I like how Marisa and Akuma immediately vibe with each other. Marisa's 100% down to fight to the death and she's the only character in the roster Akuma compliments in his victory quotes.

I say it's a nice way to push the main character role more into him, less of "kids nowadays" type of character I also do hope this means they're gonna keep him as a main character *stares at Alex and Abel and Rashid*
Luke and Lily sensed something in Akuma beyond his fists, and some veteran fighters challenged his motives. Most interesting, and could lead to character development.
He seems to muse on it in dialogue with the avatar, acknowleding how the likes of Ryu fight without accepting or refusing death, which opposes his own views. Perhaps Akuma wonders, deep down, if truly craving enlightenment through death is the ideal path.
I think he's trying to find His true purpose, something beyond the killing intent that he has been following for a while He also wants to laugh in the face of death like Ryu. Like the WT Protagonist.
It's Ryu's fault, since SFV he stopped being scared of Akuma, laughing after being defeated, and now in VI he is reveling in their fight, Akuma is having a hard time understanding this attitude and is questioning himself.
Unless Akuma is deliberately holding back. He tends to do that to test his opponent's potential. He only goes all out against fighters he deems worthy.
In general, Win quotes from many characters tend to be trash talk even though they're wins that probably wouldn't canonically happen. Still though, the insights they say about his character (Lily calling him insecure) seem to be true.
