Caught around 20 bluegills 2weeks ago ... cleaned them , froze em ...going fishing in the morning after work ... hopefully catch 20 more and have a panfish fry on Sunday 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Just tried this a couple days ago and I don't think I'll make panfish any other way. The flavor was amazing and the bones are really not that hard to deal with. You also get MUCH more meat per fish, which is good because there's nothing more I hate than wasting perfectly good food. Next time I'm going to strip the meat off the bones and use it for fish tacos.
Just came on through Cats and Carp. I'm already hooked. The way you carry yourself reminds me of the man that introduced me to fishing. I'm going to have to try this out. never cooked bluegill with skin ever. Looks amazing and probably tastes even better! Subed.
excellent video. I agree with you about cooking the bluegill with the skin on. the tails are very tasty. again, very good video. my mother and I enjoyed watching this. take care, JaimeAstin
great to see someone who knows just how good a whole fried bluegill tastes. Only thing I would add is that you should also try cutting them down both sides of the dorsal fin down to the tail. then make diagonal cuts down both sides. try this and you can peel most of the meat right off virtually bone free. It also helps cook the whole bluegill faster. Great video.
Your right these fish are the best especially when your camping out. Wrap em in some tin foil and some spices. Throw them by the fire... I would never eat the dorsal fin though. Anyway nice video!
I can only eat catfish whole and salmon with the skin on.... I can honestly tell you that there is a lot of flavor in the skin on a fish and I love it that way. Whole or filet with skin on
Nice, might have to try getting one of the Bubba blades to bring along. Good tip about leaving the skin on as well; we always take the skin off of crappie and bluegill.
I walked by the fillet knives in Academy today. Several models of Bubba blade sitting right out in front... I want one so bad lol. I have a fillet knives that work, I just like high quality knives.
I've just been filleting perch, but I do remember when I was a kid that they were scaled and fried,And you had to fight the bones, but I'm gonna leave the skin on some, because I remember that it was delicious.
I just cooked up a batch with the bones and yes it was kick charle tuna in the nuts good I just used egg@milk wash with reg flour and season salt garlic salt and pepper it was yummy
Just watched few of your view and really like the down to earth you are....great 5 fillet pike, sheepshead (and agree they're good eating) and now you gill video...I do the same thing with the gills both leaving skin on and pan frying whole..the best fish anywhere...only thing is now in winter I usually don't scale any fish since I clean them inside.Just wanted to shout out from here in upstate NY tell you great stuff so I had to subscribe...will be watching more.
Easiest way to clean bluegill and shellcrackers is to take a garden hose with a nozzle set to jet and spray against the scales they come right off. My favorite fish to eat.
Sam have you done a video cleaning the fresh water fish taking out eggs and cleaning and frying up , i would love to watch a video with you cleaning and removing eggs and frying up ty :)
My mom used to love the little bait sized ones. scale and gut and eat whole like a potato chip. i gotta admit i do to. #12 or smaller hook and a cane pole.
Missed a lot of meat on the fillets, just follow the backbone to the ribs and remove, remember to remove small pin bones, other then that, still looks great.
Great video Sam! Love eating(and catching) bluegill.... I eat them both ways, but prefer them filleted(skin on of course!) Hey did you see the video of the little girl pulling her tooth with one of your Badass slingshots?
I feel like if you're gonna coat with bread crumbs, deep fry and then tarter sauce ya don't taste the blue gill. It could be a bass and taste the same. Great video though I am really hungry now and wanna go fishing.
Man, Those look so good!! ;-) It is cold outside but, not cold enough to make the ice thick enough... Looks like I am headed for the freezer... Yep... It is all your fault!! Haha!! ;-)
I prefer to just season them with a bunch of stuff then fry them that way. When i add breading i dont like how it makes the meat stick to the bone a little more. Take a fish and just sprinkle some different spices and drop it right in. Mmmmm mmm
Sam great job with the videos buddy entertaining and really informative don't let the anti hunting assholes bother you I don't think they realize in order to see videos like this they have to search for them if they know it bothers them don't look for stuff like this whatever anyway great videos bud keep them coming
Robert Payne what? There's so many bluegill it doesn't really matter because they aren't really commercially sold either so if it's just one dude going out and catching some and eating them then its not bad at all.

Finally someone that knows how to cook a bluegill without filleting! Thankyou
This is how my dad described how my grandparents did it when he was young back in the 60s. I can't wait to show him this video

"kick Charlie in the nuts tuna" ........LMAO Loved the video
Easiest way to clean bluegill and shellcrackers is to take a garden hose with a nozzle set to jet and spray against the scales they come right off. My favorite fish to eat.
Kick Charlie in the nuts good ! Lmao
I usually keep a few 6-7 inch gills and cook them "whole fryer" style just like you did and munch them crispy tails!! Dynamite!!
I know this is an old video but I agree with this guy….always leave skin on. It was how I was taught as a kid.
Sam have you done a video cleaning the fresh water fish taking out eggs and cleaning and frying up , i would love to watch a video with you cleaning and removing eggs and frying up ty :)
thanks for showing how to cook em whole its getting warmer in Arkansas and I'm gonna go get a couple tommorow
And no fish fry is complete without a bottle of Mountain Dew! Lol. Great video. Thanks.
My mom used to love the little bait sized ones. scale and gut and eat whole like a potato chip. i gotta admit i do to. #12 or smaller hook and a cane pole.
I fry bluegill whole with no batter. Very crispy and good.
Missed a lot of meat on the fillets, just follow the backbone to the ribs and remove, remember to remove small pin bones, other then that, still looks great.
If you fry it up, the pin bones become real brittle and won't even notice them
I don't have blue gill or crappie where I live but we got rainbows trout and salmon the trout we just gut them and throw them in the pan
I'm go tomorrow catch me some and cook it the same way😋
Really awesome and educational video. Respect and thanks to you sir
Still one of my favorite fish to catch and eat
Saw the Throwback Dew, hit the Like button, lol
Yum. Need smell a vision, taste a vision, drool, lip-smack, chew, and swallow a vision.
Great video Sam! Love eating(and catching) bluegill.... I eat them both ways, but prefer them filleted(skin on of course!) Hey did you see the video of the little girl pulling her tooth with one of your Badass slingshots?

i use a heavy table spoon and bend the handle back in a u shape to make a better handle
Ur really good at filleting but I never fillet blue gill I leave them hole like u do and they are sososos good
What do u put in the pan and how long do they cook and do u think it would still work with craippi
Looks good Bro!
Man, Those look so good!! ;-) It is cold outside but, not cold enough to make the ice thick enough... Looks like I am headed for the freezer... Yep... It is all your fault!! Haha!! ;-)
Thanks bud. Great video.
You never scrape the silver lining off of the interior of the rib cage ?
Can you do Bass this way? I mean I don't see why not but just asking 👍🏻
love old school bluegills
If you leave the skin on, it's SO much better. You're singing to the choir on this one!
I prefer to just season them with a bunch of stuff then fry them that way. When i add breading i dont like how it makes the meat stick to the bone a little more. Take a fish and just sprinkle some different spices and drop it right in. Mmmmm mmm
Loved the video
