@16:10 a rat floating in mid air while running around 😂 funny how he didn't even bother to mention all the bugs. Especially when I seen quite a few while watching his gameplay.
LOD distance really seems to be a bug. It looks a lot better when I'm playing. And my first impression starting the game was that when looking over the city or swinging/flying high, it looks much more detailed and varied in the distance than before.
Maybe. My first thought was that the downgrades allowed for faster loading. When you fast travel, switch Spider-Men, get thrown half-way across the map by the Sandman, etc, the game covers a huge distance with no loading screens or stutters.
when I pre ordered the game I realized I was not gonna see the wonders of how the game would look at 4k so I actually bought a monitor to play the game at 4k with hdr just so I could actually everything in all its glory. This video (and the video about the remaster and the original spiderman) makes me appreciate getting the higher end monitor and not just settling for my regular 1080p monitor.
They changed the anisotropy on the default suit to be more like the pre-release suit from the first game. The anisotropy made more sense on that pre-release suit because of the ridged texture pattern of the material. When they changed the pattern to hex shapes, the specular highlights bent in multiple directions, resulting in the more even lighting we saw in the release version of the default suit from the first game. I guess they just decided they preferred a silkier shine on top of the hex pattern this time around.
I think they both look amazing. But if I'm to be honest, I actually think the Remastered looks better. Maybe it's just because I'm on a phone, but the only real pro that sticks out with 2 is that it's lighting is far more natural.
The lighting in the remastered is superrrrr hit and miss. Looks great in interiors but if there’s sun anywhere, the whole game is darkened in a botched way
honestly same which sucks as they have downgraded buildings from far away which is what you'll mostly be seeing when traveling/swinging, like at 16:43 one of the best views in the last game looks empty and low quality now
I have been waiting for this games release for 5-6 years now and will be able to get the game on the 3rd of November, the hardest part is going to be not looking at gameplay footage of the game to not have any major spoilers and I really do hope that Spider-Man 2 wins game of the year
Realistically, it would probably be Baldur's Gate 3 but does it matter if it wins or not? I would be happy if it got nominated but it ain't gonna be GOTY I think.
@@kaushikkv8423 And the Sandman battle. THe Ps4 wouldn't be able to handle it. As well as the transition between characters. The harddrive of the Ps4 would explode.
I may be wrong but in Suit comparison I think its a minor detail, Spider man 1 original suit color is more vibrant than Spider man 2 meaning the color fades away over time, due to laundry and less texture due to lint damage fabric problems etc lol Peter needs a 2.0 suit also from a practical perspective just a theory
They ruined Mj for me she looks like Peters aunt and overall she looks less pretty the Modell of the first game was perfect for me. Kinda weird that western devs try their best these days to make women as ugly as possible
100% true, all of a sudden Western Studios are making women in video-games to be ugly af, while Eastern Studios are still portraying them as beautiful as ever, no wonder that there is a rise of popularity of eastern studios games, while western ones are slowly fading away since "certain" agenda is being pushed down our throats. They totally ruined MJ, just like you said, she was literally perfect in first game.
They wrecked MJ on purpose. It's the same thing we've seen with most games now. Give the women broad shoulders, wider jawlines, no makeup, and clothes that are much less revealing. It fits with he current narrative of making women in entertainment look like men. We've all see the memes and side by sides, so there's no need for debate. In the case of MJ, it's so jarring, that there's no way to deny the changes. Nor excuse them. Regardless of the character's age up. Nonetheless, the game does look good, but as Nick points out, there are weird compromises for the larger map. I don't need a larger map or more checklists. I need a game that's tighter and has meaningful questing. I long for the days of Fallout New Vegas or more recently The Witcher 3. Most who have gotten their hands on this game have noted that the new areas to explore don't add anything to it. And judging by the trade offs, it would seem to be the case. I'll still play the game for the experience, but as with most AAA games nowadays, bigger doesn't always mean better.
You compared Spider-Man, an open world action adventure game, to two RPGs. It’s like being annoyed that Assassin’s creed 3 doesn’t have as many quests as Skyrim.
Great side-by-side comparison, Nick, you covered almost everything. Insomniac did a fantastic job with Spider-Man 2, not only improving the general visuals (Ray Tracing in all modes) but also keeping the revisit of New York interesting thanks to culling the more boring aspects (like car chases or obligatory random encounters) and adding new features, both in combat but even more so in traversal. When you experience the full powered web suit for the first time it's almost breathtaking at which speed you rush across New York while the engine keeps up those FPS. Sure it costs a bit of detail in far off LOD, but thanks to the more detailed surrounding area on the other side of the Hudson the overall impression is a better one. So far I'm enjoying every moment of it despite having played the previous games twice on PS5 and later on PC. Don't forget to just walk around on ground level, the new overall density feels much more like a vivid metropolis!
Thet just reskinned the old assets and added rt on top of that, what fantastic job ? They literally almost did no job at all. 90 percent of props and from previous games.
Somthing totally random, but thank you for lending your voice lol. I had this video playing while I was out on loop and it kept my Corgi calm until I got back haha
This is such a gorgeous game. I absolutely love it. My only complaint is that it feels shorter than the first. It might be because the challenges aren't all that challenging this time around, and less mandatory collectibles. Also the new traversal is much faster!
Game feels longer for me, side content wasn't all that great. At least, the endings weren't. Mysteriums left more to be desired, all those Spider-Bots just for a cameo most have to look up to know who she is, etc.
@@octolockg5059 Well you can blame the Spider-Verse folks for that. Apparently she was supposed to have a noticeable role in the movie and they cut it.
2:57 not really a big fan of the lenses.. It looks plastic, they shoulda kept it how it was before. They also should've kept the red patterns around the suit but alr i’ll take it ig.
The parallax mapped rooms in the windows of the buildings have also been upgraded. They also have moving people in them! I'd love to know how they managed that.
Insomniac Games uses a system of ray-tracing fake rooms that are buried underground in the city. This is to make sure they’re nearby to be called when needed. Each fake room has a basic layout and then different variations on furniture and characters. When Spider-Man looks into a window, the game uses the ID of that window to randomly select one of the fake rooms to render. The game also casts rays back through the window to get a sense of the key light and shadows, which are then used to light the fake room. This system allows Insomniac to create realistic interior reflections, even for windows that are side-by-side. It also allows them to add details like animated ceiling fans and NPCs watching TV. This is pretty cool and very smart because it helps the game load faster. The fake rooms are located underground in the city to save performance. The game only needs to render the fake rooms once, and then it can use them for all of the windows in the city. The rooms are not as detailed as the game world, but they are still good enough to create convincing reflections.
I wonder if the remaster or original games had updates to get the visuals to where it is today. Could just mean the launch version of Spider-man 2 might get some as well to get it patched too like the first game to continue improving.
Imo and I think most of the people agree with me here... My only Major complain with this game is MJ's Face Model, First game's face was perfect, She looks like MJ's Elder Sister or Aunt instead of MJ now Imo. I'm ok with here open hair, but Face is just unsettling to me.

6:04 Miles aside from Mister Negative is probably the only character in this game that didn't go through a “drastic” change like all the other characters.
I kind of find it interesting how some put so much importance to shadows, i rarely stop and contemplate my or others shadow when i am playing a video game. I guess for objects it matters more.
8:10 what happened to the area on the other side of the bridge and where did that island come from? The main part seems to match pretty close but everything beyond is completely different.
The area on the other side of the bridge (Brooklyn) isn't playable/accessible in Spiderman 1, so they were able to use a rough/low quality model of the entire area that just needs to look okay from far. In Spiderman 2 they made a small part of it playable, but obviously not all of it. So they probably had to remove the non-playable areas to avoid having to add 'invisible' walls and so you can't see the low-quality models up close when crossing the water. It's the same reason why most open world maps are on islands (i.e. GTA 5)
It's also the reason why they didn't have all of Manhattan. They excluded the northern portion of Manhattan (everything North of Harlem) because had they included it, they would've had to included The Bronx and it would've been super awkward because the Bronx is closer than Brooklyn or Queens so they definitely would've had to put in those invisible walls.
Commenter misses the reason why SM1 received a remaster: It was released at the tail-end of the PS4's lifecycle and with the release of PS5 there was plenty of reason to revisit it for a dedicated PS5 version.
Why would it release a year or two down the line? The only reason why Spiderman 2018 was remastered was because a Ps5 came out. Maybe for the Pro they can do something? But I doubt it'll look that signficiantly better.
I personally feel like the game reached it's maximum graphical peak and performance and it just couldn't get any more better because well the original is already a damn beautifully looking game. So the whole "if its not broken, don't fix it" quote actually works in the game's favor cus insomniac probably focused on improving the things the original lacked and from what i am seeing so far that's what the game is trying to achieve and i have no problems with it. I mean,Hell the Yakuza games has been doing this for 7 games straight so this hardly bothers me in a slightest. What i do hope for this game when it eventually comes to PC is to see itself get a Path Based Ray Tracing. After seeing CP2077 maxed out with Path Tracing,It almost looks as if the game jumped a generation in terms of fidelity so imagine this game remastered and comes with that setting.

@@aepallenp I'm aware of that. Nick has done comparisons like that in the past. Like Call of Duty comparison to Battlefield or Quantum break against Control, which is very much the same type of comparison, different game but same developer.
@@antony9384you can dislike the game but to say it doesn’t have any improvements is beyond crazy.
This video is actually very in-depth compared to other videos just focusing on all the bugs and things that were removed.
I can‘t imagine the work you have to do for these videos. Godd Job!
when I pre ordered the game I realized I was not gonna see the wonders of how the game would look at 4k so I actually bought a monitor to play the game at 4k with hdr just so I could actually everything in all its glory.
35:13 Wow Spider-Man handles those car encounters a lot smarter now lol
Great video Nick, I was only kinda suprised that you forgot to mention the suit damage to each model... or did I just missed it ? Its possible. :DD
4:12 that dude on the ad be like : yo watcho looking at ?
I think they both look amazing. But if I'm to be honest, I actually think the Remastered looks better. Maybe it's just because I'm on a phone, but the only real pro that sticks out with 2 is that it's lighting is far more natural.
that is certainly why....the 2nd game is far superior looking in many ways
The lighting in the remastered is superrrrr hit and miss. Looks great in interiors but if there’s sun anywhere, the whole game is darkened in a botched way
honestly same which sucks as they have downgraded buildings from far away which is what you'll mostly be seeing when traveling/swinging, like at 16:43 one of the best views in the last game looks empty and low quality now
@@TrKz_m It doesn't really look empty. THe guy even said it.

I have been waiting for this games release for 5-6 years now and will be able to get the game on the 3rd of November, the hardest part is going to be not looking at gameplay footage of the game to not have any major spoilers and I really do hope that Spider-Man 2 wins game of the year
why not?
Why does it matter if it wins game of the year? How will that affect your enjoyment?
You've been waiting 5 or 6 years for a sequel that didn't exist?
@@compostsmurf5519it was obvious that this game was happening
Realistically, it would probably be Baldur's Gate 3 but does it matter if it wins or not? I would be happy if it got nominated but it ain't gonna be GOTY I think.
nice vid as always, sure to get over a million views considering the anticipation and interest on this one.
considering there is not that much difference in visuals, but they didn't release for ps4 which might be able to run.
the difference is mainly in the lighting and rendering i think. the ps4 wouldnt be able to handle all this, especially with the load times
@@minkisbalinkis maybe the main reason is the loading time
Lightning and raytracing, draw distance, density of npc and loadings. Can't run on PS4.
This is comparing the remaster, which absolutely would not be able to run on ps4
@@kaushikkv8423 And the Sandman battle. THe Ps4 wouldn't be able to handle it. As well as the transition between characters. The harddrive of the Ps4 would explode.

They look better imo. The old ones never sat right with me. It's like he's glazed over or something
@@BlueisNotaWarmColourmeh, I dont like the plastic look the new one gives off
@@Cosmicmorales but they are plastic
I may be wrong but in Suit comparison I think its a minor detail, Spider man 1 original suit color is more vibrant than Spider man 2 meaning the color fades away over time, due to laundry and less texture due to lint damage fabric problems etc lol Peter needs a 2.0 suit also from a practical perspective just a theory
They ruined Mj for me she looks like Peters aunt and overall she looks less pretty the Modell of the first game was perfect for me. Kinda weird that western devs try their best these days to make women as ugly as possible
I actually think the exact opposite, she looks much better with the long hair. She looked like a teacher before.
@@JustFun598Eastern games are more interested in large revealing chests and upskirt cameras....
@@JohannAlbrecht it’s not the hair tho they change her whole face it’s more stretched and squarer they also made the lips smaller and eyes darker

8:48 "As Time Square regularly seems to suffer major congestion that it never experienced before" I don't think you've been to NYC before.🤣
I have in spiderman remastered, which is what im specifically talking about here.
And time square in reality is closed off to cars isnt it?
Most Sony PS timed-exclusive games*
You compared Spider-Man, an open world action adventure game, to two RPGs. It’s like being annoyed that Assassin’s creed 3 doesn’t have as many quests as Skyrim.
So pumped you put this video out, thanks!
They also should've kept the red patterns around the suit but alr i’ll take it ig.
why do you have to say symbiote like "sim-bye-oat" instead of "sim-bee-oat"
good job bro, this is a well written and informative non spoiler direct comparison from the OG(that's you).
The parallax mapped rooms in the windows of the buildings have also been upgraded. They also have moving people in them! I'd love to know how they managed that.
df’s video gives a possible explanation
It is cool I guess, but it doesn't work realistically since it looks like there's apartments in every building, including police departments.

Fun fact: The water slides are straight from Sunset Overdrive (aka my favourite game of all time)
I wonder if the remaster or original games had updates to get the visuals to where it is today. Could just mean the launch version of Spider-man 2 might get some as well to get it patched too like the first game to continue improving.

what happened to the area on the other side of the bridge and where did that island come from?
They excluded the northern portion of Manhattan (everything North of Harlem) because had they included it, they would've had to included The Bronx and it would've been super awkward because the Bronx is closer than Brooklyn or Queens so they definitely would've had to put in those invisible walls.
this means that a spiderman 2 remastered will release in a year or two
ouch , right in the eye
No you idiot
Is this a joke I’m missing?
Commenter misses the reason why SM1 received a remaster: It was released at the tail-end of the PS4's lifecycle and with the release of PS5 there was plenty of reason to revisit it for a dedicated PS5 version.
Why would it release a year or two down the line? The only reason why Spiderman 2018 was remastered was because a Ps5 came out. Maybe for the Pro they can do something? But I doubt it'll look that signficiantly better.
Sick video man! 👍
I love this video. This is perfect pre-release hype material.

THIS IS THE ONE PERSON I WAS WAITING TO UPLOAD!!
Not gonna happen they won't make pc experience too much superior to ps5. Maybe after ps5 pro
