What I do is always spray some w-40 or any other penetrating oil on all the jets, screws etc, let it sit for few minutes and then try removing them, makes is easier, and save those needles haha I learnt the hard way.
I find that on mine the jet that is on the top outside of carb body is always getting plugged. The engine surges at idle and no effect from changing the air screw until I clean that jet. As soon as I get one I am putting on an inline fuel filter.

I'd remove fuel tank and clean completely. Replace fuel lines and then add the filter. Also a cap full of seafoam for a couple tanks.
