Even after a year since taking up ukulele I still wonder how to hold it so that it's comfortable to play regardless of the technique. Thanks for the video! It instantly made me want to practice:) regards from Poland!
Thanks for this. I appreciate that your approach this is open-minded. So many discussions seem to be based on "you'll figure it out" between right arm pressure and left hand support. I've been playing for just about 6 months, but have decided a strap resolves those compromises. Jim
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I started out about a month ago and have been struggling with my wrist hurting after about 30 minutes. I figured it was finally time to learn the basics and this one video changed everything! Now it’s much easier to hold and practice for longer! Can’t thank you enough!!!
Thanks Terry, yet again, answering the questions here that others have not addressed. Sounds a simple question but, as you show, the way in which you hold the ukulele can go a long way in helping you to play. Feeling comfortable holding your ukulele the correct way when playing will give you more confidence by you not constantly thinking its going to slip down.
Woah, that instrument sounds incredible! I was shocked when you played it for the first time halfway through the video - that is not the sound I have come to expect from ukes.
Thanks for this video :)) . I'm a beginner and would like to know if adding a strap button to my Uke will alter its sound in any way. Love from India. ☺
Great question. Adding a strap button in the back will not effect the sound. There is a block of wood inside your ukulele where the screw goes into to hold the strap button securely.
He's great, but I still don't know how to properly hold the neck of my tiny non-strap ukulele. How do I go from D to Em without resting the neck on the padding at the base of my index finger?
My challenge (I'm left handed but play right handed if that matters) is that no matter how I hold the instrument it seems the pressure from my left forearm moves the neck of the ukulele away from my body, so it always moves as changing chords. I'd like to take an online course, yet until I can figure this part out, how to hold it without it moving forward (even with a strap seems to happen, but less), think I'd be wasting my time. Any advice please? Thanks so much, Adam
Hello. My daughter is 10 years old and an aspiring ukulele player. Today she got her first ukulele :) I was tuning it and keep having to tweak the tuning again and again. Is that common with a new ukulele?
@@Ukelikethepros ok good. It's just a beginner ukulele from a site called Gear4music. The thing is she is very likely to get tired of it if she doesn't learn some easy tunes quick 😁 So I try to help her even though I can't play it that well myself
Oh- Ive been using my left hand to strum 😳 i guess thats why some chords seemed a bit hard- But its so hard to switch sides now D: i dont understand how to hold my fingers now
I know this comment is old, but in case you didn't think about it, you can just change the tuning of your ukulele upside down and play like you used to ;3
I'm practicing bahr chords and that's what I find the most challenging. I find that bahr chords are easier when the thumb is in the middle of the back of the neck and because I'm supporting the neck's weight with my index finger my thumb is not in the middle of the neck.
I physically cannot hold and keep my concert in place no matter how hard I try tho I can hold my soprano up which is a shame cus I mainly use my concert :(
You can have the best video in the world! But if the first thing that comes out of your mouth is your used car salesman reverse psychology telling that if I listen to anyone but you I would stay at the same level that I am you will lose a lot of customers! Like for example.....ME! Don’t be so arrogant you are not the only one and definitely not the best!
Lmao man ya read that SO wrong. That is not what he said haha. He said that signing up for the course will just help you get better faster, as you'll have a super in-depth subscription-based service. He didn't say anything about any other people
Winner of a video, I been tryin to find out about "how easy is it to learn the ukulele" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Fenaylern Nonpareil Formula - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? It is a good one off product for discovering how to play the ukulele like a pro without the hard work. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my co-worker got cool success with it.
i got a ukulele as a present and i play guitar and i dont know how to play ukulele, so i have been playing it like a guitar the whole time
I'm the complete opposite
Same man
Same!
Got mine today for Christmas. And I’ve been pretending it’s a miniature guitar the whole time
I play the ukulele and got a gutair

Cool, glad it helped and inspired. Hadn't made it to Poland yet, so nice to hear from you from so far away.

Tbh I just came here because I want to know if I'm holding it upside down
sameee😭
Same :D I'm left handed but I realized I hold it like a right handed person would
@@oliviawoloshyn5824 wow that's awesome. i hope to be able to play like that too

Best video I’ve found on this super basic, but still kind of confusing, skill! Thanks!
Thank you. You’ll get it just keep learning and stick with it

Sometimes when strings are new they stretch and at some point should settle. What did you get her?

Where can I find that beautiful ukulele? What model/brand is it? Thanks for this video! It helps my daughter and me learn how to hold the ukulele!

Were you able to switch hands? I’ve been strumming with my left hand and I didn’t notice because all my chords sounded fine.

Right!?!
You helped me. Thank you!❤️
LOVE your videos! I’m so glad I found your channel. You’re a great teacher! 🤗❤️
Thank you. It’s my honor to have you here with me
I feel my fingers are too fat for a ukulele. HELP 😭
get a larger size like a concert or tenor and not a suprano because larger sizes have bigger frets! hope this helps in some way :)
C’mon! IZ played soprano uke. There’s no such thing as « too big » for this instrument. I’m not making fun, it’s just a matter of fact
You say in your video with the strap that you need to maintain this gap. Without a strap, this is the default position for making chords then?
I like this. So happy I found your channel.
Right on, welcome
I don’t know how to place my fingers. Do you have a lesson for that?
that good video! Greetings from Colombia

Hey! You have great quality content, really learned and motivated to try again at this.

How do you hold your soprano? I cant seem to find any space to put my forearm without it touching the strings when I try to strum
Not sure bcz I play guitar, no matter how I hold, it still feels uncomfortable 😶
Me just picked up a ukelele hearing your first melody 😵😵 that’s was sexy 😅🤣
How do you hold it if you have boobs?
I hope I saw this earlier!!
I think mine is out of tune
video is ok, but dude kept on shaking his leg and I couldn't focus ahahahaha :)
