Interesting insight. However you are analyzing heavily post graded final images. These exposure guidelines might be helpful if lighting to an accurate lut on set - but there are variables that can be drastically effected in post. But it is good to understand how to get close in camera. Thanks!
You don't learn proper exposure from clips that have been processed already to the director's taste...A great rule of thumb is to always expose slightly brighter, because it is better to pull down exposure in post than to raise it...
This is so helpful! I am shooting some darker scenes and in a dark room, to get dips to black, I am exposing skin tones around 30-40IRE. We are shooting in Braw too. Information is there, but we have very reflective walls…so I don’t want to push too much light. We are at 800iso too so not pushing the noise.
Great tool, however I'd definitely use a bluray source AT LEAST for detail and bitrate preservation. I think this is a representation of what the final look was intended to be, not necessarily how they exposed it on set
Dp in cinema never expose their images under exposes like that, all these images are shot on a normal exposure, but in colorgrade they barely under exposed to preserve their shadow to noise.
@@TheObsessiveDP Sorry for my brocken english . I will try again to explain the problem with your method . Wen you expose for the right you will have a over exposed log video ; wen you do the color editing you will drop down the exposure . If you use a fols color on the log the exposure will bi different form the final immagine . This method is use to minimize de noise in the shadows probably used in 1917 because the alexa is a expose to de right camera (at least my classic).
The EL Zone System would come in handy here.
Those scenes were probably edited in post and the exposure was likely reduced, you’re not looking at how it was exposed
Still useful to see what they are bringing them down to in post but yes the log was exposed differently

Very useful analysis with examples❤

I did learn a lot here! Thanks
Love love love it
Now comercial false colour analysis!!!!

Great Video! Thinking about lighting and color grading in a whole new way. Thanks!
Your channel is insanely helpful!
this was great!
Appreciate it my man!
This is very helpful man! Thank you!! 🙏🏼

Dude you are using processed clip in color editing the exposure will be change for minimizing the noise .
I’m sorry. I’m not following. Are you saying that premiere is changing the exposure of the clips?
