Enjoyed your video and the comments. I am 86 years young and started riding a recumbent trike last May. My balance is not great, but on the trike that is no problem. We live near our metro airport and I very much enjoy looking up at the approaching aircraft and also the ability to just stop and chat with people. I have put about 800 miles on the trike in the last 6 months and enjoyed every moment of it.
I totally agree. I broke my back 12 years ago and then blew out 8 disks. The pain is 7-9/10 with minor meds because I won't do what the pain specialist recommends, which is extended release morphine or fentanyl. I was a prisoner in my own body. Then I tried a trike. IT DIDN'T HURT!!! I have a get out of jail card with my trike. I'm like a kid flying down the street and getting exercise I desperately need. I am losing the weight I put on by not being able to walk more than 20 feet. All of that and **** F U N!**** At 64, I am alive again. With no chance to move and just aging, I had some terribly dark thoughts. Now, those are history and I have a future to look forward to.
Great job Sir. I purchased my very first recumbent trike a few weeks ago and it needed a complete overhaul (it was used and poorly maintained) ‘I ended up replacing the rear 20-inch wheel with a 26-inch tire that I took from a mountain bike I had lying around. I used parts from a bed (steel carriage) seats from an old weight bench (cut and trimmed), steel from a damaged water heater, and crutches. All these parts helped me rebuild the bike into something useful and I’m riding it now for my health and of course for fun. So far I’ve spend about $330 US dollars total!
Hi Tim, your videos are getting even better! I can only agree on your reasons for adding a wheel. Been riding an Ice Trike for a couple of months now. Mainly used for commuting. (I'm cheating though, I've turned it into an e-trike. Reason long distance to work 40 km single trip. Trying to keep support level as low as possible....) Coming from a normal bike it took me quite a while getting used to different workout. However if I now jump on a normal bike it is like it's not moving at all....Keep the videos coming. Have fun in Morocco!
Thanks so much for your kind words. 40km to work? Welldone you. Can't blame you for wanting a little extra push with that. Maybe I should have mentioned about getting "recumbent legs". It does take a while to get accustomed doesn't it? Morocco is still too hot ☀️ grrrr
Tim, Now that I've had my ICE Adventure HD (with e-assist) for 10 days, it just confirms the reasons: fitness, freedom, fresh air and FUN! Just breaking it in gently, having clocked up the first 100 miles.
Just discovered your channel, Tim. At 79 years old, I am thinking of purchasing a recumbent trike. Seems like a reasonable way to get some exercise. You seem like a pleasant fellow; I look forward to tuning in to your channel to pick up on your latest tips. Good day, from Yuma, AZ, USA.
Just triked 777km round Netherlands, my 4th trip there, but this time with a mate. Both had trailers. Enjoyed the camping; stayed on some great sites. You're right, people are drawn to the trike. The most comfortable way to cycle long distances. Lots of rain and headwinds, but lots of fun. Very impressed by the standard of your videos.
Totally agree! I laughed at the spilled popcorn 🍿 🤣. I am from the United States, Arizona. I ride a Catrike Expedition recumbent trike. I enjoy long-term touring, but do to work, I don't get much long-term touring. Recumbent trikes are great, perhaps not for the upright bicycle snobs but they don't know what they're missing. They are much more fun! Enjoy your channel.
Hi Tim, Thanks for sharing yr thoughts on triking, I am completely convinced. Currently on upright, Had a brief trial on his Catrike, Hoping to save enough money to get one. Have a nice day
Reasons: All of the above. Used to ride a regular bike but MS hit me with balance issues. Got a Catrike Expedition over a month ago. Now I can get out and ride again. Fresh air and fun.
Hi Tim .Thank you for your videos your tips and your thoughts After been a race cyclist , and training jerk i found your chanel and that been changed my relation to my bike radically. Now when i discover how much riding plesure happynes and relaxation a trike can gives you . I feel so very confort and de-stress in my leisure/triking time after years and years of hunting watts kilometers and competition ,even if i do some grand fondo/race and train a lot ,the trike and the philosophy of the triking and the thinking you can in do when pedaling working in your own enjoyin all sourrondings in a new dimention. I bought a KMX some months ago and now inspired in your trips i am building /weding a own trike. Very demanding but fun, very fun. Thank you and keep doing your videos , they are very inspirational.
I just ordered my trike yesterday. Can’t wait for it to get here. It was recommended to me by my physical therapist due to a back and pelvis injury. Can’t wait to get mobile again.
Bone spurs and arthritis took me off of diamond frame (AKA regular bicycles) bikes. I learned to ride a bike when I was in grade school. I rode some in college and later when I was teaching. I had both a hybrid bike and a road bike until medical issues came up. It became too painful to ride a bike. Fast forward about three years before I retired when I attended a "Seniors Exhibition" at the local convention center. There was a Terra Trike dealer there with three or four trikes on display. Out of curiosity I got on one and rode it around the periphery of the exhibition. I largely forgot about the experience until retirement and then I remembered. The only dealer was 25 miles away so I went over one day to look. Just so happens the owner was out of town and the mechanic and office person were the only ones there. It was a slow day so the mechanic took a trike, put me on another and off we went around the adjoining neighborhoods just riding and chatting for a couple of hours. I eventually settled on a Terra Trike Rambler GT (26" rear, 20" front). It's been a grand adventure and I'm now on a Catrike Dumont. I've pedaled over 7K miles. I absolutely love riding. In conclusion, riding a bike requires constant attention to where your going and what's in front of you so that you don't go down...crash. You barely see anything or enjoy anything around you. On the trike I was now lower and going slower, still able to look ahead but able to see the surroundings. Like Tim said you talk to people and you answer questions. The ability to totally enjoy your surroundings is there. It opened up a whole new world for me and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Oh, and yes, I tell folks it's "butt friendly"...
Fantastic comment Hal. I sometimes forget how little I got to enjoy the outside when riding an upwrong. Now my concentration can be fully on my surroundings and generally enjoying the world around me.
I am convinced, i gave up cycling because of back problems, but i came across your videos around a week ago, i am due to have an operation on both my back and my right ankle has no cartlidge, so for me a two wheeled bike is not an option, thanks for the inspiration.
Pretty cool to have your logo on your cap, and your other items. My question is why not put a sun shade over the seating to keep the sun off you and would be a little more comfy. I will be when i get my trike. Gerard.
very funny illustration's of how we ride diamond frame bike and how the position is not natural 😆, i just bought me a KMX trike, and yes that brand is kind of heavy but its a lot of fun riding it!
Tims Trike Trips yeah Iv been riding traditional bikes for years always replacing the seat , the stem always trying to find that sweet spot for comfort which is almost impossible when your always sitting on the prostate. I just wish I would tried out Trike or recumbent sooner , I know I should be able to crank the miles now !👍😊
Great video mate, I'm surprised there aren't more people riding trikes, so much better for posture and for people with back troubles like yourself, and me, really well made video, enjoyed the little clips you added, nice intro too with the drone footage and music, all the best 👍
Thanks Tim I am considering which new used trike to buy. I love cycling but I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Prostate Cancer 5 yrs ago. This seems like just the thing for me. THis was excellent . thanks for putting this High Quality video together for people like me. God Bless.
I used to ride a racer constantly, and raced them, iv since had spinal surgery and am not getting on sell with the cross country mountain bike i choose! Looks like a trikes the next option!
There are two in London that I know of. London Recumbents who hire out trikes by the hour are very good. Well worth a look. londonrecumbents.com/hires-dulwich.html The other one is Bikefix in Holborn but their shop is very much smaller and they don't do hiring but might still let you take one out for a test. www.bikefix.co.uk/
Hahaha 😂😂 hopefully the popcorn landed in another pan/bowl 😂😂fantastic little video, I'll put it on the website when I have some time... currently busy packing my bike for Australia. Hope Morocco is not too hot! Love the merch too! I need that for myself as well!
Nice video on the "why" I do have one question though. Who the heck bought an old Life boat painted it blue and parked it on the canal? LOL. I mean what the heck do they use it for? and floating camper or something like that? I worked for Schat-Harding many years ago out of the Louisiana office in the USA. We had hunters there asking all the time to buy old lifeboats to make duck blinds out of them. I found that interesting to day the least.
Ha ha. You'd be surprised. There are several of them moored up along there at various spots and yes, they actually live on them! Well, what I mean to say is... people exist on them. I'm not sure you or I would call that "living" exactly.
@@TimsTrikeTrips I've designed those types of boats, built them, and worked and inspected them. I would be hard pressed to say that they would be safe to heat them or cook in them. Sure as heck wouldn't want to live in one.
Move to America. Mid west has plenty of nice talkative people. We have our share of arsholes too but the suburbs of Chicago are great! Winters are rough tho.
Actual info begins at 3:15 And thanks for the info. I want to buy or build one DIY. Im age-ing up as well, need to rehab some injuries, and tow my bull terrier who wants to be a greyhound.
Hi Jeff. Thanks for the comment. Seems a few people on my channel are building them. More of a project than I'd want to take on I think. I'm no mechanic. 😉 Please let me know how you get on with it?
@@TimsTrikeTrips Will do! I am very mechanically inclined, do cnc work, I mig weld and am learning aluminum tig so it was just a thought to possibly DIY something out of various bikes and bits if possible. And only because I'm sure a decent trike costs considerably more than any normal road bike.
Have owned a Catrike 700 for 5 years Outdoors, I ride in a park that has a 1.2 mile paved 2 lane road loop that is restricted access to cars. Riding a 26 mile workout, I get it done in about 1.5-1.75 hours at a constant space. I also ride it on a roller in my living room using a roller and do two 30 minutes a day for cardio and muscle toning. Why I like it? I can ride 26 miles non stop without stopping with my back comfortably supported. It focuses the exercise on legs and butt for good toning. It’s next to impossible to wreck given the 3 wheels and low center of gravity. Things that are less desirable, It takes some creativity if you want to transport it to ride. I bought a special trike carrier for my car and that is a pain. I am now going to use 3 aluminum c channels on a roof rack which is much better to take it places.
I realy apreciated the video , because it's a nice statement. I subscribe everything you said. However I shoud add two or three things important for me. In fact trikes make tours a more intense and vivid experiences than in normal bikes, and give us a better way to contemplate Nature ans his beauty, receiving their gifts in a more opened attitude towards the world. Also not to worry whith balance, make us more able to pay attencion to other things.
Nice video Tim. I would actually add a couple little things onto the list. First, I feel completely comfortable riding a trike on trails without a helmet whereas I would never ride a two wheel bike without one. Second, A person really doesn't realize how much concentration and focus is spent on balancing a two wheel bike and guiding the front wheel away from potholes and ruts in the road until you don't need to do it anymore.
You're right. I'd never realised that I see so much more going on around me and that's because I don't have to concentrate on riding. I might remake this video one day. There's certainly more to be said. Thanks for your contribution 👍
Enjoy your holiday. You might need to protect your ears from the sun with a wider brimmed hat. On another note I'm curious as to what brand the front crank and sprocket is on the trike? Is it a Schlumph drive if not what brand is it? Is it paired with a Rohloff? and how do you find that they work. speed weight etc. Another video on bike tech
I’m very interested and seriously considering taking up triking. I am very interested in the ICE adventure , possibly HD model and possibly, an electric assist. As someone whose videos I’ve watched and enjoyed and whose experience and knowledge I respect. What are your opinions or views
Neil, I can't advise you on the ICE trike directly as I have never ridden one myself. However on getting yourself into trikes then go for it. I doubt you'll regret it. If possible try out several different makes and models before you make a purchase. It is vital that you get the right trike for you. They are an expensive bit of kit and making the right choice is not something that should be rushed. A good dealer will let you ride different trikes and help you choose the spec that suits your purpose the best. As for electric assist... absolutely! Go for it if you feel it would add to your enjoyment. In a recent video I also spoke about how I will also go electric when I feel that my legs are starting to restrict the enjoyment I get from being outdoors. Thanks for watching and for your kind comment. If I can help further then please just ask.
I wish everyone could afford one. Its a real shame they are not more affordable but while the market for them is so small the research and manufacture will keep costs high I guess. A bit of a "chicken and egg" situation maybe.

I've been toying with the idea of a recumbent trike for some time myself. It's the on road visibility that holds me back from taking the plunge. What's your experience when on road with your trike?
Hi Peter and thanks for the question. There are two sides to visibility. The first: can I see where I'm going, and the second: can others see me. as you probably know already I live (and ride) in London and have some of the busiest roads in the UK to negotiate. I have to say that I don't like riding in traffic, on two wheels or three. I avoid it wherever I can and will go out of my way to find cycle paths and quieter routes when I can. In very heavy traffic, I have to say, I don't like being low down on the Trike. By very heavy, picture standing traffic where I'm boxed in and perhaps cannot see around me in either or maybe both directions. It doesn't happen very often but when it does I feel very vulnerable. Outside of that situation things only get better and better as the traffic gets less and less. My visibility of others around me is enhanced by having the ability and time to look around me at all times without having to worry about balancing on two wheels or looking out for obstacles like potholes (which don't really effect riding a trike). What I mean is... I can concentrate more on others around me and less on my actual riding. On others visibility of me, I have never found this to be an issue. A recumbent trike on the UK roads is such an unusual sight that I find most UK drivers will either give me three times more room than they actually need to or they will wait patiently behind me until its safe for them to pass. I have yet to EVER be honked at by anyone out of irritation... only happiness and thumbs up. And that is really saying something for London drivers who are usually really uptight and in such a rush Sorry... I've gone on a bit long. Perhaps I'll chat about this in a video sometime. It is something I get asked a lot about when out and about too.
@@TimsTrikeTrips Thanks Tim. I too live in London, but have never seen a recumbent trike on the road. Even when you watch the adverts for recumbent trikes they NEVER show them in typical traffic situations. The flag(s) on a long pole would be a minimum requirement when in traffic if I ever do take the plunge and buy one. They're not cheap and I don't want to spend upwards of £2,500 to get flattened or lose confidence and never use it. Thanks for your response.
They do the same with car adverts too. Always driving that brand new 4x4 up a mountainside and fording the obligatory river at speed. Never real life like sitting at a stand still somewhere between Junctions on the M25 with kids screaming in the back ha ha. If you really want a trike then get one. I've ridden around Piccadilly Circus and up Oxford Street on mine (and have the video on here to prove it). I can just as easily do miles and miles around London without going anywhere near traffic. You'll only get that confidence when you're actually out there doing it.
@@TimsTrikeTrips I haven't seen your video triking around Picadilly and Oxford Street yet. I shall watch that next, if I can find it. That should give me a better idea of real recumbent triking in traffic.
Another great video Tim! I ride a trike for many of the same reasons. I ride a Catrike 559. Atomic Orange. Always enjoy your videos. They are informative and entertaining. Look forward to seeing Morocco.
The price of recumbent trikes is astronomical (to me anyway), but i'm lucky enough to possess a welder and a creative mind (not to mention a pile of salvaged bicycle parts). Watching a video of a trike convention i noticed one (fluorescent orange and green) with front independent suspension as well as rear. Just a couple of A-arms and a coilover shock per side. Guy was riding it down a short flight of stairs, hard, without damage. Since i am pushing 350 lbs (158.7 kg) i think it would be prudent to have front suspension...lol. I keep putting off the build (life getting in the way), but now my doctor says i have piss-poor circulation in my legs (bad valves) and need exercise. But with a large raw wound on my right ankle he also says i should keep my legs elevated all day to improve circulation and thus healing. So i'd better get to it. Winter approaching in the Midwest US so i'd better add a Velo body too. Well, out comes the 1/4" XPS foam and epoxy fiberglass...lol.
hi tim. i had a strole last year and balance is one reason i'm usin a recumban trike if you know of any exstrokesufferers please point me to the to ch with
Hi Glenn. There are lots of us on here with different disabilities/conditions. I cant think of anyone off hand but I'm sure there are. I'll keep it in mind. I hope you're enjoying your trike?😉👍
Those damn cables. I can't fly the drone anywhere along the canal because of them too. Can't get a signal. The trike is a Scorpion FS26 from HP Velotechnik. Thanks for watching Frank. Plenty more to come...
No. My preference was for full suspension for increased comfort but I didn't "need" it. Bigger tyres would also offer a little comfort without any suspension. Many trikes have only rear suspension and some have no suspension at all. It's all down to personal preferences.
I’m just getting into the sport. About to buy my first trike. All of these videos are interesting. I am curious how you haul and transport the trike whether by air or ground.
Hi Ed. I already have one video about taking the trike on a plane... ua-cam.com/video/rKroidcqq6w/v-deo.html I'll be doing it all over again very soon so will post another on that subject later in the summer including how I prepare the trike for travel. My trike folds which makes it easier for transporting in the back of a car or by train too. Its also quite handy for storage as an unfolded trike takes up quite a bit of space.
Doing some research on trikes. Been interested in one for a while. I’m 47 years old and I’m 6’7” 250lbs. Looking for something that I could take off road if I choose. Any suggestions? Thank you.
Hi. I can only advise you about the trike that I ride because its the first one I have ever owned. I take "Trinny" off road all the time and its very comfortable too. Make sure you look for front and rear suspension. You wont go far wrong with an HP trike but you'd be better off asking an expert in store if you can. They will have information about other brands too.
Hi Tim. I enjoy watching your video. I’m not a trike rider or a recumbent bike rider but I’m seriously looking at it. I have been looking up on the net and here. So next up are questions/advice. Is there any particular reason you ride the HP, a German made as opposed to the Ice which is an English made. Reason for asking; I am Irish, I would always try support local and then my nearest neighbor as long as it was of standard. I know there are other brands I have also looked at. Recumbent Bike or Recumbent Trike? Why one over the other apart from the obvious. Direct Steering or Indirect Steering? Again I have read about this but would like your opinion/views Gears, so much to ask on this subject; how many gears does one need taken into consideration I’d be knew to this. I’d be unfit when it comes to cycling (I play badminton 5 nights a week). Twist shift or the other one (can’t think what they call it but it’s on top of the handle and you just push them I think. Then there’s the pinion (I think that’s how you spell it) automatic. Or Electric. The question is have on the electric is if I ran out of power is the battery adding much and make it to difficult to return home or would I have to call out the AA. If there is any of those questions you don’t want to answers that ok. Thank you Regards Kevin.
Hi Kevin, thanks for your comment and questions. I'll do my best to try and answer them... The reason I ride an HPV Scorpion is that at the time I bought her the Scorpion was the head & shoulders above any other trikes that were availble for me to test ride in just about every way I could wish for. To date I still haven't had the opportunity to ride an ICE Trike so cant comment about them other than to say that I have never heard anything but good reports about their quality. I would definitely look at ICE if I needed to replace my trike in the future. I ride a trike mainly because of a disability in my right leg which can cause me problems with pedalling and with balance when stopping if on two wheels. Also its very much easier to use a camera and take a look around when you dont have to also worry about falling over. :-) I cant really comment about the steering as I have never tried indirect steering so have nothing to compare against sorry. On gears and gearing, as you say there is so much on the subject... If you're playing badminton 5 nights a week then your general fitness level must be pretty good already. A short time getting your "recumbent legs" (usually your first 400 to 500km) and you'll be sorted. I cant honestly tell you what gears you'll need without knowing distances and terrain etc that you intend to ride but a good recumbent dealer will help you far more with that subject in any case. Twist shift or Bar end shifters...? I think thats purely down to personal preference. I dont see taht one has advantages over another. Its just what you get used to. On electric assist, I have a new video coming out very soon (July 2019) as this is something I am now considering. I'll let you watch that and if you have more questions about it after then ask away. Anyway, I hope some of that helps? If you want to ask more then fire away... You can always make contact by email via the contact form on my website www.timstriketrips.com if thats easier too.
Tims Trike Trips . Good morning Tim. Thank you very much for taking the time to help. If I was to purchase one I think it would be mostly road or on Greenway paths which would be either tarmac or compact gravel and quite hilly. I really appreciate your help. Regards Kevin.
Hi Kevin, I tried replying to your email but it kept rejecting it and sending it back to me. You are right. My answer above is confused. I have the indirect steering and have not tried the direct. Sorry for any confusion. Any more help needed, then please just ask. Happy to help where I can.
Tims Trike Trips Hi Tim. Again thank you for your reply. I was thinking it was. A gentleman as always. I’m nearly there with a decision and I think it going to be down to an ICE or AZUB. I just have to decide on if I really need suspension and if I do do I only need rear or do I need front and rear. I never thought it would be as difficult as this when I first started looking. Speak again.
depends where you live .Riding through a rough area is fatal .Ive had drivers pipping saying it shouldn't be on the road also younger ie boy racer types shouting abuse .Although i can look after myself and can be just as firy it does somewhat spoil the days ride
I want to drive one because i have stability and muscle problems on my left leg but i can't afford one because of the high prices they almost cost like a small car i just ended 4years of reva so the piggybank is already spended just to be able to walk again after my accident
Sorry to hear about the problems with your leg. I can sympathise with you. There are some less expensive trikes around, especially if you can grab a good second hand one. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
Hi Jim. My father (who still hasn't learned that three wheels are better than two) pulls a trailer just for his dog... but she is getting old poor thing. It allows him to go further and she can still exercise when she wants to.
I'm still hoping for a Chinese company to flood the market with cheaper 'bents so we can all afford them, too expensive, so needs must - time to build my own. At 58 I'm not getting any younger and don't want to lose my independence of getting about. So before resigning cycling to the shed I want to have some mileage and a 'bent is the way to go. Living in the Pennines means it has to be assist at least; luckily i have 4 bikes to hack to bits to make one and some brazing knowledge. (I also have 3 old B & D drills to make an engine from for the Electric bit). good video though.
Hi Mark, thanks for the Sub. You're not wrong about the prices. Even when someones saved hard and bought a recumbent the upkeep, accessories and spare parts can really hit the pocket still. Good luck with the build. 👍
i switched because 33mph on my carbon roadie wasnt fast enough ! kinda annoying 95% of these vidoes are people pottering around in 22 - 27 gear doing 8mph...go fast ! 😆👍👍
I am not well off and infact vary poor . My girlfriend is doing all right but she's not rich or even average just a little below . I get my disability and she's a private school teacher . I got it for $300.00 . I know what some of you are thinking that why I would want another or one for my self . Well I am disabled and it is vary hard on me to get down that low . I did it twice and each time I had to have help getting in and out of it . Not a good sight to see . So I asked the VA to get me one that I can get into . The VA told me what loops I have to go threw . They have to approved by my care giver or one of my doctors . Well after a year and having PTSD to the point of being high risk of suicide they are going to try to get me a recumbent . They seen my past medical records from attempts and an evaluation from the VA . The VA got me into some programs like O/T and R/T and if I improve they may want me to volunteer to work in the VA . I hope so . I hope that I can do it . But still I may never recover totally . One more break down will do me in . I know that I wont be able to handle it any longer . It will be it for me . I just want to be happy and calm with no worries .
@@jimdownie671 : I just hope the VA will loan me a trike . The VA dont give you one they loan it to you for as long as you ride . If you dont meet that then they will ask for it back . This is because some of the vets are crooks and all they want one for is to resell it . : ( . I like to own one and not barrow one . This way if something happens to it then it on me and if I barrow one then it would be disappointing from the VA . I just have to be vary careful and not let nothing happen to it .

Now that I've had my ICE Adventure HD (with e-assist) for 10 days, it just confirms the reasons: fitness, freedom, fresh air and FUN! Just breaking it in gently, having clocked up the first 100 miles.
that's really good to hear Greg. Keep it up!👍
Just discovered your channel, Tim.
Well done on your trip mate. For fun I reckon it's hard to beat. And thanks so much for your kind words. 👍
Thank you! I'm shopping this week for a trike!
Good for you Mike. I hope you get as much fun out of it as I do.
Hi Tim, Thanks for sharing yr thoughts on triking, I am completely convinced. Currently on upright, Had a brief trial on his Catrike, Hoping to save enough money to get one. Have a nice day
Thanks Francis. I might do a remake of this video one day. I'm forever finding new reasons for liking the trike more and more.
Reasons: All of the above.
Used to ride a regular bike but MS hit me with balance issues. Got a Catrike Expedition over a month ago. Now I can get out and ride again. Fresh air and fun.
Thanks for the video. Appreciated for your time to make the video!
You're very welcome. Thanks for watching. 👍
Hi Tim .Thank you for your videos your tips and your thoughts
After been a race cyclist , and training jerk i found your chanel and that been changed my relation to my bike radically.
Hi David, Thanks for your kind words. Keep us updated with your build please? You're not the only subscriber here who's building one at the moment. 👍
I just ordered my trike yesterday. Can’t wait for it to get here. It was recommended to me by my physical therapist due to a back and pelvis injury. Can’t wait to get mobile again.
Good for you Breonna. Let us know how you get on. I'm sure you'll love it! 👍
I am planning my first 5000+ Km trip on a recumbent trike and i am really excite about it
This is just a very laid-back video and channel for that matter, quite refreshing... I'm in Maine Northeast United States
NIce to see you in the comments Clay. Thanks 👍
I am convinced, i gave up cycling because of back problems, but i came across your videos around a week ago, i am due to have an operation on both my back and my right ankle has no cartlidge, so for me a two wheeled bike is not an option, thanks for the inspiration.
Hi Jimmy. Welcome to my channel. Glad I could be of some help.
Comfort and Fun....exactly!
Emphasis on the fun! 😆😉
Love the sitting examples
Ha ha, Thanks Brandon. Thinking I might expand on this video a little sometime. There's more to say I feel.
Love all the information, and trying to catch up on your videos. Hello from Indiana.
Hi Katherine. Glad you're enjoying them. Plenty more to come ... 😉
I’m a stroke survivor and a recumbent trike is the only way I can ride now I reckon it has saved my life
Pretty cool to have your logo on your cap, and your other items. My question is why not put a sun shade over the seating to keep the sun off you and would be a little more comfy. I
will be when i get my trike.
Gerard.
very funny illustration's of how we ride diamond frame bike and how the position is not natural 😆, i just bought me a KMX trike, and yes that brand is kind of heavy but its a lot of fun riding it!
Hi. Glad you enjoyed they vid. Happy triking!
Thanks Gaz. Really appreciate your positive comments mate 👍
Hello from the USA !
I gotta try a trike someday.
Enjoyed the video. All positive stuff eh! Looking forward to seeing your Moroccan adventure.
Thanks for watching Ord 👍
Brilliant Tim, Great vlog mate.
Cheers Brian. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Makes it all worthwhile. 😊
First class video and agree with all your reasons for riding a trike - keep at it TIM
Thanks for watching Ian. Glad you like it too 👍
Very enjoyable video. And I’ll be waiting on pins and needles (as mom said!) to see how you get Trinnie in the plane. Enjoy your holiday!
Yes its going to be 'interesting' 😬
Keep your fingers crossed for me.
Thanks Tim I am considering which new used trike to buy. I love cycling but I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Prostate Cancer 5 yrs ago. This seems like just the thing for me. THis was excellent . thanks for putting this High Quality video together for people like me. God Bless.
HI Marcos. Buy one. You wont be diappointed. Thanks you for your kind words. Its always nice to know when people enjoy my little creations.
Having a second lot of neck surgery in a few weeks not helped by drops I think; great vlog thanks for sharing
Hi Mike. Good luck with the surgery. I hope it all goes well for you.
Glad you're enjoying the Vlogs. 👍
good video mate,lol funny
when you dropped the popp corn
I still ate it after. Cant waste good food eh!? 😉
@@TimsTrikeTrips ha ha funny you are mate.
I used to ride a racer constantly, and raced them, iv since had spinal surgery and am not getting on sell with the cross country mountain bike i choose! Looks like a trikes the next option!
Hi Oliver. Take one out for a trial if you can. Honestly, I dont think you'll regret it. Take care and thanks for watching.
@@TimsTrikeTrips in based in Essex but will travel the country for a bike can you recommend a good shop?
There are two in London that I know of. London Recumbents who hire out trikes by the hour are very good. Well worth a look. londonrecumbents.com/hires-dulwich.html
The other one is Bikefix in Holborn but their shop is very much smaller and they don't do hiring but might still let you take one out for a test. www.bikefix.co.uk/
Comfort n taking the world in more aware!!!that's why
You're right there. Without having to worry about balancing its much easier to take it all in around you.
Hahaha 😂😂 hopefully the popcorn landed in another pan/bowl 😂😂fantastic little video, I'll put it on the website when I have some time... currently busy packing my bike for Australia. Hope Morocco is not too hot! Love the merch too! I need that for myself as well!
Morocco is far too hot for this time of year 😔 You'll soon be feeling some of that heat in Perth too. Good luck mate.
Enjoy your holiday😊
Thanks Robert. 👍
Your government wont let me in to live. I'll be over there for plenty of ...summer time... vacations though and extended trips when I retire.
" people don't want to talk anymore" Are you sure you're not in California ??? wow... did that resonate
I'm in California and people talk to me when I'm on my trike, but everyone smiles or nods.
Funny how three wheels is an ice-breaker to conversation eh? People never spoke to me on two wheels though.
You got subbed, I reckon it's worth keeping an eye on what you're up to.
Whoops. Missed your comment Mark. Thanks for the sub 👍
Have owned a Catrike 700 for 5 years
Outdoors, I ride in a park that has a 1.2 mile paved 2 lane road loop that is restricted access to cars.
Things that are less desirable,
It takes some creativity if you want to transport it to ride. I bought a special trike carrier for my car and that is a pain. I am now going to use 3 aluminum c channels on a roof rack which is much better to take it places.
Yup, I'm with you on the transportation. I have a big old car which I have kept well beyond its "use by" date just because I can fit her in the back.
Good Video
Thanks Malc. Glad you enjoyed it. 👍
my pleasure.... i have a site on FB called UK Recumbent Trike Videos & Chat also i do a few youtube vids on my journeys
Yes, I re-subbed you already. Cant wait to watch your vids now.
Very good points. Thanks.
Subbed and liked.
Another video on bike tech
answers coming right up in the next video Rick (I'm editing it right now), but briefly its an unbranded crank and not a schlumpf (yet). 😉
Tims Trike Trips thank you for the advice. Keep the videos coming
I wish I could afford one!

And that is really saying something for London drivers who are usually really uptight and in such a rush
Sorry...
Here you go... ua-cam.com/video/IT6m4AUgTvs/v-deo.html
Catrike Expedition here.... my usual "average" speed is 5 to 11 mph ...they are " slow " but the comfort is FAR worth it....
I so have to remake this video. I find new reasons to ride a trike all the time. Great fun eh!? 😉👍
Another great video Tim! I ride a trike for many of the same reasons. I ride a Catrike 559. Atomic Orange. Always enjoy your videos. They are informative and entertaining. Look forward to seeing Morocco.
Thanks again for watching James and for your nice comments. 👍
Must have been the overhead power lines , RFI at 4:50. What model is your trike?? Keep up the great work! Happy Trails! :-)
Those damn cables. I can't fly the drone anywhere along the canal because of them too. Can't get a signal. The trike is a Scorpion FS26 from HP Velotechnik. Thanks for watching Frank. Plenty more to come...
Do you need suspension on the front and back of the recumbent?
No. My preference was for full suspension for increased comfort but I didn't "need" it.
Bigger tyres would also offer a little comfort without any suspension.
Many trikes have only rear suspension and some have no suspension at all.
It's all down to personal preferences.
Just wondering did you eat that popcorn? I would have.
Ha Ha... of course I did. Why waste good popcorn eh!?
Actually I laid some kitchen towel down so it didn't hit the floor 😜
Again I have read about this but would like your opinion/views
Gears, so much to ask on this subject; how many gears does one need taken into consideration I’d be knew to this.
Thank you
Regards
Kevin.
I cant really comment about the steering as I have never tried indirect steering so have nothing to compare against sorry.
Regards
Kevin.
Where is this
Hi Clay, this one was taken along the Lea Valley, between Tottenham and Enfield.
hi tim i like your new hat you need a helmet Tim be safe +have fun
No Helmet for me thanks.
Its a wanderfull .I have a question. How can I get such a bike and how much is it?
ua-cam.com/video/jPYE5rzRoLw/v-deo.html
Thanks for watching Saad.
depends where you live .Riding through a rough area is fatal .Ive had drivers pipping saying it shouldn't be on the road also younger ie boy racer types shouting abuse .Although i can look after myself and can be just as firy it does somewhat spoil the days ride
That's a shame. Idiots everywhere I guess.
@@TimsTrikeTrips or the brands can lower ther price so more poeple can actually buy one
I got into triking on a Terratrike and then moved on to an Ice Adventure. Terratrikes are reasonable in price.
@@jimdownie671 thx i will look into it because i do almost everything on the bike
Yeah, you can rig up saddlebags or small luggage racks to carry a few items. Some people even hook on a small trailer.
One down side.. How do you get that onto an elevator if you live in an apartment building? Hmm.
Hi Virgil. Another reason for buying a Scorpion. It folds up. It's actually easier to take the folded trike in the elevator than a non-folding bike.
Actual talking begins @ 2:51
some people have their dogs run along side or put them in a container attached to the rear luggage rack
Hi Jim. My father (who still hasn't learned that three wheels are better than two) pulls a trailer just for his dog... but she is getting old poor thing. It allows him to go further and she can still exercise when she wants to.
Hilarious
Super plus; On a Trike you can stop on a hill...and just rest like in a chair ! < major plus
...and with a rohloff hub you can change gear while youre stopped and set off on the hill again with no problems too 😉👍
no helmet?
It's just a personal choice Keith. Each to their own. I wore a helmet for years on two wheels. I've spoken about this quite a bit in other videos.
i switched because 33mph on my carbon roadie wasnt fast enough ! kinda annoying 95% of these vidoes are people pottering around in 22 - 27 gear doing 8mph...go fast !
😆👍👍

A short time latter I was discharge because of three things failing a test twice and then starting to have problems with my hip . This sort of messed up my life along with other things that added up over time . GOD if you really knew . I would say that my life was bad that caused self destruction . So now I am off the point . I found a trike for my girlfriend . A older KMX that is vary clean . I bought it for her and she loves it . I got a good deal for it . If it was not for the peice I or we could not afford it .
I'm glad your girlfriend is enjoying the trike Jeff. Hopefully you'll have one too one day. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. 👍
If you get into a Delta style of trike, I believe it would be easier to get on and off. Check it out.
I will Jim thanks .
Maybe I'll get lucky and find a hot woman when i get a trike😁
Ha! Well I cant offer any guarantees on that one Raven but it'll certainly bring you some more attention if that's what you're after? 🙈🙉🙊
But don't forget about the abuse you get from riding a recumbent because its different
Really? I've yet to suffer that one. Jealousy maybe 😉
Anyway, in fairness I think I'll have to do a vlog about the bad bits too.
I get a lot of questions and the occasional person who considers it some sort of fancy wheelchair. It’s all good. And it gets people interested.
I get the "are you disabled?" question sometimes. I think that's kind of rude but laugh it off anyway. I think I'll start replying, "No, are you?"

Hi Andy. Sorry but I'm not sure I understand what part you find unacceptable?
