At least I hope they put a good quality IPS LCD, there's some that while ofc not on the level of an OLED, they are not too far off with impressive contrast for an LCD but they seem to be rare as most OEMs and stuff cheap out
They are doing it so that they can have forced obsolescence, 2 to 3 years after a 'new' oled will emerge. Vote with your wallet and don't buy one until it's oled
Don't know if the Nintendo Switch cartridges (technically they're Game Cards) are faster than discs, but they're not in the same level compared to how fast games load on the PS5, and they don't function the same way as cartridges worked in previous Nintendo consoles. In regards to the possible stick drifting problems, well that depends on the manufacturer, Nintendo gets it sticks from the same company that provides sticks for other consoles and even on bigger controller they began drifting the more people use them
@@whiterunguard4717we'll see if Nintendo is going to implement some sort of fast-loading technology like their competitors, though I would't count on it
Agreed. It likely won't be the really nice mini led though. Lower end oleds don't put out as good of pictures as higher end lcd these days. As long as they didn't use a really cheap lcd it should be pretty decent.
@@psylencecy no legit citation, PSVita came out with OLED, then removed it... so souce? phones don't do this shit, they may relase new colors half way though life cycle, but not a new screen.
I feel like hitting a mass market price point is essential for the initial lineup. If they end up having a premium model alongside it, all the better, but I'd be okay trading it off for a larger screen if that's the only model.
For me there are 2 selling points. Backwards compatibility including the original switch cartridges and my joy cons working with the new system as well. When a set of joy cons are 80 dollars they had better work.
I doubt joycons will be backwards compatible since the new console will have a different form factor. At best they might be backwards compatible wirelessly, but I wouldn't count on it. Actual controllers are better than joycons with or without the grip anyway, and decent ones aren't that expensive. Also, the switch has awful ergonomics in handheld, so I personally would prefer a more ergonomic redesign of the joycons over backwards compatibility.
If they didn't have that stuff backwards compatible that'd be such a dealbreaker. Now that the Steam Deck is a thing and handheld PCs are an option, it's harder to compete without it. Previous handheld consoles could get away without it because they were the only game in town, but now they're not. And with handheld PCs already having a bigger library than the Switch thanks to the lack of proprietary hardware and a library of games that spans decades, the last thing the Switch 2 needs is being unable to handle something as basic as previous generation hardware.
Another thing that makes joycon backwards compatibility unlikely is the fact that the switch doesn't have analogue triggers, because I think I can speak for most people when I say I hope the next console does.
I actually think we don’t get an official reveal until April and get a September release. You don’t kill first quarter sales and have the entire last quarter mostly for the switch 2. I bet they could sell out 10-20mil units in that time
Also they aint movin switch 2 units on tech alone. They will need strong lineup of launch titles to push the system. Sure it will have backward compatible switch 1 games but if theres no graphical enhancements for older titles it will be a tough sell
Theres nothing wrong with a lcd display for a portable. The screen on the portal is just fine, dark games are a bit of a issue sometimes but overall lcd is solid.
People are already complaining that it might ‘only’ be PS4 graphics equivelant. Nevermind that most 1000 dollar PC handhelds still do not hit full current gen console visuals. Nintendo needs to sell this thing at console pricing while cramming as much as they can into it. It’s the same reason the OG Steam Deck had an LCD screen and Nintendo could do something similar (which would line up with the Deck’s PS4 Pro level graphics) at around 500 bucks. The Deck OLED model starts at almost 600 and that’s just too much, and we know Valve takes a loss on these as is which Nintendo has historically not wanted to do with their consoles the way XBox and Sony might. So to get that price point they need LCD. They can sell the OLED later as an ‘upgrade’. And they can get more hardware in it that isn’t the screen for the price point. It’s a handheld. People are being unrealistic in their list of demands for it and it just cannot meet them all and still be console pricing.
So heres the thing with how nintendo differs with valve. They are selling a console handheld that only plays games. Valve is selling games for a mini pc thats shaped like a handheld. If nintendo were to make a mini pc like handheld it would make it easier for ppl who pirate to crack their games. Also no profit to be made when your biggest income is from sellin the games
Let's keep in mind, that new LCD can be way way better than the 2017's OG Switchs LCD. Also it makes sense, they probably want to keep the initial release cheap to build a install base. And a simultaious release wouldn't make sense, since nintendo would probably have to design the internals of the systems in a significatly different way to include an OLED.
It doesn't change Internals. The only issue with OLED is it consumes a little more power and it's a lot more expensive. The only reason not to have an OLED version at first is they need millions, they won't know which version is most important and it would affect supply chain, so it's better to optimize supply chain and cost issues in the first year until they get a picture of how much chance they can take and know they can afford to split production and set up a second supply chain. Nintendo isn't like sony where they are used to having 100s of products they bring together in their system.
@@waltermh111 I heard somewhere that they would need a design that is significantly different enough, that it would not make sense to release both OLED and LCD at the same time (from the start) But thank you for the explanation
@mr.random3943 Why would a design have to be that different? There isn't any difference in design between the switch lcd and oled. The difference between the two screen types is only on the microscopic level
@@waltermh111 I know that the way different panels are lit and get color differs between different panel types. Ithought maybe an OLED was thicker ... but then again, I am no expert.
I always figured going back to LCD to reduce costs on the initial model was the obvious move. OLED is noticably better, don't get me wrong, but I don't think most consumers care nearly as much as enthusiasts.
The thing is, the early adopters of the potential switch 2 will be the enthusiasts. Most will stick with their original switch, especially with the probability that it'll get support for another two years I do agree it's the obvious move, but it's just a bit disappointing, as an OLED owner I don't wanna go back to LCD. Hopefully we get an OLED version at launch as apposed to later down the line
There are some really high quality IPS LCD screens these days. The one on the original swich is 7 years old now so of course technology has move on significantly since then. I agree it'll be a downgrade but I don't see it being anywhere near as bad as the current non-oled switch
Majority of Switch owners are handheld gamers. It's disappointing that LCD panels will be used for the Switch 2. Many people like the Oled panel on the Switch. Does Nintendo really expect that all Oled Switch players will go back to LCD? They should just offer more than 1 model with different screen technologies and specs.
In my household me and my brother play on his Switch mostly in *TV/docked mode,* so no we don't care about the screen type, just *improved performance* is all we want from Nintendo's next system (in addition to the return of home screen themes, eShop music and being able to back-up our saves locally using a USB flash drive).
LCD sucks vs OLED, but the price I’m sure Nintendo wants to hit doesn’t allow them to use OLED. I’d pay that higher price point however most people I’m sure wouldn’t.
I wouldn't say it sucks vs oled. Oled is a little better sure but not so good lcd suddenly sucks in comparison. Mostly depends on the quality of the lcd you're comparing it to.
@@jimmycarpenter6612 I totally agree to you. Also it appears LCD is a little more durable/resistant and easier too exchange - makes sense for a console that many smaller kids want to use too to focus a little more on these things.
@HustlerHorstRuediger exactly. I'll never understand how people will get a new piece of technology and all of sudden anything that was around before just sucks lol. 4k released and suddenly people acted as if playing something at 1080p is just not reasonable because it looks so terrible. Something releases and loads .5 seconds quicker? The old one sucks now lol.
@@jimmycarpenter6612no, it quite literally does suck in comparison. The exact opposite of what you say is true lmao. It is so much better that going LCD is in fact an enormous mistake.
I’m fine with LCD. Just used the regular switch with that anyways. So I’m going from LCD…to LCD. Keep the cost reasonable out of the gate. Can throw out an OLED later. Have a Vita. I get that people love OLED. But it’s not that big a deal. I’m far more interested in how much power it’ll have, physical carts being used, etc.
Yeah but why waste money on one off the bat that isn't cutting edge? You'll probably have to sell the old one at a loss and get the OLED model. Just being real I can pass until they have an OLED. There's many benefits to OLED.
Oled dont matter if you play docked. I have an ips 1080p lcd on my rog ally and i play palworld. It looks fine to me and i play on minimum brightness setting to conserve battery life
This 8 inch screen seem to be exactly what is in the playstation portal. Can we be 100% sure on this report as it seems based on manufacturers not on who is buying. In fact every report going back to last year could mean the portal rather than the switch.
No, we can not. This particular bloomburg author likes to inject his own theories and speculation into his sources mouth and present it as if that's what his sources said. His penchant for this was a main driving force of the switch pro hoax. The source, omdia, is behind a paywall, so none of use can check and see if what he's claiming they said, was actually they said.
The PlayStation portal screen is absolutely beautiful (when it’s connecting), especially compared to the original Switch. It’s like night and day. So while I’ll always prefer OLED, I don’t think this is the downgrade people think it is
I love OLED but personally never bothered to upgrade my Switch from the launch version as I always thought the 2 would be just around the corner... they've taken their sweet time. Also don't use my Switch enough in handheld to justify it if its the only upgrade.
@@thomassantiago4084 Yep don't really care about the colours looking better if it can't run its games at an acceptable standard anyway. Also you only get OLED for 50% of use cases anyway, if you have an OLED TV / Monitor you already have that. I see the value if you're a primary handheld user rather than a mixed or docked one.
An accurate laminated IPS screen is completely fine. I don't know if that's what it'll be, as long as it's NOT like the non OLED Steam Deck screen. I go from an OLED to a good IPS LCD screen all the time so the difference is not that jarring, imo.
@@dannydesperado9211 first, i dont live in the US so idk the internal situation there, second, SOMETHING ABOUT THE SCALPERS, as in general, as in prevent scalpers or make it illegal, third, AFTER THE PS5 CRISES, which means i stated that the crises is already over.
@@Malhonn I’m just not sure what exactly was supposed to change? Was there supposed to suddenly be less resellers or people willing to buy resell? And you can’t just have a blanket ban on buying and reselling aftermarket goods. I’d get into the specifics as to why that’s a slippery slope but it seems obvious. Honestly the best counter, as with the “ps5 crisis,” is to have supply meet demand. Otherwise resellers will always exist.
I feel Nintendo should pull the page out from the Gameboy book. The jump from the original/color to the gba was much more than I ever could have asked for. I still was gifted and also bought gbc/gb games well after the GBA hit the shelves. I could see myself investing into the new model and still being able to buy and enjoy games from the old library and look forward to new releases.
I think that the system will not be revealed at the direct, but a flash announcement will be made and then bam the system will be released in mid September, be sold out going in to October then a restock in November going to the holidays. I just really hope this isn’t one of those things were scalpers buy up the systems to resell at a proffit
Scalpers have been doing that since Ebay was a thing. It's only been that period in late 2020 through between late 2022 and mid 2023 that it was a problem. Depending on what in the VG world you were looking for. PS5 scalper groups are almost gone now. So many were forced to sit on consoles for 1+ years, it does hurt their bottom line as they expected a certain window for a turn-around. It'll definitely hit for the first year, but it will die down. The biggest issue will be special edition consoles. Those get bought up before almost anyone even has a chance to pre-order one. I went to multiple sites the day the Tears of the Kingdom OLED was available for pre-order, and sold out everywhere. Everytime someone posted they restocked. Sold out again. Now it's overpriced for used (and on Amazon none of the sellers show pictures since they just list through the main portal of the original new model), which is super hit and miss on Ebay. Even Japanese versions of the console are overpriced for used, but not as bad as the US counterparts. Though it's not 500 anymore for used, but essentially hovering around original retail. So they want their money back for "renting" the console. Which is ridiculous. Why would you buy a console just to play for a bit, then resell in these numbers? It's a surprising number of them too. Anyway, so yeah, it will suck for year 1 unless you get lucky. So be prepared and be prepared to be beaten out by buy bots spamming the cart screen so often for the game they intentionally DoS normal users when trying to access a cart with the Switch 2. That I suspect will be the norm going forward for the PS5 Pro as well, at least for year 1. Then it will die down a bit, well, depending on how much stock they can produce to keep up with demand and shortages. So good luck fellow gamer, I toast you, and I hope you're able to get around the reseller buy spam bots, and their disgusting practices. Here's to hoping MAYBE, MAYBE Best Buy, Target, etc. actually adopt some AI smart tools designed to lock out any user that is using an obvious bot that constantly clicks various elements of the cart with what would obviously and should obviously be red flagged items that are likely to be targeted by reseller groups. So far, none of them care as they get their money, and we get to see those exorbitant reseller prices. I don't expect they will without literal government intervention (which is sad...government should never intervene in things like this).

If base model is LCD then I’ll be waiting for the OLED. I bought the base model switch and although I really wanted the OLED, I just couldn’t justify buying it when I already had a perfectly functional console. Not gonna miss out on the nicer screen for this generation.
I wonder if the LCD screen will handle HDR well, given that the switch 2 was also rumoured to support that? Seems like an OLED would better be suited for that type of content, but maybe they'll release a premium device again.
I think it’s 1080p as 8” 1080p is more common parts for android tablet. One thing is they might choose LCD instead of OLED because of VRR don’t work well with OLED.
I don't mind the LCD screen, it means that it will have a low & more affordable price. Also, a hybrid with a OLED screen is more expensive & Nintendo needs to sell the new hybrid with the LCD screen to be successful from the start/from the get go.
I can't go back after OLED. But then again, I have such a huge Switch backlog that I don't mind waiting with buying a Switch 2 OLED either. So hey it all works out.
I’ve played my original switch in handheld mode for about 2 hours (both of those hours were in March 2017). When I got my OLED model I played in handheld mode for a bit just because I was impressed with the screen. I was so impressed I finally got around to getting a Sony OLED tv. I haven’t played handheld since I upgraded my TV. I would be interested to know what percentage of people never (or hardly ever) take advantage of the Switch’s main feature? I just don’t like using joy cons in general. I know there are third party gadgets that connect the switch tablet to a pro controller, but I’ve never cared enough to try one.
I only used handheld mode once when I took the switch with me on holiday, but I imagine many people who are not alone in a household use the handheld mode
@@alexk9295It's pretty critical if you're a parent trying to convince your kids that playing video games will rot their brains. Gotta get in my own sessions hiding in the tub.
If it's going to be 8 inches then they need to bump up the resolution to 1080p. The Switch OLED's screen size is basically as big as you can get for a 720p screen before you start to be able to make out individual pixels. If this is true, though, then I'll be disappointed. A 720p, 6.5 inch screen is perfectly fine for a handheld, and targeting a lower resolution will only allow for better battery life and better performance. 1080p is honestly a bit excessive for a machine like this.
Keep the 720p in handheld mode if you want but make it stable, stop with that dynamic resolution downscaling (although stable 1080p would be best), and focus on pushing 60 fps. That's all I want.
because SOny and Microsoft are more interested in selling you their subscription service , the console is just a means to that end now, they aren't making much of a profit from hardware sales.
I would prefer a smaller OLED to a 8" LCD. But here is to hoping they have a quality LCD. Maybe they can get an 8" display as vibrant as the Analogue Pocket's seem to be.
In addition to that they need some kind of 4K upscaling /checkerboard rendering for docked mode. 1080p isn't enough for how many people own a 4k tv now
I mostly play on my television, id definitely prefer as much performance upgrades as they can. I wish they would just go crazy and make a full on console again.
@mega_ferret6359 if I were you I'd get used to hybrids and handhelds taking over the market. It's going to get increasingly more difficult to put out a standalone console each generation and once you break the $600 threshold, most people just move to PC. I think this will also be the case for Sony as well, cause the price of a PS6 if not a hybrid or dockable handheld is going to get pricey for consumers and they will lose a huge market share to PC. Gamers that want standalone consoles are getting older and older and the shift is definitely heading to mobile/handhelds/hybrids now
March to November is 8 months. Switch was revealed (less than) 5 months before it launched. I still think an April reveal with end of September (Q2) launch makes more sense
LCD screens have definitely developed in picture quality since 2017 (or whatever year the switch dropped) to compete with what we currently have in our oled displays.
The way I look at this is even if they release the first Switch 2 with LCD screen, it still possible for Nintendo to release a more premium version OLED screen during Switch 2's life cycle, another factor is the software line up, when you see first and third party games like : Elden Ring, Cyberpunk 2077, Final Fantasy VII remake, Tekken 8, Xenoblade Chronicles X remaster / X2 , the next Super Mario Odyssey, Dragon's Dogma 2, Monster Hunter Wilds, Red Dead Redemption 2, Granblue Fantasy Relink etc. all slate for release on the more graphically powerful Nintendo Switch 2 in the native form, not to mention all the possible improvement coming to the original Switch games, I think that will give the players a reason to be more forgiving when it comes to the LCD screen, that my take on it.
One good reason to stick with lcd would be VRR. There are challenges for VRR on an oled in a portable package. Oled laptops with VRR were shown for the first time at CES this year.
LTPO already goes from 1 hz to 120 hz. So VRR does not really depends on LCD. Besides, Nintendo Switch is far closer to mobile tech than laptop. You would need to see what's available there instead of laptop supply chain.
@@sharpconeLTPO is kind of different from VRR, as it scales up or down to a new fixed refresh rate (1, 30, 40, 60, 120, etc). VRR is dynamic and will change constantly to match the signal of the source, games in general.
I can’t speak for everyone but I’d pay extra for OLED. I have the original and OLED Switch and it’s such a big difference. It seems like a step back. I was really pleased the steam deck came out with an OLED version. So, it seems like we will get LCD switch and then a year later the OLED update…Nintendo knows it will make more money this way by offering it for the “pro” upgrade.
Yeah the oled screen is not that much to produce, it isn’t to keep the price down it’s so they can later sell the “pro” variant. But I don’t mind because I only play my switch for exclusives and in docked mode.
LCD isn’t even that bad anymore compared to over a decade ago. people just want to complain about every little detail of something they aren’t even making and will ultimately buy anyways lol. The switch now is still terrible as far as performance mad optimization for newer titles, but it’s still being bought and played for a reason…
1:00 To "doubling in shipments" means there is something already in production but doubling it. Doubling what? Are they using the same screen as the PlayStation Portal? Could this be a Nintendo Portal? Streaming only?
My problem is two fold: 1) they have oled now and 2) oled is in the "premium " switch. Going back to lcd and/or having a "pro" model with oled later kind of burns bridges with consumers. Could cut into launch sales unless hardware specs otherwise are AMAZINGLY UPGRADED from the regular switch.
@@artisanjames182 Hey if the system has good performance and the 500$ is due to being an OLED then I’ll gladly pay it. That’s why I have a job, to buy me things I want, not just to pay bills and invest
Taking a step backwards (LCD) only to take a step back forward later is ridiculous. And as an OLED user, I have no interest in downgrading. I play 80% in handheld and enjoy this screen. Paying a bunch of money for the “new thing” that’s inferior in the biggest way we interact with it (the screen) does not make any sense to me. Really hoping this is a false rumor and Nintendo isn’t this stupid. Then again I know they might be, lol.
if it is coming this year they better announce it soon, otherwise they wont have time to promote it before launch, and that would be a major mistake, at least if they plan to launch it before christmas, which would be a not so good time to launch it.
7:13 I’d say it has to do with it not “switching” my argument for why it should have is that yes the controllers don’t come off, but how much $ did they save not including that USC function to dock? Do you think including that anyway and forcing Switch Lite players to buy joycons or Pro-Controllers and a dock to play on TV would have made up in margin if it would have still had this function?
Yep. It better be considerably faster and the joystick problem better be solved. I will not be buying day one. Not dealing with scalpers or day one bugs.
I agree. $400 is a lot to ask. Especially since Bidenomics has raised goods and services by 25%. Hek, even if I had no responsibilities, $400 is still high.
to summarize switch lite problems: people saw the switch lite which you can't connect joy cons on to, or connect it to the TV, unlike 2ds where you're losing a gimmick feature, replacing controllers would be painful for lite
So I see people changing lcd screens to old on the steam deck. Could the same be said when the switch 2 comes out we could possibly change screens on the Nintendo switch 2 that would be interesting 🤔
I don't see how your comment is supposed to prove anything. People can't want an OLED Switch 2 because most people also own LCD displays on their laptops/monitors? Make it make sense.
I early adopted for the wii, biggest game changer cause nun chucks.. but passed on wii u and somehow i missed the bullet by a mile because wii u was the worst console. You just never know
LCD is the right choice as the standard model with possible OLED option later. Not everyone can plays 100% of time on portable mode. Are premiums for OLED worth it for people who plays mostly docked? Depends. It’s not fair for all of them to subsidize people who mostly play in portable mode.
I play almost exclusively on the TV. I appreciatecno OLED is disappointing for some. I just want a more powerful version of the same system that is backwards compatible.
1080p handheld and 4k docked will be a selling point but wasting soooooo much computing power. I personally am fine with the 720p of the switch and 800p of the steam deck. If they use DLSS out of the box and default would make sense, but rendering it natively will raise the costs and temperature a lot. Since the Mig Switch is available, I think we can stop hoping for backward comparability, despite they drop the cartridges.
im gonna try my absolute best to wait and see if they do an oled version later if not right away. I still have a launch day switch so what is a little more waiting.
0:04 I know the name of the next system is not the topic of this video, but personally I don’t think it will have “Switch” in its name. Of course, it’s gonna be a Switch pro, super Switch, and Switch two, but I don’t think Nintendo wants to take any chances this time to repeat the confusion that the Wii U’s name caused. And if using a LCD screen will help keep it most affordable for the masses, then that’s what Nintendo will do.
I feel like they should do both things. Have a basic sku with an LCD, and a premium one with an OLED screen. Personally I don't play handheld, so I would probably go with the basic one if there is a big enough difference in price. To be honest the thing I would like more than an OLED screen is a fucking glass screen protector... that plastic crap gets scratched so easily, and even if I don't play handheld that much I like my stuff to look as mint as possible.
So basically people in the comments are saying Nintendo, it's okay, we don't want to use the better screen we've already had on a past system. Reminds me of "you will own nothing and be happy with it"
Depends on the LCD technology used, ie qled which is LCD is like imitation oled lcd screen. I really hope they got a good LCD with vibrant colours and black blacks... but thats probably wishing for too much here. sigh
I think they should both. Oled for the people who value that and a cheaper led for people who don't. Make the price difference to where they both profit equally. If its $100 more for Oled than so be it. I think k they will likely do what they did last time though. Make us double dip.
There are only three things I want: 1) Backwards compatibility, 2) A decent hardware buff and 3) better battery. The screen type is the last thing on my mind.
Hope there will be a stationary version that is cheaper. I didn't use the portability because you can't see anything anyway when outside. The screen brightness is not enough
The vast majority of TV sold are still LCD... the nicer ones are Qled but still lcd. The advantage QLED have over Oled .... about twice as cheap , all led are on equally so no worry about burn out and often they are brighter than OLED. I bought an OLED which I game on but I could have bought two Qled for the same price so question if it's worth it. It does look better but not twice the cost better.
I have the launch switch won't mind the switch 2 having an lcd as long as it supports higher resolution and framerate, we have cell phones using the same chipset as the switch with 1440p and 120hz refresh rate some were even 4k60 back in 2017
I don’t mind the LCD screen. Coming from someone who has several Oled screens through their house…sometimes all that blue light kills my eyes 😭 The only thing I hope the new system brings is smooth consistent 60 fps gameplay and backwards compatibility. Would love to play Tears of the Kingdom in 60fps without having to bootleg it on PC. Or have Pokemon games actually run like they should lol Love Nintendo just want them to be a bit less behind the curb with the other consoles competitors with the hardware.
@@NuiYabuko obviously there’s more that goes into it than just the hardware. However if the console has more to offer in its specs…the more developers have to work their magic thus better games if the love is there. Nintendo has worked some magic the last few years with the limitations of the switch. Ready for the next phase.
I dont want to defend changing OLED to LCD but there are some really good LCD panels that can be pretty close to OLED quality without the issues of the OLED aka burn in. Still, I dont think Nintendo would do it for the good reason though more for resale the OLED later than the road 😅
400 seems reasonable. LCD is fine. We’ll probably get games like Zelda totk run at 60 fps at 1440p resolution docked. And 1080p Handheld. I mean. If that be the case I’m not complaining at all. Nintendo first party games are always highly stylised as is. No matter how “powerful” the system is going to be, Nintendo will always optimise their games and make them look clean and crisp. It’s one of the few companies in the world I still trust to deliver a consumer friendly, complete and quality product. Wich, in 2024 says a lot.
The LCD screen doesn't have bright colorful colors but it's going to be 4K not 1080p so just calm down ok it's not going to be as bad as you think it's going to be
With a side by side comparison of oled to lcd, the oled... Kinda just seemed like it could get brighter? I honestly didn't notice an incredible difference besides the one main thing people point out with the darker blacks.
Oled pixels are independent, and if they are supposed to show something black they literally just turn off. I've read that due to this they also are more energy efficient which is a nice for a portable system, I've always kept my handhelds with minumum brightness to conserve as much battery as possible
It’s wild that they’re going with LCD but I understand why, they’ll get more sales with that lower price point but they should at least have an option to buy the OLED next gen switch and pay that extra.
I don't see them not selling an oled model later on as well. I have a Switch oled, the screen looks niiiice. It'd be cool if it could dock on the switch 1 dock and use old controllers and they sold just the unit alone.
I would love for Nintendo to also have an OLED and double the memory console option on release day but then I think it would be a bad decision and would disappoint so many people who can't get that upgraded version. Imagine you are those type of people that want to have the best experience and the only console available at release day is the inferior one, it would have a big effect on the user, especially if you're an enthusiast, it would be so frustrating. I think the best choice is the same console for everybody just two color options like when the first Switch came out. Because I know for sure its gonna be sold out for a while.
There's also a decent slice of players who upgraded to the OLED a profit Nintendo may not have seen otherwise, along with anyone who maybe didn't care about OLED, but still got the dock fire the direct connection to the internet. It wouldn't shock me if we get an OLED revision for Switch 2.
I’ll be ok with LCD. But it is a bit annoying knowing they’ll release an OLED model later. The OLED Switch screen is beautiful.
I think you're correct. Marketing would suggest a launch model with the LCD, and then an upgraded OLED model after, just like the current switch.

Agreed. It likely won't be the really nice mini led though. Lower end oleds don't put out as good of pictures as higher end lcd these days. As long as they didn't use a really cheap lcd it should be pretty decent.

The person has a point the PS4 controller only works a certain way on the PS5 and the PS4 controllers cost around $75 to $80@@XtreemeX

There isn't any difference in design between the switch lcd and oled.

I always figured going back to LCD to reduce costs on the initial model was the obvious move. OLED is noticably better, don't get me wrong, but I don't think most consumers care nearly as much as enthusiasts.
The thing is, the early adopters of the potential switch 2 will be the enthusiasts. Most will stick with their original switch, especially with the probability that it'll get support for another two years

I can live with LCD for handheld mode, but 720p in 2023 is a joke. 1080p 60hz would be the minimum and it would look fine
Keep the 720p in handheld mode if you want but make it stable, stop with that dynamic resolution downscaling (although stable 1080p would be best), and focus on pushing 60 fps. That's all I want.

Do you think including that anyway and forcing Switch Lite players to buy joycons or Pro-Controllers and a dock to play on TV would have made up in margin if it would have still had this function?
I think 400 dollars is already too much. Inflation or not. So it better be worth it if it is that price.
LCD 2024 isn't the LCD 2017, so this can be misleading.
Not to mention the benefit of it hopefully being a 1080p display at that size would look significantly better
Super Switch just makes sense!
to summarize switch lite problems: people saw the switch lite which you can't connect joy cons on to, or connect it to the TV, unlike 2ds where you're losing a gimmick feature, replacing controllers would be painful for lite
Even spawnwave isn’t above clickbaity thumbnails…
UA-cam is gross.
So I see people changing lcd screens to old on the steam deck. Could the same be said when the switch 2 comes out we could possibly change screens on the Nintendo switch 2 that would be interesting 🤔
Thats cause ppl are dumb.. sure steam deck lcd 540p is bad but 1200p oled is ever worse the pixel density is bad and you get lower frames than the lcd
These people bitching about lcd screen act like they don't spend most of their time looking at an IPS monitor which is still LCD btw.
I don't see how your comment is supposed to prove anything. People can't want an OLED Switch 2 because most people also own LCD displays on their laptops/monitors? Make it make sense.
@@PlazDreamweaver Because they think the switch 2 having an lcd display is some end of the world scenario when they themselves are fine using one.
1080p LCD makes sense to me. Then they do an OLED refresh just like with the switch. But... This is Nintendo. They are bound to try something new 😅
Yeah, I was an early adopter for OG Switch. I can wait for whatever the Switch 2 has cooking.
I would prefer an LCD with well functioning low brightness "night" mode. Xbox has it figured out pretty well with its customization options.
OLED is like Nintendo's pro version upgrade mid gen. I'm cool with the LCD as long as we get more frames lol
Nintendo sWIItch now plays Wii games and is actually less powerful than a Wii U, but comes with a LAN port. OLED screen. 499.99
The question is: Do I buy the first drop? OR Should I wait for a themed switch like zelda or metroid?
So basically people in the comments are saying Nintendo, it's okay, we don't want to use the better screen we've already had on a past system. Reminds me of "you will own nothing and be happy with it"
Are you going to pay 100 more for the OLED then?
Depends on the LCD technology used, ie qled which is LCD is like imitation oled lcd screen. I really hope they got a good LCD with vibrant colours and black blacks... but thats probably wishing for too much here. sigh
I don't care LCD or OLED. I just want modern powerful Switch ❤. Old 7 years Switch can have amazing open world Hogwarts Legacy, imagine Switch 2 🤤
I have the launch switch won't mind the switch 2 having an lcd as long as it supports higher resolution and framerate, we have cell phones using the same chipset as the switch with 1440p and 120hz refresh rate some were even 4k60 back in 2017
It could be mini LCD
Coming from someone who has a switch oled and a legion go. I prefer the 8 inch lcd. The size is worth it and that lcd on the go is excellent
I don’t mind the LCD screen. Coming from someone who has several Oled screens through their house…sometimes all that blue light kills my eyes 😭
The only thing I hope the new system brings is smooth consistent 60 fps gameplay and backwards compatibility. Would love to play Tears of the Kingdom in 60fps without having to bootleg it on PC. Or have Pokemon games actually run like they should lol
Love Nintendo just want them to be a bit less behind the curb with the other consoles competitors with the hardware.
Hardware doesn't magically make all games run at 60fps. Perhaps be "a bit less behind the curb" about how hardware works first?
@@NuiYabuko obviously there’s more that goes into it than just the hardware. However if the console has more to offer in its specs…the more developers have to work their magic thus better games if the love is there. Nintendo has worked some magic the last few years with the limitations of the switch. Ready for the next phase.
If they’re doing this for a cheaper price then they should also release a “pro” model that features the oled screen at a price of $50-$100 more.
The LCD screen doesn't have bright colorful colors but it's going to be 4K not 1080p so just calm down ok it's not going to be as bad as you think it's going to be
If they wanna keep the same price level but have bigger memory, etc LCD instead of OLED is the quickest and most direct way to do it.
