It's so nice to see people from another culture playing your nations musical instruments. It gives you a sense of pride and appreciation. And even tho I've been abroad for over three decades, I still stop in my tracks every time to listen when I hear steel pan. I guess it's in my blood. That was very enjoyable. Well done kids.

I grew up in South Dakota but lived in Trinidad for a couple of years back in the 1980's. Still have very fond memories of going to the upside down Hilton on Friday night to listen to the pan band, hearing the pan yard at night up the street in Petit Valley leading up to Carnival, and of course all of the great bands, large and small, during the Carnival. This brings all of the great memories back to me. Great job kids.

I’ve never considered the sound of people beating on metal drums to be “music”. It’s always just sounded like people beating on 55 gallon barrels.
This came up in my feed. When I saw the title of what they were “playing”, I clicked on it to see how badly they were going to murder it.
WOW! Consider my attitude changed. This is terrific.
That these are high schoolers isn’t surprising. Band kids (and I was one all the way through school) have always been a little quirky- when get interested in something a little off the beaten path, they put their heart and soul into it.
    Thanks to whoever posted this.

This was well done. I love the arrangement. It makes me proud to be a citizen of the twin island republic of Trinidad and Tobago. It is on our tiny island of approximately 1.3 million people that the steelpan was invented. We are also known for our Carnival. We are known for Calypso and Soca music. Bunji Garlin who sang Diffrentology is from Trinidad. Brian Lara the cricketer and world record holder is from Trinidad also. Our most recent sporting hero is Keshorn Walcott he won the gold medal at the olympics in the field of javelin. I love my country. Trinidad and Tobago to the world!

I have always loved the steel drums and when ever I see them being played on the street or in some other venue I stop and enjoy. It puts me in another state of mind. One of love and tranquility. You just drift off to those islands in your mind's eye. The sound is so unique and these kids do it at a tempo that just rocks you like a baby. I wish this is what teachers would teach. But no they are just to insane and do not stick to what we pay them to teach. They use the time we allow them to be with our kids to plant seeds of discontent.
I was in the cadet band in highschool and it was an experience I will never forget marching in parades and being part of something bigger than me. I was always a musical person but never really could play like these kids do. They are wonderful. Stop looking for the flaws in one another and just shut up and play.
If teachers would just stick to teach things like this instead of their constant harping on civil rights and socialism and social justice and the environment we would be a better country. That will all come with time. But then again most are derisive people full of hate for America. We have always embraced other cultures and their music and it is a wonderful thing as music brings together not ANTIFA thugs but teachers today are Pure CRAP. They are hell bent on poisoning the minds of our youth when they have an opportunity to take the high ground and give our kids something to be proud of like this band.
While visiting in Italy one year with my wife and mother in law went shopping one day and I took a nap only to awake to the sounds of the song that they played in Star Wars when Darth Vader came into the scene. The music wafted through the air and into the open windows of our hotel room. I got up and followed it down the narrow streets to what was an open market earlier that day. There in the market square was a large orchestra of students playing this Darth Vader theme. I was awestruck by the beauty of it. They played so well. I looked around and there was my wife and her mother drawn to the same spot by this beautiful rendition of Vader's Theme.
This is what our young people need not all this division and hatred between the races and our government and the President that they dole out in ever increasing measures.
The young people in this Steel Drum band are beautiful and I applaud these kids for their beautiful playing. Brovo

As a DHS grad from the last century who played my trumpet dismally in the marching band of 1961, this video made me proud. You've come a long, long way, DHS musicians, and I complement Ms. Swinderman for helping you on your journey. Bravo!

I adore steel drums ! I think the original steel drums were made from steel drums that were use to transport various liquids (?) I first heard a steel drum played back in the 60s/70s when calypso music was popular ( loved the music and the sound of the steel drums ) “carry on my island friends”🌴🌺🌸🌼🐚🐬🐟🐠🐡🦞🦐🦑🐡🐙🦀🦈🐋🐳. ✊🏾👣
