A Swedish torch is a log split into 3 or 4 chunks with the inside of each being shaved down a bunch then all tied back together with wire or rope it essentially looks just like the one this guy had minus having to find a rotting log
@@TheBearEssentialsNah you fucked up my dude. This is not a Swedish Torch, and you should post a correction videon on how to make one properly, as well as an apology for disgracing the Swedish people

Rocket stove & Swedish stove are 2 different things bud lol… that’s like me calling an Olympic size pool a ‘spa’ because it’s heated 😂 diff words mean different things FYI - I’m also pretty sure you don’t want to cook with moldy wood either…
For this style, (Rocket Stove) you can also use the ashes to make lye. Just tilt the semi-burned log and pour animal fat down the insides and the fat and ash will create a lye/fat mixture that you can set and make hard soap out of. Make sure to mix it and that the fat and log are not hot. Usually should drip cold liquid fat.
👍🏼 What's really great is you can find a dry, well seasoned chunk of elm that size! If you pound REALLY HARD on the heartwood (dark part at the center), it will pop through in one piece! Makes an excellent, l-o-n-g burning campfire! 👍🏼😎✌🏼
I saw a video where the guy took a small saw and cut 5-6 equal length branches - approx @ at 3-4” round x 14” long , plus a piece that was only about 6” high. He used some wire and stood the uprights around the short piece and held it together with a 2’ length of wire he Carrie’s in his pack. He packed the center with tinder and had a nice fire to place his pot on to cook.
Great example of proper cooking! using the open flames with protected food and only placing food directly on the grill when the flames die out. cooking on aluminum foil is not so good due to leeching but ig it's alright if done sparsely
whether or not it's a true Swedish torch it accomplishes the same thing. bushcraft is about making what's available work and with as little effort as possible.
Show me how to make the other kind of swiss touch. You know the one where the logs Is split three ways and wired together at the bottom with a little gaps between them.
I don't have the knowledge about this But after seeing some of these videos, it is having lots of different strategies... You utilize the strategy that works with what you find
Maybe classed as a rocket stove, as said not a swedish torch, 4 hours? The base will collapse pretty quickly, either light a normal fire or a dakota fire pit if you need concealment.
Or you could just use standing dead wood that’s been drying standing up and not the bug infested moldy mess that you find under the moss layer lol- B for effort- F for educational value … sorry brother
Why would you remove the rot? That's how you get it to start up easier. I mean I guess you core out the front a bit to make sure it burn downs but the rot will burn a lot quicker.

this seems like a good way to start a forest fire from the debris at the bottom and roots of trees burning.. I hear stealth fires can burn for weeks, months.
You could have used all of that wood you carved out of the middle to start your fire. Unless you pocketed that and brought it all back to camp with too?

If it's full of fungi or mold. Burn it well before you cook on it

you did not cook ribs on a camp fire. maybe you reheated some precooked ribs, but no way you cooked ribs on high direct heat.

When will dinner be ready? Not until I find a hollow log

Hahajajaja the log was heavy hahahahaha
Habitat destruction... standing dead is vital habitat. Just split a solid log like you're supposed to and you don't make some critter homeless.
Keep in mind while you're doing all that work so this won't last long because it's so dried out and old
Or, u could bring a stove, cook and be done eating long b4 the log stove ever gets going.
This doubles as a camp fire too though.
Tip: Don't do this in a park, you will be ticketed for destroying the ecosystem or removing artifacts or resources.
