  • Today, I pick up a lure that I have ignored most of my fishing career, the swim jig. I purchased swim jigs from Tactical Bassin and Matt Stefan to figure out which swim jig method is better, boppin or swimming.

    Swim jigs are an art form. Matt and Matt both have great advice and lures that they've developed. But you have to have a deeper understanding of how and when and where to use them. The no jack is for big fish and braid. Busting through grass. Not over but straight through. Stephens swim jig is more open water type of stuff. Rocky banks etc. Hence the lighter wire hook you don't have to hit em as hard. Like I said in the beginning. It is an art form. It's an. All around all year bait. But it goes way deeper than just a couple of jobs and a couple of trailers. Ive been in the rabbit hole with swim jigs for a long time. It's my confidence bait for sure. I'll throw it first every time. And most of the day. But I make subtle changes throughout. I never shake my bait. I don't really like that. Straight retrieve let the bait itself do the work. It's very simple but not at the same time. Keep at it and you'll get it. Learn along the way. I never catch small fish on a swim jig anymore. It's always at least 2+ pounds usually in the 3-4lb range but you gotta learn how to do that.

      Thank you for the info! I filmed this video about a month ago and have been loving the swim jig ever since. I agree that the straight retrieve has gotten the best results. Thanks for watching!

    Watching this I realize If I ever tried to set the hook in a kayak I'm going in the water, and trying to pedal while reeling, LOL I"m probably falling in twice.

    I have very little confidence in both chatter baits and spinner baits but I love swim jigs! I think swim jigs are the finesse version of both spinner baits and chatter baits but honestly nothing beats fishing a paddle tail on a weighted ewg hook after you fished through with any of those follow up the area with a paddle tail and clean up all the ones that didn’t commit the first time around

    • @FullTimeFishing
      @FullTimeFishing  Місяць тому

      I agree with you on the 3 levels of finesse. I like the spinner/chatterbait with cloudy windy conditions. A swim jig any time but still some clouds or winds. And then a standalone swim bait when nothing else is getting bit. Thanks for the information!

    Swim jigs are deadly and usually catch some Biggins. I’ve got a PB with one before. I’ve never seen the swim jig with the underpin that looks super interesting. I have to check that one out.

    I also started using the Xzone swammer as a swimjig trailer on Tacticalbassin's recommendations. I love them I have never caught so many fish on a swimjig. I will be waiting for the review of the core tackle swimjig.

    I never had success and had no confidence in a swim jig until I watched the TB video and bought what they recommended. Ikes mini swim jig and a xzone swammer - Cali swim jig with a gambler ez swimmer. I now have a dedicated rod and reel for it.

    Core tackle swim jigs come in light and heavy hook styles

    • @FullTimeFishing
      @FullTimeFishing  Місяць тому

      When I looked online, there was no heavy hook style. I also messaged Matt and he said there are no plans, as of right now, to make a 1/2 oz or heavier hook. Is not super thin but not as thick is a no Jack or California swim jig. Thanks for watching!

      @@FullTimeFishing I actually have the 1/4 ounce in a 2/0 version which is a lighter hook than the 4/0 version.

      I haven’t used the Beast Coast swim jigs but I have seen Alex Rudd catching em on them.
      I used to catch bass on swim jigs using a zoom twin tail grub but haven’t used them much for a few years because of all the other techniques you can use in bass fishing. But since watching Tactical Bassin from the beginning I too just bought a bunch of jigs and swimmers, largo Shad’s and will be using them more often. As far as weight I fish shallow so 3/8 1/2 oz.
      I like how Matt talks about the right trailer giving secondary action to the jig, no bopping for me.
