Huge props to the guy who mixed this. Everything sounds huge especially the drums!!! The 400 unit is one of the tightest bands out right now and the mix really highlights that.
Aww so refreshing, I must express my gratitude, as we all should! I am grateful that such a gifted, creative, artists exists, in today's oceans of extra light gauge, pressed wood, G, C, D, no verse/repetitive sameness. I am grateful this artist chooses to share his wonderfully, heavy, and thought provoking, lyrics, sparsely dotted with such powerful well placed guitar parts, that one must stop the car, truck, or in our case, rental van, in order to fully absorb everything that is actually going on in his recordings and live performances. It's safe to say, 20 plus yrs have passed since a song has moved two or more souls on a trip to goosebumps, then tears, leading to 20 minutes of rewinds. Thank you from a rental van of musicians, at a reststop near Tucumcari.
You sir have written a comment that expressed my thoughts exactly! Jason should be the Springsteen of this generation but they cant move past the beer drinking on my tailgate dreck. Or spending more time in the gym then writing a good song.
seen him last summer and went to see him again last month, absolutely love him, live is amazing show. hopefully the next time his wife will be with him, i have heard from fans that its a great experience seeing them perform together live.
Sadly, most people don't have the time, substance and heart the listen. The music that moves most people these days is a formula sound machine void of a pulse and heartbeat.
Yeah that does seem to be the case for far too many people---not to get too political--but they went for the same sort of thing in our politics, in voting for someone who had what sounded like a good message, but was really just full of hot air and no substance. People want simple things that they don't have to think about too much--pretty much that way with music, food, politics, religion and many other things.....
Jst floored. The songs, the singing AND his guitar playing are just amazing. The band, everything so well done and done with conviction. Beautiful. Thank you Jason. Very happy for his success and new family.
Couldn't agree more The end of the song is lifted by the keyboards, then the guitar takes it to places unbelievably wonderful On the album this ding is sublime, live it's a true masterpiece Breath-taking and heartfelt lyrics, great accompaniment then the song lifts off to somewhere else Magical Lovely to see Jason's mother and he's a genuinely great artist
My 29 yr old son and his wife love watching Jason any chance they get; 3 yrs ago he got me to first listen to his music; he*s now one of my favorite musicians along with his wife Amanda Shires. I especially love his last 3 albums.I think he is one of the best songwriters of this generationI’ I will finally have the chance to see him live Memorial Day Weekend, What a privilege.
That snare tone come 4:55 is unreal. Great mix by the engineer throughout the whole song. Every time I watch an Isbell performance I'm blown away. Seeing him at Roo this past year was a dream.
Love the perspective that you have on this. Another perspective maybe that the reason things are the way they are is because there’s been multiple ways it’s been done and that’s why it works so well and has stuck. Change for the sake of progress or change isn’t always necessary
Alot better than neil young. He has already written more songs than neil at a younger age. Better singer and more diversity in his guitar playing than Neil
A fn genius, so glad the whoever got the brilliant idea to use cover me up in Billions, that is how found him, Tyty his getting The marrow out of every song.

you are very right about that!

Just be sure the driver is sober
Jason Isbell is by far one of the best artists around. I feel like he is still a gem I only know about. Most people still don't know how great he is.
Believe me, you are not alone in appreciating his music!

Derek, you nailed it man. Could try to string some thought together worthy of Jason and The 400 Unit, but will let your comment do the talking.

Life changing song. He’s such a true and genuine song writer 🤌🏻
So glad I came across him a couple years ago. He had a huge impact on restoring my faith in modern music.

Magical
Lovely to see Jason's mother and he's a genuinely great artist
what a jam at the end, amazing, a guy in his prime.
+Scott Stevens The guitar just speaks to you.
Nice to revisit this. And so glad these 5 are still together and better than ever. Such an amazing band.
folks you are experiencing a true artist here..
and a spectacular lyricist and guitar player. You can see how much he loves his guitar - almost like a sweet, sad singer playing on its own.

My personal favorite Isbell song. 🎶
His slide playing is brilliant!!!! He makes it look effortless!!!!

Yes! The snare tone is haunting...
good find. Indeed.
dunno if I've ever heard a loud electric music performance sound this good on TV ...
So glad I woke up that early Saturday morning to hear this song. Great song and band.
To me--that was the best song from Something More than Free. Loved the anthemic ending and wow---that guitar playing. Really great.
And his music just keeps getting better and better and better. Thanks for sharing your gift, good sir.
The best recording of this great song I've heard yet. Such a gifted musician/songwriter.
+Dean O , Huge Isbell fan here and you are spot on. They have never done this better that I have heard than right here. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
+4199ny I saw him in KC and then in Omaha a couple weeks ago. It was better in the 4th row. He is amazing.
+Dean O , I have seen him 3 times and you are right, he is great live.
What a true story teller.....a talent not shared by many modern music for sure !
Absolutely brilliant
The world needs a jason isbell, john Moreland, whiskey Myers, cody jinks, jamey johnson tour
Love that fill by Chad at 6:28. Such a great freaking band.
Jason has only scratched the surface of what he'll become. He's something very special.
He and John Moreland are the 2 best songwriters... Powerful lyrics that hit you in the gut and make you question your manhood
What a brilliant and outright haunting piece of music. 🤦🏻♂️. Wow.
Takes me back to my parents and those of other kids as I grew up Such hard work, occasional heroism, and humility.
Good lord Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit are one of the greatest bands of all time
Absolutely beautiful.
so amazing! great, moving jam at the end with the slide
That slide playing ❤️🔥 great song!
Just saw him at Red Rocks this summer. Beyond belief how good he and his bad are!
Man, that Dusenberg he's playing sounds amazing.

Jason is our Neil Young.
He is a much better songwriter than Young and has written many more. He's a damn good guitar player and I enjoy his singing alot more than Neil's
Alot better than neil young. He has already written more songs than neil at a younger age. Better singer and more diversity in his guitar playing than Neil
@@lastnamefirst4035 Jason is one of the best electric slide players too.

Wow, can I breathe again now? That was intense.
I’m not crying; you’re crying. Coolest mid-song guitar change ever.,
Dang good jamming !!
Some heavy dope for a Saturday morning show🤣
Rockin in the free world..
Amazing
awesome.
Awesome
LOVE
shades of Like a Hurricane- somewhere the old Neil is smiling....
I heard a little "Old man"
I hear a little bit of Buffalo Springfield in there: "Expecting To Fly". Can you hear it?
Jason covered "Like a Hurricane" on his Live from Alabama record if you haven't heard it. Good stuff!
Wow!
Got DAMN, that drummer tho...
Next in line as America's songwriter. Bruce is passing the tirch.
What's the hollow body arch top with floating bridge he playing slide with at the end?
It’s a Duesenberg
The fact that this is great goes without saying, but is Jason heaps taller than everyone else, or is it just a really weird camera lens?
What is the guitar that he switches to for the finale
No clue, but I want one
It's a duesenberg (spelling?)
Top of my head I think they're a German company.
Start 01:38
Whoa X
just disovered Jason, wow!
Roll Tide, Jason!!
He has came a long way from Green Hill.
That beautiful southern accent his mom has you will here nowhere else but Alabama.
I gotta be honest guys. This sucks without Amanda on the fiddle. Listen to the version in Boston. It blows this away.
the guy from terminator
Berna and Les
Great tune. It really reminds me of Paul Weller's "As You Lean Into the Light."

She decided to bang. He can feel guilty for being born though lol
Doesn’t effect me
Thank you, wordsmith.
