Cool informative videos on your channel. Also, glad you switch up your video intro. WAYYYYYYYYY better.
Thank you! I like my old intro, it just was too long for my current style. :)
I’ve had three different eye doctors over the years (I’ve lived in different areas) tell me I absolutely SHOULD NOT get LASIK because my vision is too bad. They would need to remove too much tissue from my eye. One even went so far as to say I would pretty much be guaranteed to get cataracts in my 60s or 70s. I haven’t asked about PRK, which is an older, similar operation. I wear contacts, and I’m fine with that. I’m a bit squeamish about surgery near my eyes - and since it’s your eyes you probably have to be awake for it. You did mention that the suction was uncomfortable but not much worse than sleeping with contacts. I do also have an online friend who had to get glasses again about 3-4 years after she had LASIK, so even though she’ll never admit it, I think the surgery was a waste of money for her.
I had one eye doctor tell me that in a few years they will likely have implantable lenses and that would be a better bet for me. But that still sounds like a scary operation with ample opportunity for screw ups. :(
Are things still looking good for you?
Ahhh, yeah, definitely not worth it for you to get LASIK, then!
I have reading glasses that are VERY minor (I don't notice a difference, but my doctor says they'll prevent eye strain), but I'm now almost 6 months out from my surgery and my distance vision is perfect!
Happy 4th of July kym!
Thank you!! I hope you had a good one!
Oh your hair looks very nice!
Thank you!
They're not really changing the shape of your eye, as you say. Instead they make 4 to 8 incisions with a laser, which then refracts the light onto the retina correctly, just like glasses do (but without the glasses). Before surgery some people have too short or too long a distance between the cornea and retina, which then causes farsightedness or nearsightedness. Eyes should be shaped like a basketball, but some are more like a football. Glassesn or RK, PRK, or LASIK make incisions to refract the light correctly onto the retina. This hopefully gets the visual acuity to 20/20 or better (e.g. 20/04 would be totally outstanding!).
Andrew G. Bernhardt I feel like I explained most of this in the video. And making incisions changes the shape of the eye haha
@ munchkym ur hair looks sooo pretty in this video. Even though ur not a natural redhead
J V This was shortly after a dye job. Videos like this are why it blows my mind people don’t get it’s dyed 😅
I want to get my mom lasik and this was really helpful love how In depth your videos are 🌼!
Justin Land Thank you, I’m so glad! I hope it goes well for her! :)
Thanks. Been thinking about this anyway. ;)
Brian Young Nice! It’s been great for me!
I absolutely hate anything or anyone near my eyes..it would totally freak me out X's 100
Mark Rogers Haha I get that! It was weird, for sure!
Thanks for the information kym. By the way, you look awesome!.
elvis navarro Thanks!
I’m glad I don’t need glasses and still have 20/20 vision. I’m sure one day that will change. Stay safe out there.
You're very lucky! And thanks! :)
Wow. I don’t need the surgery but I feel way more educated. Thanks.
chief keef Yay, glad it was educational! :)
I DON’T RECOMMEND LASER EYE SURGERY.... look up corneal ectasia. I was told that I was the best candidate. Got it done and it was great, BUT for only 7 years then my vision kept getting more and more blurry. Now if I want to see I have to wear custom HARD contacts that cost $1800+ a pair.
Also even if you don’t end up with the same problem like me then you will still have to wear reading glasses when your older.
To answer a head of time... NO I couldn’t sue for medical malpractice because there is a statue of limitations... just 2 years.
That is very unfortunate! I hope that the process has improved since then. Most people are very happy with their surgery.
Noooope I hate eye-stuff, yet I still watched :p But I'm glad it went so well for you!
The eye-dilation thing is the worst; every year I go to the eye doctor and I forget how it is so I just leave, but then I can't even read my phone or the bus signs so I just end up stuck, helpless in the middle of London for 15 minutes. Every. Time. :p
WaistHighView Hahah yeah it was so weird for me! Since I drove and my distance vision was fine, I drove back. But I couldn’t see my GPS! Luckily I knew generally where I was going haha
Hi Kym
Hi
That surgery is very expensive!!!!!
Albert Taylor Definitely! The US is overpriced.
munchkym yeah it is. I would like to have that surgery, but I would have to save money during at least a year.
Yeah, absolutely! I had to prepare for a while as well.
I am a month out from my LASIK surgery date and kind of nervous. I want to have it done because both my eyes are -300 so for basically everything but reading I need my glasses, driving watching TV, ect... but I hate the idea of surgery, they said I am a pretty perfect candidate, and I have a doctor who has traveled the world doing it and has a very nice update facility which is all great buuuuut, yeah, I'm not worried about the laser, this place uses a metal clamp to keep the eye open which is a little disconcerting but probably better that tape. What did they use for 'suction'? for the eye flap?
I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner! Did you have your LASIK? Did it go well?
Didn't have lasik but did have cataract surgery 3yrs ago and can see again was no problem. Both procedures were 15mins. A piece 90 days apart.
That's a retractor to hold it open and stop bliking.
Still need readers because would t pay for the lens that are also for astyigm
robert treadaway Yeah, makes sense. Glad it was helpful for you!
Thank you for this topic and all the Uber / Lyft helpful hint. I’ve been thinking about getting laser surgery. Saving ride money to pay for it. Can you give an update on eyesight in 30 days?
Jack B I’m not sure I’ll want to do a video, but email me around July 7th and that’ll be one month!
I had PRK Lasik, where they just took off my cornea. They had to due to a medical condition we were trying to heal. I got half of mine covered by medical insurance, so I paid around $1800.
PRK is much more painful. It was a month of wearing goggles and being unable to see. I was mostly bedridden.
BUT. Three years later, no regrets. It cured my eye condition and I've had absolutely no problems. The initial pain sucked but Codine helped ;)
Gil Aly Allen My doctor asked if I wanted to do PRK! I play a full contact sport so I’m more at risk, but I didn’t want the extra recovery time. I’m glad it’s been so good!
Is that a vintage Timex running watch? Looks rad.
Daniel Lopez My watch is a super average $10 digital watch from Target haha
Thanks. I've been thinking about doing this. I never wore contacts and I don't think this is for me. I never knew what the 20/20 meant though. Haha thanks
Benjamin Porter Yeah, it’s not for everyone. Glad I could teach you something new! :)
My wife loves not needing glasses anymore. I hope you enjoy it too. Also, did you edit this video's color saturation, or add lighting, or did you just go really dark with the red dye? It looks good whatever you did.
Your Personal Driver Yeah, I’m loving it so far! I didn’t change the video’s color, it was just time for a dye update! It’s the same dye I always do, this was just the day after dyeing so it’s extra bright and I only dye every 2-3 months so it fades quite a bit.
So did you use the money you were saving for your Euro trip for the surgery?
I went to Europe as well! I've got another full-time job so I've been able to set things aside (and completely pretend my student loans don't exist :P )
Omg!! So informative but cringeworthy! You have lots of charisma 🤗👌👀
Haha thanks!
Yeeeeeeah. I’ll keep my glasses.
fultonandlatrobe Haha totally do what’s best for you!
munchkym always do!! Like watching you!!
Thank you!!
I had Lasik back in 2012, it was the best decision ever, took 5 to 10 mins to restore my shitty eyes to perfect vision.
Now will you marry me ?
Oh jeez this comment was totally not weird and then you had to go and propose!
I would literally listen to this woman explain the science of paint drying. I just love her personality LOL
Something Clever Haha thank you! :)
How much work is your hair (trivial I know, but I don't need Lasik)? The result is gorgeous! 😊 ...but it looks thick and difficult to begin with 😳
MIA-FTL Rideshare Thank you, and totally a fine question! My hair is really thick and I actually have an undercut, which helps manage it but it’s still a lot. Since it’s naturally wavy (curly when short), I can’t brush it when it’s dry or it gets fluffy so I brush it in the shower. Also I dye it every 2-3 months so it’s nice and bright like in this video. :)
I like your video👍👍👍
doniyorbek sotvoldiev Thanks!
Hey qq so i have an uber account how do i sing up to drive thru the uber drive app or the uber app.
Ronel Brown Hey! You should click the links in the description about it and sign up there or you can download the Uber Driver app! Email me if you have issues munchkym@gmail.com
I’ll keep my glasses... The price just floored me. I was seriously thinking of it years back but... I’d rather eat my sushi and wear glasses than put out for that price.
remedywithin I totally get that! It is a calculated cost for everyone. I came into some money so it was either this or paying off more student loans so I felt this was a more valuable cost. :)
Why am I watching this??? You need to branch out, you are too good to just do ride-sharing videos. Good stuff.
Well, thank you!! I am trying to branch out, for sure! :)
Damn
Catching Zzs Right.
Your hair is so flippen gorgeous! Do you have a secret for keeping it all tamed? I'm growing mine out and we've got similar hair types but I can't keep mine tamed at all.
UnfortunateFreakNo1 Thank you!! My secret is brushing it in the shower with conditioner. I also have an undercut so it’s less likely to tangle cause some is missing haha
munchkym aah, an undercut! Genius!
Thanks!! :D
The whites of your eyes are called ‘the sclera’. I was an early candidate for a LASIK study at Duke University for $40.00. I had scheduled surgery and all, but had to cancel because shortly before the procedure I developed iritis which is an inflammation of the iris. Turned out this was a symptom of an autoimmune disease, so I could never get LASIK. Although your cornea heals very quickly, if you have an autoimmune disease there’s always a possibility that you’ll need to take a steroid to reduce inflammation. This in turn suppresses healing of your corneas, so no LASIK for you! At least I have cataract surgery to look forward to, so they can correct my vision then.
Ziggy Stardog Wow, that’s crazy! Though, perhaps it’s changed cause I was prescribed a steroid and an anti-inflammatory before the procedure?
Munchkym, yep these are still contraindications: pregnancy, and certain medications like some Acne medication because they affect vision; and collagen vascular disease (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis), autoimmune disease (e.g., lupus), or immunodeficiency disease (e.g., AIDS), because they affect the body’s ability to heal.
Two eye fun facts (correct me if wrong): Only place on the body with visible capillary veins are the eyes and only part of the body that doesn't grow from birth.
UTSB I don’t know whether those are true so I’m gonna take your word for it!
OK I learned something: ..."The eyes are also about a third of their final size at birth, but they grow faster and at six months are already two-thirds of their adult size"
Not a fun fact at all
I was misinformed. The capillary thing I read so who knows if that's true.
Was it painful, the first 2 minutes sounded like some weird demonic fetish...
Just answered my own question, very sorry
Not sure how you answered your own question... Not really painful, no.
Damn you were blind. My vision last time I checked (6 yrs ago) was 20/40.
TSBilliards86 Haha yeah, it was bad. My dad is legally blind so this was also a bit preventative for me. I figure if I fix it now, maybe the deterioration in the future will be less.
It's not smart to donate glasses. Wearing others prescription can make your vision worse.
Brian Joslyn You donate to companies that get them to people who need them and fit them with the correct prescription. And wrong glasses is still better than no glasses to someone who needs them.
But the chances of someone needing glasses compared to what has been donated not matching is extremely high. I'd much rather donate money to be used for the purchase of a proper eye exam, frames and lenses.
Im waiting until I can have smartphone cameras implanted into my eyes.
Luscious Baphomet Hahah good idea, hold out for the best.
munchkym lol :) its coming. Elon Musk is already talking about developing brain stem implants that can connect us to the internet via bluetooth.
munchkym and then theres this, which i think is super cool. ua-cam.com/video/ZR6Onwg8wyQ/v-deo.html
Fascinating!
Also, FYI, I've deleted your comment toward the other commenter. Please do not abuse other people. There is no reason for such intense personal attacks. Please remember that we are all people and you can disagree with someone or even tell them their opinion is ridiculous without being impolite.
Are you a Pisces?
Nope.
I'm really bad on guessing. You're one lovely munchkin though. Be safe driving.
Steroid, next great excise for athletes 😋 got Lasik done and the lotion contained it!!! Haha.
Joseph f Haha eye drops, but yeah! I’m way buff now.
? no longer a rider share channel?
Still rideshare, but also other topics as I feel inspired to create! Lots of people watch my videos who don't rideshare and I mostly just love making videos. So expect more rideshare for sure, but that won't be all there is. :)
You are super cute
Thanks!
💝💝💝💋💋💋👍👍👍
Haha hello!
My wifey.
Uhh not last I checked :P
munchkym Yes, just check. We were happily married on the 4th of July. So our marriage anniversary is 7/4/2018. We are working towards children right now, preferably twins, & daughters.
creep. lol
I am against all surgical procedure
You sound like paid agent for such businesses.
Abideen Turky عابدین ترکی Hahah if anyone ever wants to pay me to make a video, they can contact me. But it would be so clear it’s paid cause I would say it.
Also against all surgical procedure? That’s very extreme.
munchkym
I mean , elective non essential procedures.
Because it is against gone art of nature. Crude, cruel human being can not substitute work of nature.
I full 100% support science and people desire to improve their lives with it.
I am sorry that you have gone wrong with defination of science.
Let me define science:
Science is study of laws of nature, and harnessing it to produce a tool.
"But any tool is not beneficial"
Gun is produced by science, but can be abused,
Pharmaceuticals are perfect work of science, but are the most lethal weapons of mass disease producers, only benefits Bell Gate &Warner Heisenberg Mega Corporates, and Tax Suckers.
So,please do not blindly follow science, which is abused as biggest fraud of Time.
"The debate should not be taken as volation of personal respect"
Your Personal Driver I’m with you. Nothing cruel about improving your life. And I don’t believe in god so playing god doesn’t bother me haha
