I had the chance to review a pre-production unit of a 3D Printer for Kids: the X-Maker. We printed a bunch of toys and my daughter is absolutely in love with her 3D Printer. The App has many tools to create custom toys and art.
Son, this is one I will see many times! So cute, and with Sophie help! Going so soon you will be just a helper on her own projects! Wonderful review, congratulations!! I simple love it!! ☺️❤️
Thanks mom! Well, she is our princess, so we can watch it over and over tirelessly. I am very curious to see the Analytics on a few days and get an “objective” snapshot of how other people go through an almost two minutes montage of a girl they don’t know assembling 3D Printed Toys. 🤣
@@GeekDetour so, you share it with me! 😊👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Looks exactly like the type of printer I need at almost 40 years old
Ha ha ha! Indeed it is super simple to use! My mom finds 3D Printing fascinating, but she found my big printers intimidating. I am absolutely sure she will have a great time with her granddaughter printing stuff together next time she comes to visit us. This one is almost as simple to use as a “paper printer”
Same!
It was great to see a upload from you again. Great video as always.
Oh, thank you! 🥰 Reviews are quite time-consuming… I will start making shorter videos: DIY projects with Arduinos, 3D Printers and Laser Cutters
That is awesome! My grandson would love it!
3D printing is very cool! Kids need help, but they love it.
So happy were getting loads of new videos these days
Hi Duller! Thanks! 🤗 I am super happy too! And exhausted 🥵 Making reviews is extremely time-consuming. On the next months I will make more hands-on videos, making small projects with all the Printers I reviewed recently (and the Laser Engraver)! I also bought an Oscilloscope and I am desperate to begin using it on some Arduino videos.
So much to do! So little time.
@@GeekDetour Nice cant wait to see more videos especially Arduino videos feel free to take some time off between videos if you get tired
Love your videos of ellego and ardiuno when is the next video
I got you by surprise, didn’t I? 🤣 The “next” video (you already watched) has been in the making for a while. Wow, I have many videos in the Pipeline! New 3D printers being tested, and new Laser cutters/engravers too!
I cannot wait to get back into Arduino projects, but first I need to finish the ongoing videos 😁
Great Video!! Thanx!! Cheers
Thank you Jorge! It is a pity I didn’t explore more of the “Themes” before editing the video - we are now exploring them and my daughter is loving to create her own things (like, drawing and printing an “extruded” version of her drawing). Of course she needs a bit of help (she is almost 5), but everything she crates and prints makes her ecstatic 🤩
So cute
Looks like a modified Flashforge Adventurer 4 with all the proprietary parts removed!
Edit: Their "X-Kit" video features an Adventurer 4 so this makes sense that they would use it as a base
I think you are right. They might have made a deal with Flashforge and put most of the energy into making the Apps, backend and the models.
Or a modified adventurer 3: it looks pretty much the same as mine
Dual coolers and a "BLTouch" would probably make this super awesome.
I agree. It would be perfect even for demanding users. My daughter is totally in love with her printer and the App empowers kids to create many different things - the printer as it is now is more than enough for this educational / fun use. Even the discarded rafts she finds them fun to play with.
¿Que especificaciones de que equipo se necesita para esta impresora?
How do I purchase?
where do you get x-maker 3d printers
I wonder how long this will be up before Disney comes nocking
Hi there! What you mean? The Darth Vader model is a fan art (David Eastman doesn’t sell them), it is not part of the models offered by X-Maker… I sliced it independently, to show that you can print anything - not just the X-Maker catalog. (…) Or you mean the video itself?
@@GeekDetour Disney is well known for suing pretty much anyone for anything even slightly related to an IP that they own I do not agree with their policies but I do understand their history for instance they held the copyright to Mickey Mouse for roughly 100 years
Picked up my kids a neptune 3. My 6yo is learning to use it. I wonder if the slicer & library from xmaker for kids is available to all or just those with their printer.
Hi there! Yeah, older kids can perfectly learn how to deal with “openness” of a bigger 3D Printer, and how to save files on a micro-SDCard, etc… The excellent thing on the X-Maker for my 4 years old is the Wifi integration with the iPad App.
To your question: you can create an IME3D account without having bought a product - and you can certainly download the X-Maker App for Windows… and try to save GCode from there (I am trying right now…) to use on the Neptune…
OK, I could make a couple of things on the APP (both iPad and Windows), Upload to Cloud, and the generated STL can be downloaded from your “My Works” space from their website. You could then slice the STL files on your favorite slicer… But, as you can see… Geez… that’s a Marathon 🤣
If you want to try:

I must thank you for your question - you just gave me a couple of ideas for future videos ❤️🤔
@@GeekDetour Cool. I will check that out and see if it is easier for my youngest. I think this printer is an awesome idea. I have 4 kids still at home ranging fro 19 down to 6.
@@GeekDetour i am looking forward to seeing what you whip up. My kids and myself are new to the 3d printing world, so every bit helps.
@@GeekDetour Is the size OK? If use their app to slice the file for other printer.
Is it avadible now?
Does 3d printers save environment or just introduce more waste into the ecosystem? Im not sure still🤔 on the one side it is you who decides what you want on the other side they produce waste too especially when people print stuff they get bored after one day
I would say everything we do while living here is detrimental to nature. 🤷♂️ At least PLA is a plastic made mostly with vegetable sources.
Can we 3D print a toy character downloaded from Google and multi color like Luffy
3D printing in multiple materials (a different filament for each color) is possible, but not automatic in printers like this. Multi-material printers are usually over U$ 1000.
What people do with single material printers (like this) is printing parts separated, let’s say, all blue parts together, change plastic, then all red pieces together, etc. Then later assemble and glue everything.
There are “Rainbow” filaments (like the one in the beginning of the video) that change color, but you have no control, it will change color as it prints up.

I am curious: have you ever backed a Kickstarter Project? Do you know how Kickstarter works?
Valeu!
Agora você descobriu que tem em todos os vídeos né?! 😆 Um grande beijo mamãe!
@@GeekDetour exatamente!!
Are these available to purchase anywhere??
Hi there! I checked again on their Website - but it doesn’t have a buying option. It looks like they are finishing to deliver the last units for the original Kickstarter backers… It’s a shame it is taking so long for it to get widely available…. 🤷♂️
Are these up for purchase? This is exactly what I’m looking for our 8 year old.
It was “for sale” as a reward during the Kickstarter campaign. Isn’t it for regular purchase now? Let me check…
They are actually starting to deliver for the backers. Don’t know when it will be for regular purchase now 😬
I’ll have to keep an eye out, this looks way better then the toy box.
If you notice these for sale please let me know if you don’t mind.
i feel like cosplayers would have an absolute field day with this
Oh, Cosplayers need muuuch bigger printers 🤣 Like an Elegoo Neptune 3 Max (that I am reviewing - stay tuned!)
I have to admit that the ability to print a model with more than one colour should be added with new 3D printers, it would be way cooler.
I agree! 3D printing in color, all at once, already exist and it is not “so much” expensive (but it more than doubles the price of the printer). Realistically we can print multiple parts on different filament colors and assemble the models - it gets very cool! But I did it only two or three times… I am much more into functional parts 🤷♂️
But that’s why rainbow filaments are so popular: you set and forget… and get random happiness on your prints 😂
@@GeekDetour A cmyk print head would be a neat thing to have.
💕👌👍
🥰❤️💋🤣 (you know we can use words too, right?)
@@GeekDetour yep, but i don't do talking that much in real and i don't do here,i prefer enoji's in virtual world, because they can express my feelings and expressions very well, word's are little rough , Pepole can take simple positive comment in really nagative way,so emoji's are better, no one take them seriously😂💕👍
but the app i think is only working with ipad users
Hi there! I could only test the iPad App… We don’t have an Android tablet to test 🤷♂️🫤 Did you test it on Android?
it works on Android and Windows, too.
I think there should be more space to put the filament in.
Hi there! What you mean? In this exact printer the spool support is outside, you can use normal size 1kg spools. There are similar printers that the spool goes inside the door and only fits reduced-sized spools - it is not the case here. Is it or I missed the point? 🤔
@@GeekDetour I’m talking about the door, It doesn’t look like the door will fit with 1kg
Oh, it does work with regular 1Kg spools. In this printer the spools are outside. And I am using normal size 1kg spool perfectly. You can see it on the video when I switch the spool.
@@GeekDetour oh
@@GeekDetour Ok
