Thanks for making this Joe! For all those that are interested in purchasing a Toybox. We're running a special $199 price for 3D Maker Noob fans - This offer ends soon! bit.ly/2xcCUir Also feel free to reach out to us anytime at hello@make.toys we're always here to chat :)
Might have missed it in Joels review, but will it be possible to add your own (or better yet import via/from thingiverse) models to your own account? I bought one of the units yesterday (grandkids Xmas) and I'm hoping I could build up a private library of stuff I know they both like.
Yes you absolutely can. If you create an account right now, you can navigate to www.make.toys/custom-toys and start loading models there :). If you want to get there directly through the website go to www.make.toys, press the profile button in the top right, and press "creator space"
If I had kids, I would get one of these. This is a neat little ecosystem, and I love the fact your girl is already figuring out she can sell to her friends. It looks like a really good "first step" into 3d printing. If I were just getting into 3d printing, that has just enough of the "training wheel" features to make it a little less confusing to get into without having to worry about slicers and orienting models, but it seems like it would let you get the foundations of 3d printing down before growing into a bigger model. Though, I guess now you know what to do with all those samples of filament, huh?
To be fair, so has mine. I'm looking for parts to custom build a printer, and may ask for a giant heated bed. 400 x 400 is not a cheap bed to build (compared to a 200 x 200, anyway). Hopefully, she has been a good girl and will get a whole bunch of nice spools, and some spare nozzles, to boot!
+The Gentleman Scoundrel funnily enough I am about to test the cr-10 S4 with such a build plate. Question then becomes, how much filament you willing to use for a print hehe
All of the filament? I'm fine with using all of the filament,. I will be waiting for your review of that machine. My only concern about that machine is the inertia you''ll get on a bed that heavy. I don't think a 400 x 400 would replace my 200 x 200 for every day printing, but... I have some crazy "preppers" in my family willing to pay good money for food dehydrator trays about 350mm in diameter, and I think I can make the cost back pretty quick, and they don't get hot enough to hit the glass transition temp of the food safe plastic I've sourced. Plus, I'll be able to do some big costume armor pieces!
What a great review. The point of this printer tested by its target audience. Wonderful result for your daughter and as a dad, I understand its an even more wonderful result for you. Nice work Toybox!
I would love to see an character building app for the kids to make themselves or other characters, different pre slices eyes, hair styles, glasses and what not. I feel like they would love this!
Quits his job, uses all his savings, and forgets one of the key components for quality prints. A cooling fan, other than this I think it's a great printer. One small addition they should make are some cheap covers so the kids don't touch the hot end when printing.
nice one Joe, of all your videos i don't think i have seen you with such a happy smirk on your face, your daughter looks happy too, looks like it has "kickstarted" her interest, time to hide your filament 😁
Can't agree more with you. A small and easy to use printer is something parents should buy for their kids. It's so much fun to see kids get creative and build their own things. Thanks for this review... Now give your daughter a camera so she can make her own reviews :-)
Great review and neat printer. My kids love all the things I print, but haven't been very interested in 3d printing themselves. I think this printer can change that and I'm going to buy one for my 5 year old. Thanks to Toybox Labs for providing the discount for us Noob fans!
this is nice but my plate is not even. right upper corner has no print and lower left has so much distance that it not stick. so is impossible to do something large as box bottom. is there something like level of plate adjustment????
Nice review and potential "stepping stone" - the missing element to me is some sort of rudimentary CAD so kids can create or modify a design. The big question is if your daughter gets bored after a week like kids often do with toys.
That's exactly why we named it Toybox! The printer is not the toy per say, but the toys that come out with it. We actually have a creator space component where children can draw their own toys. We'll be expanding this product line as time goes by.
Thanks for sharing! I just heard of this printer. I see by the video release date that 5 years has gone by. Is the company still around? I also am into 3D printing my grandson loves for me to print things for him. I am on my third printer: mono price mini (original), a printer from kit(s) and scratch made, and the SnapMaker2.0 a350 3in1. I had entertained the idea of rebuilding the MPM and gifting it to my grandson but I don’t think his attention span would make this work. Any information and upgrades on this Toybox would be great.
you should do an update video on this company. 283% funded on September 28, 2017 but... no machines for sale and no updates on indegogo. that's over 6 months
When my son is a bit older I will definitely look into something like this. My 4,5 year old is already a fan of 3D printing but needs to mature just a little bit more :). Thanks Joe for all your awesome video's. PS: my Tevo Little Monster should be arriving next monday or tuesday!
If there is room on the control board adding an optical sensor on the bed base to check you have added the print surface shouldn't be that difficult for them. I'm slightly concerned about the hotend as 200C can be painful to uncalloused children's hands. Some sort of E3D type sock to minimise burns might help.
One would be better off just going for an Ender 3, for example. It has superior print quality and features. Moreover, it can easily be repaired when something eventually breaks. I doubt that you can install a full-metal hotend on this toy.
Joel - Loved the (long distance) review. I just took up on your special offer. My twin grandkids (6 ) are going to have fun this Christmas. They are always saying "grandad, how is it you get to make all this cool stuff". Figure I'll be giving them the tail end spools of my PLA now. You are are one of my favorite UA-camrs I actually just ordered a couple of rolls of filament that I saw you using in a video about the Prusa MK2, Mine (Prusa) turns up on Friday and although I'm in my sixties I'll admit to being as exited as a 14 year old. I currently have a Qidi Tech 1 that's OK,but I have issues both with leveling and with dual extrusion. I'll be selling it to cover the MM for the Prusa just as soon as I can :-) Keep it up, you REALLY deserve more subscribers
+michael jezard thanks buddy for your very kind words. The Mk2 is an amazing machine and you'll see a world of difference in easy of use. Also, age is just a number ;)
Joel - I'd really like to see you get a lot more subscribers. I see that Josef Prusa recommends your video about understanding the purge block (another great video by the way) he links to it in his latest newsletter - that could help. I watched your "creating multicolor objects from solid models" video this morning and that was the last straw - I ordered the MM, knowing I'll be able to use it. BTW: .......................... countdown .....................2 days to MK2
Curious, what did you end up deciding, James? I am trying to decide the same exact thing for my 10 yr old son now. Most sites have the Flashforge finder in their list of recommended, but only a few have the toy box. Yes user reviews seem to be great for toybox. I have literally no 3D printer experience, so this needs to be simple!
Super awesome and amazing printer for kids! This is perfect! Thanks for sharing your experience, or should I say your daughter's, with this printer. Great features for kids to play with and have fun using this printer. I have 3 daughters and i think they would love this printer to have fun with and review its awesome features and print quality. (Hint hint @realtoyboxlabs)
Yo! Glad you love the printer. Unfortunately Joe got our last preproduction printer. If you want the printer for cheap, however, Joe's link is selling the printer at a really great price!
Maybe add some acrylic (added enclosure, yay) and a lock like a washing machine would be a good idea to the timer, also, the nozzle is also hot(ter)... But overall, a certain good device! And yes, there is enough useless electronics killing the brains of our children, this is a good idea, that could even help at school and so on... mine is still too young at 3 but who knows, sonner as I think, this is a go! Cheers! PD: if you allow, your Daughter is adorable, and not difficult to tell it's your princess (also wearing Frozen like mine :-P)
Hey Peter, Only Joel and Joe got to review printers, but I DO wish we had more to give out. I was lucky enough to meet Joe in person at Makerfaire this past year.

+Toybox Labs was an absolute pleasure. Finally seeing my daughter truly getting into 3d printing was an absolute joy for me :)
Looks really nice, I must check this out, thanks😁👍
Might have missed it in Joels review, but will it be possible to add your own (or better yet import via/from thingiverse) models to your own account? I bought one of the units yesterday (grandkids Xmas) and I'm hoping I could build up a private library of stuff I know they both like.

Are you really selling a toybox at a lower price than early bird on indiegogo?
First time i see a kid that young go through the paces of installing filament in a 3d printer. Good presentation. The channel logo was funny.
+Marcos Ramirez she got the hang of it quite quickly :)
3D Maker Noob Kids will always learn faster than adults.🤔
If I had kids, I would get one of these. This is a neat little ecosystem, and I love the fact your girl is already figuring out she can sell to her friends. +The Gentleman Scoundrel yep lol would you believe her Christmas wish list has already changed and included filaments? Lol

Aww, you're a great dad. Good job encouraging her and letting her do her own thing with it.
What a great review. The point of this printer tested by its target audience. Wonderful result for your daughter and as a dad, I understand its an even more wonderful result for you. Nice work Toybox!
Very good summary! I think this is going to be a wonderful addition to sparking the interest in our youngsters!
+Practical Printing absolutely, I truly hope many more companies will follow suit
I would love to see an character building app for the kids to make themselves or other characters, different pre slices eyes, hair styles, glasses and what not. I feel like they would love this!
this made me smile so much! I want this for my niece/nephew!
Quits his job, uses all his savings, and forgets one of the key components for quality prints. A cooling fan, other than this I think it's a great printer. One small addition they should make are some cheap covers so the kids don't touch the hot end when printing.
Just move to new york!
nice one Joe, of all your videos i don't think i have seen you with such a happy smirk on your face, your daughter looks happy too, looks like it has "kickstarted" her interest, time to hide your filament 😁
+Derek Greenhalgh haha, a bit too late I'm afraid. However she does have a few kilos of samples to go through :)
Can't agree more with you.
A small and easy to use printer is something parents should buy for their kids.

Just placed my order using the link!

Shame you can not download the STI files for the items from the web site. I want that doll.
I have a request or you able to print out 28 mm models on the printer I’m curious to see how we would turn out
you should do an update video on this company. 283% funded on September 28, 2017 but... no machines for sale and no updates on indegogo. that's over 6 months

I’m having problems setting up my ToyBox
I can’t connect it to WiFi. I see the toybox’s WiFi, but it says no internet. Any solutions?
Toybox, the gateway drug to the CR-10 or tevo little monster :)
Very cool though
+JAYTEE Tompkins haha I'm scared she will want those soon
Thank you both! Joe, and Toybox Labs! This will be a great way to get my own daughters into 3D printing! I just claimed the first one!
Of the offers that is... and congrats on being a 200% funded campaign!!!
Thanks! I think your daughter will really appreciate her Toybox :)
If there is room on the control board adding an optical sensor on the bed base to check you have added the print surface shouldn't be that difficult for them.
I'm slightly concerned about the hotend as 200C can be painful to uncalloused children's hands. Some sort of E3D type sock to minimise burns might help.
Can you use any kind of filament in it or just their brand
i so want to get one of these! My cousin is one of the people that work at the Toybox company.
is your daughter still into 3D printing 5 years later?
Tell them to paint the bed holder Red not black. Make it easier to know you didn't put the plate back.
One would be better off just going for an Ender 3, for example. It has superior print quality and features. Moreover, it can easily be repaired when something eventually breaks.
I doubt that you can install a full-metal hotend on this toy.
Hi, you mention that we can upload “slice” files from a PC (to print items besides what’s in the library), how do we do this?
My daughter also wants it Joe.
on this Printer can I use any PLA or does it have to be "printer Food"...
+Mike Disher it can use any PLA. My daughter has tried many different types and all worked fine
Very nice concept and as always a delightful review.
+TOPE designs thank you :)

I cant decide between this or flashforge finder for my daughter.

Dose it come with filament
Can you print anything u want
He knows chanel! He is the man:)
When are we going to see the new vertigo ... ?
+TOPE designs might record a video tomorrow :) I posted some photos on Twitter yesterday :)
How much is it
I loved the video! Great commenting on things that could be improved

nice. I'll think about that for a printer for my youngest...
+Mark G it's definitely worth considering :)
Hey Mark, We just extended our campaign so we'll be selling for just a few more days before we move into manufacturing!
No more discount... I would love to buy one with a secret perk! Anyone?
nice review joe .nice
+DARREN NICH thank you :)
Just paid 350 for mine???
Cool stuff
Maybe add some acrylic (added enclosure, yay) and a lock like a washing machine would be a good idea to the timer, also, the nozzle is also hot(ter)... But overall, a certain good device! +el_marto hehe yeah her room is pretty much all frozen and mermaid stuff :)
But it is very cool!
Wow every cool joe
Channel logo lol
Hi Joe …. MAMA
First "3D Printing Nerd" now you, they are obviously spamming all the 3d printing youtube content creators for free reviews.
Hey Peter, Only Joel and Joe got to review printers, but I DO wish we had more to give out. I was lucky enough to meet Joe in person at Makerfaire this past year.
+Peter Ellens if that was the case, then every company does the same thing. We review 3d printers, ergo we need printers to review :)
