Pilots are trained to handle just about any emergency they might face. But what happens when they encounter a problem which isn’t fully covered in their manuals? High above the Spanish countryside, this is exactly what happened the crew of a Vueling Airbus A320 on its way from Barcelona to Seville, when a serious problem emerged with the nose wheel.
The pilots would need to rely on their experience and training, to make quick decisions which would impact the safety of all 157 people on board.
This is a story about how people behave under pressure, and it’s a story about the enduring importance of problem-solving, in an age of increasing automation. This is the story of Vueling flight 2220.

I found this topic to be incredibly interesting and thought-provoking. It sparked my curiosity and prompted me to think more deeply about the subject matter.
@ shush bro nobody asked for your opinion
You missed a "to" in your video title

Please don't ever change your format! You have a distinct voice as a creator. I love how you focus on the story (for which you have an incredible talent to lay out) and we learn about technical details and procedures along the way. You never make it about you, or your opinion. That's what makes you stand out and be remarkable. No fluff, nothing unnecessary: powerful storytelling and focus on the case at hand. Can't praise you enough
Thank you for the kind words. That's very much what I'm going for with this channel 🙏
This is so true
@@GreenDotAviationcan I please get a reply
@@GreenDotAviation he is absolutely correct, the format is on point.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. 🫡
nowadays I'm waiting for your videos like I wait for A new Film release. The Narration quality is top notch.
Glad you like them!
Same especially the music 😊
no you're not
It's like that really awesome new movie you just can't wait for it to come out!!:)
@@T.E.S.S.do you need someone to call emergency services for you? It seems like something is radically wrong
The expertise of the pilots is impressive. All their decisions were aligned as the plane landed successfully, although, as you put it, "with minor inconvenience of time increase." The calmness, composure, and excellent CRM exhibited by the piloting team are worthy of commendation. This incident is an excellent example of how an emergency can be handled professionally and without chaos.
I would say these pilots handled it much better than the publicized jet blue incident. The wheel rim wasn't even damaged, that's impressive control keeping weight off the wheel, and very smart to use max reverse thrust, rather than shutting off the engines and relying on brakes alone.
Done by the book, calmly and professionally, as pilots should. The best outcome was achieved by the best crew management of the situation. Good on 'em!
The transition between that simulation and the real pic was sick!

Can I just say, as a long-time viewer of the channel. How impressive the sheer quality of these videos are now? - Just looking back at the difference between videos from one/two years ago (still amazing quality) to now is just insane.
Please please keep up the amazing work, the format is just incredible. Much love
The production quality just keeps getting better and better
Always good when the ending does not involve tragedy!
I caught the Green Dot emblem on the soda can, about 10 mins in-very clever!
Hah! Nice one
almost commented myself on that, very nice ^_^

Reminds me of an Australian show about a notorious women’s prison, Wentworth. They refer to drugs as gear on the show, and my favorite quotes from it are variations of guards asking inmates “who’s bringin’ in gear????”

Really cool video! I loved the moment when the plane flew over the runway and the 3D rendering software switched to a real photo, with the same camera position! Thank you for this high quality content :D
This was masterfully handled by the pilots. Having the Jet Blue flight as a reference certainly helped!
OK. This one was NERVE-WRECKING, thanks to the terrific storytelling, visuals with the best realism of its kind (felt as close as I've ever seen to a live-on-camera docu), brilliant cinematography and editing. BIG, big thanks, Emmet!
Glad you liked it!
@@oboealto he really does a great job making you feel like you're actually in the plane.
I have a recommendation for a video, it was another vueling aircraft "i think" it was over Moscow in 1991 an Airbus plane made a series of absolutely insane dives and rolls literally 1/200 feat above the runway it is a complete miracle they didn't crash, look into it its insane. Love the channel.
He should create google forms to give recommendations and tell you when yours is going to be made
Love seeing your channel evolve, the graphics, the narration, the storytelling, even the updated intro, just makes me happy seeing you evolve more and more! I hope you’re happy with everything you’ve accomplished so far, always look forward to seeing future videos!!
Really appreciate the kind words 🙏 I'm very happy with the direction the channel is going, and I'm going to keep at it ✈️
@@GreenDotAviation And believe me, you might need to settle in on Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, it will be more than enough to deliver an astounding content. You might need to enlist the help of add-ons though... But you already know. Anyway, keep up the good work
One of the best content creators OF ALL TIME!!! Thank you
I'm gonna be honest with you, your channel may be one of the best ones on youtube. The sheer quality and professionalism in these videos put genuine documentaries to shame. Thank you!
High praise! Thank you 🙏
This might be my favorite video of yours now. The subtle suspense you built up highlighting the single error. The story itself. Ughhh my heart was pounding in the final few minutes in anticipation of what would happen
Glad you enjoyed it! Not the usual type of incident I cover but there is a lot to learn about here
@@GreenDotAviation 3 hours later and you still havent fixed the mistake in the title, you enjoying the bonus engagement?
@@matttzzz2It's probably not that deep ...
Hello Emmet, I just wanted to thank you for all this amazing content you been doing for the last years. I started my journey to become a pilot this year and I’m actually able to understand and correlate better the topics that sometimes you talk about on your videos with the subjects I’m learning right now. I hope the best for you, keep up!
Delighted to hear that, keep it up 🫡
0:09 is when he says "this is exactly what happened the crew" forever cementing the "what happened the gear" original title into history. It may be a linguistic nuance that was fixed later. Or an error on the writer and the voice actor read it and they kept it. But it's right there and it's one of many reasons I love this channel
Excellent, as per! Full marks to the flight crew, ATC, Emergency responders and the SAFETY OFFFICERS (cabin crew - who seldom - if ever - get the credit/recognition they all deserve).
Green Dot Aviation is the only channel where I Like first, then watch.
hmm I wonder what happened the gear
The title worked :o

My thoughts exactly! As a repeat offender of typos and complete word omissions, all I can say is “this one’s not on ME!”
what happened the GEAR💜 (i love you green dot aviation)
This week has sadly provided a few videos worth of incidents
we are going to have to wait for people to figure out what actually happened
All the little graphics editing and sound direction was incredible in this video! Really brings the procution value and viewer enjoyment up!
Glad you enjoyed it! We’re always working to improve this aspect of the videos
You can be proud of your fabulous productions. This is insanely well made! Please maintain your current heading and contact approach tower when next video captures the ILS and runway in sight.
Commenting to mirror a sentiment I just saw already: I await your videos like they're films. Each one better than the prior - such incredible storytelling and presentation. Thank you!
Thanks!
I keep on watching your older videos as I've watched every video you've made and I enjoy the information you provide about aviation in general.
A few minutes ago, I was watching your Crossair Flight 3597 video, and afterwards I saw your new video and tapped on it instantly!!
The comparison between your sim plane and real photo - amazing. Such attention to detail!
Glad you liked it!
"... some work on the plane when it landed ..." gotta smile at the video narration's way of putting understated wit and humor into the play! So much better than histrionics in other videos. Definitely one of my favorite channels.
The image of the front gear perfectly on centerline really shows how great those pilots are
Mr. Green Dot: That was a *fabulous* video. Your technicians placing an overlay of the 'Actual Image' at the exact moment in your narration was First Class. Just a 'first class' channel to which I have been subscribed for quite some time. Great job.

Eddie Swada, an Islander pilot I used to work with, lost the nose gear while landing on an ice runway. The nose gear had dropped into a pothole that was hidden in the snow and it sheared it off. Eddie and a mechanic unloaded the plane and put the busted nose gear in the back along with the mechanic and anything else they could find. They took off with the nose scraping along the ice until they had enough speed to rotate and flew back to Thompson. Eddie taxied with enough speed to make it back to the hanger where he let the nose drop. “See you in two weeks” he said as he left for Vegas. Two weeks later the Islander was repaired and Eddie was back at work. It was a crazy place to work but the memories are fantastic.
Was waiting for a new video ❤

@TheRealNTSBlol I can agree with that but also you have @mentourpilot who also is amazing
@@TheRealNTSBlol @MentourPilot is also pretty good.
12:20 - 😂 I had just typed out a comment about that flight and was about to post it. I saw it live on TV and I was overjoyed after the plane cmae to a stop and the sparks stopped flying.
New GreenDot? Today is starting out great!
The crew was amazing in my opinion.
I agree that the foam would have endangered them more.
That was a really good video! The explanation was great, and I'm impressed with the detail in the simulation graphics. I've flown on a few of Vueling's A320s, and I can say the plane's interior is spot on, from the seat covers to the style of the security pamphlets-it's exactly what Vueling uses. Plus, it was a nice touch to include the Iberia logo on the stairs since Iberia is the handling company for Vueling flights in BCN.
Every night I watch your videos to help me sleep (I promise that’s a compliment lol). They are just so soothing for some reason but also so interesting. You’re insanely good at what you do
Have you ever thought about making your videos into podcasts, on like Spotify or something? Would be so cool to listen to your videos whilst on a long drive or something:)

I just saw that a brand new video is out, and I can’t wait to dive in! I really enjoy the creativity and insights you bring to your content-it always makes for such an enjoyable experience.
I live in Sevillla and I did not know about this incident, and I've loved to see the city on the video (also that there where no casualities and injuries).
I really enhjoy your channel, Thank you very much for sharing your videos with the community.
Wow! Well done to the pilots on the landing. Totally nailed it with minimal damage. I was at the edge of my seat watching this episode. 😮
Just got home from school, immediately i sit down to watch the new gda video. At this point they are better than movies and super addictive !
The Videos are getting more amazing by quality and narrating the story. Well done Green Dot man! 🎉
Outstanding job by the flight crew. The fact they were able to use air stairs rather than evacuation slides is fantastic.
You want to fly with this kind of crew line-up all the time. They could even train this, as it was so perfect.
Please don’t ever stop making these videos. I love this channel so much ❤

As always, excellent recounting of an aircraft emergency.... concise narrative with good visual imagery ... well done !
For some weird reason, watching these videos makes me a feel a LOT safer about flying
Amazing story!! And the tension in the storytelling was fantastic! Thank you!
Fantasticly done. Thank you. Now that my first real watch is in the books, it is yet another episode to help me fall asleep to a randomized GDA “Air crashes” playlist. That playlist name seems like it could use an update though. Side note: for some reason I enjoy when you mention that a display goes blank. To me it is it like when Mentour says “Now,”.
Great vid. Also, neat product placement at 10:23
great story! i like the incidences where eventually all turns out well, and then also due to crew resource management, technical knowledge, calmness, intuision and professionality.
So much attention to ECAM at the beginning, it gave the suggestion that the accident has to do with it.
I came across this channel on April this year . I don’t know if any would believe me I had zero knowledge on aviation even I never knew the different types of aircraft but today 8 months later am so glad I have a lot of knowledge about planes how it works thanks to great narrator ( i wish I knew his real name and his personal social media handles if I knew I would have contacted him and show my gratitude towards hims ) locked and tuned in The kingdom of Bahrain ❤
I always wanted to be a pilot as a kid. Life didn’t work out that way, still enjoy sims though. Honestly, watching your channel makes me realize I wouldn’t have had the chops in any case. Good on you for shooting for, and achieving, your dreams my friend.

Christmas came early, Green Dot dropped a new video
It's nice to wake up in the morning and seeing you upload overnight :D Amazing video. Your use of 3D modelling/animations really look so similar to the real photo.
Fascinating. I'm glad I found your channel. I've been watching a few different aviation channels lately. Between yours and MenTour, I'm learning a lot. He gets a little too technical on his and you have clarified some of the things I was a little confused about. Although I appreciate the deep technical aspects, I sometimes get completely lost. I finally know what the PAN abbreviation means and it's place in the heirarchy of emergency transmissions! Great job explaining things. You keep it less technical so combining your posts with his, I'm learning a ton.
Great response from the crew, great CRM and thinking outside the envelope. Hopefully the outcomes of this incident resulted in better workflow management processes for this same emergency in the future.
Another incredible video. Your channel is the best.
