This video portrays a Viking era "holmgang" or "holmgång" (island visit) which is a duel to settle arguments, that was usually held on an actual island or otherwise limited area. The combatants would hit each other with their weapons one at a time, and the one that yields or flees, loses.
if one of them fled they would lose their honor, it was usually settled when one of them drew blood from the other. Killing was usually frowned upon during a holmgång.
@@Pethito NP, I appreciate not getting into one of those Viking flame wars of Norwegians vs Danes or Icelanders lol. I'm of Norwegian ancestry and once got into a big argument with a Danish dude. It was so silly.
@@aaronbarlow4376 nah i cant stand this internet overreacting debate shit talk :D people make mistakes, so do i, not a big deal. glad you corrected me :)
Actually they sing the same thing the entire song. First in English, and then in old Norse, then in English again. The lyrics were written by Egill Skallagrímsson, a viking who lived over a 1000 years ago in Iceland
Great reaction. Song was used on the tv show Vikings but is very old. It is based on a Old Norse Poem and Prose, Egils Sagga. It was written in the 1200's but is believed to be based on stories from the 10th century.
Hi lovelies Saltatio mortis has a new Video and song out. Its already trending on YT. I pray for the hunter. Its overwhelming breathtaking wonderful. Please do a reaction
You make it sound like you think it is their song. Well, it isn't. After searching, I'm not even sure where it comes from. It is mentioned as heard in an episode of Vikings. But the way the information I found was written, it may be an older song. After that appearance on Vikings it has been covered multiple times. The Saltatio Mortis version being a notable one. If you like the song itself, look up the Voiceplay version. Oh, and of course you don't want to miss the Klingon version either. If it's more Saltatio Mortis that you like, they have been around for a loooooooong time. Take a deep dive into the goodness of this rabit hole!

Hello from Germany :)
I am sooooo happy you checked out Saltatio Mortis, these guys are one of my all time favorite Bands
I believe this song has verses in old Icelandic as the song is from the Icelandic Eddas.
@@aaronbarlow4376 correct. He sings in Icelandic, and even had training in the language to nail the pronunciations (as much as possible) :)

Yeeees I Love Saltatio Mortis ♥
Thank you so much for this reaction. Awesome. Saltatio mortis is one of my favorite bands. 🥰
They made their clothes all by themselves!! All actors are part of the german medival and cosplay Community!!
Fellow German progmetallers Vanden Plas covered their song Krieg Kennt Keine Sieger and vocalist Alea collaborated in it. It's a great song about war.
This is TRUE VIKING NORSE MUSIC!
Saltatio Mortis is latin for "Dance of Death" 👍

They did a cover of Hypa Hypa from Electric Callbow. Y'all need to check that out

Viking music, sung in icelandic language that maybe only 400.000 people on the whole planet speak and understand !
Angst by rammstein and gates of ekrund by windrose are great too
The concept of the music video itself was inspired by the video game Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
German Metal
Wiking Wedding 😂
how do you like ensiferum, shaman, finntroll, tanzwut and finally inextremo?
