That's why Tabitha was an interesting character. I like to spare her and bring Rhonda back. I think Obsidian likes to portray super mutants as different types of people while Bethesda see them as a curse. That's why they're in every Bethesda game as an evil army you must fight.
Even if they don't want to be turned back into humans, it's better to have a bunch of angry, weak human raiders than a horde of ogres shooting and eating everything they come across.

Virgil's case was different because it was for the specific strain that Virgil had, he even says that no other super mutant would have been cured with the Institute's cure. He would have needed to generalize the antidote which would have taken more time, but the institute pulled the plug.

In Far Harbor, it's heavily implied that consumption of Vim Soda will somehow reverse much of the mental degradation of Super Mutancy. I wish they had given you the option to give Strong Vim by claiming it was the Milk of Human Kindness which wouldn't even be a complete lie since making someone less aggressive would make them more kind in turn.
I think the Super Mutants are too interesting of a concept to cure in terms of writing, and are too genetically modified to be cured via a simple "One size fits all" sort of cure. The fact is that they're a group that have had many themes within them explored, and I would love to see them explored further. One could be that the latent virus causes Alzheimer's disease, either due to age or adverse effects of FEV. Rather than turning feral like ghouls, they become more docile like Gen 2 mutants in the west coast, with certain characters we know from previous games suffering the effects of it. I would love to see Marcus coping with him loosing his memory, mistaking the play as the Chosen One if he were to be a companion, and finding some way to come to terms with his neural degradation. It could be where something as a line of holotapes that we find of Marcus slowly forgetting his life, and eventually us finding a Unnamed mutant in a cave, docile and unassuming, not remember his own name and forgetting you each time you talk to him. It abstracts the real concept of Alzheimers to not make it too personal, while still conveying a genuine and gut-wrenching story.

There are super mutants we see presenting as female though. In New Vegas there is one called Lily who has memories of being a grandma so she sees herself as a grandma. Then there is Tabitha who wears a blonde wig and sees herself as a female. We don't know her past life but all the super mutants you have seen are not male. They just turn out looking masculine after the FEV is used to create them. Lily and Tabitha have the same body types as the others but they dress differently. So you won't see super mutants or nightkin with breasts. Super mutants are genderless but the ones in Fallout 4 will call each other brother. However that doesn't mean they were all men in their human lives. It's just that the FEV made them into masculine shapes and they lose their reproductive organs. Super mutants can only be made, not born. In Fallout 3 they mutate people in vault 87, you see them take captives in Fallout 3 who you can free. These captives are to be made into super mutants. That's why they take people alive. In New Vegas Lily mentioned living in vault 17 which was raided by super mutants and she was taken to be turned into one. The Master who leads the super mutants in Fallout 1 would have them raid vaults for our humans who have no contact with radiation so that he could create more intelligent super mutants. Nightkin are another type of super mutant in the west coast also created by the master. Lily is one of them. Nightkin were considered the favourite of the master. They use stealth boys. East coast super mutants were created by different FEV. Fallout 3 was from vault 87. Fallout 4 was from the institute. Then create a quest where you can either lead your faction to destroy the super mutants to gain legitimacy in the eyes of the Commonwealth or try to convince a leader of theirs to stop raiding

They would see each other as kin but the vault 87 mutants would become hostile towards the mariposa mutants as they aren’t as violent and hateful towards humans as they are meanwhile the mariposa mutants would probably view east coasters the same way we would the family’s from wrong turn and the hills have eyes
