SAABs Ruled, when the Rules meant you drove a STOCK-BASED Car!! Lancia then Audi, changed that, and SAAB, tried to hold-the-line with production-based cars, to Go RACING. Stig, gave it a good Go, and it wasn't enough, 3 years later. After That, Groupe 'B' was INSANE, and had NO RELATION to a Production car being Raced. SAAB , Sadly limped away from Rally Races then. I loved my 99's, Sonnett III, and 96-v-4. Great cars, able to drive in 4" of soft mud, or 12" of Snow, and out-corner a Camaro on Tarred Road Corners here in VT (in the mid 1980's). I Trusted every Saab that GM didn't Make that I owned, and two-yet, that GM made outa tin-scraps to Their Specs of Cheapness. Hint, GM, Frames Matter, as do Hull Thicknesses, and Heater Controls.. You're Daft, GM, just Foolish. Anyhow, The "99" was a Great, Robust, Quick, lively, very-very-Communitive and 'Feely' car, that "talked" back to the Driver every millisecond, and itv was because of that, Super Controllable, IF, you Spoke it's Lingo!!?! I did, and was blessed to find a Car that would Tell No Lies, while asking, 'What's Next"?.

I don´t think they limped away. they did the Talladega race with stock cars and no-one was able to replicate. Mercedes did it in secrecy and failed. Saab did it with journalists. They even did it twice.
