    Dude, you break this down in a way no other video does. Each component is explained in multiple ways making it easily digestible and practicable. One thing that confused me for a bit since I'm not used to counting and reading sheet music so well yet was the hits where you do like crash/kick on 4 and then another on 1 but it's on the next bar (bar? Idk the term). I kept thinking that next crash/kick was part of the same set of notes on the screen but it's actually not it's on the next set. But not your fault! Just my inexperience. I got it eventually :)

    • @DG-Drums
      @DG-Drums  3 роки тому

      Hey man, thanks for the comment! Biggest advice I can give with counting, is practice counting eighth notes (1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +) and sixteenth notes (1e+a2e+a3e+a4e+a) along with everything you usually listen to. Generally speaking, the backbeat on the snare will line up with the 2 and 4.
      In time you'll start to see how all the notes are played fit into a bar. It's an incredibly valuable tool, one I'm very grateful for!

    Is it better to practice it super slow, till you get the count right? What is a good metronome number to start with for beginner to learn this groove around 40

    • @DG-Drums
      @DG-Drums  3 роки тому

      Absolutely! Pick a metronome number where you can get everything correct. If the number is super slow, you can add the eighth notes in between to help. You'll be amazed how quickly you'll increase the speed once you have a full understanding of the exercise at a slow tempo. Enjoy your practice :)

    do i learn differently than most? this has been extremely difficult for me to follow. the pace is fast moving through each segment and im really struggling with it. any tips on basically all of this? i can figure some stuff out by ear but man timing is really making me stuggle.

    • @DG-Drums
      @DG-Drums  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Brian, a couple of tips that might help:
      1) Bite-sized chucks: take one section or even one bar/phrase to work on and take your time on it. It may feel slow but this will help immensely with your ability to learn things in the future...not to mention that specific part.
      2) Count: try and count evenly and play the correct notes to the count. Then try counting with a click track without playing (this will help develop timing), then try putting it all together.
      3) Keep things relatively slow: there are various apps that can slow the music down, aiming for somewhere around 60-70% speed can really help the learning process.
      4) Find a teacher in your area! I think it's the best way to learn if you can find a good one, especially if you're supplementing it with various online resources.
      Be patient, embrace the struggle and good luck!

    • @DG-Drums
      @DG-Drums  3 роки тому

      Sadly all hi-hats and cymbals were not created equally. I'm assuming they'd be a different brand or model, plus what you usually hear in youtube videos is the sound of the kit after it has been mixed to sound better. Hope this helps.

    • @mditrich
      @mditrich 7 років тому

      What does it mean that "track wasn't recorded to click" ?

    • @DG-Drums
      @DG-Drums  7 років тому

      Sometimes when recording in a studio, the band doesn't use a click track (metronome) to keep a consistent tempo. There's pros and cons to this method like anything else, but one of the pros is to get a more natural/live feel where the musicians naturally (and only slightly) speed up and slow down as the song is played.
