Hi everyone! Here is a link showing the location of the Saravoan Royal Palace Hotel: goo.gl/maps/nLHcQ2gkT79SCJA47. It's a solid choice but not located in our favourite area of Phnom Penh. The location didn't really matter for the purposes of this stay, but we'd prefer BKK1 if we were visiting Phnom Penh for leisure as opposed to apartment hunting!
I have used Agoda numerous times and in all but 2 cases I have found them quite reliable, the 2 issues that I have had with them were one at Kep, in you video on Kep you passed quite a big hotel, when I had arrived they had let my room and were very sorry but they had no where for me to stay, I told them that was their problem and not mine and as I have paid I intend to stay until they find a place for me, after an hour or so they cleaned out a room and I stayed there, the breakfast was awful nothing for a Westerner to eat. the other was in Thailand, it turned out it was in the Gay area and a Gay hotel, well there was I sign on the door saying that it had been closed down by the police, so I hunted around and found somewhere else. In PP I now stay at the Hotel Zing A noisy area but a nice hotel quite cheap, very good value and quite close to the train. David
Haha sounds like you had a couple of 'interesting' experiences there! We have used Agoda a lot as well and have never had an issue. We tend to use Booking.com a bit more these days as they have had some good deals. I'll always check both before making a reservation, though. There's so much choice in Phnom Penh that it can be a bit overwhelming, so we like to filter it right down to very specific requirements, then there's usually only 10 or so left to consider. Thanks so much for watching. 🏠🏠🏠
I’ve never booked on line and have traveled all over South East Asia for many years . I arrive at the destination and there’s always a large choice of hotels. I always ask to see the room before I pay any money. If the room is not what your looking for then go somewhere else . Most hotels will do you a deal .
That's really great! I enjoy the online searching and booking process, and we usually book the first night like that, then if we intend to stay longer, we ask for a deal directly with the hotel. We got a great deal in Kep that way. 🏠🏠🏠
I most of the time book online. Than I see if I like the hotel. If I like I book longer, sometimes it is sti cheaper to book online than to deal with the reception.
Some times the Hotel can't even come near the price listed on Agoda or Booking.com. We book the first night and go from there, saved hundreds doing it this way.
Typical Cambodian concrete everywhere and love the bath. Even before covid hotels in Cambodia opened and shut all the time, wondering what hotels are still open? Though I will be staying with a friend who has a hotel when I go back. Hopefully very soon.
Yeah, there are new ones opening all the time. There are also ghost hotels that are still showing as bookable online but no reviews since 2019..... I hope you can get back soon! 🏠🏠🏠
I always stay at the Billabong very close to central market walking distance has a pool very cool owners and a great relaxed place to stay, stayed there six years in a row before heading off down to snookie and Kampot. I work in the hotel industry and I would never use a booking site very very hard to get a refund so I always go direct to the hotel just as Covid hit I’ve booked A billabong room and then found out no insurance for Covid and all the other problems and Billabong refunded my money immediately no questions asked recommend Billabong Phnom Penh
That's fantastic. I just checked them out online and they have great reviews. Any hotel that treats people well when they need to cancel and seek a refund deserves support. Thank you so much for sharing - I hope others will check out Billabong when they visit. Here's a link: www.agoda.com/billabong-hostel_2/hotel/phnom-penh-kh.html
wow, that was a great video, I love watching videos that help my great imagination temporarily bring me to Cambodia while I watch them, I think that I will definitely be staying at that Saravoan Royal Palace Hotel some day, it looks very new and in great condition, great job.
Thanks so much! It was a really lovely hotel and we enjoyed staying there very much. It's easy to walk to the riverside, and I like that it's tucked away down that little alley. I also liked that the room was cool and dark - I think you need that escape from the sun and heat outside in Phnom Penh.
I don't think that's a problem here, at least in the bigger places that see a lot of foreigners. Possibly an issue in small places in the provinces, but I'm not sure.
So bored with these blogs so something original most people who visit Pp already know what to do I've been visiting Cambodia for 20 years walk around and check yourself that's my advice
You don't have to watch them if you find them boring! It's a bit of fun and not to be taken seriously. Of course everyone knows how to use an online booking site if that's their preference. 😁
That's kinda the point, to show people different options. Saves people walking around to places they don't like the look of, plus every view is a donation towards helping the Cambodian people. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I think the last bath I had was in 2019 in Malaysia at a hotel, sort of wish I had access to one now, really nice when you are sore, but I don't use them often. Looks like a really nice room.
In regards to hotels, I also use Agoda, it is amazing some really great deals I found. As an example on Friday I will be staying at the Phuminh River Side hotel, a 4 stars in a double superior room with balcony overlooking the river with an infinity pool on the roof for 25 USD a night. Amazing deals at the moment 🥰.
That's a fantastic deal! I find the process of searching online quite fun, too. I really like looking at google maps and seeing what's around in the different areas. 😀🙏
Some of the sales are insane. We stayed at a 5 star hotel and booked through Agoda. It was amazing, so we asked if they could match the rate and they said they couldn't come close. They actually said to book it through Agoda and we wouldn't have to even move rooms.
Nice big room, good deal. I have stayed in $30 hotels close to the river, which is nice for walking. Many hotels seem to resent the online booking agents, especially in Europe, reserving their worst room for online clients. Most places provided a better room at the same price if you asked. Keep well in PP.
We thought it was a great deal. The breakfast was limited but it was enough to set you up for the morning. We have sometimes found cheaper prices by going direct to the hotel, and at other times, the hotel has said they cannot match the online offer and advised us to book online from their lobby! 🏠🏠🏠
@@ForRiel some hotels asked me to cancel my online booking at check in. It has gotten significantly hotter in Kampot this last week, hope PP is not too stifling.
Always enjoy your pleasant commentary. I’m looking to move to Phenom pen, wondering if you will be doing a segment on what parts of the city are best/easier places to live?

Excellent tips on how to find a hotel. Several years ago I booked three hotels using similar search technique as yours. One place we stayed at in PP was the Point Boutique hotel. They had a "sale" and we were able to get the king upgrade room for around $40, included breakfast. It was a nice little hotel, close to everything around the river front. it's not far from your Saravoan hotel. Another hotel we stayed at when we came back from Siem Reap was the Dyvith hotel. It was brand new, very clean, awesome breakfast but very far from downtown. It took around 45 minutes tuk tuk ride to downtown during the rush hour traffic. As a new hotel, it had some growing pains. The staff was not all familiar with every features, although they were very helpful and tried their best. We had to switch rooms due to our first room was at the far end of the hotel where the wifi signal was weak. Location is very important. When we go back, we will stay closer to the middle of town, near the river front (premium rates) or near the royal palace. Hope you guys have fun in PP. We miss it very much.
I love a deal that includes breakfast! It just feels wrong to stay at a hotel then have to go out to find food in the morning. I haven't heard of the Dyvith hotel but being so far away from town is strange in a place as small as Siem Reap. My favourite hotel of all the ones in Siem Reap is the Borei. It's 5 star but 100% worth whatever you have to pay to stay there. We enjoyed the Baitong in Phnom Penh - fantastic area, but the hotel was a little over-hyped, I think. Thanks so much for watching. 😀🙏
Great video. The 2 things that is stopping me from going to Canbodia right now is no long stay visas and the quarentine hotels are all over $160, (in my research). I wish there was a better selection of hotels to do the quarentine in. A Q hotels in Siem Reap would be nice but need to open the airport. Oh well, still waiting.
Thanks so much AiA! I have seen Facebook posts from travel agents claiming to be able to convert a tourist visa to an E visa with a biz extension. One of these travel agents I know to be legitimate as she did our extensions while we were in Kampot. You are right about the quarantine hotels, and they are definitely not worth the kind of dollars that they are asking. I think things will improve in the next couple of months! 🏠🏠🏠

OMG...our last trip back to see our family and holiday we stayed 3 nights at Saravoan...our room curtains opened up to a wall about a metre away. The room was fine, but the no door to the bathroom was not fine at all...come on guys...the courtyard was brilliant and you just have to love the breakfasts at these hotels!! We moved there from 4 nights at OK..our room there was HUGE and looked directly over the museum and palace (they got away with that somehow)..OK had the best breakfast selection anywhere we've seen..even for my Cambodian wife!! Then around the corner to a place with along pool..forget the name .. totally awesome. Huge rooms. Private garden or pool views...sigh...missing PP and our family really badly now. But thanks for the memory!! And Daun Penh rocks!! BKK1 is a bit flash :)
That is such a crazy coincidence! Saravoan is really nice, and I loved that it was always dark and cool, some would say den-like, inside the room. The curtain was a bit silly and they could have easily attached a sliding door on the outside, but we were only there the two nights so weren't too worried. We're living in TTP on one of the corners opposite Russian Market and we love it here. BKK1 is super fancy, I agree. If you get hit by a car there, it's likely to be a Bentley or a Hummer. Duan Penh is not surviving Covid gracefully at all. That part of town is looking very haggard right now. Thanks for sharing!
You could definitely find an apartment for that kind of money in Siem Reap or Kampot, and the general cost of living is also lower in those places. If you were able to find one for that price in Phnom Penh you would be a long way from the fun areas. I'd say 9 out of 10 apartments advertised are fully furnished in Cambodia. You could get by on $1000 a month, and plenty of people do. Hope that helps!
Excellent, as usual! Thanks for posting. Hotel looks pretty dreamy! For me, the other big variable for PP hotels is location. I like to stay where I can walk to cafes, restos, bars & many times lower price hotels have less convenient locations. My PP default hotel is the cheap but very basic Golden Gate in Street 278. Agoda: I have used them a lot over the years & have NEVER had a problem. I like them a lot.
Golden Gate looks like a great choice and the location is fantastic - love that area. I want to try Patio Hotel as it is right in the middle of the lanes with the cute restaurants! I agree with you re Agoda. We have used them extensively and never had an issue. 🏠🏠🏠
Nice hotel review Jeremy & Claire even I could fit in TUB LOL 😂😂 great entrance thou would love to give a home stay ago nothing like meeting & living with The locals. Thanks for your updates.
You have excellent taste. I think I will stay here until I decide where to live; which probably won't be Phnom Penh which is too big, too noisy, and too expensive. Besides, I want a dog and a good place to fish. So, I will probably be looking for a house located in a less populace location. What do you think?
I think you could find exactly what you are looking for in Kampot. It's only 3ish hours from Phnom Penh so it is easy to visit when you need to as well. 😁
@@ForRiel Thank you very much. I shall find a guide and visit Kampot. If I can find a nice house at a good price, I will make it my home. What is a "nice house"? One with air-con, a fenced yard (for the dog), and few, if any, local creatures, As always, the deal is everything. 😁
Booked this hotel for week when I return next June. What street is that entrance on, it's just very unclear on maps. Like to know where I'm going so the tuk tuk doesn't take me on a mystery tour 😂
Hi Guys, I finally made to Cambodia, I am presently at the Sokha hotel in quarantine. There's an important change that's is not yet in the foreign ministry web site or other places in regards to the PCR test. Previously the rule was that you needed to take it 72 hours prior to departure, now it is 72 hours to arrival, it makes a huge difference. I got refuse boarding in Vancouver to Seoul as I would have arrived in Phnom Penh 77 hrs after taking the test. So, I had to stay overnight in Vancouver, re-do the PCR test and book another flight. I tend to believe that it might be a translation mistake but the airlines apply it.
Oh no, that's terrible. I am glad you were able to sort it and get on a flight the next day. One little word makes such a big difference, and really cuts down the time you have available to have the test and get the result. I hope you are relaxing in the Sokha - did you book that one, or did you just land there after a ride on the mystery bus?
@@ForRiel I had a booking with the Phuminh hotel but it wasn't accepted as it wasn't on the official list. So, yes I got to ride the mistery bus fortunately there was another Canadian that went through that before so he knew the process. The Phuminh hotel are really great, I was booked for 5 days with no refund but they just told me that the will honor my reservation on Friday minus that night that I got stuck in Vancouver.
Hi Peter, yeah definitely geared to the first time traveller. Most returning visitors seem to have their favourite places and stay there each time. Thank you for watching. 🏠🏠🏠
We've been checking the airfares from Minnesota for this coming new year and it's around $1,250 each per round trip. Can't wait to see our relatives in PP. Great location with great deal and it's only a few blocks from the riverfront. Enjoy your stay and great updates as always. Cheers!
That seems like a pretty good price for a round trip. Is it usually cheaper than that? I think the area around the riverfront is past its best and is looking pretty shabby these days. A lot of the tourist/expat bars are shut, but maybe they will reopen once the tourists return. Thanks so much for supporting us. 🏠🏠🏠
Sorry, Erik I don't know. I thought you had to fly into Sihanoukville from outside of Cambodia but am not sure. There hasn't been a lot of detail about this since the initial announcement was made.
hold up . . . . weren't you and Jeremy in Kampot ? . . . . . be honest are you in witness protection and have some horrible people after you? Drug deal gone wrong ?
@@ForRiel Ha Ha is he on the run . . . . my God . . . i'm only just catching up on the Kampot/Kep videos and Jeremy has bolted again . . . . how much does he owe ?
Borders are not fully open yet, but I think that will change in the next couple of months. The population is very close to fully vaccinated here and as such, the Covid cases are much less severe. They have actually scaled back testing as now the focus is just on reaching and maintaining herd immunity. Masks are still compulsory when you are out and about in Phnom Penh, but I think it is stricter here than in the provinces. All in all things are very good! 🏠🏠🏠
@@ForRiel Some times I have a few drinks while watching your videos, and get a little flirtatious. Go to Larry's bar and grill on street 110, he has awesome cheese burgers :)
The K-Visa has an option to stay at government-designated facilities for free of charge or to opt out staying with designated hotels at your own expenses.
@@KhmerMinnesnowta When you say "government facility" is it a hotel or some closet with a just a sleeping bag? From what I'm aware of there's only 5 designated hotels for quarantine which are all quite fabulous.

If you were able to find one for that price in Phnom Penh you would be a long way from the fun areas. I'd say 9 out of 10 apartments advertised are fully furnished in Cambodia. You could get by on $1000 a month, and plenty of people do. Hope that helps!
Cambodia is my first choice in Southeast Asia , rich culture, delicious food , friendly people and nice places
Cambodia is a wonderful place and the longer we are here, the more we appreciate the little things about it.
Lovely hotel. Great video!
Thanks so much Richard! 🏠🏠🏠
That bath was massive! I liked the room a lot and the courtyard setting was very pretty. 🏠🏠🏠
Wonderful - you won't be disappointed and you will LOVE that nice cool room in June. The entrance is on Preah Ang Makhak Vann St. (178).
Good deal with breakfast. P.P. has some value I hotels and look forward to going back.
It really does! If we weren't looking for a big room to dump all of our stuff there were countless other options, all of a similar standard. 🏠🏠🏠
Hi Guys,
I finally made to Cambodia, I am presently at the Sokha hotel in quarantine.
Very helpful for the first time traveller to Cambodia. Thx
@@ForRiel It was between $800 to $1,000 and depending on the time of the year. The best time for the prices is after the new year. Can't wait!
Hey for riel, do you know any hotels that has a microwave in the room?
I reckon you'd probably need to look for a short stay apartment if you want a microwave. Maybe an Air BnB would be the best way to find that. 🏠🏠🏠
Any who know how to get from Phnom Penh Airport to Sihanoukville under sandbox condition!
Sorry, Erik I don't know. I thought you had to fly into Sihanoukville from outside of Cambodia but am not sure. There hasn't been a lot of detail about this since the initial announcement was made.
@@ForRiel thank you, i will try to find out
Good to know. Will be heading to PP early/mid next year
Nice! It's a great city and we are really enjoying our time here.
hold up . . . . weren't you and Jeremy in Kampot ? . . . . .
be honest are you in witness protection and have some horrible people after you?
Drug deal gone wrong ?
Haha yeah, we like to move around! Maybe Jeremy is actually Mr Idol! 🏠🏠🏠
@@ForRiel Ha Ha is he on the run . . . . my God . . .
i'm only just catching up on the Kampot/Kep videos and Jeremy has bolted again . . . . how much does he owe ?
@@boxingmonkey2450 I think he took off in a clapped out Camry...
is the border open and how is the pandemic situation there
Borders are not fully open yet, but I think that will change in the next couple of months. 🏠🏠🏠
Have you done a video on your new apaaahhhment yet?
Nah, but we'll get to it at some stage. It's far and away the fanciest place we have lived in so far! 🏠🏠🏠
that looks a very quiet hotel great vlog 👍👌
It was cool, quiet and shady - perfect! 🏠🏠🏠

I'm not sure what to say..... 😀🙏
@@ForRiel Some times I have a few drinks while watching your videos, and get a little flirtatious. Go to Larry's bar and grill on street 110, he has awesome cheese burgers :)
I understand that nationals with k visa its free by the governnent
Do you mean for quarantine when coming into Cambodia? If so, yes, that's what I understand as well.
@@guybuddyfriend7430 Government facilities are including upgraded public schools. They have the shared rooms with shower and toilet. Also, when schools are running out, they will sent them to one of those designated hotels. One of my relatives was sent to Sofitel Hotel for free of charge. Again, these are for the Khmer in abroad or Locals who have K-Visa only!
@@KhmerMinnesnowta im flying tomorrow, I hope its not a shitty school.
:32 I see someone likes to partake in a nice brew at Embargo... Let me know if you want to have a drink at some point!
Love that area and Embargo was fun! Yes, let's have a beer! 🏠🏠🏠
