You want my honest opinion? Primarina is the better of the two in Alola, by far. That Fairy typing goes a long way, and it can take advantage of it and its Water typing really well along with having some pretty good coverage moves, as opposed to Gyarados, who doesn't have access to a good physical Flying-type move and having mostly special attacking moves when it is a physical attacker.

I was hoping Gyarados would be Sinnoh. Did my first ever playthrough of Platinum recently, and Gyarados carried my nuzlocke all the way to the end, even taking out Cynthia's Garchomp
If u wanna run golisopod in alola or galar , use this moveset Leech life 80/100 Rock slide 75/90 Luiquidation 80/100 Drill run 80/95 Rock slide for flying types , Luiquidation for rock types & drill run for electric types , use this moveset & u will be sweeping everything in the game for gen 7 & gen 8 :)
My personal fave Water types to use in each Gen playthrough: 1: Blastoise/Starmie/Gyarados (Blastoise if I decide to use it as a starter in a playthrough, otherwise Starmie or Gyarados are my picks.) 2: Lapras/Feraligatr (Feraligatr is my fave Johto starter.) 3: Swampert (Fave starter of all time) 4: Floatzel/Golduck (Weird choices, I know. But I tried them both out a few times and actually really liked them.) 5. Samurott (Fave Gen 5 starter) 6. Greninja (Fave Gen 6 starter) 7. Primarina/Slowbro (Primarina is a beast and was my first playthrough with a Slowbro ever. Outside of the laxk of speed, I liked it a lot.) 8. Inteleon (first starter I tried and really liked it.)
I’m honestly glad you chose Jellicent. Scary as it is in the Pokédex, it’s a great Pokémon. I used one when I didn’t start with Samurott, and it was awesome. With Water Absorb, it had three immunities, and it was bulky as hell.
Gyarados available just before Mt. Moon is the actual best Water type in RB. It usually moves first unlike Slobro, doesn't rely on gimmicky Amnesia sweeping (btw, in playthrough it's much more fun to switch pokemon than to sweep the entire team with boosted Slowbro/Mewtwo/Poliwrath/Snorlax, and boosting for 1 foe is ridiculous cos STAB neutral hits are usually 2HKOs), is VERY BULKY, can learn all the coverage you may possibly want it to (Fire type s*cks in RB, you don't need Flamethrower over Blizzard or Thunderbolt), and its SPECIAL is respectable 100 in this Gen. Second best optio is Starmie: you get Recover, secondary Psychic type (why would you need a second or third Psychic type though?), coverage, Speed, but you have to wait until you're able to catch it. And it's also Misty's ace, so I wouldn't choose it.
I think the Red Gyarados is better than Lapras in HGSS. Waterfall Ice Fang Earthquake Dragon Dance With this move set, Gyarados is just very strong. With Dragon Dance and Ice Fang, It can easily sweep Lance's Dragonites, Aerodactyl, Charizard.
Having both used Gyarados and Primarina in S/M/US/UM I can honestly say Primarina is the better option overall. When in any battle I have a difficult time saying Prima isn't a viable option is a big plus. Gyarados isn't a bad option but by the point you can't get Magikarp I'm fully invested with Popplio/Brionne when it comes to the time to make a switch.
Gen 4, don't forget about Roserade or even Drapion Gen 6, Venusaur or Nidoking Gen 7, Alola Muk, or even Venusaur VIA Island Scan Gen 8, Venusaur if you do Isle of Armor early, or Skuntank, Toxtricity, or Roserade.
Gen 7 has got to be Toxapex, absolute unit that can tank super effective hits like it's nothing, just set up 3 stockpiles, toxic poison them, and laugh as you out heal them with the combination of recover and leftovers, and if things get ugly, just switch out, Regenerator has got your back. Also, using a Toxic + Venoshock set with Merciless is very fun as well.
I would say primarina is the best alolan water because of its typing how easy it is to get and how amazing a move set it can get ( of the top of my head I remember my primarina had sparkling aria psychic and moonblast) but if you can’t get it cuz u picked another starter then yeah pick gyurados

In my opinion, starme is the best water type option for all generations. If you do have a second platform, trade it and enjoy using it. It is so damn good. Both in terms of design and in terms of viability and learnset.
the problem i have with gyarados is that for alot of games it takes quite awhile for it to learn a water move, i would rather use vaporeon in most of those if i have that option
Counter-argument for Gen 8: Seismitoad 1. Doesn't have a weakness to Dragon or Fairy, two common types in Galar 2. Gets coverage for its only weakness, Grass, thanks to not only Poison moves like Poison Jab or Sludge Bomb, but also Ice Punch as a TM 3. Gets Liquidation as an amazing Water STAB that, unlike Dracovish, doesn't rely on an ability to be strong 4. All of his Abilities are great. 5. Ground Type is actually the best type in Galar, with Water being the third best.
Empoleon I've used in Platinum, Floatzel in Diamond, Feraligatr in Soul Silver, Azumarill in Emerald, Alpha Sapphire, Samurott, Seismitoad, Jellicent in BW, Swanna, Blastoise in X, FireRed and Starmie, Wishiwashi in Sun, Primarina in Moon and Inteleon in Shield
Gyurados's only flying type move is Bounce(80 power 80 accuracy[it would be viable if it had 95 or 100 accuracy but it doesn't]) like come on at least give Gyurados Fly for a viable STAB option you don't have to give it any other flying move that's all it really needs at the end of the day but Sky Attack and Brave Bird would be nice but those don't make sense so i understand not giving it those moves.
You could get Swampert’s second stage, through QR scanner in USUM. Right before Kiawe’s trial. Personally I think swampert is still very good in alola. Just not against Totem Lurantis
When I played Ultra Sun I started with Popplio but when I went to the Elite Four I used both Primariana and Swampert together. Yes I know 2 water types is a little much but using both of them together, really helped me out.
For pokemon b2w2 I think jellicent is the best water type in those games : - water/ghost is awesome with pretty useful resistances/immunities notable ones are water for marlon and fighting for marshal, and offensively isn’t resisted by many pokemon - good abilities water absorb for an immunity to water but the better one imo is cursed body which combined with jellicent’s tanky stats can be pretty useful - finally the movepool is amazing, offensively it has many useful coverage moves like : energy ball for other water types, ice beam/blizzard for grass types and there’s also psychic is still makes beating fighting and poison types a bit faster. Defensively I want to talk about will o wisp which is not only amazing due to fixing jellicent somewhat poor physical defense but also goes perfectly with hex In conclusion maybe for a casual playthrough jellicent may not be THE best water type in b2w2 but in both of my nuzlocks that I did in b2 it pretty much saved both of my runs due to all of those amazing qualities that I just stated (Damn I didn’t think this comment would be this long so if you read through this entire comment thanks !)
The problem with Dracovish, here, is that you don't get Fishious Rend until you're either in the post game or about to be. Also, surprised you didn't mention how Marshtomp is available in Alola.
I'd also give a little space to my boi Walrein, this fat walrus is sure late to be found, but when you get it it's a game shanger: it's just an unbreakable wall both physical and special. it conters/tanks the 2 last gym leaders, Groudon, Rayquaza, two elite four and both the champions. If you've never played this boy, try it in any Hoenn run and drop that virgin Swampert for this chad Walrein, also you can find the small rolling balls early in swsh as soon as you can get in crown tundra, so GO AND GET IT!
If you don't pick either Froakie or Squirtle is X and Y, other options I think are good are Lapras: You get one for free right after the 3rd gym, around the same time you get Surf. Gyarados: Both its regular form and mega form Since in the Hoenn games there are 3 Water HMs, along with Swampert, a good Water type PokeMon to use is Ludicolo. Though Gyarados works well too. In Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon a good option is Swampert via Island Scan. You get a Marshtomp on Saturdays Via Island Scan and even though I picked Popplio, I used both Primariana and Swampert in the Elite Four. Sword and Shield: While Dracovish is definitely one of my favorite Water type PokeMon, I used Seismitoad in the PokeMon League and against Leon. If Crown Tundra wasn't post game, I'd say Swampert again. In Shield Ludicolo is a good option too.
Primarina was my first stater so I may be bias but... primarina’s Z move and move set is better plus there are more special based trials and challenges that can’t break though primarina’s wall of special defence, plus the physical based trials are mostly ones that primarina is strong agasint, from the fighting kahuna to Olivia, from the steel elite four member/hapu of ur in normal sun and moon, to Olivia. I just think that primarina had more of an effect of your play through and makes it easier than if u have a garados (sorry for my spelling btw)
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Gyarados just doesn't do if for me. -Lack of Flying Moves makes its dual type useless. -4x Weak to Electric (Pichu could kill it!) -Physical Water Moves are Lame. I want to smack my enemies around with water cannons and tidal waves!
Reminds me that as Pika I did a mono-water team of white 2, consisting of Dewott (didn't evolve into Samurott until postgame), Azumarill, Jellicent, Alomomola, Basculin, and Starmie. It was for a Scramble Challenge I did while on Smogon, but Azumarill and Starmie looked like they had potential, especially considering Azumarill has possible Huge Power and Starmie has a lot of coverage for a special sweeper. Shame I wasn't able to catch Staryu until pretty late in the story (Route 13 just after Undella rival, before the 7th gym) whereas Azurill was an early snag, before the Aspertia gym. I would want to say Azumarill if you didn't take Oshawott, but then I realized it didn't get fairy until the next generation, so for me it's a true toss-up.
But Gyarados can learn bounce by TM in Gen 8, it got that good physical flying move you wanted, and imo is better than Dracovish for a playthru of the game. ( Yes I know Gyarados could get bounce since gen 4 via move tutor, but those are almost always post game)
my take Kanto-Starmie(Blue,LG) Lapras(overall) Johto-Lapras Quagsire(water/ground is Op) Hoenn-Swapert Sinnoh-Gastrodon Unova-Samurott or Seismitoad Kalos-Greninja Alola-Primarina Galar-Barraskewda
G1 : Starmie is better than Slowbro G2 : Id put Kingdra over Lapras but probably you wont take him because you cant really get him unless you trade. So yeah Lapras is probably the best for G2. I also have a sweet tooth for Feraligatr, strong strong one for almost every gym leader with dark and ice attacks. G3 : Swampert is the best no doubt but Milotic oh lord how precious. G4 : Gyarados it is. G5 : Jellicent is probably the best for me, hes my favorite G5 pokemon and he really hits the nail with his typing.
Even though this is probably wrong, I think Azumarill is the best water type in B2W2 cuz of it's early accessibility. Plus Huge Power Azurill is great for Gym 1. Trust me, ik from experience. Don't sleep on Azuma

At the beginning, I made a light guess of Jellicent for being the best B2W2 water mon and I turned out to be right
I’m doing a solo run with every Pokémon in b2w2 so I’m really looking forward to this
How many mons did you do so far?
@@northstarpokeshipper2148 in order from best to worst I’ve done
Krookodile
Metagross
Thundurus
Altaria
And Samurott
And I’m working on starmie right now
You want my honest opinion? Primarina is the better of the two in Alola, by far. That Fairy typing goes a long way, and it can take advantage of it and its Water typing really well along with having some pretty good coverage moves, as opposed to Gyarados, who doesn't have access to a good physical Flying-type move and having mostly special attacking moves when it is a physical attacker.
Not to mention the 4x weakness to electric
@@michaeldean2877 That, too.
@@PokéJolt50 yeah
The Mermaid Is still my overall Water and Fairy user
Yeah i got tired of azumarill play rough always missing
@@harbour08 Azumarill Didn't grow on me until Gen 7
@@helixrushheart4250 azumarril didn’t grow on me until my playthrough of pokemon Gaia
Now it’s my favorite
Also when I catch azrill in pokemon unbound after I get the dexnav I.m naming it Gaia
Edit i felt like John cena is a better name also I will use something else instead
Same here. She's also my overall favorite Starter Pokémon. I love Azumarill too, but Primarina I love more.
@@helixrushheart4250 yeah that's how it was for me too! I just hope that they widen the pool for physical fairy moves
I was hoping Gyarados would be Sinnoh. Did my first ever playthrough of Platinum recently, and Gyarados carried my nuzlocke all the way to the end, even taking out Cynthia's Garchomp
Starmie carried me in lets go! Surf, psychic, ice beam and thunder bolt. Dont need anyone else!
If u wanna run golisopod in alola or galar , use this moveset
Leech life 80/100
Rock slide 75/90
Luiquidation 80/100
Drill run 80/95
Rock slide for flying types , Luiquidation for rock types & drill run for electric types , use this moveset & u will be sweeping everything in the game for gen 7 & gen 8 :)
Drill Run can also take care of Rock types since Golisopod sadly becomes weak to Rock since Rock type moves are super effective on bug types.
My Boy Dracovish be like: UUNAA LALALA!!!
My personal fave Water types to use in each Gen playthrough:
1: Blastoise/Starmie/Gyarados (Blastoise if I decide to use it as a starter in a playthrough, otherwise Starmie or Gyarados are my picks.)
2: Lapras/Feraligatr (Feraligatr is my fave Johto starter.)
3: Swampert (Fave starter of all time)
4: Floatzel/Golduck (Weird choices, I know. But I tried them both out a few times and actually really liked them.)
5. Samurott (Fave Gen 5 starter)
6. Greninja (Fave Gen 6 starter)
7. Primarina/Slowbro (Primarina is a beast and was my first playthrough with a Slowbro ever. Outside of the laxk of speed, I liked it a lot.)
Starmie, Lapras, Gyrados, Milotic, Swampert, Primarina, Dracovish, and Vaporeon (not mentioned). These are all my favorites ^_^
Electric type next
I FREAKING CALLED THAT SEISMITOAD! EASIEST $10 OF MY LIFE!
Strongest Pure Water Types : Primal Kyogre and Mega Blastoise, School Form Wishiwashi, Suicune and Milotic.
I think the Red Gyarados is better than Lapras in HGSS.
Waterfall
Ice Fang
Earthquake
Dragon Dance
With this move set, Gyarados is just very strong. With Dragon Dance and Ice Fang, It can easily sweep Lance's Dragonites, Aerodactyl, Charizard.
Red blue and yellow and I already disagree... Starmie is the goat, type coverage and great stab moves while being very fast
I betcha the strongest Poison type list will be like this
Kanto: Nidoking
Johto: Nidoking/Crobat
Everywhere else: *CROBAT*
Gen 4, don't forget about Roserade or even Drapion
Gen 6, Venusaur or Nidoking
Gen 7, Alola Muk, or even Venusaur VIA Island Scan
Gen 8, Venusaur if you do Isle of Armor early, or Skuntank, Toxtricity, or Roserade.
Me knowing vaporeon probably won't be here but stil hoping: *curious sylveon noises*
Me too. Hand down best water type in unova and fr/lg and red/blue
I love Vaporeon. One of my favorite eveelutions. I used one in my main playthrough of Pokemon Platinum. Using Ice Beam and Surf all day long.
@@TheZestyCar i had vaporeon with hydro pump surf aqua ring and ice beam and holding left overs. Absolutely op since it legit never missed a hydro pump in the 1000+ uses it was used. Not once did hydro pump miss
@@nova8198 I beg to differ, Starmie is better in my opinion.
:(
I would love to see more of this series, I suggest Fire types next :)
I remember being disappointed that Greninja wasn’t Water/Fighting but now it’s one of my favorite Pokemon!
especially since chesnaut has more reasons to be steel than fighting.
Fire type to continue the starter type video
In my opinion, starme is the best water type option for all generations. If you do have a second platform, trade it and enjoy using it. It is so damn good. Both in terms of design and in terms of viability and learnset.
I share your view
the problem i have with gyarados is that for alot of games it takes quite awhile for it to learn a water move, i would rather use vaporeon in most of those if i have that option
3:20 laughs in Kyogre
Really cool video man!
Thank you!
Clearly I made the proper choice using Gyarados during my first play through of sun.
It was nice to see the evolution of the lapels sprites though the vid
Already hyped for the best fire pokemon to use in gen 4!!!
Slowbro
Suicune
Primal Kyogre
Palkia
Seismitoad
Greninja
Tapu Fini
Dravovish
Counter-argument for Gen 8: Seismitoad
1. Doesn't have a weakness to Dragon or Fairy, two common types in Galar
2. Gets coverage for its only weakness, Grass, thanks to not only Poison moves like Poison Jab or Sludge Bomb, but also Ice Punch as a TM
3. Gets Liquidation as an amazing Water STAB that, unlike Dracovish, doesn't rely on an ability to be strong
After seeing Dracovish on the list, I really want to see the Dragon type next.
My team in um is
Incenieroar
Swampert
Sceptile
Mimikyu
Flygon
Manectric
I’d say we do grass next and then fire, just to get the starter trio out of the way.
For pokemon b2w2 I think jellicent is the best water type in those games :
- water/ghost is awesome with pretty useful resistances/immunities notable ones are water for marlon and fighting for marshal, and offensively isn’t resisted by many pokemon
- good abilities water absorb for an immunity to water but the better one imo is cursed body which combined with jellicent’s tanky stats can be pretty useful
- finally the movepool is amazing, offensively it has many useful coverage moves like : energy ball for other water types, ice beam/blizzard for grass types and there’s also psychic is still makes beating fighting and poison types a bit faster.
Defensively I want to talk about will o wisp which is not only amazing due to fixing jellicent somewhat poor physical defense but also goes perfectly with hex
In conclusion maybe for a casual playthrough jellicent may not be THE best water type in b2w2 but in both of my nuzlocks that I did in b2 it pretty much saved both of my runs due to all of those amazing qualities that I just stated
(Damn I didn’t think this comment would be this long so if you read through this entire comment thanks !)
In oras I use sharpedo, one of my favorite water types since emerald
Gen 1 Gyarados is good since It's Special Stat is 100 so it could be a mixed attacker
B2W2 prediction: I’ve never played these games, but proabably Samurott, and if it doesn’t count then Seismitoed.
Mystic: For Fire Red, Lapras!
Vaporeon: *Water splash on that b$tch, Aquafina my drip,*
fire vid, keep up the good content
Thank you!
I mean obviously you're doing ghosts next....
Right...?
I think Gyrados was the pick in hg/ss (shiny one) it can handle Clair and sweep
Lance entirely with dragon dance , waterfall, ice fang and earthquake
I ignored Seismitoad all the way until the Ghetsis fight. It prevented his Hydreigon from sweeping my entire team. It gained my respect after that.
The problem with Dracovish, here, is that you don't get Fishious Rend until you're either in the post game or about to be. Also, surprised you didn't mention how Marshtomp is available in Alola.
and i thought i was crazy for using a gyarados in my pearl game, when i decided to change it up :P
If you don't pick either Froakie or Squirtle is X and Y, other options I think are good are
Lapras: You get one for free right after the 3rd gym, around the same time you get Surf.
Gyarados: Both its regular form and mega form
Since in the Hoenn games there are 3 Water HMs, along with Swampert, a good Water type PokeMon to use is Ludicolo.
The ad was Soo good that I ended up watching it all..
5:00 ad..
Dang Aoki is a pokemon fan too
For Black and White 2, I am going to say Keldio or Jellicent
I got it right
B2W2: Obviously, it’s Keldeo.
‘Watches video’
Oh...you were looking for ones that were easily accessible. Never mind then.
Wait
Is it in general
Or for playthrou
Or in compatiteve
He means in pre post game.
@@skyn3945 so playthro
Yeah
I needed these videos so much because I've recently been making teams of 1 typing so I need some help :b
honorable mention to carracosta in black and white, loved using this thing
Best Pokémons Under 550 Base Power are : Feraligatr, Vaporeon, Golduck, Politoed and Wailord.
It's funny he mentions lapras in gen two because I used one and practically swept through lance.
Oceanic operetta is literally a get out of jail free card is those games lol
Vaporeon, it just destroys
Should've named your channel mystic lapras 🤣 I kid. Great video
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Gyarados just doesn't do if for me.
-Lack of Flying Moves makes its dual type useless.
-4x Weak to Electric (Pichu could kill it!)
-Physical Water Moves are Lame. I want to smack my enemies around with water cannons and tidal waves!
Whelp that was a predicable list, can we get the ground type next?
Jellicent eh? I'll agree it's a good choice. Let's say 2nd. Sticking with my early game Vaporeon though.
I think Vapoeron is a good option for B2/W2. Anyways, I didn't use any water type for the main story
But Gyarados can learn bounce by TM in Gen 8, it got that good physical flying move you wanted, and imo is better than Dracovish for a playthru of the game.
( Yes I know Gyarados could get bounce since gen 4 via move tutor, but those are almost always post game)
Snooty boi: Greninja, Starmie.
Titan: Lapras, Slowbro.
Metroman: *Blastoise.*
my take
Kanto-Starmie(Blue,LG)
Lapras(overall)
Johto-Lapras
Quagsire(water/ground is Op)
Hoenn-Swapert
Sinnoh-Gastrodon
Unova-Samurott or Seismitoad
Kalos-Greninja
Alola-Primarina
Galar-Barraskewda
I say it’s Carracosta. Also maybe over what the best ground type next??
G1 : Starmie is better than Slowbro
G2 : Id put Kingdra over Lapras but probably you wont take him because you cant really get him unless you trade.
For me, Primarina is the better Water type. I usually have Sparkling Aria, Moonblast, Calm Mind and a coverage move like Psychic or something...
5:25 move tutorial can have it learn bounce
Even though this is probably wrong, I think Azumarill is the best water type in B2W2 cuz of it's early accessibility. Plus Huge Power Azurill is great for Gym 1. Trust me, ik from experience. Don't sleep on Azuma
Do fire type next! It will be a good (dug)trio with grass after!
0:55 Keldeo
