I'm honestly pretty impressed that the True Zoom actually does deliver noteworthy image quality. The price isn't terrible and it does seem better in all scenarios than the Z Play's onboard camera, but point and shoots are getting better and cheaper. Plus they don't eat into your smartphone's battery life like the True Zoom does.
That is still optical zoom.Even though Samsung and Huawei have really good zoom lens software it is still not true zoom But I think in next couple of years some company will implement true 10x zoom .
Sony has almost literally shrunk the Hasselblad mod in the the latest Xperia 1V with a continuous zoom telephoto camera between 3.5X to 7.1X It will be amazing to see a complete 3X to 10X lens system smaller than a frozen pea in a few years. Cuz then and only then will I upgrade from my Oppo 10X Zoom to a folding phone.
Still rocking the latest and greatest Moto Z4 with a week's worth of battery extensions, a wireless charging mod, and both versions of the JBL Soundboost mods!
3 years later watching this review. And when I saw that battery pack mod man I wish every phone would have mods. Just a few pins at the bottom of your device and you can slap a battery pack on it would be cool. Or better speakers
I bought this phone along with 5 modules, the; Polaroid Insta-Share Printer, Moto Insta-Share Projector, Moto GamePad, JBL SoundBoost 2 Speaker and the Hasselblad True Zoom Camera. No, I didn't buy everything at once as some of these modules weren't released until a year later. I loved the Moto Z line and had pretty much every model, in fact, still use the Moto Z4 today. I mean why not, it's been updated to Android 11, its still quick enough for most tasks, even games, especially when used with game pad module. Talking about modules, they are still awesome to use, well all except the Hasselblad as the main camera on the Z4 takes much better pictures. I especially like the JBL speaker 2 as the sound is loud, with decent base and the Polaroid Instant printer is a blast to use at parties. JBL speaker, external battery, Hasselblad camera and the projector module.
I bought 2 of these Moto z plays, one for each of my teen boys. I went this way because they seemed to be able to do everything the kids like and they can add the mods that interest them. So one son wants the camera, the other wants the speaker. So far they love them. And the battery really does last!
PLAYER SLAYER They haven't, but I expect something from them at IFA. Lenovo and Motorola themselves said that the Moto X line of phones is alive and well.

The G5 is basically a flop. Now that I think about it, some of the major OEM's have had flagship phones that have flopped. The S5 in 2014, the One M9 in 2015, and now the G5 this year.

If you are traveling and taking landscape shots I highly advise the mod. Took it to Machu Picchu and was able to take amazing photos of the ruins from the mountain peak above.
Back when "Only Full HD" was a downside... Seriously how did the smartphone industry take such a drastic turn from QuadHD being a huge selling point on phones in the shop to every phone just doing FHD+ so many trends just took a 180 and i can't really find a point where I can go "Yeah this is where i can see it changing." It just... changed.

Love the Hasselblad mod attachment. One drawback for me is that the zoom is not variable. In other words you can't slow it down while shooting video for a smooth effect. It's either in or out and no in between. I hope an update would cure that problem. Other than that, it takes beautiful photos, a little more color saturation than the phone camera which is great as well.
The review units came with a wooden Style Shell and I believe the retail ones do, too. As for the others, I believe Verizon and Motorola are always running promos.
Let's me just say this. I have the Hasselblad mod. It's really very good (color, contrast, white balance, etc). What I don't like is that you can hear the zoom noise when you zoom. Otherwise, it's quite good.
I was really into the Moto Z Play. I loved the design of the glass back over the Moto Z's metal back. But, I think I'll stick with my OnePlus 3 for now :P And Michael? Amazing review as always 😊

I fully agree with everything he said about the moto z play it's an amazing phone. Even in this day and age, I've never had one I was willing to fix every time I broke the screen ( which happened often because I'm a clutz and the mods didn't allow you to use a case. Not to mention if the speaker was on and it fell face down say goodbye. The extra weight guaranteed the screen would be destroyed. But still such an amazing phone. Id still use it today if it wasn't so out of date.

just got this phone as it was one of the 'freebies' on my plan - the mods look pretty cool, especially the speaker. Just remember this [the mods] is all in its infancy and could become the norm across many phones. I think closer to $125-150 will be the sweet spot for the camera.
Such a throw back, I had the Moto Z force and I guess liked it enough to upgrade to the Z3 a few years later. I'm sane now and using pixel 4 XL its ok we all make mistakes.
I tested out the Z Play at a Motorola kiosk and holy poop is it good. The phone is really snappy, even though it's midrange. I'm also only buying the Play for the jack.

Coming from a person who's primary camera is from a smartphone. That quality looks amazing to me ! And I wear cargo pants anyway so these Moto mods wouldn't be a hinderance in my pockets !

In my opinion of owning the Moto Z Force Droid, I have every Mod that has been released. As I recently got into photography a few months ago and buying a Nikon D7000, Its pretty awesome to have the Camera Mod when I am not lunking around my DSLR. Its a great alternative for taking some pretty amazing photos with your phone. Some things I have to complain about this review is that The battery life is not lowered at all by the camera mod. I use it through out the whole day on one charge taking it off and putting it back on and I Always go to bed with about 40% battery left. The zoom while it does take a moment to Focus, gives you the ability to take photos other smartphones just can not. The Iphone can not even compare because when you zoom things get pixelated but with the mod they are clear as day. In My opinion if you like taking photos and want to be able to capture things from a distance with your Moto Z and not sacrifice the photos being fuzzy, the mod is WORTH EVERY PENNY. Besides the fact that it does come with a pretty sleek carry case which will hold the mod which he did not mention.

just got this phone as it was one of the 'freebies' on my plan - the mods look pretty cool, especially the speaker. Just remember this [the mods] is all in its infancy and could become the norm across many phones. I think closer to $125-150 will be the sweet spot for the camera.

Such a throw back, I had the Moto Z force and I guess liked it enough to upgrade to the Z3 a few years later.
I'm sane now and using pixel 4 XL its ok we all make mistakes.
For that price, I could go for this phone.
I still have to compare the software functions with other phones but, it seems rather interesting.

I tested out the Z Play at a Motorola kiosk and holy poop is it good. The phone is really snappy, even though it's midrange.
I'm also only buying the Play for the jack.

This is the video which we can call a perfect review of a smartphone... But I will request you to please also add music play abilities, video play back, temperature test too, when you are uploading any next video... But for this video I would definitely say the best video for camera test of MOTO Z play...😉👍
The Moto Z Play made me a believer with the SD 625 its quite a power efficient SoC and with the Moto UI its lower specs don't bother me at all.
still it has paved the way for tech in this direction. Who knows if modularity becomes standard in cross platform, companies like Nikon and Canon start making DSLR quality mods for phones.
Definitely want the Z2 Force. It is the best Z phone. It supports daydream VR even though Google doesn't anymore
Coming from a person who's primary camera is from a smartphone. That quality looks amazing to me ! And I wear cargo pants anyway so these Moto mods wouldn't be a hinderance in my pockets !

There is good potential. Would be interesting to see them release one with manual focus.
"Only full HD" is plenty for most people. It just struggles in the VR department but without any lenses in front of the screen, you wouldn't tell the difference

I think is not for everyday use, but let's say you go out to some concert, game or any other event. That's when you will appreciate having it around

I actually like the video. Seems very clear and it's better than any other phone camera I've come across. I bought the Sony XA Ultra for the camera but the mod for the moto looks awesome.

In my opinion of owning the Moto Z Force Droid, I have every Mod that has been released. As I recently got into photography a few months ago and buying a Nikon D7000, Its pretty awesome to have the Camera Mod when I am not lunking around my DSLR. Its a great alternative for taking some pretty amazing photos with your phone.
Some things I have to complain about this review is that The battery life is not lowered at all by the camera mod. I use it through out the whole day on one charge taking it off and putting it back on and I Always go to bed with about 40% battery left.
The zoom while it does take a moment to Focus, gives you the ability to take photos other smartphones just can not. The Iphone can not even compare because when you zoom things get pixelated but with the mod they are clear as day.
In My opinion if you like taking photos and want to be able to capture things from a distance with your Moto Z and not sacrifice the photos being fuzzy, the mod is WORTH EVERY PENNY.
Besides the fact that it does come with a pretty sleek carry case which will hold the mod which he did not mention.
