I wanted to follow up Captain America with another show from the Marvel Super Heroes show and Thor was the top suggestion for how surreal it got and boy was whittling down a video for this an arduous process. I'll give Grantray-Lawrence props for picking out some of the best of the Lee/Kirby run of Thor: Loki, Enchantress, Destroyer Armor, The Executioner, The Absorbing man, Hercules. They picked the best the run how to offer up until that point. I can appreciate a passionate, introspective powerhouse and modern adaptations just don't do the man justice in my humble opinion. Best part of the comics and this show though is that Odin is really bad at disciplining his kids and due to the cut-and-paste nature of the program it looks like Odin is big on hats and changes his hat constantly and no one says anything about it as they're used to it. How many different hats does Odin have? I don't know. No one knows.
Also the fact that they were begrudgingly forced to try harder to animate some things will never not be funny.

12:38 I love the fact that Odin isn't shocked by Loki and Thor fighting but because he didn't gave them his consent.
That seems about right
At this point, the have been at it for millennia, nothing to be surprised here.
Sounds a lot like him.
"Use my powers to heal the sick children? Nah"
*Throws their beds around*
I mean... that is the most Thor thing to do.
How would thor cure sickness? He's thor
His alter-ego Donald Blake is a medic.
*"HE ALWAYS WAS CHARITABLE!!"*
although if this were Norse mythology Thor; he could just conk them over the head with the hammer and cure them, he could even revive dead creatures, on long trips without any food; he used to kill and eat his transport goats and then he'd hit their bones with a hammer and it would bring them back to life, it does a lot more than just thunder.
Mjolnir can absorb energy, teleport and shoot a powerful energy beam called the God Blast.
"Hulk, the whole world will blow up if you don't help"
"Good"
lmao
Grumpy Hulk.
"Hulk, you can't let the world explode! That's where you keep your stuff!"
27:30 in case you are looking for the quote, lol. Some people just quote but never give time of it, smdh.
Hulk: Hulk Not Stupid, Hulk Will Not Join.
*Cuts To Space Shot Of Earth.*
*Earth Explodes.*
And yet nihilist Hulk is supposed to be Gray Hulk. That line alone should be an issue's cover.
4:34 - perhaps Loki's greatest crime of all was inventing the dab...
Lmao
And that laugh 4:23
and for that he must serve with the trolls!
Combined with that effete hop
The artstyle of this show actually looks kinda charming in a way. Could be because they just traced the comics, which already looked visually good anyway.
I come in to see the history of Thor, and I see NAKED STAN LEE. I expect nothing less.
Excelsior indeed.
Right... lmao!!! He laid up on the sofa CHILLIN'!!! Got to love it!!!
Excelsior bitches🤣
Rip in peace Stan Hefner.
12:39-12:41 Quality parenting from the All-father.

That's exactly what World War I looked like to aliens
lol! bap bap

Lmbo. 😂
Ain't it amazing how the cast delivers Stan Lee's over the top dialog absolutely PERFECTLY?
@19:38 Thor says "Jane be brave, I will rescue you somehow!" as the villains were fleeing the scene with Jane in a taxi cab with Thor holding Mjolnir literally feet away is comedy gold 🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣👏👏👏👏👐 That's high comedy for sure! 😁
I watched these when that first came out in the sixties when I was about nine - what made them exciting, despite the virtually non exist a animation was the fact that they reproduced the images straight from the comics - that incredibly dynamic, energized Jack Kirby artwork.
I love that Thor explains his hammer trick with the same intonation than a street magician
"How can we defeat Thor by kidnapping a nurse?" Legit one of the funniest deliveries.
I don’t know why but 21:15 just broke me
THOR POG
Next time I step up in the club I shall proclaim "DO NOT CROWD FEMALES, IT IS TIME FOR MELODY!"
Woe unto anyone who interrupts your madrigal, sir.
Then Melody shows up. “Someone say my name?”
I want Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth to watch this and record their reaction, so badly.
Right? There needs to be a series where the MCU cast watches these old marvel cartoons lmao
I want a re-dub where they do the voices. Hearing Hiddleston imitate Skeletor while voicing Loki will be the best thing ever.
Tom: "Jesus Christ, what is this even."
Chris: "HUEHUEHUEHUEHUEHUE I KNOW, RIGHT."
@@Dorelaxen Excuse you? That's not Skeletor, it's Len Carlson.
I'm thinking more the Robot Chicken version of Skeletor. NYAAAAH!

I love these old Marvel cartoons. FF,Thor,The Avengers,Ironman and of course Spidey. These are so poorly done that they're funny to watch now. I loved them as a kid though. Classics!

10:09 The smoothest animation in the whole video
Just cut up a comic book and make.a.cartoon out of it.
Cut up some old comic books, and glue together a plotless story.
" Hulk, you must help us, or the world will be destroyed!,". " Gooood". What kind of answer is this?.
18:27 “Thor is momentarily stunned by Odin’s power blast.” Really? Cause it looks like he’s just posing while flashing his shiny pecks.
Bruh, I would too if I looked like that
As goofy and outdated as everything is, they absolutely NAILED Hercules!
Listening to an animated comic.book.
True but i feel like they make Hercules too uneven to fight Thor, atleast give him some weapons or make him a more skilled fighter then Thor. The mace is useless when Thor has a hammer that can do anything
Its not that outdated
I freaking love that face Thor makes at 27:08 also 10:49 Stupid sexy Odin !
Forget MCU Loki, THIS is clearly the sexy Loki.
"My two sons in combat.... without my consent."
I just love how it looked when Loki slid down the Bifrost. Just looked so campy, so gay, going down a rainbow like that.
Loki: Wheeeeee!
And I say heyyyyyy yeahhhh yeah yeah yeah
Do not crowd females , it's me, Hercules the STUD !!.
When he hit that sign and made it say bi he was forshadowing lol.
11:38
"Loki, you will serve with the trolls until I set you free.
Go thow treacherous one! /pol/ awaits!"
What if Richard Spencer is actually Loki in disguise?
8
So where would be Thor, then? /co/?
@@MinscFromBaldursGate92 Would not be surprised. He's done that kind of thing before. SPOILERS: Back in the day, Loki went by the name D. B. Cooper and pulled that stunt on an airplane after losing a bet with Thor. They never found the body because he got Bifrosted in mid-air.
Thor uses his hammer to create anti-matter particles
And blows up the planet because of how violently it reacts with normal matter.
depends on the amount of particles, don't forget e=mc^2
Do you know what that equation means? The energy produced by the collision of antimatter and normal matter is equal to the amount of mass of the two particles multiplied by the square of the speed of light.
In other words, even a milligram of antimatter would produce an incredible explosion of energy. In experiments, we're lucky if we can produce more than a couple of antimatter PARTICLES at one time. The amount Thor is putting out is totally enough to blow up the planet.
While also playing music from the Captain America series.
Thor can also shoot a powerful beam called God Blast.
In the comics, the Fantastic Four had access to the "Negative Zone" which was an antimatter universe, and the fact that objects from there would explode on contact with normal matter was a consistent plot point (although there were a lot of technobabble workarounds to that... this is 60s comics we're talking about after all). So it's not the source material's fault this time!
The thor stories in Journey into Mystery 83 to 89,93,96 were drawn by Kirby Issues,90 -92 , and 94-96,98-100, by such as Hartly, Sinnott, and Heck. Then kirby again from 101 to 177, and it's easy to see the styles change in these toons.
3:59 ''ancient sacred smoke ritual'''...sure...kkkkkkkkk
>In Olympus he may be a god, but on Earth he is a fool!
Lost it.
Savage.
Lol. I love the character, but he’s not exactly wrong.XD
1:57 "Some supernatural forces at work
I must help"
Such pathos, such strenght in his words.
This man looks like he had to go through so many times this "fight evil bullishit" that he simply lost his happiness for what he's doing.
He had to deal with Loki's bullshit for centuries and now he pays taxes
Did anyone know that guy who voiced Loki also voiced the green goblin in the 60's spider man?
The plot of Marvel's Hercules movie:
24:06. Hercules gets cast in self-titled Disney live-action remake movie.
24:22. Hercules rubs his good fortune in Thor's face, despite warnings about the pitfalls of show business by the Odinson.
24:54. Hercules ignores the fine print on his contract and signs.
25:10. Hercules realizes he turned his uncle into a free agent at the cost of him being a Disney minion.
Whatever happens, we NEED Party Boi Hercules in the MCU.
That....actually makes an AWESOME Hercules remake! Not only that it'll kill two birds with one stone!
@@chellismcelveen4402 Throw in guest appearances by Gilgamesh the Eternal and Korg for good measure.

Damn, these cartoons were terrible but for a young teen in the mid-80's hooked on Marvel Comics, they were must-see TV!
These cartoons were from the 60's. In the 80's we had He-Man and Spider-Man and his amazing friends.
@@juanfelixsoto You do know there's such a thing as re-runs, right? But thanks for being condescending!
Yes, I do. But remember, there were new Marvel shows at the time.
@@juanfelixsoto These aired on weekdays the summer of '84. Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends aired only on Saturday mornings, at least where i lived.
OMG !! They were very cool!!!!!
15:26 The original Kars
Eventually the absorbing man stopped thinking!
Awaken
Even Harald Jakaelson was defeated this way.
@johnny13r Absorbing Man Is saved by Loki later.
Except Kars was never tricked into becoming cocaine and sold to junkies by an enterprising crime boss.
I loved these cartoons as a kid, and I still do!
Jack "The King" Kirby is rightly a legend but some of his creations look well creepy😲
09:39 I didn't know Dr. Blake was such a smooth talker.

4:58 Was Jane deaf in this show ? How the Muspelheim didn't she notice there was a hulking tiger right behind her ready to devour her ?
She was hypnotized earlier.
10:49 - 11:22 I can't stop laughing at the absolute dissonance in Odin's reaction shots. He goes from being half-naked, to proclaiming he can not control love (as if it is the worst thing imaginable), to Jo-Jo posing for Loki, to then be in a purple robe proclaiming the idea "Strikes my fancy," only to end up half-naked again just to wave his sword and "poof" out of existence.
8:44 The floating Kirby heads are hilarious.
What we see here is pure magic, glittering in all the colours of Bifrost itself. 💕
7:15 oh my god what the hell is that supposed to be?? Jesus I'm gonna have nightmare tonight
Loki's connecting telepathically to a fortune teller and giving him super telekinesis to defeat Thor. See, in 60s, the best way of portraying telepathy still was "draw big head in background"
That Loki laugh 4:23! 😅
My dad brought me a bootleg DVD set of those old 60s Marvel Super Hero cartoons and it contained Thor, Captain America, and Sub Mariner. Thor (1966) was my favorite of the bunch. Why couldn't they get Hanna Barbera to animate those cartoons after Grantray Lawrence went bankrupt? I mean, they worked well with Fantastic Four !
Hanna-Barbera was already lined up to Fantastic Four before Grantray went bankrupt. The answer from what I can tell is that Marvel didn't want to spend too much money. They did some cheap live action stuff in the 70s, the 70s was incredibly censored what could and could not be shown as a kid's show so the marvels cartoons that did get shown were incredibly non-violent. Captain America would have issues with nazi imagery, Sub-Mariner worked best as an anti-hero or villain but mostly it's just that Marvel was pretty fixated on Spider-man.
I see. Despite those cartoons not exactly having the best animation, I really enjoy them. I can't wait for The Hulk one!
8:34 it's a pity the belt of strenght was used only 10 times in 50 years of comics.

"THE MARVEL SUPERHEROES" was officially released in TV syndication on September 4, 1966, and produced by Grantray-Lawrence Animation (Grant Simmons, Ray Patterson, and Robert L. Lawrence) which was located in Canada back then-- even Doug Wildey, the creator of Hanna-Barbera's "JONNY QUEST" worked on this series, and "THE MIGHTY THOR" was one of the series' more superior segments, with the voices of Chris Wiggins ("Dr. Don Blake/Thor") and Len Carlson as the voice of "Loki", both superb and superior voice talents in these living comic book cartoons, based on Jack Kirby's works and other noted Marvel artists at the time, while Canadian voice man, Bernard Cowan, who also voiced in Videocraft/Rankin Bass' "KING KONG" cartoon series, also in 1966 (animated by Toei Studios, Japan), who narrated "Thor" and all The Marvel Superheroes.
