I'm the shooter..... I had just had surgery and believe me.... It was painful to shoot.... and as far as my eye that you see.... I am legally blind in that eye... and it flinches and shuts all the time... We were just slinging out the lead to prove that it was working right again.... not really aiming.... As far as the sporterized Mosin M28..... I was given this rifle in this condition..... I sure as heck wouldn't do that to such a rare rifle....Since this video several years ago Eric and I restored the M28 back to it's former glory... Keep shooting and God Bless !
Great video ! I have an m44 and the bolt was locked up with a spent shell casing in it . I got fed up with it and left it in my cabinet for a few months i finaly just said screw it and hit it open with a rubber mallet took it out to the range and still works perfectly .They are pretty tuff guns and withstand the test of time
My 91/30 had the worst sticky bolt of all time, but I realized there was a slight amount of cosmoline in the chamber and I cleaned it out. It now cycles without any problems. I had to speed shoot about 50 rounds, then clean and scrub it out while the rifle was pretty hot in order to get all the gunk out, but it worked. Also nice fireballs on that thing haha.
Very true, and I appreciate the effort you put into these videos. After seeing the video I spent a few hours working on my 1926 Tula M91/30 last night. I just wanted to point out your friend has a very serious shooting problem that will ruin his accuracy. He can fix it with dry firing and practice.
Stickiness is not normally caused by an unpolished bolt/chamber but from the ammo used. Eastern Bloc countries develop their ammo loadings for their mild /cold climates and used in warmer temperatures here in the US the ammo is creating higher (dangerous) pressures.
Antlerless gun deer season is coming up October 15 here in Wisconsin and it's going to be my first year using a my mosin nagant. What SP ammo do you recommend for deer hunting?
In my "WW2 Collection" I have 3 Mosins. Also, my Son and Daughter each have a Mosin. M Daughter's is a '38 and is completely refurbished and polished. It has a surprisingly smooth action comparable to our Mausers. My Mosin's are all 3 beasts and require manly strength to operate the bolts. Even when rifles were brand new and issued to troops during the war veterans say that the bolts required much strength to work the action.
How do you get your Mosin to look so good? I have a 1943 Ishevsk. the wood is peeling off. With nearly every shot. I dont want it to lose its originality. Its all original. I dont want to change anything.
Hey man good to see all that work helps. But I was wondering why you call your Finn the cadillac? I'm not a Mosin Nagant expert and know almost nothing about the Finns, is there something special about it?
I haven't shot it yet but I'll let you know after I do. I didn't have any of that abrasive compound you used but I think I got the same thing done with fine grit sand paper and I did a lot of polishing on all the parts of the bolt that come in contact with metal surfaces. Just dry firing and going through the motions felt smoother. We'll see when I run 20 rounds through it quickly.
i have a 91/30 nagant myself, converted it to original WW2 sniper version. I have a yugo m48 coming in a few days. Was just wondering, because i seen you shoot an m48 in another vid; if you see any advantages the mosin has over the m48. just curious thanks.
I had this problem also so I pulled the bullets on some Czech Silvertip surplus ammo...weighed the factory loading (50 grains), reloading them with smaller increments...2 grains at a time. The bolt stopped sticking at 42 grains of surplus powder in 95 degree weather.
That is a beautiful stock and handguard on the M44... how did he do this? I am seriously considering purchasing a M1891/30 in the summer and would like to know.
Ha Ha...no kidding....I am so happy I got it free...I had no idea what kind of gun it was...but now I have the Mosin Nagant Fever....I am hooked...The history of each gun alone is so much fun to research...
Beautiful rifles! The bolt seems very smooth after you polished it =) I'm getting my first gun (finaly persuaded my parents) it's a browning buckmark and it's coming in this week :D
Does the short, straight bolt make it too difficult to pull it back while still aiming? If so, I'd adapt one of the mosin sniper bolts to it, out of personal preference.
so polishing the chamber on a mosin nagant helps sticky bolt ??? I use to have one that I got rid of that had that problem.. I have a sniper variant that does not have this problem, and I admit i was hesitant on getting a couple more mosins because of the problem I had with the one I use to own, but if thats all you need to do is polish the chamber then it sounds like I may be in the market for a mosin nagant in the near future.
Haha, yeah. Im at college, so I dont have the rifle here. But the mount is welded on right? Can you find replacement barrels for them and change it out like that?
im using winchester 7.62x54r....someone online told me the rims on the new cartridges are thinner than the old ones..would that cause a problem? also ive noticed a little burr on the lip of the receiver...maybe i need to polish the bolt handle area where it makes contact?...
i must say very smooth bolt action on those puppies....if i could only get mine to function like that....how do u know if youve overpolished it?ive already polished mine several times, and i took a ring off the firing pin spring as well....but it still sticks....evil ivan
On that sporter m28... how is the forened finished off, and why is it a lighter tone wood? It appears rounded and nicley done opposed to being bubbarized. I have a 91 30 that I want to sporterize the stock and not have it looking like sh"" like alot I see on the net. Anyways, I really like the rounded finish on that 28.
speakin of magazine interrupters fartin out, my 91/30 is starting to "eject" rounds as i close the bolt to load. Is the interrupter whats most likely causing that?
I have to literally beat my bolt into the upward position after shooting. Is this what is meant by bolt stick? I used some remmington action cleaner and sprayed my whole bolt down and gave it a good wipe down. I than cleaned out my chamber as best as I could however I had trouble cleaning the lugs.
I've been slowly doing a series on marlin leverguns, but man it has to cool off more before I do anything else. It's finally started to cool off over here in Tejas but its still hot, but I did notice the leaves are falling off the tree's around here early so maybe we got some cool weather coming soon, then I can finish up that series I'm doing. I wish I had a place where I could go shoot like you do, it would make things much easier.
So I hear, and I've been looking forward to that project BIG TIME. I really enjoyed the SKS project and all you did was add more guns to my list to buy. All the marlins in my gun safe and at the local gunshop must feel neglected... lol
beauties! I've got some mosin nagants i'm waiting on to clear at my ffl. I CAN'T WAIT! Good job using the sling in the latter portion of the video. USE THOSE SLINGS PEOPLE! And try practicing prone and sitting cuz we may be in a war here in the near future. Rapid fire means nothing with out accuracy! Accuracy first then work on the speed!
@Mr62ford thanks for the info, Im seriously considering getting one, I saw one at our local Cabelas for cheap. Hopefully Ill be enjoying one soon. Happy shooting man.
LOL! You're right, I am crazy. I aint's jes ones dem normal folks round here in texas. :P I agree that the m38 is a good little walking gun. I assume its lighter than m44 due to not having the bulk of the bayonet and such on the front correct? I will send you that video tomorrow.
A Finn M39 I'd say is up there within the ranks of the K31. Very accurate rifles. Most Finn MN rifles had Finn barrels put on them. Its hard to beat a Finn MN.
That is exactly what I thought when the M28 was given to me...but it was free...and I finally found a M28 stock...just have to find the bands that go with the stock now...
@BloodySawBlade Winchester, Sellier & Bellot, and possibly Privi Partisan makes new factory ammo. I bought two boxes of winchester and reload the brass. Aim Surplus has cheap surplus ammo as well.
I decided that I'm just going to try to use my Silver Bear's for the antlerless hunt coming up and try the Winchesters for the actual November gun season.
I'm fairly sure the finn was sported/bubba'd back in the day- not recently. What's a guy supposed to do with 'em when they walk into a pawn shop that way?
sir i am also a Navy vet with 22 yrs i was a MS can u tell me in detail how to polish the chambers of the Moisin Nagant series rifles? I have 4 a Finnish model 39,Russian M-38/M-44 Carbines, and a 91 30 pls tell we Mr Hill got such a bewtifull stock for his sporter can you pls advise? thank -you Your friend Mark AKA Gunslinger 2172 A smith & wesson revolver and Colt revolver fan! carry a Colt Official police in 4" bbl 38 special
I know...the gun was given to me for helping my next door neighbor move....at least all it cost me was helping them load 3 - 16 foot trucks full of their stuff... I am trying to locate an original M28 stock...but so far after 2 months...no luck at all...
@Iraqveteran8888 I can't work my bolt very quickly because its really sticky. However there is a *marginally* faster way to work a bolt than the way you do it. Although it can lead to some pinched hands. Basicly You bring your hand straight up catching the bolt between your thumb and your hand and then as you raise your hand you kind of curl your fingers around the top of the rifle to its fully open position and then close it back with your thumb.
daniel johnson - I'm the shooter..... I had just had surgery and believe me.... It was painful to shoot.... and as far as my eye that you see.... I am legally blind in that eye... and it flinches and shuts all the time... We were just slinging out the lead to prove that it was working right again.... not really aiming.... :-)
that one shot at 2:05 you can see what is going on that the recoil is covering up. hes closing his eyes and tensing up his shoulders before he pulls the trigger. and every shot that he made from the first camera he did the same. let the recoil make you flinch. dont flinch before the recoil.
The bolt on my 1944 M91/30, after shooting about 4-5 rounds, it gets very hard to push down the bolt. I actually have to hit it with the side of my hand to close it, and even then sometimes the round dosnt even go off. I then have to open the bolt, take out the round, put it back in, and then close the bolt again, which then it usualy fires. I noticed this probly only really happens when there is more than one round at a time in the gun. Anybody have any clues as to what could be happening? Thx!
Sadly I haven't gotten into handloading yet. I wont use brown bear because I have used other lacquer coated cased ammo and they give me really bad sticky bolt. I do have a box of Silver Bear 203 gr SP's other wise I was thinking about the Winchester 180 gr SP's
I'm the shooter..... I had just had surgery and believe me.... It was painful to shoot.... and as far as my eye that you see.... That M28 is an Octagon Receiver. Rare
I did your treatment on my 1944 Tula Ex sniper, and I can really tell a difference...many thanks for your helpful video!!!!
Great video ! I have an m44 and the bolt was locked up with a spent shell casing in it . Also nice fireballs on that thing haha.
That last model was insane, I love the look and the finish on the stock.
you are one of a very few folks out there who knows what a sling on a rifle for :-)
good job, man!

and he is right, the M39 is a REAL gun! Love mine... had a bad ejector/interruptor and magazine, simply replaced all those parts, all problems gone.
Its ok to flinch , it happens to everyone. I was impressed that you hit the woods dead center everytime lol...
Antlerless gun deer season is coming up October 15 here in Wisconsin and it's going to be my first year using a my mosin nagant. What SP ammo do you recommend for deer hunting?

Bear Brown does make some 7.62x54R, it's not corrisive, but surplus is so cheap you might as well buy it, and just clean your gun
How do you get your Mosin to look so good? I have a 1943 Ishevsk. the wood is peeling off. With nearly every shot. I dont want it to lose its originality. Its all original. I dont want to change anything.

Any suggestions when purchasing a mosin? Would you go with the hex reciever? or the regular one?
the gun at 2:15 is a mosin? It looks like a cross breed of a springfield and a kar98k(i know there isnt such a model but what kind of rifle is that?)
how much did you pay for your Finnish Nagant? I have been looking for one for a long time, they are much better than the regular 91/30 IMO
is it just your style of shooting to lower the gun or are you just watching the chamber on this one i would think you would keep it in your shoulder
Can you use modern-day ammuntion with that gun, or do have to have the bullets custom made to the type of bullet it used in WWII?
Beautiful rifles! The bolt seems very smooth after you polished it =)
I'm getting my first gun (finaly persuaded my parents) it's a browning buckmark and it's coming in this week :D

Just cleaned up a 1940 hex reciever fin, no import marks. Sweet gun.
Haha, yeah. Im at college, so I dont have the rifle here. But the mount is welded on right? Can you find replacement barrels for them and change it out like that?
M39s real slick. I like the winged front sight post
Good video, I have a pair of 91/30's and a pair of 44's , looking forward to taking them out for a session soon.

I saw one of these at the Cabela's here in IL for about $128, should i go for it on my 18th birthday?
He's got a flinch. Smooth it out and roll with it.

@Mr62ford thanks for the info, Im seriously considering getting one, I saw one at our local Cabelas for cheap. Hopefully Ill be enjoying one soon. Happy shooting man.
Does accuracy suffer on the m44 when the bayonet is removed?
He's not closing his eyes, he's flinching.
do they shoot better with the bayonet out? The 91/30s?
@ziegler Closing his eyes is a pretty good instinct when you don't wear safety glasses while shooting. Always use all safety equip.
@preluderacer88 Damn. Am i supposed to bend the "spring" part to increase or decrease pressure?
Nice video! Keep em coming!
what is the sporter one? is it just a 91-30 with no wood up front or what??
LOL! You're right, I am crazy. I aint's jes ones dem normal folks round here in texas. :P
I agree that the m38 is a good little walking gun. I assume its lighter than m44 due to not having the bulk of the bayonet and such on the front correct? I will send you that video tomorrow.
do mosin nagants have to comply with 922r? cause i never hear talk of american parts on mosins.
My M44 has a bayonet mounted on it like his. Is there a way to remove it completely?
A Finn M39 I'd say is up there within the ranks of the K31. Very accurate rifles. Most Finn MN rifles had Finn barrels put on them. Its hard to beat a Finn MN.

Nice video. I have to get some of that bore brite to try it out.
Your local resident flinches.
Can somebody please clear up for me what exactly the sticky bolt issue is. I'm not ashamed to admit I'm confused. What are the symptoms and causes.
He closes his eyes right before every shot
@BloodySawBlade Winchester, Sellier & Bellot, and possibly Privi Partisan makes new factory ammo. I bought two boxes of winchester and reload the brass. Aim Surplus has cheap surplus ammo as well.

Man I can't believe someone wold bubba an M28 like that. I do agree that the M39 is the Cadillac of the family.
I know...the gun was given to me for helping my next door neighbor move....at least all it cost me was helping them load 3 - 16 foot trucks full of their stuff... I am trying to locate an original M28 stock...but so far after 2 months...no luck at all...
Yeah he does. open your eyes while your shooting!!!
Sweet Jesus, that M39 is a beautiful rifle.

I know I'm late and it's probably been said, but based on the rear sight, that's an M27, not an M28.
Nice Hex on the Sporter Mosin
that's a mighty fine looking Finnish M39.
You give me more rifle idea's that my money can afford LMAO
That M28...It makes me wanna cry....
wow the crazy guy shuts his eyes when he shoots
where can you get ammo for mosin nagants
Ha, I have that same Miles Davis shirt. Good taste sir, good taste indeed.
If I get one I'll be sure to tell ya how it went.
What is the best place to pick up a finn M39?
@EvolutionSportsCA the only mosin i know of without a handguard and is used for i do believe sniper training is the vostok rifle
try keeping the gun shouldered when cycling the bolt... alot faster!
finnish m/39 "ukko pekka" and m/27 "pystykorva" is awsome weapons
Damnit, I had little interest in a mosin nagant until now, thanks alot, now I have to buy one damnit.
what is the kick like?
why does the shooter close his eyes when he pulls the trigger?
He's flinching right before he shoots
He's doing it because he's a bad shooter.
zellarsDD777 Hes not necessarily a bad shooter, he just has poor form. Youd be surprised how many people flinch to an extent
daniel johnson - I'm the shooter..... I had just had surgery and believe me.... It was painful to shoot.... and as far as my eye that you see.... I am legally blind in that eye... and it flinches and shuts all the time... We were just slinging out the lead to prove that it was working right again.... not really aiming....
:-)
Travis Hill Sorry, I was kind of a dick. Happy shooting!
Don't forget to close your eyes before you fire ha ha ha
@warhead1122 - Online it's cheap for surplus. It typically comes in 440 round sealed cans for around $80 or so.
that one shot at 2:05 you can see what is going on that the recoil is covering up. hes closing his eyes and tensing up his shoulders before he pulls the trigger. and every shot that he made from the first camera he did the same.

What did you do to that M28?!?!?!?
Карабин Мосина,со штыком для окопных стычек.Отличная штука!Привет всем из Питера!
how do you remove the bayonet?
Thanks Man!
