Regarding the CPUs, the Dell PowerEdge R740xd is a dual socket server that takes 1st and 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors in the LGA3647 socket. In general, we recommend keeping your system as up to date as possible for everything, so you do not run into potential processor compatibility issues. A few videos into this series, we will show exactly how to do this in our Mass Updates video, so make sure you’re subscribed so you don’t miss it.
Below are some of the CPUs we recommend. We break it down into 3 categories: Low End, Value and High End. This is not a complete list of compatible processors, but this is what we have found to provide the most value in terms of performance and pricing. There are a ton of other great options within the 1st and 2nd generation Xeon series. If you are using a CPU not listed here, drop a comment down below, we love seeing what configurations the community is using.

We will also show you how to properly remove your old processors. Be careful not to accidentally hit the CPU pins when taking out your old CPU. Also be careful when removing the old CPU out of the socket itself; the paste can sometimes flake off and end up inside the socket. We will show you how to handle your CPU and what steps to take to avoid this mistake. We will also install a CPU upgrade and explain the process with step-by-step instructions.

What is a point of Intel Xeon Platinum 8256? High-end PC CPUs have better specs for much less money. I am not knowledgeable about server hardware, but I noticed that X. P. 8256 exists, and I am trying to find what justifies it at that price.
