In this video, we’ve docked in Halifax, Nova Scotia! This is my second visit to Nova Scotia, but my first time here in Halifax, so I can’t wait to disembark the ship to show you around!
I’ll take you to the Titanic exhibition at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, before heading to the Halifax Citadel via Downtown. After this, I’ll take you to the pub for few beers (woo!), before heading back to the ship.
Once back onboard, it’s time for a Speciality restaurant: Cagney’s. Historically, I’ve loved dining in here, but will it live up to my high expectations? Only time will tell!

Lived here in Halifax my whole life, it’s so fun to see you explore my city!! Hope you enjoyed!
Ahh, you’re so lucky to call Halifax home. Thanks a lot for having me - loved my trip! 😊
As a former museum professional, thank you for your respectful highlight of the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, leaving the actual exhibition to their staff! Glad to see you enjoying this itinerary the second time around, and looking forward to seeing your arrival back in NYC (my home). Cheers!
Ah, thanks a lot. I always think the museums need all the support they can get - they don’t need me showing everyone everything for free 😂 I’m glad you appreciated that!
Thanks a lot for following along - I’m so thankful!
Thank you for being respectful to my adopted home town. I have lived here since 1974, having Immigrated from the UK in 68. I have loved living here, such a pity you didn't have time to explore what is an absolute jewel of a city. Thank you.
Ahh, I had a wonderful day here - would love to make it back at some point! 😊 Thanks very much for watching!
I’m so disappointed you didn’t get to the Alexander Keith’s brewery…. Next time 🍻 Next time
I hiked up the stairs to the citadel for the first time in 10 years, last week and realized how out of shape I am :-). The view is worth it though.
Glad you enjoyed your stay!
Ha, this made me laugh - I had the same thought as I hobbled up that hill, ha!
Thanks for watching!
Sir Samuel Cunard was a Canadian❤
I was hoping you would order the cheesecake at Cagney's. It is by far the best dessert there.
Yeah, I just love the food in there - it’s such good quality! 🤤 Thanks so much for watching, Michael!
"they thought they were going to get the damaged ship...but they got the dead instead".......what a powerful, thought-proving, statement. I paused the video to read the one sign you focused on (and I agree wholeheartedly with you on not giving a huge tour of places like that), and when you slowly read the words, it brings teawrs to your eyes. We were prepared for a ship but got bodies instead.....damn.
Yeah, that’s stays with me - such a full statement, and it gave me chills at the museum - truly awful. Thanks so much for watching, Maria!
Glad you're exploring where I was born. Dad was Royal Canadian Navy but passed in 61 and we moved to Ontario. Hubby brought me back 8 years ago, and we enjoyed the port last month on our MS Volendam Boston to Montreal cruise. Lots more of Nova Scotia well worth exploring. There was an amazing little restaurant that served the best scallops I can recall having, along with a flight of beers in Lunenburg. We wandered the Citadel, too. It was hilarious learning about former US President Obama's visit. No one warned him or his bodyguards. We also saw a bit of a Titanic grave site.
Ah, fascinating family history! I totally agree that there’s so much more to see - I fully plan to return, as I feel like I’ve left a little piece of my here - I love when that happens! Thanks a lot for watching, Amanda!
If you come back during a time the HMCS Sackville is open for tours, you should go. That is the ship behind the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic.
Ahh, I’ll need to bookmark this for future visits - thanks so much!!
Sending you love from Halifax! I am so glad you got to enjoy some of the beautiful city I call home.
Ahh, thanks for watching - I’m so jealous you call Halifax home - gorgeous part of the world. Thanks for supporting my channel by watching today!
@@FraserAtSea and you did say Halifax Citadel correctly 😊
@@Melissayoung898 thank goodness - I was worried I’d offend someone out there, haha!
I have never heard the word 'plinth' used outloud in a sentence.
Adoring the content.
Ha, this is so funny - glad I can entertain 😂
UA-cam recommended your channel to me with you Saint John video (where I live now), but I also lived in Halifax for 3 years when I was in school. It is fun to be able to recognize all of the places you are walking! Next time you are in the city, Pier 21 - the Canadian Museum of Immigration is one of my favourite places, and a few blocks away from the citadel are the Public Gardens which are lovely in every season.
Friends of mine have a distillery (Halifax Distilling Company) that is right across the road from the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, which is also worth a stop if you like rum 😁
Ahh, hello! I’m happy you’ve found my channel - thanks a lot for following along and supporting me!
I LOVED Saint John, as you’ll know from my video, and would love to return. Who knows - maybe there could be a future Fraser at Sea road trip to re-cover all of these places 😊
Thanks again!
The JD Shore rum cream. So good.
Great piece. We love Halifax and all of the Maritime ports. Very walkable city.
Totally agree Greg. Must be beautiful over there in the summer weather, too!
Fraser, you are so respectful…👍
Thanks Kate, I’m so glad you think so actually!
How disappointing that you got into Halifax so late to enjoy more of it. That sudden change in weather was probably an advance warning of the UK to come! Four seasons in one day….and all that. The meal looked delicious and a good choice. Hope you enjoyed the karaoke- did you participate? Looking forward to the next video. Thanks for sharing, Fraser.
Ha, you’re probably right - a taster of the Great British weather, eh? So I always LOVE karaoke, but I’m a watcher and a listener - I never ever take part - I reeeeeeally can’t sing, so wouldn’t put anyone through that!
That's my downtown. Indeed, what 5-minutes, and depending on the time of year, you may experience at least 3 seasons! lol The Maritime Museum is pretty special and is adding more exhibits all the time. Nothing wrong with a stop at the "Golden Arches"...especially for a Big Mac! That damp cold will get right in your bones, so I can understand the need for warmth. Happy that Halifax treated you well!
Ahh, how lovely that it’s your hometown! Thanks for watching, and I’m glad you agree with my love of those arches, haha!
Nice to see that you enjoyed the time in town.
Thanks for having me!!
Whilst you taking in the sights, if you saw “The Five Fisherman” it was a temporary morgue It is haunted. 💕😊 Great video. One hundred thousand welcomes. A proud Bluenoser here
Hey Marion, thanks so much for leaving this comment - welcome to my little corner of UA-cam! Thanks for your support!
How cool that you were able to experience the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic! I have been obsessed with the story of Titanic all my life (she's even tattooed on my arm 😂) - you may have already learned this in the exhibit, but Halifax was where two funeral ships were commissioned by WSL to recover bodies. They were the Mackay-Bennett and the Minia, and together they brought 323 bodies back to Halifax for burial. It will never cease to be a tragic and fascinating story.
Yeah, you and I both. I find everything about the ship and the overall story absolutely fascinating, although I do agree - totally tragic.
Thanks a lot for watching!
Thanks again Fraser for another great video. You have given us 2 definite places to see (Museum & Citadel) on our up coming cruise.
Glad we've got free laundry as elite with Princess 😊
You’re so welcome - thanks for watching, Simon! Free laundry is something I’ll be forever jealous of - I’m actually boarding VV on Sunday, and get free laundry on there, so super excited!
I'm heading up there in late August on the NCL Breakaway. Thanks for the heads up about packing accordingly.
Oh, it’s so important! That’ll be a great cruise on the Breakaway - super jealous!
Thanks very much for watching, Alexandra!
I live in Halifax. It has been a very warm summer. Pack some shorts as well.
@@Yoga4all6384 thank you! I'm trying not to overpack, but it seems that it's the time of year where i need to be ready for everything
The next time you visit Halifax, take the Peggy’s Cove excursion. On the drive out/back they provide a wealth of information about the Titanic cemetery, the horrible harbor explosion, etc. We have visited Halifax twice on this type of New England itinerary. Never disappoints! My husband loved the Alexander Keefe beer & sadly we are unable to get in the US! 🍺
Ahh, that’s a good recommendation - I did hear Peggy’s Cove is lovely. That gives me the perfect excuse to book another cruise, right?! 😏
It’s Alexander Keith’s 😉👍🏻
We really like Halifax. Did Peggy’s cove and the Titanic Cemetery, even stopped at Citadel first time there. Since then it’s been chowder and lobster right at port when they had the origional market. Love the boardwalk. We are there next month and plan to get a Donair in town and then walk down to the boardwalk area.
I agree - it’s a great city, isn’t it? Sounds like you’ve had some great experiences there, with more planned! Thanks for watching!
I’m dying to see how happy you are when the wicker basket arrives!
Ha 😂
That was a braw port Fraser, definitely weather familiar to a Scot ! Thanks for adding another to the list of places I should visit ! 👏
I’m so sorry to your credit card after all of this, Stephen, haha! Thanks for coming with me - I did love Halifax!
@FraserAtSea hope today goes straightforward for you, Fraser ! Will need a page on your website/Patreon for your viewers cruise/travel related hiccups/disasters !
Great video Fraser. I love learning about the Titanic history. I did go to a Titanic exhibit at the Luxor in Las Vegas that was surprisingly good. However, I would love to visit the one in Halifax. A New England - Canada cruise is on my bucket list. I just got home from 14 days on the Royal Princess in Alaska and it was great.
Oh, I’m so glad you enjoyed Alaska - Princess is such a great cruise line for that part of the world. I wouldn’t have expected a Titanic exhibition in Vegas - that’s funny!
Thanks for watching!
Very enjoyable blog of Halifax. A very interesting place. I was in Halifax on Norwegian Getaway on a repositioning cruise from New York to Southampton on 1 May 24..I also had Free at Sea but I never ate at Cagneys however I was able to order steak and lobster in the main dining room.
Thanks a lot for watching, and therefore your support of my channel! This would be a great port on a repositioning cruise - so different to the usual Caribbean or Canary Island stopovers.
Thanks again for watching - glad you enjoyed!!
happy to see you once again got a piece “home” here in North America. I live in New York City and am 2nd generation Sicilian but first place on my bucket list to visit is Scotland. looking forward to more adventures from your travels.
Ahh, please do plan to visit Scotland - I may biased, but I adore it. If you do ever make the trip, drop me a message - I’d love to help you route plan!
Great video Fraser I would choose McDonald’s every time your dinner on board the ship looked amazing too 😻
Ha, I’m so glad we’re aligned - I LOVE those arches…!!
If/when you come back to Halifax, you should take a tour of all the Titanic related sites in the city.
Oh, I’d LOVE that!
Love the music.
Thank you! 🎵
Glad you went to Cagney makes up for Mikey d earlier. Lol we refuse to do chains while visiting.
Ha, Cagney’s or McDonalds - no comment on which would win in a fight… Haha!
I went to Pubnico/Yarmouth area this week and met the nicest people. It is a beautiful place.
Ahh, I’ve just googled that - looks wonderful. Hope you had a great trip!
Also, thanks for watching!
Hey Fraser, I always order the same exact meal at Cagney's🥩! Glad you enjoyed it.
Oh, snap! It was so so tasty!
Thanks for watching!
@@FraserAtSea 🥳
I’m again confused about the timeline…it seems far too cold for this to have been a month ago? There is no way it was +10 in August! I was incredibly disappointed to see you pass on all the wonderful restaurants and East Coast hospitality for McDonald’s. 😭 If I’m being honest, it’s quite an insult to the amazing Halifax chefs, restaurants and pubs.
Hello! I've answered this on your other comment - hope that makes sense! Don't worry - I do enjoy local cuisines normally, but today was an exception to the rule :)
@2:55 - Damn. I live like 5km from the centre of town and we didn't get hail at all this year (actually, I can't remember the last time we had any). Still, glad you enjoyed the trip, despite the lousy weather. :) I'll never understand why ships come here so early in the year...
Ahh, I didn’t hate it - all good fun! I had a blast if a day - thanks for having me! 😊
So Nova Scotia reminded you a bit of home. Maybe a newer version of home :)
Absolutely right - such a nice Scottish twist! Thanks a lot for watching! 🏴 😊

I was on that ship. One of only two so far.
There’s no place like home, Fraser.❤
Oh, I totally agree. Thanks so much for watching!
I did this same cruise on the Escape last October. It might have been the same time you were on because we did have hail one day in one of the Canadian ports. I'm doing it again this year on the Breakaway.
Ahh, it sounds like it may well have been! You’ll need to watch the other episodes and stay tuned incase you get your 5 seconds of fame on screen at some point, haha!
Thanks for watching!
You gotta come back in the summer, it’s completely different compared to whenever this was filmed. The weather looked gross
Oh, I’d love to make it back in summer. If I enjoyed it so much with this weather, I know I’ll LOVE it in the sunshine! Thanks a lot for watching!
Hi from Halifax! I enjoyed your video, very much 😊
Hello! Thanks so much for watching!!
Loved you going to Cagneys. I went on my free and sea promotion last week and had the same steak and cheesecake… omg indeed!!!!
Ooh, I’m so happy you agreed - I did think this when I saw your ship in port and googled to check if she had a Cagney’s onboard. Was planning to message you to get an update, so I’m glad you enjoyed! ❤️
@@FraserAtSea you were bang on about ncl…. I did indeed love it and the studio cabins are so cute and great value for money. Your videos really helps me feel prepared for being in there
Love this one, thanks! Well done! I don't do TikTok. I have plenty to do besides keeping up with the media I do 😂. Can't fault you for McDonald's. I've done that. 😊
Ha, yeah there’s enough going on everywhere else, huh?! Thanks a lot for watching, Tammy!!
No commercial flying in 1912😢
Ha, you know what I mean - maybe a slip of the tongue - oops! Hahaha
What date was this taken? I'm pretty sure I was at the Scotiabank Centre that night as you I could see my vehicle in your vehicle.
Oh wow - that’s funny! This was October 13th 2023 😊
@@FraserAtSea That was the Doobie Brothers Conter.
Hope you went to The Old Triangle !!

I love Cagney’s, great steak place 👍

Thanks so much, Caroline!
This must be from a while ago, because I saw you in that Facebook group today from Athens.
You’re right - this was a few months ago! As I travel a lot, it’s taken a few months to get this content finalised!
It’s not hail - it’s sleet!!!!
Wow - so much more intense than the sleet we get in Scotland, haha! Thanks for watching, Katherine!
This is my home!
What a gorgeous part of the world you call home! ❤️
Nova Scotia means New Scotland. 🇨🇦 🏴
It sure does! Thanks for watching!!
Great video. Was this in October?
It was indeed! 😊
I've no idea when you made this but I can't bdlieve you wasted you meal on Micky-D. Scotia Square food court is famous for its international foods. You missed out on soem delicious Indian and to mention our famous "Crack Chicken" from KOREA GARDEN. If you ever make it back. Please chose one of these.
Ooh, great tips. Thanks for this - I’ll need to give them a try next time - thank you! Also, thanks for watching!
Fly the dead home from Halifax in 1912! 🤔
Ha, perhaps a slip of the tongue on my part - that made me chuckle - oops!
Dumb question. How are there artifacts from the Titanic? Were the items found floating? Apologies for a dumb question
I assume they’ll have been extracted from the wreck, but maybe they did find some floating - not sure actually.
A few bits (clothes etc) were donated from families too, I believe!
Most was floating debris, heavier objects were either recovered from the seafloor in the 80s and later, or things grabbed by people fleeing the ship. If I recall, some artifacts are from other ships of the White Star Line that would have been used on the Titanic.
There is a podcast called Very Special Episode, and their first episode was about the "incident" at the end of filming of Titanic (the end and beginning modern bits were filmed in Halifax). I recommend a listen.
I’m so disappointed you didn’t get to the Alexander Keith’s brewery…. Next time 🍻 Next time
Ahh, next time! I’m sure there will be a next time to this corner of the world - I LOVED it!
