Very nicely done. I appreciate your meticulous approach with the tools; always wiping parts down and ensuring they're clean with a light film of oil. This is also good viewing for people who think because the Sherline machines have a small work envelope that they're not capable of useful work in steel or harder materials.
I just bought a 2" Precision Toolmaker's Vice from HardwareFactoryStore! I haven't had it on the Sherline mill yet, but I filed an eccentric rod in it on the desk, and I can already tell it's great. Such precision! And no more fumbling with that Sherline vice. I like your hold down clamps, I'll probably make something similar to use on my tooling plate. I ordered the vice thinking I would use it on a 10" Craftsman drill press I just bought (and I will!) but as it's just a little longer then the Sherline milling vice, I think it'll work just fine. Dimensions on your hold down clamps? Thanks for posting!
I had a worker lose the top of the tip of one finger, below the nail bed, because he was wiping away oil and chips from a part in a running mill with a shop towel. The cutter grabbed the towel and it was over that fast. Long hair, long sleeves, loose clothing and gloves are a no-no around rotating machinery.
Stephen Krupa Perhaps searching for the word" tool maker 's vise"will find a kind of mine. Here is my vise size. H:62mm(2.44") w:70mm(2.75") d:160mm(6.29"). Thanks for relpy and watching my video.
Hello I have the same Sherline milling machine as you (NexGen 5800) The vise that is shown in this video appears to be a Vertex brand item. I have looked for this vise on their website and could not find it listed. Could you look and see if there is a model number of this vice. Then I can contact them and see what they say.
I am rather please with it except that not many online has it to share mods and stuff for it. If you are getting one, go for the longer table and select the BT30 taper. If they've R8 available, I'll go for that. MT2 is just kind of weak for the use of face mill and such.

Please do not cover your machine in so many rags and gloves for simple machining? I have had to pull an apprentice out of a lathe after he got caught up by his loose jacket. If you are this afraid of getting dirty perhaps you should find something else to do.

KM6VV Marconett - I'm sure you bought a vise, as vices are something we develop on our own...
I made a lathe with my mill ... not a full one , but it's working . head stock is the same ...

It physically hurt me to watch him put WD-40 on that vice
Nice music.
Where do you get the aluminium table for the mill?
Thanks so much for your instructive videos. What is the size of the vise? And where can one purchase one?

What's that blue thing you used as layout dye? much quicker than using a sharpie.
It's permanent pen. You can buy it anywhere. disassemble then cut off edge of the carrier.
Wong how about your wabeco milling machine? I'm consider to my second milling machine wabeco

Loke-Yeow Wong thanks for your advice. i think that wabeco mill and lathe is most well made machine in small machine category
My next project is radius ball cutter for sherline lathe. i'm preparing for project tonight.

That's a VISE, not a VICE. Big difference!
😂👍
