- The NEW Steyr AUG is Here!@JamesReeves accidentally gives Steyr's next-gen AUG its official name in this video! James speaks with Brian Marshall of the Steyr Academy about the upcoming Steyr AUG A3 M2. The Steyr AUG A3 M2 has already been released in Europe, but it's coming to the US. The main differences here involve changes to the receiver that allow for a longer optic rail and a quick-disconnect and modular handguard design. The new upper receiver that accommodates the handguard and redesigned optic rail is new, but it is 100% compatible with AUG A3 M1 stock grups/lower receivers.

HARD TO IMPROVE ON PERFECTION
austria, for gods sake!
You can tell James was thinking of Hop every time the phrase "night vision *shit*" was mentioned
We were thinking of him too.
That’s a brass fuckin FACT
Sometimes, when I am in the middle of nowhere throwing lead in the dark, I imagine hop will swoop by with a tier chart and discuss what flashlight, laser, etc. is the best.
@@Cicero1776 If he ever discusses what fleshlight is best, i'd still wat that tierlist
HOP would rather upgrade various hk's in vain out of disdain for the aug.
I can see you were super stoked he got the Die Hard reference. My favorite man-child on UA-cam. With all due respect of course.
“We’ll get together … have a few laughs…”
You asked for miracles, Theo, I give you the F. B. I.
Ho ho ho
Now I know what a TV dinner feels like.
Welcome to the party, pal.
Come out to the coast
So an Aug with a chunk of mlok instead of the fold down grip. Man the leaps and bounds they've made over the original 😮
This deserves to be pinned at the top 📍
Feels like they had to even cut out some of the struggling to get the thing off, that's a long dovetail
it’s a minor change but a substantial improvement. The rails and MLOK available for the Aug A3 M1 were not great.
Wonder if it comes with the cracking stock too.
To be fair, while this is a small change and is simply a rail it does take a significant amount of time and effort to design the part to fit properly and have good tolerance to fit repeatable. There is a lot of cad and cam design that goes into this as well as setting your machines up with the right tooling and work holding. People expect every update to firearms to be some kind of “revolutionary” update. The Aug is a fine design and advanced for its time even now. So any improvement is welcome.
The thumbnail is the classic “I was LARPing in this direction but the bad guy appeared in THAT direction” pose
I'm glad to see Steyr working to update the platform!
Idk if I’d call it an update. They basically put 2 inches of MLOK rail on it
I was honestly hoping for an upgraded trigger pack straight from the factory. Overall it's a nice little upgrade :)
Check out Titus. He's got an ar15 trigger pack that fits in the Aug and it's amazing.
There's plenty of aftermarket ones for that. And tbh I don't think they officially condone them as it can make the gun less drop safe if it falls on the butt
@@rodiculous9464 SIG P320 reference..nice.
Hey! As someone else already stated in a reply, I'm the owner of Titus Arms, and while I'm a little biased, we probably sell the best AUG FCG / Trigger on the market, hands down. It's also open-source.
@@corbinxtituslet me check out your goods, my guy. If I like what I see, I’m buying
James needs to do a vid with his NATO AUG while using a 60rd drum P-Mag.
Even standing and one handed the NATO AUG shoots great.
NATO AUG? Gross!!! That's like be being bi-curious and only wanting to catch!
@@locomike102 Like all bullpups, the action is in the rear.
@@mig1nc Stuff it in back and pull the little thingy in front? lol
I have tried it, it makes it awkward to hold because your hand has to bend unnaturally around the drum mag. Something like a schmeisser or surefire coffin mag would work better
MAGPUL Also makes the Proprietary AUG mags so what is your point? Lol
And... you missed the main point! The rail can now take a laser without interfering with the optic.
Dammit James, I do need $ for liquor and shorts. 🤷🏼♂️ help a little maybe!?!
It's weird to think this design is coming up on 50 years old, this is almost a C&R firearm, but Steyr was there so long before everyone else was even thinking about things like all polymer receivers, integral optics, vertical foregrips, or polymer mags. Still a quick detach barrel on any rifle is a niche feature.
Never mind this was the first standard issue bullpup rifle that all other bullpups are still measured against. No, EM-2 you don't count, you were never standard issue.
In Die Hard when he puts the rifle together in the elevator and tells the two other guys "nobody kills him but me" such a cold line
My concern is how hot does that little Mlok Handguard get after couple mags.
Red
Did they fix the cracking stocks?
Nope
So glad I got the A3 SA all those years ago and put the Corvus Defensio upgrades on it!
This actually looks pretty cool and it seems to be actually competitive with modern bullpups without being an ugly mess of picatiny rails.
I wonder what the trigger is like. My bullpup has a fantastic factory trigger, which I wasn't expecting at all since every video on UA-cam with a bullpup in it has a bit mentioning the awful trigger. 😂
Dude! now that is an AUG! it is amazing how such a little thing as just adding a handguard changes the aesthetics of the entire AUG. Love it.
When you thought it could not get any cooler...
looks like how should've from the start ❤
I just hope people call it an A U G and not an “og” anymore.
I think one of the most exciting things said here is James having had his nato stock converted to have a bolt release.
We need deets on this
Yes, how is this done?
Do tell
Ill def get one of these in the NATO stock to compliment the AUG A3 I already have (old Sabre-Steyr guns that came in from 09-12)
God I love the AUG platform.. my favourite rifle of all time
Bravo for the STEYR AUG !!
Just what I have been waiting for. I bought the 40th anniversary gun and love it but wanted one setup to actually run in modern carbine classes, this is it.
Love this gun and excited about the .300blk version. Good guest speaker. Hoping Steyr keeps rolling out all kinds of new stuff!
Ordered
Cant wait for you to shill it up.
Must be nice 😅
All those M-LOK slots are perfect for mounting Olights.
This will be a great review!
Review it!!!!i need your opinion
New handgaurd without redesigning the gas system so now youre gonna get the fastest heating handgaurd on the market lmao
Can’t wait for the new models to come out. huge fan of the platform.
Damn it James, you couldn't have come out with this couple a weeks ago before I spent $1,800 on the old gen
Jk, I can't afford an Aug even if I wanted one. The only bullpup I want is the SA80.
@@bloodking73 speak for yourself
I love that you review firearms I don't see anyone else talking about. Thank you.
Let's just call it what it is; they put an MLOK handguard on an AUG.
Gonna be way easier to mount lights and lasers. It essentially makes this the best bullpup to deck out with modern fighting implements. Its not a massive change if you leave your guns bone stock. If you have NV and use weapon lights, this is gonna be immensely better
This is the same kind of guy who whines about not being able to mount accessories, then immediately whines when the company solves the problem.
@@CatholicKitUm, yea. So basically what you're saying is it's an Aug with an mlok handguard 😂
@@BrokenBarBoxno we are whining about all the problems the Aug has straight out of the factory then instead of addressing all of those issues in a new release they put an mlok handguard on it and call it a new gun 😂
@@clutchboi4038 that may be your complaint (and a valid sounding one at that) but the op is just whining about MLOK
I've owned AUGs for decades and own several now. It'd be great is someone would metion/admit to the issues with the cracking stocks. It "may only be 1%" or whatever. But it's been going on since 2020 or so.
AUG casually being the coolest bullpup once again
Lmao his face when you asked the price was... priceless
Steyr Arms just was sold to the Czech RSBC Group.
Interesting, how it will affect the plans🤔
Since he wont say the price we'll say... Steyr: Double the regular price of the current price lol
So they made the coolest looking gun in mass production even cooler. Impressive!
Loving all the AUG vids. Been a huge fan of the platform since my counter-strike days, all the way up to actually learning about firearms. Thanks for all the great info!
Would James Reeves have ultimately been better casting than Tom Cruise in the Mission Impossible films? Maybe.
Are we not going to talk about the bolt release on James's A3M1 Nato?
I'm in love. I mean the AUG this time, sorry James.
I still need to add a AUG to my collection
Here after the released it, prices went down significantly. Looking onto buying one.
Def getting the 300 blk when it hits the market
I absolutely love the AUG. Own one myself. I know some police departments in the past had problems getting parts for their rifles. I hope the best for Steyr.
Steyr needs to issue a statement on the stock cracking issue before anyone buys one of these.
So basically it's the return of the CQC concept but with mlok and it should be compatible for those people who have the few actual CQC kits
I’m surprised you didn’t set it up with a suppressor. It looks even more compact and light than before. This will be interesting
Its like when a car oem does a facelift on a current model. New looks and some improvements but much is still the same.
I like it! The extra real estate is always appreciated.
Hope they are addressing the stocks that are cracking …
I bought the A3AW (“integrated” 3x optic). I couldn’t find a fore-end grip that let me keep the scope and the stock vertical grip. I designed and installed a “dropper” piece that merely moves the vertical grip downward one whole inch. Now I can use the grip in both vertical and horizontal orientations without burning myself, and the 1” drop in vertical orientation doesn’t bother me at all.
Pre zeroed snap an excesories are the shit when your on the move.
The new hand guard is really neat!
When your military absolutely, positively has to look more svelte than any other soldier in the room.
The wife told me once to go buy an AUG. I was excited until she told me it was at Home Depot and for unclogging a toilet lol.
Now it just needs to come with a reversible bolt for easy left hand swapping and it’ll actually be impressive
Fingers are getting pretty close to the muzzle there 😮 I’d want a longer muzzle device or run with with a suppressor
Fun fact: the aug a3m2 is going to be the new rifle of the Austrian sof ( Jagdkommando ).
I'd love to own one. The first rifle I ever bought was an AAUG replica and it was pretty cool but unreliable. A real one would be badass.
Feels like this is a good and tasteful evolution of the AUG. Even though the MLOK looks like it's annoying to get in and off, at least you can still do it, and it's not like you'll be doing that in any combat situation, so does it really matter?
Hate to say it but .... "Whooo cares?" Just a new rail..
I keep mine 100% McClane w/ a 3x...damn it am I a Fudd
Seems like they could offer a replacement top rail and this new handguard as a kit for the M1.
You would have a hump or something over the area with the sling point unfortunately. Or you could find a way to avoid the hump, if you went around the area, possible have a piece that sits inside the QD point to brace and strengthen the area.
I was expecting a new piston system or something when hot gas problem mentioned and they just added cover over the hot gas output. 😂
I wanted an Aug since I was 9, this makes me want one even harder
i feel like they need to update the trigger and safety for this thing to make it really stand out
Love the AUG content!! Got a NATO version this year. You having a modified bolt release on your NATO version was mentioned. Is that something you had installed or was he just referring to it being different from the waffle version?
I wish they would update the trigger as well as the modularity and handguard. I know I can get aftermarket triggers now but it still kinda sucks that the stock trigger is so bad on AUGs. Still very interesting and neat to see though. I might have to get an AUG one of these days...
Sadly they are banned in Canada yet we can have the Chinese version of the Famas.. makes no sense.
move
It's because the Famas is better known as the surrender stick lol!
Sucks to always be a Canadian eh 😂😂😂😂
because the clown minister admires china and their basic dictatorship
Sounds like your government needs to be reminded it serves you
Anyone else tired of these companies turning to the American civilian bankroll after saying no for decades because the various government contracts ran dry?
Sucks that it doesn't fit on the A3M1 receiver, but at least Steyr is *finally* taking real steps to modernize the AUG. Now if these would ship with the Red springs from the factory, it'd be a perfect generational improvement.
To be fair, the A3 M1 receiver should’ve never came into existence. That was a horrible design choice by Steyr
@@RevolverOcelot79What about it was so bad again? I know the issue being is that it isn't compatible with the original AUG A3 SAs, and well now this new AUG receiver.
@@killerratchet1973 The hump at the front of the receiver fucks you over for handguards
@@RevolverOcelot79That’s fair.
I'm retired and have 7 guns left on my bucket list to get. The styer Aug is a model I want two of in my safe. I drool over my Uncle who has 2 of the full auto versions. So sweet to shoot.
With the previous model you could quickly disengage the barrel to fix feed issues, i don't see it as being a viable option with this Americanised version.
They should sell AUG KITS like the Australian military style and more.
I was watching America 3000 and im glad this came out before WW3
Steyr really needs to address the issue of cracking stocks. There’re way too many and it’s going to ruin their reputation. Honestly, it’s at the point where they need to issue a recall.
Not
Tired of all these companies not being able to answer pricing and availability, or telling us its years out. Basically they're admitting their profits are down after stagnating, riding their on their coattails for years and, so only now they are considering doing something "new" but they don't really know what to do so they are fishing for market reaction.
Wow, how dare they try to obtain feedback about how well their new products will be welcomed before spending millions of dollars on R&D then production. What a shit company
Jesus Christ some people are freakin dumb
Government contracts for their 40+ year old designs run out and suddenly they care about the civ market.
This is new. Make up your mind
Did the new AUG design incorporate a brass deflector, you guys glossed over it? When you finally get to shoot it, try it L/H and from barriers. Thanks as always for the cool toys to look at.
The one shown also has an improved mag release. I doubt these will come on the factory gun.
Please don’t discontinue the standard grip version….. please
Review the desert tech WLVRN Please
What about the RS-556? Even though it didn't get the Bundeswehr contract, could a civilian version be brought to market in the US?
Where and how do I get a bolt release on my nato mag version. Who modified it james?
Wasn’t their talk of the NATO version getting upgraded? Like receiving a bolt release? I swear I heard someone say the NATO was guna get a bolt release.
The important question is how much money? I'm guessing 2300-2500 at launch but I can't justify that outside of getting one because I have augtism and they have a coolness factor but for practicality they seem useless.
The US market runs on triggers. This isn’t enough to convince Americans to purchase en masse even though we all know the Bullpup is the better design. 🥴🤕😅
But why would you need to change the gas. Isn't it just K, Live & Grenade (Military version).
So there will be other calibers besides 5.56 and .300 blackout? Which ones exactly?
Not to nitpick- because its cool seeing Steyr work on updates, and it's fully welcomed, but i wish they focused more on the "receiver group" a bit more and made that more modern. That's always been my complaint with the clunky controls and trigger. Its built like a gameboy color.
I wonder if they got a 9mm version coming out that takes Glock mags 🤔
That’s the dream
They’ve already demonstrated they can with the Brazilian 40 S&W Glock mag aug SMG contract for their police.
Steyr have produced a 9mm conversion kit for the last 40 years.
Can we have a new rule: no price or availability, no video? Tired of these games. Went to their website, there's no obvious link to look for a dealer? Through a google search, a page turns up, but it says 'coming soon'. Quite the level of dedication from Steyr. I'll skip their guns for now.
Getting real tired of you tfb threatening my wallet
Now, about that under-barrel rail at 7:00 and 7:20......
Please have a longer handguard for the 20" and the 24" barrels, and a version with a 6.5 Grendel caliber, so it shoots supersonic past 1,000 yards, hits like 7.62x51, but still recoils more like a 5.56mm, while still using OEG waffle mags.
A 6.5 Grendel variant is a dream many of us AUG owners share.
oh fuck I'm so down for a Grendel version. Heresy Design speculated about doing a 7.62x39 swap down the line, depending how successful their current 9mm and .300 offerings amount to. from there, it would be a simple matter of barrel change
Curious what hop and brassfacts may think of this. It looks like it may be able to put nv and lights a lot easier
People don’t buy augs to be up to date, they buy augs to be like Karl in Die Hard. Hopefully Steyr fixed their plastic mixture to prevent current aug from cracking in half. That is the current reason that is keeping me from snapping one up.
Wow! Looks good.
Holy shit the amount of jump cuts and repetition of actions and information. Had to do multiple takes while filming this I guess? I’d love to get an AUG someday.
To anyone who likes the rail over that sweet sweet AUG vertical grip go play in the street!👎🏽🤯🔫
That CETME on the wall tho 👀
I'm hoping for an early Christmas Present... From my wife. Not from ya'll. 😁😆
20 inch barrel and longer handguard please
So the M2 does indeed have LRBHO and release even with NATO Mags?
Okay but when are we getting chrome lined barrels?
Never giving up my stock vertical grip. If I have to grip the damn flashlight in my teeth - so be it!😁
