very important correct power to each side is where a straight line launch counts = lot`s of work and what great motors ! - thank you bob drag racing loved it all ! At 15:00 you are seeing a 427 sohc engine tear down ! rather nice.
He was a true champion who never ran from a challenge. Even when a certain brand of auto maker politiced against him thru rule changes weekly to try and make him uncompetitive. If GM sold rocket engines on their factory cars. NHRA would allow GM rockets to compete against mopars and fords. But try and do that if your not a GM guy. And you would be givin a 250 weight penalty weekly. But not if it was a GM rocket motor. Fock NHRA. And Bob Gliddens 85 wins were done in shorter time period than anyone else. He ran PRO STOCK from 1973 till 1997. If you look how many races he entered and how many of them he won. They all wished his death.
What can a person say about "Mad Dog," that hasnt already been said? Thx for showing us- 2 digit IQ guys, like myself... That if you Out WORK the competition all day, all nite, no vacations, & racing 3 nites a week @times... To driving 700 miles bk & forth from Canada to US & Bk, to points meets & National Events, only too win or runner up in both, in same weekend, sheesh !! Just to get it done. He drove the chevy and dodge and AMC guys crazy they had a very hard time to beat him I’m a Cleveland guy for long time it’s all in the heads only ford small block with production canted valve heads 4v closed chamber plus those huge 2.19 intake valves
Ford put a small block into production with racing heads on it in late 1969. The 351 Cleveland, Bob Glidden caused upper management at Chevrolet toMarch upstairs to the tower at a lot of racetracks to try and shut that little small block down, it didn't work..lol
mgraber1 9 inch ford rear end is the ring gears size. The drop out center section is held to the housing by 12 bolts. For you think he had a 12 bolt chevy rear end in his car tells me your a bowtie boy. Check your facts before you make a idiot of yourself. It was Lee Shepard ran a ford rear end in his ps camaro along with 98% of all pro stockers did.
@@jongallant6054 Actually, a Ford 9" has ten studs that hold the center section in the housing and ten bolts that hold the ring gear to the carrier. So much for telling someone else to check his facts....
@@jongallant6054 Wrong, there are 10 studs and nuts that hold the center chuck to the housing. How's that for your 12 Bolt theory. Get your facts straight before you shoot off your mouth, and make yourself look stupid.
Back when Pro Stock was Pro Stock. Today's Pro Stock is a total joke! NHRA'S favoritism towards GM has been slowly killing the class since the middle 90's, which explains why NHRA is losing fans! The Pro Stock class is what the fans mainly came to see. The factory wars, FORD vs chivy-let vs slopar. Today's Pro Stock is a joke, and boring AF! Be that as it may, Bob and Dyno were my all time faves! RIP Bob and Dyno.
Did they train all the GM and MOPAR guys to say that? We understand, it's hard admitting FoMoCo > the rest. He out muscled everyone fair and square and your crying will never change history.
Never liked top fuel, funny cars. It's not even a car. Tubed chassis, no transmission. Never figured out what that proves. All car no driving. I could teach a 12 year old to hold a steering wheel.
