Ashes to Ashes: Breaking the Smoking Cycle in Pakistan | Dr. Sajid Iqbal and Abbas Khan Kakakhel

  • In Pakistan, there are approximately 24 million active smokers. Alarmingly, a significant number of patients with cardiovascular and respiratory diseases are also active smokers. As a result, Pakistan ranks among the top 15 countries facing severe tobacco-related deaths and diseases. Current smoking control initiatives appear insufficient, highlighting the urgent need for more effective strategies. In this talk, the speaker will introduce a novel approach to controlling smoking prevalence and test its effectiveness.
    ● About the speaker:
    Dr. Sajid Iqbal holds a PhD in Health Sciences from Aga Khan University and currently serves as an Assistant Professor at Shifa College of Nursing, Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University. As a dedicated nurse educator, researcher, and administrator, Dr. Iqbal brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his role, contributing significantly to the advancement of nursing education and health sciences.
    ● About the moderator:
    Abbas Khan Kakakhel is a Nursing Lecturer at Shifa College of Nursing. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from LUMS, Karachi, and has seven years of clinical experience at Aga Khan University Hospital and Shifa International Hospital. In addition to his clinical work, Abbas has four years of academic experience, having previously taught at Rehman College of Nursing and currently at Shifa College of Nursing. His extensive background in both clinical and academic settings underscores his commitment to advancing nursing education and practice.
