Markus. I don't care what you say or talk about, you're such a likable guy I just come in for the therapy of having you in the background while I edit my movies.
I think it is wonderful you give things away. I never enter giveaways, because I just buy it if I like it or need it. That is not true, sometimes I buy camera equipment I don't need, just because. You have saved me a lot of money over the time I have watched you, pointed me in the direction of good products, and taught me some cool techniques, especially with sound and lighting. I just wanted to say thank you, because I think people don't say that word enough.
Thanks, great review! This is Aircross 3 Lite in the video however, not Aircross 3. Lite has less than half of weight capacity of the regular version, so some full frame setups could be too much to use on this tripod
I was looking for a nice travel tripod and all I found was the typical brands like PD and stuff... And thank god I came across your video, that led me to this tripod. I have been looking for such a simple and really lightweight travel tripod and now I finally found it. I am sure it will do a great job. Looking foward to using it. Thanks again for that great review!
So glad you made this comparison vid. And also thanks for introducing this. The 3 version folding of the legs is my preference. Think my Gitzo tripod will be jealous now >_
V3 has 2 ball head options . V3 with the panoramic ball head folds backwards like V2 and is 14.37in and 2.07lbs. V3 with lite ball head is 15.74in and 1.78lbs.
Just for information I found out, I think currently they re label the names of these tripods. Fotopro X-Aircross 3 and Fotopro X-Aircross 3 LITE. In which Lite version refers to the one in this video as Fotopro X-Aircross 3. While Normal version refers to Fotopro X-Aircross 2 in this video.
Good information. Searching on a Chinese e-commerce website, I find that version 3 actually has two versions. What this video shows is the Lite version with a load capacity of 4 kg. The other version is similar to version 2 in terms of specs with a load capacity of 10 kg.
I received the tripod. The locking mechanism is a bit iffy. It works ok, but I have to struggle with it to pull the legs to the same length. It beats peak design in weight and price, build quality is not as good. It took 3 weeks to arrive. Thanks for the recommendation.
You just have to get used to it. Just make sure you turn the rubber base all the way so its locked or unlocked, that's all. I'll take it over Peak Design any day. I played with PD at the camera store and hate it for too many reasons. I am in love with this Fotopro. Hey I've been using that cheap 18 dollar Xit tripod that most people would laugh as for 15 years all over the world and taken thousands of amazing pictures and videos with.
Love these tripod videos. So, since I use an iphone, I've got 3 that are super compact. The middle one is a generic "Bluetooth Selfie Stick with Tripod." 15" at its smallest and 59" fully extended. 2.2 pounds. It can wobble due to its designsince it has a really long shaft, but as long as you're indoors, who cares? This completely fits in my backpack. $27 The next one is the UBeesize 67'' Phone Tripod Stand & Selfie Stick Tripod. So, 67" full extended, and 20" collapsed. It sticks out the backpack, but not really a big deal. I put it in my carry-on when I fly, but then put it in my backpack when I visit wineries. 1.89 pounds and $28. Similar to the first one in that it's basically all shaft so it can be wobbly. My original one is shorter at 54" (another generic "selfie stick tripod"). Not a big deal as I normally sit down for interviews. I bought the first one I mentioned specifically to be used if I'm standing along with any guests. This 3rd one is about 14" fully collapsed. This exact one is no longer available but there are others that look just like it. I don't know the actual weight, but I'd guess it's under 1.5 pounds. I paid $24 for it and similar ones are about the same. It also easily fits in my backpack. For many years my entire travel setup fit inside a backpack. Now I have a little bit more equipment. I use a carry-on bag for some of it. If I bring my larger lights, then the light stands need to be in my On-Stage bag (the same one you did a video on a while ago). I haven't done that set up if I have to fly, so I don't know how I'll do it. Probably in my checked luggage.
I use selfie stick stands for my Osmo action to film behind the scenes stuff. They're great for tiny cameras, but they shouldn't be more than 1 lb or you're getting into the same weight as the travel light stands or even the Aoka travel tripod I featured in the previous tripod video
I'm looking for a lightweight tripod for my heavy full frame body and lenses. This is lightweight and unique design. However, I wonder how strong are the locking mechanism of the legs. When I tested this out and lock the legs by turning it, it feels very fragile with a cracking sounds... Repeating the locking and unlocking of the legs, will this last for many years? Thanks for the answer
@@hikari_ray Well, you'd only buy those if you are a "professional" whose main business is photography. I was talking about it being expensive at $150 in relation to the average travel tripod on amazon, which is usually around $50. So, yes, it is a good deal if you are already invested into photography, but if you just wanted a tripod to take on a family vacation or something, then it's expensive compared to what you would usually find on amazon.
Just found your channel and this is a great review. Can I ask, in your opinion, which is the better version of the ball head? I can't decide between the two. Much apprecisted!
Hi Markus. I watched your videos for a while but this is the first time I comment. I just got my fotopro across lite 3, I wonder if you have any problems with that special locking mechanism with your tripod. I tried another tripod with same type locking mechanism and it failed just after a week of use; the last section couldn’t be tightened anymore. I afraid if this fotopro would have the problem. Thanks in advance.
Like I mentioned in your last video, I wasn't buying any gear at least fot 6 months. But now you have me looking into Tripods. I already checked out Fotopro, but seems like the latest version is not available yet in Mexico. But, while looking around, I found a Benro with the same system to extend the legs but with automatic leveling!! If I end up buying a tripod, it'd be your fault, and I'll name it after you :/
Yeah that Benro is getting hyped a lot but it's more expensive than any of the travel tripods I featured, weighs almost twice as much as the Fotopro, and part of that weight is the "auto-leveling" motors which I would not want because it ldoesn't level the head where the center of gravity is, but evels by shortening the legs on one side, which makes it highly unstable if you have a big heavy camera on there, it could fall over. A basic non-self-leveling version with a manual ball-head would be cheaper, lighter and more balanced.
Thank you markus does the ball head come off the v3 leaving a 1/4-20 or 3/8-16 thead? I like to add an arca swiss clamp to the trypod and an arca swiss plate to the bullhead making the bullhead removable. So switching between a fluid head, ball head or light post super easy. And also makes the storing length of the trypod shorter. So yeah would love to know it the ball head comes off the v3 or what thread is on the shaft if it is 5/8 there are adapters from 5/8 to 1/4 ...
Great video. The tripods are easy enough to find. Do you have any advise though on how to get the extension rods? Maybe a search term (fotopro carbon extension rod/shaft shows nothing)? You seem to get the one in the video from another tripod, no?

Hi Markus, I ordered the tripod. They send me an email saying follow your order. And that it was in my home town. That was on March 9th. There emails are very confusing. Are they waiting for us to pay the duty? Thank You
Again, I'm mentioning the MeFoto Backpacker Air since it's only 10 inches short when closed which must be a record and is very important for me since I need to carry the tripod inside my backpack when riding MTBs. But sure, the X-Aircrosses seem better built.
Yes but that 151 cm is with the center column fully extended which is really unstable and wobbly, especially with a heavy camera and lens on top. The actual tripod part is only 37 inches (95cm) which is just waist height, like the tiny Aoka I showed in the tripod video. They're ok for small lightweight stuff, but not serious cameras. and they weigh MORE than the Fotopro! But after 2 years I have learned how hard to twist the legs so it has come second nature for me and I feel that I can trust the thing now. I'll look into the Fotopro, it might be a step up from the Mefoto. 👍
