Sticky focus ring in Non-Ai Nikkor-N·C Auto 1:2.8 f=24mm

- The focus ring was very stiff in my old Non-Ai Nikkor-N·C Auto 1:2.8 f=24mm.
But it's "easy" in a way to fix. But when working with a lens like this, you have to take good care when disassemble it, and it's because of the Close-Range Correction System (CRC).
There is a front focus helicoid's that moves the whole lens assembly, and at the same time moves the back focus helicoid's that moves the back lens group, and in between there is also a lens group.
So, when moving the focus ring, all the lens groups shift position in relation to each other
REMEMBER to set a small mark when the helicoid's get off the thread, so it will be possible to assemble it again, And also measure how long is the focus assembly and also is the back lens assembly at infinity.

Thank you so much to share all your knowledge...thanks to you I bought cheap lens with stiff rigs or fungus and I can clean them and relubrificate... I just had a 30euros nikkor Kogaku 24m f2.8, and I was able to dissassembly the focus mechanish to lubrificate it. Thank you again !
That's great to hear Nico, I do the same, finding a lens in a really bad shape and with a lots of fungus or bad haze, just to see how much can be done, and then use the lens to see how it performing.

I use "Odorless Petroleum", it's really good and with very little smell, but I still use a mask to protect myself.
I’ve seen your other video on fine-tuning focus with the later AI-S 24mm and its relatively easy. On this original design the CRC helicoid and the way it interfaces with the main helicoid are significantly different, and it seems less repairer friendly. Could you give any advice on fine-tuning the focus/CRC on this pre-ai version? Or are the millimetre measurements of the helicoids you take in this video the correct measurements/standard specification for every one of these lenses.

great video! Unfortunately I get stuck at getting the first ring of with the rubber glove. Any suggestions to how to get a tighter grip? The lens have no marks of being bend or dropped so I think it is just tight.
And you are very that you have unscrew the very little set on the side of the front ring, before you try to unscrew it, just a note. You can try to gently screw the front ring in again and then unscrew it again, maybe someone else have used some threadlock, in that case you can try to soften it with a few drops of Isopropylalcohol 99% or "Nail Polish Remover" it's also good when small screw are threadlocked.
About rubber lens tools, you can go to the hardware store and in the plumbing section, look for plumbing rubber gaskets, they have them in many different sizes, and the rubber are very sticky, that's what I most of the time use when working with lenses and cameras.

Hi, great video! I was just wondering if there are any cases where you would have to use the compass tool instead of the japanese rubber rings? I can't seem to figure out why one would need both, instead of just one of the two....
Thank's, about the tool's, It's good to have both option when working with lenses because, sometimes the rubber tool is useful and on the other hand the compass or another kind of lens tool is useful, it's all depening of the cases in the lens or camera.
