An excellent demonstration. Focuses on what guitarists really need to know and highlights what's important to musicians - playback, recording, jamming, improvisation and having fun!
I have the JS8 and I love it. I really love being able to loop a difficult chord change for practise, or a series of tough chords. I can then concentrate on soloing those changes until the sounds are under my fingers. The thing has more sound processing capability than I will ever use. I reckon I could take this to a gig, hook it up through my PA and I wouldn't need anything else. The sounds are great. I also like putting a difficult solo on a flash drive, plugging it in and slowing it down, looping it. This makes transcribing so easy. The machine comes with a lot of loops but many I would never use as I am not interested in such a broad range of styles. I am primarily a jazz player who plays some rock and roll and quite a lot of blues. I quickly discovered that I get the most out of this machine by using my own collection of backing tracks. I have had my JS8 for about 8 years and have used it *a lot* during that time. It is still going strong. Do yourself a favour; buy one.

+sfear6 The JS-10 is line level, not instrument level. If your guitar amp has a line input, then it will work and sound great, but you wouldn't want to plug into the guitar input of a tube amp or something like that.

My brother and I can both jam together with this. Very cool. I subscribed. Will check out more of hour videos. Love that strat. Is it a HM strat or?
Hi, thanks for the review. Does this take external effects pedals like a HX Stomp and Helix? How to bypass the internal amps and effects on this? Thanks.
This product isn't really an alternative to an HX Stomp or Helix. Its primary function is to play along to backing tracks for practice and fun, not an in-depth modeler and effects unit. It has a 1/4" guitar input, so you can add external effects pedals on the front end, going into the JS-10. Yes you can bypass the internal amps and effects.
Thanks, great hands on demo. I'm a visual learner. The demos put out by Roland USA Suck. My only question is since this video was made 6 years ago , does this product have any new features???
Thanks, we're glad you appreciate our demo video! We looked into the firmware version history and it appears the latest firmware version for download on their website is V1.01 which was released in 2013. Our video was made in 2015 so it's very likely we were already using the latest firmware at the time. No new features would have been added since then.
I have a qiestion.. do you know if there is any chance to use any footswitch (custom made or not) to change between clean, drive and distortion channels? I have tried in roland shop with fs6 and fs7 and it was not fully functional. I could use it for one change and then it was not possible to come back to previous channel.. but it was fully functional for only switching songs/recordings and looper.. in order to use it and play in real time it would be nice to have that option as well ;-)
Roland's website for this product recommends: Roland FS-6 & Roland FS-5U. It's unclear if both or just 1 of these are necessary and I haven't seen any operating procedures in the documentation. That said, plenty of these pedals are floating around on the used gears market, so it's a cheap trial-error experiment to buy both and see how the whole thing would work as you wish it does or not.
There are a pair of stereo RCA line outs on the side of the unit that can plug into other line level inputs. You wouldn't be able to connect it to a regular guitar amp through its guitar input, but if your amp has an AUX input for your phone or MP3 player, then you could plug it into another amp using that. You can also use the RCA line outs on the JS-10 to connect it to a PA speaker, stereo, or home theater system.
