I recently have had the same experience. Around the end of 2020 I had acquired some protogen parts to make a fursuit with, my interest grew fast and had alot of fun learning of how everyone else was making their own. I got into VRC and did the same with a model and did my own textures and had alot of fun. However as I never finished the fursuit and I graduated college I slowly became distant from the species as a whole. It felt like I was an imposter and that I was only doing it for a fad. I slowly started to make a new version of myself and recently finally got a refsheet made of them :D
I loved the video it was nice to see someone else had a similar experience.

Something sad about protogens is that they arent born with their armor and visors, but rather get them surgically implanted before they het conciousness.
You'd think they would have a normal snout below the visor and i really cant blame you for thinking that, however its not true. They get their snout cut off and flatened, so a mask is inserted that prevents them from any jaw movement, and breathing is supplied via tubes. Their eyes also get severely damaged in the process and they eyelids get premanently closed, with sight being artificially sent to their brains, food is also processed by the nanites that compose their visor, wich acts like a mouth. A protogen without its visor will die no matter what, either from infections, suffocation, blindness or malnutrition.
But yes, i can see how you came up with this idea, of them growing around the braces and absorbing or molding around them to become as they originally were.
Dont ask me how or why i memorised protogen lore, cuz i dont know either.

The music is from a game called Outer Wilds. Its a beautiful game and I would HIGHLY recommend not to spoil it for yourself. The most you need to know is its a space exploration/puzzle game I guess you could call it? But yeah please don't spoil the story for yourself, you'll thank me later.
