There's nothing like being a beginner drummer and learning your first song. In this beginner drum lesson I break down what I consider to be one of the easiest songs on the drums, "Back In Black" by AC/DC. Do you have a site that lists your cymbal set up? Obviously Zildjian, but actual cymbals? Love your channel.
Yeah...that was pretty much my first song. That and "Seek and Destroy"...but no double pedal work with it.
WOW. I was Buster Brown just before I watched this, Phil's band before AC/DC. Should check them out.
Dude, at least tune your drums like Phil's kit. Your snare sounds awful. Nothing worse than teaching someone how to play ACDC songs without his signature drum sound.
I am taking up the drums the young age of 62. I have a long way to go but this lesson got me playing and having fun fast! Thanks!
I just started. I’m 61.
It's heartwarming to see you guys taking on the Journey 😁
I started last year at 52. One of the best decisions of my life!!
youtube.com/@Soleymoondrumming if you wanna check it out and follow me on my Journey, drummers unite! 🤘😆✌️
I just Started at 40 one of my dream to learn how to play drums! This song is my piece to be performed on my final drum session🤞😊🥁🤘
Took them up at 55.
AND am taking up the drums the young age of 63.......
I play guitar and bass for nearly 40 years now, done a lot of diverse styles of music. The older I become, the more I focus on these "simple" parts. If you can really nail them with attitude and consistency, the difficult parts will come effortlessly.
Really enjoying Stephen's approach.
People always say AC/DC SONGS are simple and easy to play. As a drummer, I get what they are saying, but Phil Rudd was/is a human metronome, and if you have trouble keeping time, these slower songs can be more difficult than playing a fast drum fill. At least this is IMO.
Yes!
100% this. If you want to be accurate fast, then get accurate slow first!
This song isn't actually easy to get right and play convincingly. It's easy to play 1 2 3 4 -1 2 3 4, but there's a couple of turnarounds that require more than the straight beat. AC/DC is famous for a reason. It's got a feel to it that's pretty specific and if it's not right people who can't play a lick will notice.
I always ad too much to AC / DC 😑
Even a lot of seasoned pros would have to pay attention while playing this thing. That groove at that tempo is a monster.
I love it. I'm an over 50 brand new drummer. I'm playing this at .75 speed. It's sound like it's 3am after a night on the tins and we've said come downstairs, I'll teach you some (very slurred) acadaca! Great fun.
I am completely new to drums and tour videos are so great. They are how ive learnt to play most of the songs i know so far
One of the best teachers on here!
Thanks Austin!
This is awesome! I feel Phil’s high hat feel (shoulder/tip -ish) really makes his songs unique, never-mind his pocket ! Thanks Stephen ❤️❤️
Really enjoying how you explain and walk through! Learning at age 44!
guitar player for 3o years...just took up the drums last week....thanks Stephen....subbed your channel of course
So I’m trying to learn with this vid, and I’m certainly making progress, so thank you! However, you tend to move through things really quickly and the transitions are hard to keep up with. In the future with your vids, short snippets of the sheet music on screen would really help me, and perhaps moving a little slower as this is a video meant for a brand new drummer (like myself)
For sure...feel free to pause the video as you work through it. Once you've mastered that thing, move on to the next section. But I would stop the video with each new section
@@StephenTaylorDrums that’s what I was doing, I suppose I just struggled to keep up even doing so. But as I said, I’m very new so maybes it’s just me. Seemed to work for everyone else so I’ll just keep at it. Thanks for all the great vids!!
I’m struggling with this too. It’s just too fast.
I am just at the start of my journey, and decided to learn this as a first song. I play the guitar too, even though I would not call myself adequate yet, and i had the same problem a lot of times, especially with rhythms at the edge of my comprehension (it gets better). Thankfully UA-cam gives us the opportunity to slow things down.
I mean the sound is shit at 50% speed, but it really helps to understand what is happening.
wow i played the riff on my guitar when you played and you have amazing timing!
Im glad to find someone who actually teaches instead of rushing the song and doing stick tricks 😂
I’ve been drumming for years and still enjoyed this because I can always use good advice
Thanks Tessa...glad you dug it!
@@StephenTaylorDrums keep changing the world with the best hobby I can possibly think of. (Aside from flying planes of course.)
Like the easy to understand explanations. I’ve just started playing the drums & my goal is to nail this as my first song so this is super helpful ❤
Can you teach us something about Stevie Wonder's song, Master Blaster? Your drum lessons are great! Thanks again!!!
Brilliant lesson I always say listen to the music the music tells you what drums to play
Couldn't agree more!
I just started learning to drum on electric drums on the 9th of september 2023, and i wanted to learn one of my favorite songs so im really thankful for this video 😁
I really appreciate this. I'm trying to learn this song. I have problems with these small fills tho. I'm used to counting everything in my head. You did speak out how to count it but I couldn't pick it up. I even played it on .25 speed haha. I know very little on reading sheet music.
best song to start, learning it rn
I'm new here and I love your channel. Thanks for the free lessons, music sheets and videos. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Singing the guitar part is actually how I learned how to play this song. Awesome tip!
It helps so much with songs like this one
Why not play along to the actual song
I've been trying to learn this song with different videos, but it's yours the one that helped me to understand clearly how it has to be played. Thank you very much!
Literally just gave up trying to learn freak on a leash 😂 I'll learn this first
Lol, yea, start a little easier
1:02 Gotta get this ditty down
This is so funny -- I bought a drum kit about two years ago, and have spent nearly all of that time simply practicing rudiments and working on fine motor skills (e.g. Moeller technique.) I'll make up simple beats and fills in my head to practice, but the thought of playing an entire song is still terrifying to me. Then my thoughts always go right back to this specific song... dut, dat! dut, dat! So easy!
If you haven't played a song all the way through, that's my challenge to you this week. Learn your first song. You're more than ready
My first song was Boulevard of broken dreams by Green Day. Remains to be one of my favorite songs of all time.
That was one of my sons first songs on drums too!
This is ez I’ve been playing drums for three years now so but I love you vids super cool 😎
Thanks!
🎼 Hi Stephen - I really enjoyed this video. I like the sound of your snare. I use a drum dial to tune is your batter tuned above 75?
Another fun song to add to practice‼️ Thanks Teach!! 🥁😎🤙🏼☮️💟
You bet
What do you do if you only have on crash? Crash then ride or double crash?
Double.
What are the four cymbals he uses?
my first song was Revolution 1 by The Beatles good song to start out with
Can you do a lesson on girls girls girls by motley crew the hi hat bit at the beginning confuses me
Please post a link for it please? I could help you but unsure of what you are having trouble with.
Just checked it out. It's 16th notes with accents.
Please learn accents to understand them and this hi-hat rhythm will be easily decoded.
@@joetroutt7425 thanks for everything have a great day 😀 😊

BACKGA BACKGA BUDAOW BODAW
this is how I sing bass parts too
What are the best drums to get?
First song I learned on the drums, back in March of 2022
By the end of 2022 (as of today, December 30th), I can play some Slipknot and some Metallica
Can you show me how to play Burn by Deep Purple?
No. Too hard
Just checking, the measure half way and at the end of the intro goes "1 & 2 e+a 3 e+a 4 e+a" - really struggling with the formation for some reason
Sometimes trying to count it can make it even harder. Just listen to it over and over again until it permeates your subconscious. Then once you're able to play it then learn to count it.
I am new learning and some parts of this song is a little difficult to do but I will nail it. Also, it’s so fucking hard to understand most of the words not because I am not a native English speaking, but because of the new vocabulary. It’s still hard to assimilate the name of the “body drum” even in my language 😅
I would love to watch him play to the actual song
Maybe I'll include that on the next one!
I’m confused on how to play the solo and chorus after the solo. At first he says to play the solo with a crash every third kick, but then later when he’s doing the transition to the chorus he’s playing a crash every kick
I’m playing drums on my vr and it’s hard to get the drum with the foot pedal cause I have to hit a separate drum on the side, I will learn eventually
Isn’t every AC/DC song an easy drum song to play? Seeems like as if every AC/DC song has exactly tha same drum beat (tha money beat).
He knows the role the drums play in that band for sure. Very much their sound. Meat and potatoes rock and roll
@@StephenTaylorDrums I agree.
Try playing Fire your guns.......or Whole lot of rosie.......or .....Riff Raff. Easy, but hard. :)
There's a few that are deceptively hard
@@LTDLimiTeD1995 What I meant is that tha money beat by itself is easy to learn, but obviously hard to master especially if one has short attention span. Obviously it becomes extremely hard to play when yu have to add every drummers individual fills and tricks to tha beat, and also play based on tha structure of every song. But as I said before most of his drum beats sounds similar bkuz they’re built on tha same foundation, “tha money beat”.
just spent two hours on the first two minutes, and still don't have it. It's so much harder than it looks, but I'll keep trying.
I bet The Ramones has some easier songs to learn than this =)
Love the Ramones!
Phil swings
We had cheaters that lit up led sn told ud when to start hsha
Back in black the easiest song? Uh, no. Highway to hell is.
Most of their catalogue actually lol. Love straight ahead rock and roll
Warriors of the world united is pretty easy to learn.
why not just say snare then kick and hi hat together / repeat 3 times then snare snare for first fill, cant see the snare during play.. too much ad lib singing. Great drummer not so great teacher rambling and going off on tangents. Probably suits many people.
I scrubbed thru 6 random times & this guy is just babbling. The song is easy when you never play.
What is easy for some is not easy for others. But that's why that scrub button is there. Skip away my friend!
Perhaps if u want to learn the drums... you should actually watch the video instead of scrubbing through it ... if you already think you know everything.. then why are u watching in the first place lol
