Okayu opens up a little about how she and Korone interact off-stream as opposed to how they interact on stream. It sounds like Okayu is kind of a tsundere with how she tries to hide her affection on stream, but it does explain that one time she couldn't sleep without Korone.

After New Year's, Okayu and Korone have been a lot more up-front about some of the differences between how they act on stream and off stream. Namely, that Okayu tends to be clingier off stream, as well as how stereotypically girly and cute Okayu tends to be. If you're a member, you see that side of Okayu during her member's only stuff, but probably not so much otherwise. Expand for TL Notes and more.
Around 00:21, I use the words "attention seeker" when translating かまってちゃん. This word is used often and I translate it in slightly different ways at times, but in general, the original meaning is more like someone who is kind of childish and keeps wanting attention. It's kind of hard to capture that childish part without being outright insulting in English (phrases like someone who is 'spoiled' or a 'baby' are pretty negative), and that aren't negative are more general. Similarly, the phrase "甘えん坊" (which gets used in the clip as well) is closer to a spoiled child, but I also thought that was too negative, so I used other phrases, like "liking to be doted on" and such.
Around 00:38, I use "annoying and clingy" for 面倒くさい. Basically, someone who is troublesome or bothersome. Within this context, I felt that Okayu meant it more like, she keeps trying to get Korone's attention and constantly wants to be with her to the point that she's like a clingy girlfriend. Because of that, I went with "clingy," and I feel like it captured the idea pretty well. The clips I included show her getting mad at Korone for watching Anime without her and getting mad that Korone doesn't invite her for food all the time are both pretty good examples of her being clingy, so I think it works really well here.
2:59, I translate zousui (雑炊) as "vegetable porridge." Normally I don't like translating food names, like takoyaki and whatnot, but I felt like zousui is kind of obscure, so it'd be easier to understand this clip if I used an English food name instead. If I didn't, I'd have to put a TL note mid-video anyway, so it's just easier to watch this way. It's important to understand why Korone is so baffled by Okayu wanting to come over for porridge, since most of us who have eaten it know that it's not that flavorful and something you usually just eat when you're sick or something. As a side note, no, the rice porridge that Okayu's name references has completely different spelling and pronunciation.
3:23, I just wanted to note I misheard this line A LOT. Okayu saying Uber Eats doesn't have veggie porridge is pretty funny.
3:29, so originally, this is Okayu saying "ちょっと舐めてる," which literally would translate into "you're kind of underestimating me." However, 舐める is a word that means both "to underestimate" and "to lick" in Japanese. So in order to keep the pun (since Korone makes a loud licking noise right after), I added the "not making a lick of sense" line. Unfortunately, it comes off a bit strong this way, but I wasn't sure how else to keep the joke without just explaining it. Nobody during the QC process thought of anything better, so lol.
Bonus content: As I mentioned at the start of this post, the new year's been showing a lot more of some of the behind the scenes for Okayu and Korone. Here's a bunch of things that may or may not have clips already:
- In addition to what is in this clip, elsewhere, Okayu's mentioned that she messages Korone A LOT over LINE. To the point where she messages her so much, that her chat history with her is practically a daily diary of hers. Also that when she messages Korone, it's a 9:1 ratio (Okayu sends 9x as many messages to Korone as Korone responds to her).
- During Korone's R-Type stream, she even talks about how Okayu has a generally "cool" image due to her voice and stuff, but she thinks Okayu is cuter than anyone else and is very girly.
- In a recent Sonic 2 stream, Korone mentioned that while Okayu might seem disinterested when she asks her for collabs, Okayu is usually very happy and receptive about collab talks.
- During the Mario Kart practice stream she had with Subaru, Okayu suggests that Subaru make flower decorations, to which Subaru responds by saying Okayu is seriously really girly.
In a lot of fan art, it's usually Korone aggressively trying to get Okayu's attention, so it's pretty funny to know that it's more of the other way around when the stream's off.
Bet you get this often, but ill say it anyway: you people are Heroes.
Some of these things have been sort of discussed before, just in a less direct capacity.
For example Okayu using Koro-san like a diary. She mentioned in a Getting Over It stream that Koro-san acts like her external memory who remembers more stuff about Okayu's life than Okayu herself does lol
Then there were the early OkaKoro streams not too long after their debut where Okayu acted way more clingy. Allegedly Okayu would always hug Koro-san while they slept in the same futon, because Okayu can only sleep well while hugging a pillow of some kind. There is also that legendary stream where Okayu went to sleep early, but then came back on-stream because she couldnt sleep without Koro-san.
Of course a lot of this is also connected to how Okayu felt indebted to Koro-san who was there for her when she was at a low point in her life. Okayu doesnt make it a secret how much she adores and respects Koro-san, although in recent times she has been talking about her more casually and less reverently. Not only that, Okayu even lived at Koro-san's place for a short while as she was looking for a place to move into. I know the whole couple thing is not to be taken too seriously, but I sometimes still think people underestimate what super close friends they are.
