Love the video, Van! /Best regards, Linus
Got mine in the mail yesterday. Great quality and looks good! The best part is my initials are M.S. So it makes me feel like I'm that much more of a Spirited Man.
Best looking merch yet for sure💯
Van- do you do much with other people or are you mostly in your head?
Van- I think a percentage of people relate to you because they are also living life in their own short story-keep on
Like I always said, his videos are like therapy to me
I love this video - there's a sense that you've departed a little from the recent formula - not in a a bad way, and maybe due to circumstances. But I really love what's going on in this film. thanks.

Actually edit is everything
It’s finally getting cold enough that I can wear my Spirited Man sweater. Thanks for everything, Van.
your welcoem
Having grown up on the East coast in the 80’s, the diner was our home away from home. Thanx for the ride, Van, really enjoyed it!
“Ventura Highway in the sunshine. Where the days are longer. The nights are stronger than moonshine. You’re gonna go, I know”
Thank you, Van. You are a poet. And that drone sequence was beautiful.
"It begins with a remembered line from a long forgotten poem."
Beautiful line there
I laughed when you explained who Eric Burden is, I forget there are young people watching this. 🤣 Your story telling along with the bike ride made this a great video to watch, actually I'm going to watch it again because it was that entertaining 👍😎👍
And also people not from the US
@@helpfulcommenter That was my thought. It took me a few seconds to get them straight. He was just talking about Chris Burden recently, wants to buy his property.
@@thearchive64 Or bloody Newcastle mate ;)
I don't know who Eric Burden is and I'm 54 years old, lived in America all my life. But I do know the song very well. condescending, "type before you think" comments are the forgetful easy parts.
@@helpfulcommenter I know, went way over your head. Go back to sleep.
This Spirited man does the same thing as Van. Writing or engraving torque setting 0:31 or more often wrench size 1:31 next to the bolt on the product. Massive time saver.
Thanks for pointing that out. I’m going to start doing this.
This video cured my headache after a bad week. Thanks.
This video feels like the essence of both living in the moment and reminiscing about the past to me. It has something extremely meditative and relaxing about it, yet it's extremely entertaining to me. Great video!
There's a true genuine tone that I always indulge on when I watch your vids. This made my day and I take comfort in your storytelling.
Thanks for this. For some reason, people don’t talk about bad weeks, bad days or bad moments. It’s almost cliche in today’s society.
I’m waiting for lab results to find out if I have a rare blood cancer and it’s been a challenge. I have the mindset that it is what it is and I am blessed no matter what, but there are still hard days and a constant weight in my chest.
I ordered the Die Trying hoodie and will wear it with pride.
Keep doing what you do.
Hey friend, what were the lab results? I hope you're OK.
came by to say hopefully everything is ok! stay strong!
The spirited man should never use a torque wrench to loosen nuts. The torque wrench is a calibrated tool for precise tightening of fasteners only.
my thoughts well written , I'm a mechanic I cringed
Unless you are worried about stripping the threads then using a torque wrench to undo would be a good idea!
@@MarcusTDM never use a torque wrench to undo fasteners. Period. Ever. Not a matter of stripping anything it’s about screwing up the calibration of the tool.
@@MarcusTDM never use a torque wrench for anything other then tightening a fastener
@@jeremyproctor9671 Just for the record, I wouldn’t use one to do this as decent torque wrenches cost a lot of money, but i perhaps he doesn’t care to much!
Van, This video is amazing. Your “Bad Week” simple video is exactly what we’re all here for. Your cameras falling over, and mundane chores are exactly why I watch for some reason. Your honesty. Thank you. My life keeps getting more functional and organized thanks to these videos. I feel more normal thanks to you… or more comfortable with my uniqueness.
This is the kind of UA-cam I love. Thank you Van!
The simplicity of your art is beautiful Van. Keep making content for the world to enjoy. Thank you!
More like this please. What a beautiful video.
Hands down, my favorite episode! Fantastic!!!!
"All my life, my heart has sought a thing, I cannot name." Now it's my favorite line too❤️
So beautiful Van. The simplicity does something to calm my anxious mind and inspire me at the same time.
It's like I went to high school with this guy and I just now rediscovered him after only hearing about him randomly over the years.... Like... I ran into him in a diner kinda thing. I don't know what this channel is... But I freaking love it....... What a cool dude....
Man, this episode was like poetry. The best kind.
Three thumbs up.
Its very simple. I see a Van video. I click
Your best episode yet.
-Thanks, from South Korea
well that was so beautiful i could cry. I'll be reading those stories. And i'll perhaps be making my way out to the coast again soon.
Yeah you know, I was just thinking about the diner near my apartment back in NYC. It was a greek diner. The front was filled with fresh baked cakes and cookies. I always went for the breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage and homefries. With black coffee and a few slices of buttered toast. I live out of US now so , yeah no greek diners. I always think back how happy it was just to eat breakfast inside that diner.
"Crummy crappy week " And then camera falling down was so perfectly in sync..too good van...
*YES MORE NEISTAT CONTENT*
What an incredible peace of art
I don’t rewatch UA-cam videos NEVER 👎 but I have rewatched some of yours I find them fascinating the thought process the care the attention to detail and details not chosen to be attended to
Calories, horsepower, memories, music and poetry. A heady mix.
Might not want to use your torque wrench as a breaker bar... can throw off your torque settings. :) Ride on!
Only if you go passed the click. Turn up the tourque and it will be fine.
Was not prepared for this. It‘s beautiful. Someday i‘ll be riding in these Mountains… thank you from 🇩🇪
I lived in Malibu in the late 70s /early 80s and this ride brought back a lot of memories. Thank you.
I was crying when I clicked play. Now I'm calm as ever. Thanks
This is brilliant, thanks for the masterclass in filming yourself with multiple cameras, but especially the storytelling around LA!
Love your videos! Thanks for putting them out.
Keep being you van!
That was so meditative. Just what I needed. It's been a stressful period in my life, and now I miss my motorcycle. Those moments going out without a plan and just getting lost on the bike were magical.
Watching this I imagine Hunter Thompson on that road on his BSA 650 Lightning. I appreciate this video.
Tokyo resident and Breakfast Club regular here.
The bathroom IS spotless besides Tom Sachs’ message written in sharpie on the wall.
It’s a hell of a spot.
Having just come home from one of the worst nights of work in a long time. I have to say thank you Van. I feel like I was with you on that ride. I don't know if you even read the comments section but this video made a terrible night end better. Thanks.
Your videos inspire me in a way I can't really put into words. The way you view life inspires me. Beautiful storytelling through and through.
Every video is just so good you try with your videos they make me forget about any sadness in the world and I thank you with my whole heart.
Every time I’m watching your videos It makes me thing that life can be beautiful.
There is something therapeutic about this episode. Thanks Van.
This feels like total immersion Van! thank you for sharing this.
Thanks for the tip about The Breakfast Club. As an LA expat living in Japan your videos make me homesick!
WOW. I did not want that to ever end. A perfect accompaniment to my cuppa tea
4:56 has to be the most relatable clip ever 😂 My town of FULL of roads, avenues, streets, and boulevards all with the same name!!
sorry you had a bad week!.. thanks for another beautiful movie to watch
Ride along down PCH, Steve McQueen stories, and a poem fromHunter S. Thompson, what a great vibe. "Buy the ticket, take the ride", H. Thompson
Thank you for your time Van.
This is the second time I've watched this video, and rewatching it the second time gave me the same reaction as the first -- Goosebumps. You had me at McQueen, but then you brought old HST into it, and I thought to myself "now you're talking, Bubba!" .
I had a bad week waiting for an upload. Now after watching this one I feel you just hit a reset button on me! Thanks for a beautiful work, Van.
When I have a bad week I disassemble and clean the carb on my 2001 Honda CLR125. Satisfying.
The pacing of this is beautiful and very meditative
Thanks Van.
I like how you take the “wave” to a whole new level.
awesome
I love this video. You showed such a unique experience from your perspective with so much depth and character.
I've enjoyed watching all your videos but this one I will watch and rewatch many times, thank you, Van!
Haven"t even watched yet but exactly what I needed, Thank you Van
More, more of this! This was fantastic. Can we just get cool visuals like this while Van tells us stories? This and the podcast build episode are just perfect.
From Groton. Love to hear it mentioned here. Met Casey back in 2013 at Ledyard High. Keep up the content man!
More of this, please? Yes, just more of this.
Hope this week improves for ya Van, but thanks for a beautiful slice of artwork. Out of bad things can come something beautiful this is a case in point....
I’m finishing my work in Hollywood today with similar bad week and it rained in LA today ness. I m enjoying a bike ride home. Thanks
Your best video so far! Thanks for your thoughts and the pinch of freedom.
Thanks for the ride, buddy.
Thanks for the trip Mr. Neistat
I'm soothed watching and love that I drive almost this same route to be soothed.
Patty's in Studio City was my diner with endless midnight coffee.
I drive Mulholland every day - twice a day in fact. Every day is different. Every day a joy. Every day i also recoil in it's majesty.
I have always resisted Patreon. Not because I expect great content to be free, but instead, because I am “subscriptioned” out! However, Van, your videos are of such remarkable value to my life, (and you don’t have a “Donate” button on UA-cam), that I signed up for Patreon and subscribed.
It also helped that you did a video on screws that I wouldn’t get to see otherwise. 😊 Advertising works!!
Seriously though, thank you!
I don't usually comment but noticed Steve McQueen was driving an original Jaguar XK-SS, the irony is my father builds (from scratch, he has the original plans) those exact cars here in NZ & sells them to wealthy clients all around the world. Jaguar asked my father to build the re-release for them but as they weren't coming out of the UK Jaguar factory, they had to build them in England but my Dad builds parts for them to put in the latest XK-SS. Lewis Hamiltons old man owns one of my Dads cars too.
His business is Classic Car Developments in NZ.. Love your videos by the way 👌🏼😊
breakfast club tokyo is definitely an inspiration, adore Mama Luli & Kunichi Nomura so much!
Got a die trying sweater when the last came out and I’ve already gotten it! Great quality and super soft on the inside! Ready for Texas to cool down a little more. Plus your logo is my initials so it works even better
Great video Van. I love diners too. One of my favorite things to do in a new city is ask a local where a good diner is.
Rosies Diner! I grew up out in gales ferry. I always went to Norms though. always fun seeing references to that small town area of ct in you and caseys videos. thanks for the nostalgia.
It’s not the fancy video editing we love but what you have to say and how you perceive life
Hope next week is better for you, thanks for the ride.
One of my best friends just sent me this and it’s topped off the end of my week!
Thank you man! X
I have subscribed ever since Casey had a video about you. I have seen every video you have graced us with. When I watch I always feel like a way cooler and smarter friend is visiting me and sharing his adventures. Keep sharing friend.
I never leave comments on yt but good job, thank you.
Wow. Just wow. One day, I’ll be able to meet you and buy you a coffee/make an asado for you. Such an inspiration sir
Blue shirts. Now I can get on board and support the cause. The cause of Van. 😎👍🏼 excellent message too.
I get so much from these. Something as simple as engraving the torque spec on an axle nut. Minor but potentially life changing.
Wow..between the McQueen stuff, and PCH…my stress just melted away. I was lucky enough to drive the PHC from LA to San Francisco in Feb 2020, a life long dream of mine. I guess I’ll go outside now, and dream some more about California from my Great Lakes region yard.
I love when you make videos like these
all the stories the spirited man told were very interesting...this video just turned my bad week into an awesome one..
Thank you.
Keep the good work, Van! Love from Brazil!
As a man from the analog world as well as the digital, and driving those roads everyday myself, I really loved this. Thank you.
Thank you for uploading this. You are a great storyteller. Sorry for the terrible week, I hope things got better. I enjoyed listening to the stories as we went on a virtual motorcycle ride.
This week was total crap for me too Van. I needed this. Thank you.
8:40 I love how smooth that edit was
Brilliant! More of these type videos. It's therapeutic.
hey van... the diner you are thinking about was ROSIE'S diner on 184...My family owned the poolhall/ arcade /entertainment center on Long Hill Rd (Hamburger Highway) not far from there...I've been following you and casey for the last several years and really enjoy hearing you both talk about the local experiences that you guys had while growing up... keep up the great work... jon from Norwich, ct
