- "The Lion Sleeps Tonigh" by The Tokens (also known as "A-Wimoweh" or "In the jungle, the mighty jungle") is a 1961 song, this video was recorded from TV show "Studio Uno" on RAI 1 Italy on February 5, 1963.
The 1960's had the best bands and music. I was 8 years old in 1961~! Shalom

My son was born in February 1987. One night I was trying to put him down for the night. He didn’t want to have any of that. So I started to bounce with him gently of our bed holding him all so carefully. Suddenly the lyrics of this song came into play. I think with me bouncing us on the bed and the rhythm of the lyrics, he fell asleep without any hesitation. So my wife and I began using this technique to get him to sleep in the beginning. Bouncing on the bed and singing this song. Our son is now a man of 37 years and we will be celebrating his upcoming 38th birthday. I have seen how he has grown into a fine young man, father, uncle and professional. Thank you God 🙏 for all the memories and future hopes for my young adults and grandchildren.

Probably a combination of the fact that she wasn't a man (it was the 60's), and she wasn't a full member of The Tokens (being an opera star as a day job). All I know is that she made the thing as brilliant as it was and deserved to be on stage with the men. A later version shows a blond girl at the back of the men. It's Kelly Krepin Defade. She does less singling than Anita Darian did in the first version but at least you can see her on camera. Fantastic. @@kerryhudson4607
