Hi Hollis and Nancy. I absolutely love your garden home and all the methods you guys teach us. Even more I entirely love the way you end your videos in a prayer of thanks. For without He who provides everything, we would have nothing.
Keep up the beautiful gifts. Love y'all.

Ive watch all of your container grown potato videos. Thank you, they are excellent. I guess I didn't state my question well - my bad - sorry. In your videos , you grow very successfully white potatoes in 5 gallon buckets and vining sweet potatoes in 20 gallon buckets. Will/can I grow sweet potatoes in 5 gallon buckets that I all ready own?
Sincerely
Fay
Do you put anything on the sweet potatoes as they grow?
Awwwwwww @ his comment " since she loves these, and I love her. We gonna grow them. Beautiful lovely couple.
Thank you, Blessings
I thought that was very sweet too💞
☺ warmed my heart too
Hope there are men watching and learn life lessons from these two, especially from Hollis. Go apply it w/your own wives, men.
I am lucky that my husband is the same way. He always puts me first. If you put them first, they will put you first too.
"I dont really care for these ..., but Nancy loves these so since I love her, and she loves these, that means we're gonna grow these" Spoken like a good hubby!!! Happy Wife, Happy Life.

There are a lot of husbands out there that just don't understand- "She loves theses potatoes, and I love her, so we grow these.." HAHA! You teach 'em a thing or two! So adorable!
+Briana Marshall
Happy wife, Happy life 😍😍😍
One of those lessons I would've liked to understand before 40. Now that the testosterone levels are tapering off learning to be more mello...
Absolutely true
I love your comment: "I don't really care for them . But since I love her, and she loves these, we are gonna grow these." I also love your videos and all you are able to do in the city....even though I do not have anywhere to grow anything (apt living).
If you have a balcony or patio you could grow a few items in containers 👍
There is so much love between Hollis and Nancy, and they love the Lord, and they give Him thanks for providing the produce. I just love watching them so much. I pray that God will continue to bless you as you serve the Lord. What a ministry!!!
Thank you for your kind words❤️❤️🐶
I like what u said about not really liking the chestnut taste of that potato but because your wife loves them and you love her...need I say more? Bless you both. Thanks😊
Same here! I grow radishes because hubby loves them...not me!
Hollis I know you just can't wait for Nancy to make your candy , God Bless

Six feet tall, minimum. *That's* the true measure of a man.
Watching y'all harvest the potatoes with God's beautiful dirt all over you brings back so many wonderful memories. I grew up on a farm and we raised cotton, corn, and tobacco for our main crops. We had huge produce crops. We also raised cows for milk and butter and meat. We had hogs and chickens. We sold eggs for a living and fried chicken anytime we wanted. We grew potatoes, sweet and white. Butterbeans, peas, tomatoes, squash, collards, cucumbers, peanuts, watermelon, cabbage, and lots more. We had a pecan orchard apples, pears, grapes, cumquats, etc. We went in the woods and picked wild plums, blackberries, huckleberries. What a life. Hard work but better eating than kings. It made believing in God so much easier because we saw all of His blessings and truly our cup overflowed. Thank you for these videos and God bless you both.
Couples like you restore my faith in humanity and hope for the world. Good people with good souls =) God bless you both and may He keep you both close to His heart.

You have blessed us on this day with your kind words. Thank you so much ❤️😇
Hollis and Nancy: Thank you so much for publishing these videos. I am just ready to plant sweet potatoes in pots and these videos are so helpful. My slips are much smaller and I'm using smaller containers, but I'm confident they'll be fine.
I also planted reg "taters" (Yukon Gold) in containers and they are doing great! I love that you honor God with each video..... and your dog is so cute. God bless!
Came for the education. Stayed and subscribed because these are nice people.
Thank you, welcome to the family!
i am so glad we found your sweet potato-videos. now I have the courage to plant them in South Africa. The two of you playing in the dirt harvesting made me giggle - like 2 kids in Grandpa's garden. Very enjoyable to watch. Stay blessed.
I love when she says "Have a blessed day" 😍
The sweetest part of watching the two of you harvesting the sweet potatoes is watching both of you playing in the dirt like two young kids
Cheers on another beautiful instructive video
👌
Couple goals. Heartwarming and beautiful to watch.
These are the kind of sweet potatoes we eat in Jamaica. They are white on the inside. I love it how you give thanks to God at the end of each video. It is he who sustains us.
I just love you two! Y'all are adorable, and now I'm going to start sweet potatoes. Thank you for simplifying something that seems complicated at first, and thank you for giving so many of us new confidence to try!
You can do this. have a blessed day!
Just what I love...playing in the dirt and getting goodies at the same time! I love sweet potatoes
I love the sound of the peepers and crickets and birds in the background.

I can tell Hollis love your 'tater candy' Nancy. You two are inspiring and uplifting.
New subscriber here...I love your channel! What a sweet couple with an amazing heart for the Lord. And such great knowledge you have to share with us gardening newbies. :) My son (turns 4 yrs old next week) said, "Can we go to their house," while I was watching your videos...LOL!
I have little ones, one of which is only 7 months old. So needless to say with pregnancy/ childbirth this year, I did not plant much of anything this season. But I am already preparing for next season. Sweet potatoes in containers are at the top of my list.

Thanks for watching! So glad you like our videos. Welcome to the family ❤️
Watching you two side by side hunting for treasures made me smile the whole time!
Just discovered you two as I have started "trying" to grow through container garden and been watching different videos from others and never quite get the whole part. You two are such a true blessing!! Appreciate the before, during and even after (harvest); explanation of what goes on, what to expect, not just in words, but also video and/or drawings, even the watering amount, how to make the natural pesticide, etc. I can tell that you do all of this so that people like me (black thumb) can fully understand the process. And very thankful that you are showing even in containers as our yard is filled with chipmunks, squirrels, bunnies so hope will yield some foods this way. Definitely subscribed! And love the Scripture at the end of each.
Look for links to parts 1,2,3 etc in the video introduction text. Also you can go to their home page and find series of information you have questions on. It helps to watch all the numbers in the series because they are quite detailed. :) happy growing! ps: I put hoops & tulle or insect netting on top to keep out bunnies (cats are the worst) on the top of all my container starts. It also helps keep bugs at bay. The hoops work on even grow bags, but you have to order bulk online 40-100+ to get reasonable prices or pay expensive prices on plastic ones.
What a blessing to get out there together. My wife has Parkinson's so she's unsteady nowadays. But we are certainly enjoying you both harvesting those sweeties. thanks for the post and God bless you both.
1st - Thank you for sharing your videos!!!
2nd - I found that getting slips is much easier by putting the potatoes in a combination of starter soil and perlite. I got slips much faster.
3rd - I haven't tried container growing up here in the North, but I just might now. =)
4th - Thank you!!!
A couple that GROWS together. Stays TOGETHER !!!!! Love it :)
+Ron Hart
I love that❤️❤️❤️❤️😆😆😆
Just found your wonderful channel and am subscribing... I live in a city also and always looking for ways to grow a few things. I'm getting older and it's harder to cultivate in the ground but am absolutely going to be trying my hand at growing potatoes in tubs this year. I also love that you go into the detail of how the plants grow under the ground and the different stages.. very informative. Thank you so very much and peace to you and your lovely homestead!
Thank you so much for watching!! Best of luck to you with your taters this year. You will love harvesting them. Thank you so much for subscribing. Welcome to the family 👩🏻🌾👨🌾🐶. Have a peaceful weekend ❤️
Greatest tutorial ever. What better demonstration can you get from seeing every step up to crawl on the ground to get the sweet potatoes. Thanks for the Step by step tutorial.
Glad it was helpful!
God Bless You Hollis and Nancy. I know this Sweet Potato Series is an older video, but your Urban Garrden is an inspiration. Hollis, you are a wonderful wonderful teacher. You taught me how to grow potatoes in containers with beautiful explaination of the "under the Earth" explanation and drawings. My family is grateful.
This year, we are adding Sweet Potatoes. I am looking forward to this. I am approaching 70 yrs old and have som mobility issues, so container gardening saves me from getting up and down so much and containers are easier for me to handle (my husband isn't so able).
You did your sweets (or Nancy's sweets) in a 20 gal tub and planted 3 slips in each container. For my first attempt, I have 10 slips, but only have 5 gal buckets and I might have a few 7 gallon grow bags. Will one slip per 5 gallon bucket be ok? Or is that too small? I already have these buckets but will have to figure a trellis.
I love the two of you. Thank you.
Very Sincerely,
Shalom168
Bellville, Ohio
For a trellis, you might use a premade wire grid used in concrete work. Drive a couple of metal fence posts in the ground, then use tie/baling wire to fasten a stick of 3/4" metal conduit to the posts. Then, tie the wire grid to those conduits and fence posts.
Awesome, very informative and I just love how you both are working together so lovingly. I love the sweet comment that Nancy loves these Korean sweet potatos and even tho He doesnt, he loves her so they grow them. Thats Love. Watched all three. Now Im a part of your you tube channel! Very impressed with glimpses of your garden, very neat and abundantly well cared for. So looking forward to learning more from your other videos. Its a better world with people like you sharing your knowledge and faith. Thank You and God Bless your harvests abundantly always.
Welcome to the family ❤️❤️❤️
I'm enjoying your videos, which are inspiring me in my first year of container-grown vegetables. I have one tub of soil in my greenhouse and stuck a rooted & sprouted white-fleshed red sweet potato just like yours in it. My brother gave it to me - I've never eaten any. I'm like you - I like the orange ones! Did you know that the oriental people eat the leaves of all kinds of sweet potatoes? My mother's Filipino neighbors buy the "ornamental" types and plant them for the leaves - they didn't know those same leafy greens were making taters underneath!
I love your presentation. So easy to understand. I am going to try this method. Thank you thank you thank you. Oh you guys are adorable. Keep smiling ☺️
Aweee!! I really admire you for thanking The LORD! May GOD bless you!
I loved that too!
I really appreciate Nancy's skill with the camera. Well done, you two! I think that I will give this a try.
You can root a few of those vines and keep them as a nice house plant all winter. That way, you don't have to deal with rooting sweet potatoes for slips. Just trim off some vine from your houseplant and root them in watet. Much easier. Oh' and there are hundreds of varieties available.
I planted my own slips this year after watching you. We harvested yesterday and got 6 lbs for 2 containers. We were very pleased. Our slips were planted a bit late, June in fact. I will start my slips earlier next year. We had no diseased or damaged ones. They were not huge but acceptable sizes for what we like...baked sweet potatoes. I will be ready for Jan. Oh, my original potato that I got my slips from was still growing slips yesterday. It had 3 smaller potatoes attached too. I had put it in the soil of another potted pepper just for the slips. It was fun to watch all season. Thanks!
+Cheryl Boyanowski
Very awesome!!! Congratulations on your sweet taters!! They are so fun to harvest! Very happy for you. We are looking forward to growing them next year too👍
"Since I love her, and she loves these...." = recipe for longtime happiness
The attention to detail you put in your videos is amazing. I am planning to have a small urban homestead and info here is valuable.

It is fun to harvest together but is difficult with recording. We use the tripod as much as we can👍
I am sooo proud of you both. You both work great to gather. Thank you for showing us your wonderful sweet potatoes. Now I/we all are waiting for Nancy's video on her sweet potatoes candy. God always provides for us. Thank you.
+Rosalie Kiff
It is fun to harvest together! Nancy says I can't have all the fun. 😍. Nancy has a video on the channel called Tater Candy. She used the little bitty taters in the video but you can do the same thing with sweet taters. Don't throw away those pencil thin taters, they are perfect for tater candy👍
Just watched all your potato videos. Very thorough. Thank you.
Hollis and Nancy I recently came across the video about your son I cried so hard my dog came and licked my 😭 tears. I’m sorry for your loss. I have been binge watching your videos now on the older ones for several months now. I’ve learned so much from you guys. Started my little garden back in July. God has blessed you guys so much. 😁❤️🙏

Thank you for such detailed videos. They are very inspiring. My goal this year is to grow everything and not rely on the grocery store.
Wonderful! Blessings
My wife and I discovered Korean sweet potatoes last year. We love them. I like to bake a nice size one til it's soft, cut it open, put it in a bowl, smash it down a bit and top it with 2 sunny side up eggs. Add some sea salt and pepper, it is soooooo good. Thx for sharing your hard work with us. Best regards, Bill
+Bill D
Man that sounds good!! I will try it❤️
Blessings to you guys
:) I have the same parrot shirt as Nancy. I bought mine in Anchorage, Alaska when I lived there. It is great to watch two loving Christians enjoying life.
Haha I'm also not a big fan of sweet potatoes but the woman I love loves them so we're going to grow us some sweet potatoes!

Awesome harvest guys! You two are so cute it just makes me smile. What was the specific name of the variety?

Thanks for watching and smiling😍😍😍. These are Korean Sweet Potatoes. I get them at our local Korean Grocery Store. They are called "Bam Goguma" which means Chestnut Sweet Potato. It is Nancy's favorite, I prefer the plain old orange ones. Nancy makes tater candy with the little bitty ones, melt in your mouth! Enjoy your weekend, we like y'alls channel too✌
Hollis & Nancy's Homestead how does nancy do the tater candies?
She has a video on how she does Tater candy for breakfast on our channel ❤️

your care and love for each other and God in all of your videos, makes your business grow and more successful
Beautiful couple! I love your channel!
Thank you❤️
Hollis and Nancy, in my search for info on how to grow sweet potatoes I am so grateful and delighted to have stumbled upon your youtube channel. Your loving, peaceful spirits come shining through. In addition to the wonderful information your video provides, it was also almost therapeutic viewing the two of you harvesting your potatoes. You're a lovely, inspiring couple. I will be following you here on youtube as well as on Facebook, and I'll be looking for that recipe for potato candy, too. May God continue to bless and prosper you!
Thank you so much for watching and subscribing! Welcome to the family ❤️❤️🐶. There is a video on the Tater Candy on our channel. It is one of my favorite breakfast treats 👍. Have a peaceful day
gosh us filipinos would make a salad out of the leaves, don't throw them out. Leaves can be boiled for a couple minutes then chopped, add onion slices, garlic, ginger, vinegar, soy sauce, tomatoes, mango slices and chilis, and voila - what a yummy salad.
That sounds delish! It's great to use as much of a plant as you can.
The comment about loving Nancy was awesome!!! Love it !!! 😘😘😘
+Missy
❤️❤️❤️
Loved this series! I have a quick question as im a newbie - what can i do with the soil of the harvest with the roots after the harvest? can i reuse it to grow more sweet potatoes? would really appreciate your help. thank you! God bless
Growing sweet potatoes for the first time this year. In grow bags. I have watched all of you container potato videos at least 3 times! Thanks for sharing! :)
+Jim Gillespie
Best of luck to you with your sweet potatoes! 🥔🥔🥔🥔🥔🥔
I was absolutely floored at how adorable you two are and your love for God makes this newbie eager to learn all I can about growing my own food. I, like you sir enjoyed the orange sweet potatoe, but after having the white I feel in love! We also eat the greens from the potatoes so this was a complete win win for us! Can't wait to see what else you do. May God continues to bless you and your family!
God bless you! Welcome to the family ❤️❤️🐶
Hey Hollis and Nancy. So I just harvested my first sweet potato crop after using your instructions and I am so happy. I got 10 lbs of potato from 2 pots with 3 slips each. Question: Should i wash them off right away? Do I need to let them sit for a while? They seem a bit moist. Also, a few of them are a little green on the ends; is that still edible? Thanks Eric
Congratulations. I can't wait to try this next year. God bless.
Oh my gosh... I absolutely love your garden set up. All the time and work you put into establishing a system, not just the planting but all your builds. TERRIFIC JOB!!!
+kittyhawk1027
Thank you so much. We will be moving at the end of the summer to a little more rural homestead. I have designed a new garden complex so we can hit the ground running. It will take a lot of work to get it up and running but we are excited to get started. We will be releasing update videos along the way😍😍🐶
Oh you are a smart man grow what the wife loves 😻😻😻🍠
"since I love her and she loves these..." so sweet
Before I plant any veggies, I always watch you programs on those veggies to learn how to go about it which I have found very useful. Thanks for that. But I want to ask, do you fertilize your veggies as you go along or the first you do is the only one that stays till harvest? I await your response. J
It depends on what I am growing. Often times my initial fertilizer lasts the life of the plant. I am showing fertilization more on our more recent videos.
WOW! Hollins and Nancy, your videos never disappoint.
Do you recycle the dirt from the pot with all the roots in it? I would think possibly to put into compost?
I am now addicted to you guys. Loved this!
I grew my first batch of sweet potatoes last summer. Pretty plant and man did I get a mountain of potatoes. Mine were way to big and grew around pockets of dirt. I did have a few normal shaped ones. It was a pain to get them cut up but boy were they delicious. They were some strange breed I got off eBay. I must of missed some because the plants growing everywhere.
wow i like it. i am pastor marlon cutamora i am pastoring in the small island in the phils. i really encourage about container gardening,
God bless you Pastor. Have a peaceful weekend
The leaves of sweet potatoes can be eaten. They are very nutricious green leafy vegetables. Steam the leaves and young stalk for 2-4 mins cook. Drain from water, dress them with lemon and fish sauce. They taste so good and combine this with your fried fish meal and rice👍😉😋
I bet you are a filipino. I tasted the kamote when I visited the Philippines :)
Thank you for your informative videos. I live in southern Canada, and I'm not sure if we have a warm enough climate. I'm going to study up. I love how you give credit where credit i due, to our Lord. Bless you both.
Lifes lessons... grow what your spouse likes...
It makes me happy to see her enjoying her favorite veggies ❤️
You are Blessed.!!! Bountiful harvest. Thank you. Blessings, Laura M
I am still waiting for my sweet potato slips, kinda stressing out about it as we only have a short growing season!
안녕하세요,Nancy! I wanted to grow the sweet potatoes, and I thank you very much for showing me and my hubby how to do it. So smart!
I’m not religious at all and don’t believe in a “god” perse, but they way they thank the lord and feel great full for his help and blessings... just makes me respect that. They aren’t invasive and bragging about their god, they are just pure grateful.
Thank you❤️
that i would concider an confession. faith is a gift from God. you can pray for more about that, its in the bible
with God anything is possible, said Jesus
@@jesuschristislordoflordsan427 you're supposed to pray to Jesus that was a main point of the new testament. Read it again
Y’all are amazing, I appreciate this and all the videos you make and share. I planted a few Sweet potatoes starters in buckets on Easter and had to put a couple bamboo sticks in to hold the vines up, and hoping soon we can see what they have become. Loving the new Florida homestead updates
If you prune the vines back some will the put more energy in the root system?
No. You need the leaves on the vines for photosynthesis
5:40 you're so sweet. I love it, I also live in fl wish we were neighbors lol. God has truly blessed you with the gift of gardening. Thank you for all these helpful tutorials
What do u do with the dirt after u dump it out on to the black plastic ? Can you reused next year?
was wondering the same thing.....lots of roots in it and wonder if just put on compost
I bought some sweet potatoes in the market on Saturday, I put 3 of them in water I saw roots this morning. I'm so excited. love your videos.

Very exciting!! Such a fun vegetable to grow! Best of luck to you on your sweet taters😍
