This is why I don't do collaborations much. That kind of mess is the main reason why.
I thought only the lyrics and melody were copyright protected. Guitar arrangements are not part of the lyrics or melody.
How did Michael Jackson deal with Eddie VanHalen and Steve Lukather and the solo of "Thriller?"
EVH did it for a case of beer so for free thats why Dave was pissed off about it !
@@christopherdunn317 Dave who?
I saw a video on how Judge Judy shows actually pays the people who go on her shows. Even though it is a great show I don't think it is quite the same as a real Court situation.
Might just be me but I'd love to see a step by step what should be done when releasing covers, parodies, new songs etc
This is why doing split sheets & collaborative contracts is important before you even start the music because of situations like this 😂, plus if they’re going to register it independently with the copyright office, they should both be present while applying for the metadata so there is no misunderstanding & if they cannot come to a agreement then the song gets scrapped & they go different way + do work with each other again 😂, sometimes you realize how childish these individuals become when it’s time to start splitting percentage for the work they conducted.
Can you do a video on when bands need to get a work visa when touring overseas? I started touring overseas and am unsure if I am breaking any rules by selling merchandise and charging tickets.
This was fun to watch, you should explain more of her judgements.
Nice made it right on time
Let's gooooo 🙌
Ringo and George didn't get rights to Lennon and Macca songs. It was the writers. Likewise, Jack Bruce and Felix got royalties to Cream songs, not Baker and Clapton. This is because they wrote a melody and lyric
A couple of Nobodies in the Christian Music scene, with an EP that will make less money than their appearance on TV.
If I had a nickel for every co-written song I've either contributed lyrics to, or music to or fully produced for singer-songwriters, I'd have a bag of nickels, I was never worried about copyright, credit etc... because 99.99% of the songs are only going to be listened to by family, immediate friends, co-workers and maybe someone that got lost on Spotify looking for some other song HAHAHA
If he has sole copyright to the words and melody and re-records the song using another guitarst to play a different guitar line and puts none of this guy's guitar on this new recording I'd say this guitarst has zero royalty claims.
Protip always be prepared to either play live in court or to pullup a session that only u should have
Congratulations on the success of your UA-cam channel, Top Music Attorney! I truly appreciate the valuable insights and education you provide about copyright laws for musicians. Your expertise is incredibly helpful for navigating the complex world of music rights. I'm curious, how would I go about obtaining the right to use the lyrics from a famous song by another musician? Thank you for sharing your knowledge and offering such a great resource!
Production is not songwriting. Arrangement is not songwriting. Songwriting is melody and lyrics. For example, Rob Grill re-recorded the song he'd sang on with the Grass Roots on a solo album. The original recording was uptempo, his new version was a slow ballad with a prominent piano and string section. He didn't suddenly take a co-writer credit for that! Guitar Man was written by David Gates, and Larry Knechtel developed and played the guitar solo. That solo is just part of arranging, not part of the songwriting.
Yes!! An example would be a studio musician who gets paid to play on someone's song. They get paid x number of dollars for creating their part of that song (a song they do not own). If the song goes on to make millions, the studio musician makes zero dollars, because they were paid up front and that's all the $$$ they will ever receive for that song.
Judge Judy don't mess around. Get to the point, get it done.
Nice hair girl
It's pretty cool ain't it
