Yuval's excitement, enthusiam and acceptance for something so unethical is disturbing. None of this is inevitable. Cheerleaders like Yuval are misleading people.

what makes you say he is excited and enthusiastic? He literally says "I'm trying to warn people about the most dangerous possibilities in the hope that we do things in the present to prevent them from happening." I think a lot of people seem unable to differentiate between a person warning "this is coming", and a person saying "I want this to come" - seems a clear case of shooting the messenger. If it weren't for Yuval we would have no idea what is coming and once we did, it would be too late, at least now we have a chance to stop it

One of the biggest issues I have with AI, before we even think about who is regulating what it is doing, how about we look at who is regulating the data that is being fed into it to teach it in the first place....

It reminds me of the Office episode where Dwight sets up this software that acknowledges any kind of mistake and when they’ve had 5 mistakes it alerts the boss by sending an email about all the bad things the employees said about him. 2. Whenever you increase surveillance of individuals you should simultaneously increase surveillance of the corporation, and governments and people at the top.
3. Never allow all the data to be concentrated in one place. That’s the recipe for a dictatorship.
Astute observation, this is exactly what is happening now.
@Lael Israel it doesn’t matter, once they know data in big numbers, they dont care who is who because we will at the end one number, a single one 1. Like a drop in the ocean. 1. Corporations shouldn't be able to get one's data under any circumstances except by an individual's consent, much less decide how data should be used to "help" an individual (and who decides what kind of help is needed and for which individuals?). Many groups with power do not necessarily set out to manipulate, that happens as a matter of course as they try to "help" the less powerful who fail to understand 'the problem' and accept the help being offered by the group.
2. A corporation or government cannot be realistically relied upon to police itself or do so in a truely effective, wholestic manner that would put The People's interests before its own.
3. While centralizing where data is held or by whom can be a form of dictatorship, to be sure, it also gives those rebelling against tyranny a definite weakspot to target.

Really reminds me of Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World. Written in 1931 but I’ve always thought it was a relatively accurate portrayal (excluding the various anachronisms and antiquated science in it) of where humanity could end up.
Big Brother (from 1984) might be less of a threat than our drive for pleasure and technology (Brave New World).

I've grown to admire Yuval for his considerable intelligence and imagination, his compassion and his bravery. I often find comments from people responding to his talks with hatred and referencing idiotic conspiracy theories not worthy of a response. There will always be ignorant people who contribute nothing of value. Then there's Yuval, one of the best of us.
People are very skeptical because his motivations are not super obvious. He is obviously smart. Why would Klaus Schwab, Bill Gates etc listen to him? He talks plainly in this interview about AI and how it can take the conscience and ethical consideration out of a decision. Why is he saying that? He seems to admire that ability for some reason. He calls the medical data being held by companies not just dystopia but Utopian? Have you seen a Utopia in this world and if so where because those "Utopia's" have major issues like freedom. And no it is not conspiracy theory because you don't believe it. Do some research on these people. Conspiracy theory in 2023 has become a buzzword for things people don't want to believe or refuse to look into. People do not always make their motivations clear. Taking things at face value is generally not a good idea.
