June 27 Christopher Ward

Today, June 27, is the birthday of Christopher David Ward. He would be 40 but died in 2021 in the line of duty while responding to a welfare check. A loving husband and father, Chris was taken from his wife & high school sweetheart and their 2 daughters, the youngest just 5. He loved the outdoors whether hunting, fishing, or just being.
Chris was an 8-year law enforcement veteran, the son of a local minister, an active member of his church, and a helpful, respected member of the community. Citizens who interacted with him recalled an officer who went above and beyond to serve their needs, a good guy, a sweet soul. He is now memorialized in his home…in addition to his prized trophy deer are photos, teddy bears made from his uniforms, necklaces with thumbprint pendants and more.
Tunnels to Towers paid off the mortgage for Chris’ wife allowing her family to remain in the home they bought together and giving her the freedom to spend time with their daughters and heal. The foundation was established following 9/11 and provides housing for homeless veterans and pays off mortgages for the families of fallen heroes. For more info: www.t2t.org
Christopher and another officer were ambushed while checking on the parents of the shooter who had not shown up for work that morning and were not responding to phone calls or messages. The killer, known to have a large weapons cache and reportedly suffering from a declining mental state for some time, attacked his father with a knife two days before the shooting. He killed 2 police officers, his mother, step-father, and engaged in a 13-hour standoff with police before taking his own life.
