I was there 2, once on a wine tasting tour in 75' don't remember much after the 2nd or 3rd stop. I went back with my family in 84' and we had a great time all without bikes though. Now that I am retired you got me thinking of a bike tour... thanks for the memories!
I sure hope you and others that watch this video will consider doing what we did. There is so much to see and do in this area that long tours or multiple tours are certainly warranted. Thanks for watching and start making some plans, Edwin!
Thanks, Sylvia! The e-assist allowed us to see scenery we might otherwise not have. It was still us pedaling all the way just a bit faster and stronger.
For me, anyway, the Scorpion Plus seems like a more desirable trike configuration because you sit 22 1/2 inches up off the ground. I do not think your progress is slowed down that much by the higher pedaling profile that has you sitting more upright as well. The TRIOT trikes also do. The Rover also does and less lengthy distances are OK with that model. You do want to be readily seen by vehicle drivers and the sooner the better. A ride like this one avoids street traffic, but I don't see the need to be so low and so leaned back. The late James Dobson ended up disliking his suspension and threw away the front fenders that chattered and kept on breaking.
Hurry up and wait is the standard for even small bike tours. The itinerary itself is the primary cause. The limiting factor of any chain is its weakest link. Everything from a slow pedaler to a rider who continually needs to find a restroom can be trying. Tours requiring the travelling of medium or long distances must have participants capable of attaining those objectives.
The one incident when the rider lost his cellphone is both indicative of what can happen and puzzling about what physical circumstance is responsible for it happening in the first place. Was a device holding it inadequate or was it just human error knocking it loose from its holder? Or was it something else altogether?
Sure wish I had been able to go with you guys! I only have a little over a month left here in Germany, I will most definitely miss riding the beautiful bike trails over here. But I will be back one day I hope to ride them again. I Love the video!!
We would have enjoyed your company on this ride for sure. You have clearly taken full advantage of your biking time over there so you should have no regrets, Ed. Thanks for watching!
The benefits are those of any other aerobic exercise. Cardiovascular improvements and muscle strength. The apparent aerobellies are due to the camera angles, of course 😊
God! Did I put weight on or what ;) :D Nice video, Gary. Enjoyed the memory. And thank you for showing everybody what a wimp I am laying there like roadkill :D
Who was the one screaming " ice cream!"? You were a huge part of making this trip so much fun. Like when you were lying in the street pretending to have leg cramps. You just kill me!
There is something to be said about how recumbent cycling represents a solution for losing weight, but often times is not taken advantage of for that end. It is arguably an abused freedom or opportunity. "The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak". Wine tasting. Cheese tasting. Comfort foods with soda etc. It has become an armchair on wheels more than it is utilized as a mechanism for proactive change in terms of losing weight and improving one's cardiovascular capacity and overall health.
Hi Gary. What a gorgeous route! I used to have an M5. Now I'm thinking of either a Scorpion fs20 or a speedmachine for touring. If you can recall, absent the e-assist was there a significant speed difference between trike and bike please? With love, Ken
Thanks for watching! There is no doubt that either of the two bikes would be faster that either of our two trikes on this tour. But for practical purposes it really depends on the type of ride one is on. For touring like this we all stick together and there is really no advantage to having a faster bike. For faster solo touring or quick and nimble commuting, etc. perhaps the two wheelers would make more sense. Add in the e-assist on the trike and that eliminates any speed differential very quickly😄
Wow, what a lovely ride! Thanks so much, Gary! I could only dream that Amtrak would be as trike friendly. Did your e-assist batteries hold up? They'd seem to be "the business" for geezers like me who still want to get mileage.

Nice, loved the video. The scenery and that e-assist looks fantastic.

A gift that keeps on giving China 🦠🦠🦠🦠🦠🦠🦠
The only think I dislike about triking our bellies look bigger and some people think we are disabled 🇺🇸
Hmm, can't get a trike on a train in the UK.

Those canal side trails are superb.
That beer must be terrific.

That was my wife and it was very much human error 🤐

Thanks for the information, this was a great tour thanks.
Everyone is so fat. What are the true health benefits of recumbent biking?
The benefits are those of any other aerobic exercise. Cardiovascular improvements and muscle strength. The apparent aerobellies are due to the camera angles, of course 😊
You bring up a valid point.
Calories burned must be greater than calories consumed.
KWB gives hope to those of us who are not so slim.
That looked like great fun Gary👍 I'm sure I saw a velomobile in there somewhere🤔😂

We were happy to take whatever HP Velotechnik offered us but it turned out these assisted Scorpions were just there right choice. Thanks for watching!
Too much! What an ideal venue.
Most enjoyable video to watch thank you...
I'm so glad you enjoyed it, leons FPV! Thanks for watching😊
what tools do you care on the rides with you in case you brake down.
We carried a frame pump, multi-tool, tire patch kit, tire irons and that's about it😎
Breakdown.
mega super departure
I greet bikers
This is really great Gary!
Thanks Johnny! It sure was a fun trip and my first extensive use of e-assist.
This is sublime.
Thank you, Robert!
Очень приятно было посмотреть. Хочу , чтобы такие путешествия стали возможны в моем родном Донбассе.
Спасибо за просмотр видео! Я надеюсь, что вы когда-нибудь сможете отправиться в такое путешествие: ^)
Very nice so cool .
Thanks for watching this, Georgia!
what a beautiful way to travel
You're right, David! It was very special to be able to see what we saw from the vantage point of a comfortable trike. Thank you for watching.

We were using the assist at the lowest level most of the time. They held up easily 😊
People pick the worst music!
Sorry we're not meeting your musical standards, Mark 🤨 I appreciate you watching, though.
Thanks, @T C!
