@@mitchruns9667 a good place? oof every spot seemed to have some downside. If you're in a park cover the sprinklers closest to you with a cup and a heavy rock or a trash can or you'll get really wet. Careful with the eggs. Store-sold eggs usually have the coating that keeps eggs fresh washed off. If you get them direct from the farmer they can sit out for longer. 🧡
so true... if you buy eggs from the refrigerator then you MUST keep them refrigerated. In Australia they used to be on shelves but now they are in the fridge... if you leave them out of the fridge bacteria starts to grow after 2 hours and you can get salmonella. In the UK eggs are sold on shelves so they can be safely kept in the cupboard. Unfirtunately we cant be unrefrigerated eggs here anymore so they have to be kept in the fridge :(
Store bought eggs have been washed, removing the natural coating. That oily natural coating is what waterproofs the shell and keeps out (most of) the bacteria. Rubbing the shell of fresh eggs (ones that have not been sitting in the store's fridge too long) with vegetable oil (olive oil also works but imparts more taste to the egg) will seal it again. Then they should last several days without refrigeration. I never tried keeping them unrefrigerated on hikes for more than a couple of days, but I have read people claiming they kept them unrefrigerated for a week that way. Not sure I want to try it for that long.
True! In Europe (I live in the Netherlands) eggs aren't washed and do not have to be refrigerated at all and can be very safely eaten for two to four WEEKS.

Awesome video! I’ve rediscovered fruit cups and pudding cups recently and Can’t recommend them enough for a quick snack. The 99 cent store has practically everything on this list, definitely my first stop when shopping for food for a few days. I’ve also found that if you can plan a days food in the morning with ready made sandwiches, a salad and frozen vegetable stir fry and a canned meat for dinner, you can store everything in a small insulated lunch pack and the frozen veggies will keep your food cold for most of the day and thawed and ready to cook right when dinner rolls around. Make sure to ziplock the veggies because it can leak and make a mess.
If you are in a place with a lot of sun, you can put something you want heated on the dash or the back (wherever the sun is) Shout out to peanut butter and marshmallow fluff sandwiches - all ingredients are shelf stable! Also if you swirl peanut butter and syrup together until it’s consistent, and put that on bread, that’s another sandwich option (I had it as a kid - I only recently found out that peanut butter and syrup sandwiches are unusual. Me and my siblings had varying opinions on the ratio of peanut butter to syrup, so it may take a few tries to figure out yours.
Lol my family eats sardines! Even my kiddos! We eat skinless, boneless packed in olive oil. Its in a red tin I think King something? It’s really good. Worth a try. If you eat can tuna you definitely should try it.
Ahle; Sardines are very good for you! Fish oil! The only real problem is that a can of sardines is very expensive for the number of fish you actually get. Try the wild caught sardines packed in water. Opening the cans is a little messy if you're not careful about it, and you definitely don't want the smell of empty sardine cans in your van, so make sure you can dispose of them right away.
I wanna kms every day. Living in a van is exhausting, lonely depressing, etc. I wouldn't recommend it for everyone. Some people make it work and are happy, but some people have no choice. Like myself. anyone watching this for good reason, i hope yall stay safe and succeed to your full potential. I hope yall are happy where you're at and that you dont let life being you down, you make the most of it in every way.
Alternative to a stove, is lunchbox slow cookers like SabotHeat and HotLogic. They're super low energy, and can plug into 12v car port. Cooks in about 40 minutes, even meat.
I use "ice batterys" all the time. Take a water bottle with you when you go places with a freezer and "charge it up"(freeze it) then put it in your cooler. That way I can keep some stuff chilled and I have some cold water. Also it's fairly easy with some careful drilling and a can of great stuff to make a basic cheap cooler into a more efficient cooler like a yeti. It's not pretty but it works.
I use E.B.T and it allows you to purchase cold chicken from the day before in the deli. Of course I'd prefer hot but hey, gotta work with what ya got! New subscriber! This is only my second video but i love it so far! 😱😁
really enjoy your videos and useful tips. you are very cute and charming also. I have lived many years in a van and later a pickup truck and understand the allure of beautiful natural places. I also love sardines, water packed, with Dijon mustard. they are very nutritious, portable, and covenant, no fridge or stove need and really delicious , although it's good to wash up after eating .I would suggest getting 2 cans of bear spray, use 1 to practise with to become comfortable using. the 2nd one for piece of mind.
The sardine comments were so funny :) I will eat fish from a can but not sardines! Here is something that works for me, maybe not everyone. I spend long periods of time in a general geographical area so, I get a storage unit. I keep a cooler in there for things like bottled water, juice and small sealed items. Yes, the ice thing is a little messy but I save lots of money buying these items at Walmart instead of 7-11. Just juice alone was costing $2/day which is $60/month! The storage unit is $40 and I get to buy additional items that save lots of money.
My thoughts exactly on those things called sardines...I thought the exact same, who eats these things? Then, my friend came to visit and we went to the market and he bought SARDINES!!! I was shocked! When he opened them I had to look and I will say if the stench does not turn you off...the looks sure as hell should!
U can make ur own chocolate out of raw cacao, coconut oil and maple syrup and drizzle it over a pecan or walnut stuffed date and put in fridge until hardens. Omg so good. Tastes just like turtle chocolates
I just started trucking so I’m broke with no appliances in my truck yet but I’m so glad I found your video it was very helpful to me. I already thought of pb&j, granola bars, pop tarts, crackers, chips, and water but besides that I was stumped. Can’t believe I didn’t think of tuna before…
Refrigerated eggs must be left outside the Refrigerator no more than two hours. Otherwise it will sweat and moisture will facilitate the growth of bacteria. Those that are fresh and not washed nor refrigerated can last longer without refrigeration.
Also... random fact that only loosely pertains to this lol... any plant with a core actually lasts longer if stored at room temperature than in a fridge, and anything with a lot of acidity (Tomato sauce, pickled stuff...) can last for a while depending on what else is in it (Obviously not tomato-chicken parm lol)
Knowing where there are several locations for ice, microwaves, toilets, garbage/trash receptacles, showers, places to cool off/warm up and sleep without danger or hassle can help you plan central locations so you minimize driving/gas. Utilizing these places in a rotation so as to not be too obvious or too frequently on the premises will help you get what you need when you need it, without being accused of loitering. Always purchase something in return for the convenience, and never leave trash around. Don't discuss your situation with anyone, even if asked. You don't need to burn bridges behind you. Be polite, and if you get tossed out of a place, go without an argument. There are always options. If you can afford a small self-storage container that has air conditioning, get it. It will help you keep more space in your car, afford you extra space for things you need, and in the middle of a heat wave or snow storm, can provide an hour or two of relief while you retrieve some belongings or store more things. Learn to be stealthy and as invisible as you can be. Take good care of yourself.
@1:11 Love how you use your spoon to cut the sandwich. Yeah, that's a pretty minor thing. But good to remember in a pinch. (Like when on a hiking trail.) Thanks. Great video too, by the way. Very informative.
Sardines are the greatest! Especially plain- healthy fats, great protein source, non-perishable, so versatile on salads, breads, even alone. A healthy option!
Sardines are yummy actually. I like it better than tuna. I get sardines in olive oil, ALWAYS. Very flavorful and I put them in salads or over garbanzo beans and it makes a filling meal. I put a little white wine vinegar and Mrs. Dash or other seasoning on top. Maybe a dash of kosher salt too.
Put your cans in the window on hot days. Heat up your Breads and pastries with your defroster wrapped up properly on high get hot water at 7 ..11 r just get a 1 burner propane stove cheap
My food advice for anyone low on money or living a on the go life is to make fried rice. Friend rice is super versatile, simple, and easy. If you have at rice, egg, and soy sauce, you have the building blocks for a delicious meal. Pair it with veggies and you're done.
Marshall Hodge It'll keep you out of the hospital. It's not the holy grail of food, but it's reliably easy and nutritional. I'm half Japanese, so it's in my blood as well.
That's my girl!!! Smuckers Crunchy Peanut Butter is my favorite! My mother made peanut butter, bananna and mayonnaise (!) sandwiches, often mixing them into a paste to spread on the bread. I have to admit that my tastes were probably warped due to that from a young age. Back in the early to mid 1970s I had a 1965 VW (bus) Camper, and I did live in it for months, if not a year, at a time traveling around the Western States. It had an ice box. No, not a fridge, but an ICE box. It was about the size of the mini fridges you can buy today (maybe slightly smaller), and it had a Formica top surface that served as a kitchen counter with a drawer between the countertop and the ice box for utensils, etc. I bought half a BLOCK of ice (solid blocks were easily available then but not so sure about these days), which sat on a center shelf with a lip around it to keep melt water from running off inside the ice box, and a hose ran from a hole in the center of this tray/shelf out through the floor, emptying the melt water under the van. It was pretty well insulated, and if you didn't hold the door open too long, and it wasn't too hot outside (no A/C in those old vans), half a block of ice lasted about 2-1/2 days. These were "cool storage" (not "cold") shelves above and below the ice shelf plus in the door. It worked quite well. Since I was camping most of the time, I also had camp fires to cook over. I was hiking and camping away from the van a bit, too, so I ended up with a backpacking stove that used Coleman fuel (aka "white gas" - alcohol stoves were not popular then). That worked perfectly for boiling water for a quick cup of tea or coffee, as well as small meals. Larger meals required a campfire, as did the ambiance at night, but most days/nights I had ready to eat ("cold") foods, as suggested in the video. My German Shepherd and I lived in that VW camper quite comfortably, but one or two additional people and it became a bit cramped pretty quickly, unless you were a couple and enjoyed the closeness.
In the US eggs should be kept cold unless you can get unwashed eggs from someone who has chickens. Theres a protective membrane we wash off in the states with it storing them in a cool place they can keep for a month
So I like sardines. I would say the only reason most people don’t is for the smell and the idea of eating a whole fish. If you don’t mind those things it’s literally just like tuna but better tasting. Great video 👍😁

Oh, wow. Thanks for responding. :)
D Lish youre welcome. Do you live without any fridge too by any chance? lol
Filipino sardines from the brand, ligo, in tomato sauce or spicy. Mix in some chopped tomato and onion. Warm it up and eat with rice.
I've never tried sardines, but I love canned tuna and smoked clams and oysters are good.
If you are in a place with a lot of sun, you can put something you want heated on the dash or the back (wherever the sun is)
Shout out to peanut butter and marshmallow fluff sandwiches - all ingredients are shelf stable!
As a kid I ate peanut butter and honey sandwiches a lot. I’m thinking the honey might be a little healthier lol
your videos always make me crave adventure ... I really admire your spirit. stay safe, have fun, be happy ahle
Yes, I eat the sardines in mustard. Delicious and makes me healthy. (All those little bone!)
Ask the seafood dept in grocery for a couple small bags (Ralph's /Vons in the west) of ice for a small cooler since buying a 5 lb bag is stupid.
I grew up on sardines , they’re actually still good! It’s almost Nostalgic for me ! The ones with mustard and saltines lol
Lol my family eats sardines! Even my kiddos! We eat skinless, boneless packed in olive oil. Its in a red tin I think King something? It’s really good. Worth a try. If you eat can tuna you definitely should try it.
Definitely slo-moed that MRE/Backpacking meals throw. NICE!
I absolutly love sardines. Always first on my grocery list.😆
Said literally no one ever LOL
I thought I was the only one that cut sandwiches with a spoon until I saw you cut that PB nanner sandwich😂
Instant oatmeal + gas station hot water
and nutella is a great combo with peanut butter.
Sardines are beautiful 😍
really enjoy your videos and useful tips. you are very cute and charming also.
Hi
Hi Ahle We did the very same thing with out having to spend much we only spent 6 dollars a day for 2people
I’m planning a week long road trip and this helped me so much! Thank youuu🤍
on hot days, you can put your food in a container and just stick it on your dashboard for a few minutes and ta-dah! hot food B)
Dried dates and peanut butter = heaven
Pam's Pretty Pennies I hadn't thought of that wonderful combo. Thanks. I got to try that soon.
Sardines in tomatoes sauce is bomb
Omg yes lol
U can make ur own chocolate out of raw cacao, coconut oil and maple syrup and drizzle it over a pecan or walnut stuffed date and put in fridge until hardens. Omg so good. Tastes just like turtle chocolates
Peanut butter, honey & banana goodness. Mmmm
Bush's baked beans any flavor eat hot or cold straight from the can!
I don't have fridge because I only rented room. It's high price to rented a house here. Watching this really gives me ideas
Dry ice is always good to use in a cooler. Plus no mess.
Ahle is in da house ! Another great video, keep ‘em coming, safe travels 🖖
Lindt chocolate is food too! Hope your Independence Day was delightful, Ahle.
I eat sardines! 😊 All official MREs have heaters in them. Love your channel! 😊
Also... random fact that only loosely pertains to this lol... any plant with a core actually lasts longer if stored at room temperature than in a fridge, and anything with a lot of acidity (Tomato sauce, pickled stuff...) can last for a while depending on what else is in it (Obviously not tomato-chicken parm lol)
Cold canned bake beans and rice pudding. Yum. Spam is life 😂😂
I love sardines and Kipper snacks. Super healthy for you. Substitute them for tuna in a sandwich, stir fry, etc.
White peach is a superior fruit. The fruit of the gods if you ask me. Immortally good.🙊
Knowing where there are several locations for ice, microwaves, toilets, garbage/trash receptacles, showers, places to cool off/warm up and sleep without danger or hassle can help you plan central locations so you minimize driving/gas.
Nice video! I enjoyed how you cut the peanut butter and banana bread with the spoon:)
I went on a kick of eating tortilla smearing ranch dressing on it. Then adding a sardene and a heaping pile of baby salad greens.
Salami lasts long too. A lot of hikers mountain trekkers or motorcycle campers use it. Great videos Alex 😁
Just tried my first peanut butter and banana sandwich after watching this, not bad at all 👌🏼😊
I love peanut butter and bacon sandwiches. Get the already cooked bacon and bam! Doesn't need to be in fridge.
Elvis's favorite sandwich was a grilled peanut butter, bannana, and honey sandwich. A little messy but oh is good!
My German Shepherd and I lived in that VW camper quite comfortably, but one or two additional people and it became a bit cramped pretty quickly, unless you were a couple and enjoyed the closeness.
the jelly packets is a good idea
In the US eggs should be kept cold unless you can get unwashed eggs from someone who has chickens. Theres a protective membrane we wash off in the states with it storing them in a cool place they can keep for a month
When u start to miss the hot foods, can buy a 100w solar panel second hand for $120 and power a electric stove and fridge (second hand is $30 each).
So I like sardines. I would say the only reason most people don’t is for the smell and the idea of eating a whole fish. If you don’t mind those things it’s literally just like tuna but better tasting. Great video 👍😁
I freaking love this video, you definitely helped me out on food stuff. Do gotta subscribe now. 🤘🏼😁👍🏼👸🏼✌🏼
How did you shower when the gyms were closed during covid. My guess would be using taps you can find around towns and filling up water gallons for later.
