  • Final assembly of the Borax Water Wagon!. Finishing the brake assembly, mounting the tank, and final blacksmith, forge work. Sometimes these water wagons are pictured being pulled individually, without the Borax Wagons, so they are equipped with special irons to attach to the mules. Thanks for following the Water Wagon building process!

      Man you got that right. I build a lot things house's and my hobby is restoring old trucks. I build hard wood staircases and they can be pretty tricky. This guy drills perfectly straight holes through 10" hard wood perfectly straight and plumb with a hand drill. Hammer welds authentic fixtures for a wagon like he was there when the originals were made. Every detail is of the highest quality. And the construction of those wheels blows my mind.

      Its true on the editing. Even those in the editing industry, aka Hollywood, have met some serious competition with their own trade and with folks in the USA who are involved in completely different industries. In other words, folks like Dave who have skills in other fields carry those same mindset skills to just about everything else they do. IMO, Hollywood is no standard to set anything they do to. In fact, Hollywood has diluted itself and lowered its standards in just about every aspect.

      Kevin Blanchard: Why "a Rembrandt" ? That guy was a famous painter-but I have my doubts about him being able to build a Borax Wagon.

    • @kevchard5214

      @@stranraerwal Rembrandt, was from all great painters the one that showed expression, reality and soul in his paintings. The Borax wagon may have been a thing of necessity in its day but is a piece of art in todays world. This water wagon like Rembrandt's paintings show expression, reality and soul from the metal forging to the attention to detail. Today there are few people that can create a thing of beauty with their hands and simple products of nature. This man is a artist in all aspects of the word.

      Finding someone that wants to do the work, and take the time to really learn, is very hard now days. I've pretty much come to the conclusion I'm going to die with all the knowledge of horses and dogs I have learned over the years.
      Many tell you they want to learn, but what they really mean is they want to learn it all next week, and it doesn't work that way !

    • @theexchipmunk
      @theexchipmunk 4 роки тому +3

      @@griffinreitz7041 Yes, but thats not really our fault. Its just how we grew up and whats expected from us. We are expected to come out of school with like 20 years experience and at best 3 degrees. We don't have time to just sit down and slowly learn. And that flows into all of our lives. You also need to find someone incredibly invested. Because these nice branches while undoubtedly extremely fulfilling and cool, have a huge stigmata on them. When you are successful with it you get a lot of recognition. But if you are young and interested in stuff like that? Generally its just discouraged because "It does not make money" or "these people are weird". I am slowly starting to realise I probably don't want to go study to be en engineer or another "well paying" profession. I either will go into theatre or Gunsmithing is it continues like this, but I will have to really work to get into that because I am already 25 and every year it will get harder to get out of my already build up structures. But if I had gone there directly after school so much would have been easier.

    Well done. There's got to be a great deal of satisfaction in knowing your craftsmanship will outlive all who will watch this. Not in the sense of boasting, but to uses an over used phrase, "At the end of the day" you know you've done your best, and your best is extraordinary.

    That is One Great Build. I have looked forward to each weeks show and learn and enjoyed the build. I had no idea how much iron went into the building of this water wagon. It is wonderful that it is complete and will help to preserve some of the West history. Thank you for sharing this trip back in time. It was a joy for me. As a 12 year old boy I was given a model kit of the Twenty mule team with all three wagons and built it. I never thought I would see the real thing every again.

    Each of these needs a small placard on each wagon saying:
    "Built by Dave Engel
    Engel's Coach Shop
    and the completion date"
    That way, a hundred years from now, people will know who built them.
