I really like how they changed Lara to be modeled after Camilla in Rise. It makes it seem as if Lara got older and more experienced between the games, as if more time had passed instead of a couple of years. Something about the 2013 model just looks off after playing Rise and Shadow. Rise had such a huge jump in quality imo, everything about it is just perfect. I had such a blast playing the 2013 game that I remember the hype for Rise was insane. Especially since I'd see the tv commercial "legend within" all the time.

Maybe. But it still feels like she's older whereas it was supposed to be a direct sequel. Her cheeks are digged and I think it's one of the reason why she, at least to me, appears older.
Uh no, her facial animations and expressions in 2013 is so stiff. She looks far better in Rise, like a real person, in 2013 she looks like a painted-on doll
TeenH she was intentionally meant to look more aged due to physical and emotional tress. She suffered a fair amount of PTSD which was meant to be more of a focus point in the Rise. She looks older and run down, because she is. The story between the 2 games is that she hardly sleeps anymore, she needed heavy therapy sessions, just exhausted herself physically. That shit ages people drastically
That makes sense, I never thought of it that way. I agree about the facial expressions, the cut scenes are stellar in Rise. Still, when asked which face I prefer, I'd say 2013. But I understand the thought process behinf the change.

The LAU era looked the most “Lara-like”, to me, but the Turning Point Edition of 2013 was pretty gorgeous, too. I can’t stand the Survivor trilogy models, at all. 😕
Original Lara (2013) looks younger and cuter than the ROTB version in most parts. But due to lower polygon counts the face looks weird in some cutscenes. The ROTB version looks more older and more sexier. Even though sometimes the ROTB model looks less cuter, it actually looks much cuter when she's wearing hoodies and hats and stuff. And it has a unique personality that the original designs lacks. Can't choose one model over other tho. LOL.
TR2013 lara model was perfect to me (except maybe facial expressions due to the tech at this time), just my opinion, but the thing I regret the most is the fact they changed it in ROTTR and then again in SOTTR, she looks like a different actor in each games. It completely ruin the immersion to me, bcs I was used to the original TR2013 model, I replayed the game a lots, and then when ROTTR came out, I was like "Wtf it's not Lara !"
I just played the original now in 2022 and it looks great and runs on 144hz smoothly, apart for some tiling on the water textures the game looks amazing! I am now off to the sequels. I tried the game back in 2018 but my previous screen had really bad color banding due to it being 6bit TN. It is much better on my (not so new) samsung VA!
PS- I'm not some crazy feminist I think she looks better in Rise, it's more realistic and doesn't focus so much with her looks but more about how badass she really is which is what I like.
The game is more restricting than I thought it was going to be. "Linear" as you put it. Always following a single path. I really wanted to be able to climb up and down anywhere I wanted to get to where I needed to go. However I do appreciate how awesome a well planned out route can feel playing, especially those running cut scenes when she's trying to escape buildings collapsing and is falling and jumping everywhere.
Lara looks more of less the exact same between the 2013 game and Rise, but it seems like they decided to make her look slightly less attractive in Shadow lol don’t now why. Maybe because they wanted to emphasize how dark and mature this game is going to be for Lara.
SvobodovaEva well she still looks sexy, and she looked like a normal woman in both previous games as well, so what’s your point. All I’m saying is that in this game she looks drastically different from either previous ones that’s all
Hunter N - Her point is she's a woman and is offended by people thinking some girls are pretty and some aren't. Basically she lacks self esteem so trivial things upset her.
2013 story line was so good! And the game and visuals etc. What I think of rise of the tomb Raider it's a bit sometimes. Like I feel like her free roaming didn't get as much attention as it deserved. She looked better in 2013. Haven't finished the rise of the tomb Raider yet so can't say much of the story line
Footsteps and bow sound better in Rise of the Tomb Raider, while the explosion of the GL and the shotgun was better in Tomb Raider imo. I liked more Lara´s model in RoTR, the face expressions and the hair physics made her a lot more realistic and "alive" than before, BUT the environments were so weird during days in RoTR, just like you said in the video, Fire and flashlights at night were awesome, while the sunlight is kinda not working in some way.
playing TR 2013 in Win 10 the sounds lack sparkle. but in DX9 ie Win 7 the sounds are great and have that sparkle.. In Win 10 I've noticed Microsoft has increased the bass.. So sounds that should have sparkle and higher freq. Sound muted.
I couldnt care less about looks but playability and impact to the player. 2013 is outstandingly brutal and shocking gameplay... Rise is good too but I actually replayed 2013 twice for hardest difficulty and 100% completion. 2013 got the GOTY after all.
3:04 There is some deep snow in TR2013 near the end of the game, after the point of no return, but you won't be able to go there after completing the game, probably. It has a different effect.
Weird in the first one TR 13 when she fires an Arrow i hear an arrow irl being shot, but in ROTTR she shoots the arrow and welp the sound dosent sound like an arrow being shot, it sounds more like u fast balled a pebble at a wall. TR bow and arrow sounds are more realistic to me i guess xd
I feel like for example sound effects were made with some arcade idea for Tomb Raider 2013, they did not focus on it being insanely realistic. Otherwise of course quality in Rise is better, but 2013 story and feeling the game brings are a much more worth.
Older one seemed more realistic to me....new was good but there was something which was keeping it from being realistic and more animated. For eg: Like the way she kept her gun back in last part of the video.
I just finished playing Tomb Raider and am thinking of continuing the series with Rise . I thought that all visuals in TR were great . Seems that there is couple differences in Rise that will give it a lesser feeling . But i think i will love it either way . Thx for this review .
@@fdlarts7676 tr3 breasts were the same size as they were in the first 2. They just had more polygons and were rounded out instead of being pyramids. Tomb raider 4 on the otherhand... my God...
Lol dude same, I want to see sexy bad ass Lara Croft with the dual pistols, not this dark drama stuff. I always thought Lara Croft was kind of the ideal woman version of James Bond and Indiana Jones mixed together ya know
if you mean she's been dressed to look like she's wearing clothes more practical for her surroundings? Then I'm all for that.. Rather than the original 90's game where she wore a green tanktop and beige shorts regardless of the terrain and climate.
I think 2013 is the winner. It's more stylized and video game-like. Maybe because it had a smaller scope, they could focus on making the world more colorful and full of life. That's a surprise about the water downgrade, though
Not just you. The sound is clearer and louder on 2013. Guns reverberate better. I played on multiple systems and 4 different TVs. 2013 is VERY loud and clear on low volume settings; I have to turn up Rise twice as loud. The anti aliasing, for some unexplainable reason, is also better in 2013 and definitive version. Anti aliasing makes faces, textures etc look more clear and less rigid. People get really angry at me when I say 2013 has better visuals and audio in some ways. Maybe I am just insane? lol.
I kinda like 2013 Lara's face better if I'm being honest, I still have yet to play Rise though, I did my first play through on 2013 last month and really enjoyed it, I was surprised it ran ok on my non gaming acer laptop, and ran extra well after I bought a new monitor to use with my laptop that has free sync even though my laptop has integrated Intel HD 4000 it seemed to work
Literally everything was better about 2013 TR. The story, Lara's Model, the level design, the progression, the number and placement of collectibles. Even gameplay feels more balanced. The first time i started up Rise i was tired off by the face right away. The difference was easy to see. Especially her eyes because they look so dead and unnatural in Rise. I felt so uneasy whenever a cutscene came up and showed her face.
I hope in SOTTR they record sounds more accurately.. from opening crates with a crowbar to differnt gun sounds and the axe used on different surfaces and when the knife plunges into a body. annd the sound of bending metal when the axe is used to bend and break doors.. also when the axe is used on windows the glass should shatter.. how about Lara been able to pick up rocks and use them as tools / weapons..
There is one major advantage the first game has over Rise and that is it has Sam and I love Sam and I really hope she returns to the series as while I like Jonah I think Sam is more interesting, more three dimensional and has more development.
I think future Tomb Raider titles should focus on the tiny details in the game such as the water physics and all. Naughty Dog's Uncharted series also focuses on theses tiny details.
I like Rise more than Tomb in terms of graphics and gameplay but Absolutely prefer the 2013 Lara's face. This could be because they were trying to portray a more seasoned, mature woman in Rise, the effect is, she looks more masculine, not a good look, in my opinion.. 2013 was a deliberate portrayal of a newb. younger, more naive, less confident person... she is more appealing in this.
How to know lara croft is rich? Every time she goes on an adventure she changes her physical appearance with plastic surgery. EDIT: i dont think she looks "better" in 2013. I think people have grown attached to 2013 look since that is the only point of reference and changeling it in the next games is downright stupid. Its almost like if you changed Dario Naharis in Game of Thrones actor... Lol rise shotgun! Sounds like airsoft gun :D.
I didn't necessarily forget. I was going to compare the assault rifles and machine guns, but they're different between both games. And even more obnoxiously, the silencers, once equipped, can't be removed in Rise of the Tomb Raider. But I think these few examples are enough to get an idea of the sound quality between the two. Thanks for watching!
I’m the definitive version Lara looks younger and more innocent which I like, the only think I thing, quality wise, that was better about it was the water. Story wise, I think that rise is better but the villains are better in the original. Ana was selfish and couldn’t do anything for herself and Konstantin was terrifying in how he had no remorse for anything he does, but was naive which made him kinda pathetic. Mathias was cold and manipulative which made him more dangerous in my opinion. The character in rise I think have more depth to them, Jacob and Sofia care about their people more than themselves and stand out, even side quest characters like Nadia and Serefima have amazing stories. In definitive, you have characters like Whitman, Reyes, Grimm, and Alex. They are all really flat characters who only really strive for one thing and have one purpose. Alex is sorta redeemed with his sacrifice. Jonah, Sam, and Roth have personalities that we can connect too, and sadly they are the only ones.

TR2013 & ROTTR are both really great games, but I'm liking more Lara face model in TR2013.
2013 > Rise - Lara's Face (not speaking), Fire, Water, Weapon and environmental sound
Rise > 2013 - everything else
Story 2013 > Rise.
@@vinhbao9738 I haven't played rise 😬
fair assessment..
Tomb raider 2013 still the best.Lara's was just beautiful.
2013's Lara is the prettiest for sure.
When it comes to the character models, Lara has better textures in 2013. She's too smooth in Rise.
I love Tomb Raider I wish they did a Remaster of all of them
I just played the original now in 2022 and it looks great and runs on 144hz smoothly, apart for some tiling on the water textures the game looks amazing!
I am now off to the sequels.
I tried the game back in 2018 but my previous screen had really bad color banding due to it being 6bit TN.
It is much better on my (not so new) samsung VA!
PS- I'm not some crazy feminist
I think she looks better in Rise, it's more realistic and doesn't focus so much with her looks but more about how badass she really is which is what I like.
Rise of tomb raider is way better than shadow of tomb raider graphically 👍👍
Lara looks more of less the exact same between the 2013 game and Rise, but it seems like they decided to make her look slightly less attractive in Shadow lol don’t now why. Maybe because they wanted to emphasize how dark and mature this game is going to be for Lara.
Hunter N If you want sexy, just watch porn. She looks just fine in both. Like a normal, realistic woman would look in her situation.
Basically she lacks self esteem so trivial things upset her.
i think they try to make her look more like the actress from the upcoming movie
To be honest, she should have been disfigured games ago. She got messed up so bad in TR, she should be a walking scab.
2013 sounds are better
playing TR 2013 in Win 10 the sounds lack sparkle. but in DX9 ie Win 7 the sounds are great and have that sparkle.. In Win 10 I've noticed Microsoft has increased the bass.. So sounds that should have sparkle and higher freq. Sound muted.
@@LFC-Star Maybe playing under windows 7 compatibility may fix problem, I don't have the game but I may help you.
I don't think it has any, it's like 5 meters long patch of snow.
2013 Lara looks better. Her face and look was way better.
Whoa all the way from Tomb Raider 2013 to Shadow they look like completely different actors
Older one seemed more realistic to me....new was good but there was something which was keeping it from being realistic and more animated. For eg: Like the way she kept her gun back in last part of the video.
for me, the 2013 lara looks much better
She looked hotter in tomb raider 2013
This was an awesome direct comparison. You just earned a new subscriber + like
I just finished playing Tomb Raider and am thinking of continuing the series with Rise . I thought that all visuals in TR were great . Seems that there is couple differences in Rise that will give it a lesser feeling . But i think i will love it either way . Thx for this review .
When you get an ad for the new tomb raider game on this video 😂
I feel like Lara looks way better in Rise of Tomb Raider
For the sound comparison segment, I definitely think that the 2013 Tomb Raider game sounds much better…
Both games are 10/10 for me.
shadow was a serious step down though.
Doesn't matter which is better I bought both !!
I personally think she looks better in rise
Same. She seems more like a real human. Both are attractive, but I just feel she looks more like a real person that exists, in Rise.
@@reevohere I feel the exact same. The Rise face looks much more natural.
Same. Those preferring 2013 DE Lara must be into blow up dolls
The only thing I will say, Lara is becoming less sexier with each itteration, same with movies and I hate that.
I'd rather have this than Tomb Raider 3 any day. Her breasts are too big, kind of scary. Surprised she doesn't suffer from back pain.
@@fdlarts7676 tr3 breasts were the same size as they were in the first 2. They just had more polygons and were rounded out instead of being pyramids.
Tomb raider 4 on the otherhand... my God...
No yeah I meant Tomb Raider 4 haha. Those aren't breasts, they're airbags
She is look better in 2013. And everyone I know who aslo played both game said that they all like the look of Lara better in the 2013 game!
Sound is nice in 2013
And charcter design is also good
2013 face was the best
No way I find it creepy and unrealistic. The new one is way better.
tomb raider looks better in character design idk, but rise also looks like she is so clean idk why haha
Is it me or the sound is way better in the 2013 Tomb Raider 🤭
Not just you. The sound is clearer and louder on 2013. Guns reverberate better. I played on multiple systems and 4 different TVs. 2013 is VERY loud and clear on low volume settings; I have to turn up Rise twice as loud. The anti aliasing, for some unexplainable reason, is also better in 2013 and definitive version. Anti aliasing makes faces, textures etc look more clear and less rigid. People get really angry at me when I say 2013 has better visuals and audio in some ways. Maybe I am just insane? lol.
@@HomicidalDavid >antialiasing makes faces look more clear and less rigid
Wut bro, not true
I kinda like 2013 Lara's face better if I'm being honest, I still have yet to play Rise though, I did my first play through on 2013 last month and really enjoyed it, I was surprised it ran ok on my non gaming acer laptop, and ran extra well after I bought a new monitor to use with my laptop that has free sync even though my laptop has integrated Intel HD 4000 it seemed to work
Lara in rise of the tomb raider is attractive and looks realistic💞💞❤️
Literally everything was better about 2013 TR. The story, Lara's Model, the level design, the progression, the number and placement of collectibles. Even gameplay feels more balanced.
The first time i started up Rise i was tired off by the face right away. The difference was easy to see. Especially her eyes because they look so dead and unnatural in Rise. I felt so uneasy whenever a cutscene came up and showed her face.
I 100% agree with you (sorry to dug up your comment lol)
Am I the only Person who think that Lara look so much better in Rise of the tomb raider ?😅(I love both versions)
Ginerva Weasley yes she looked prettier in rottr
I liked the 1st game more I think
These 2 games were more fun than _Shadow of the Tomb Raider_ 🏹
Cap🧢
@@bihfy2199 how is that cap LMAOOO
@@bihfy2199 Rise and 2013 were far better than shadow
The sound in the first is better but everything else is better in the second.
2013 is a masterpiece, plus the lara model on the first one is the hottest and prettiest
Definitive one? Yuk!
There is one major advantage the first game has over Rise and that is it has Sam and I love Sam and I really hope she returns to the series as while I like Jonah I think Sam is more interesting, more three dimensional and has more development.
Nothing can beat Tomb Raider 2013
I think future Tomb Raider titles should focus on the tiny details in the game such as the water physics and all. Naughty Dog's Uncharted series also focuses on theses tiny details.
Both look great and I prefer her in rise, thought the 2013 late looked round faced a bit
Lol 24-25 is not a mature woman !!
Great video! Just finished Tomb Rider and there is snow simulation towards the end of the game
Agree, she looked better in 2013.
I personally think that when the grenades go off from the launcher on the rifle, it sounds alot better in 2013.
Lara looks the most "human" (natural) out of all 3 games.
Loved 2013 TR so much that i bought it 4 times. RotTR was good but not better for me.
People in the comments just talk about Lara's looks, not the actual environment in the game!
I prefer the graphics of 2013. adding More Graphics is not always better.
Both are great!
Nice video! Great comparison. You forgot to compare the god awful machine gun sound effect in Rise, that sounds like a pen clicking
Thanks for watching!
all the guns should've been recorded from actual guns.. and when the climbing axe hits stone and ice..
2013 lara looks the best
Rise of the tomb raider lara looks good
Shadow of the tomb raider lara looks meh !
I personally liked the 2013 model much more than the one in Rise. Rise kinda looked like she had Botox.
lara in the tomb raider 2013 is the best
I agree
They made Lara skinnier in Rise, that is definitely not good.
Tr 2013 looks amazing even to this day, rise was overall better graphics but laras face looked bit better in 2013
2013 more pretty
