@@martinheinrich2666 I think Ferrari would let you tune and make more horsepower to the car as long as it doesn't mess with the value and appearance. But people still be taking the engines out of their Ferraris and selling em

Naturally aspirated running on petrol? Only difference the engine has straight from Ferrari is that it probably sits in the higher revs longer which isn’t much of a problem that maintenance can’t solve
I wonder if de-stroking a 4.8L LS would still meet the requirements. A de-stroked LS with head & cam work at 10k RPM would sound amazing. I bet you could get just as much power out of it too.
I used to race, and build racing engines for myself and others. I used to study the rule book very very closely, not for what it said, but for what it did NOT say! That's where the advantages come from!
Didn't know that a company named ferrari california existed, always under the impression it was a model made by the italians. Looking forward to hearing about the cease and desist letter from italy to california.
There will be no letter buying a second hand car in the us means you can literally do anything you want to it except change the name to something that will have a negative impact on the company
Plus the weight of the engine on the front wheels is gonna give the car really good traction that’s really gonna help on a dirt track especially while drifting
What about the bmw s65 engine it’s a 4.0 liter v8 that could be punched out another half a liter give you the same hp but cheaper and easier to get parts when needed
Yeah I think cost and maintenance would kill it in a rally scenario. You can buy them at least older f1 engines just really not a good idea for longevity sake
He’s an instructor at the Dirt Fish rally school in WA. Super chill guy met at Olympus rally twice and this car is such a sensory reset because your brain wants to hear a flat four.
When the two engines are compared and you add the turbos and the intercoolers and everything necessary for the stock turbo flat 4 the weight is almost identical. So no. It isn't a heavy nose at all
this seems to be a bit misleading... He didn't really gain power from the swap. He found out that he could use an NA v8 instead of a turbo inline 4. This would give him an advantage because v8 have very flat powerbands whereas turbo i4s dont have much power until they hit boost. So the car is much more predictable and easier to control in turns.
he who has the most money wins, it seems like it would be more fun if all the cars were equal and the race was decided by driver skill and not who has the deepest pockets
Honest question: does such an engine swap like this not completely imbalance the car? won’t there be a significant difference in how the car handles etc and how do they counteract this if needed?
I swear the only reason half these rules are rules in racing is to keep it only in the hands of people born into money because those rules make it next to impossible to build a car to race unless you have a professional garage backing you
The real question is how’s the weight, balance, and polar moment of inertia with a v8 sitting that far forward and high up when compared to a flat 6 that sits lower and further back… this would be like the difference in handling characteristics between a Scion FRS and an Audi RS4. Could be amazing… could be unruly.
454 is hilariously small amount of HP during 80 in group b all big boys had around this amount, and audi and lancia had even more(550 and 600 respectavily) in 80s
