I have never heard this song before, but words as "Finsterwacht" and "Rondra" are very familiar. It seems to me that the story is taking place in the universe of the german pen & paper roleplaying game "das schwarze Auge" (the dark eye). I used to visit this world quite often in my youth.
It is, indeed - "Die Finsterwacht" seems to be a new storyline in that universe.
That's right. It's kind of a collaboration with Ulisses Spiele, the company behind The Dark Eye and the world Aventuria. The editor-in-chief of The Dark Eye Niko Hoch and the famous german author Bernhard Hennen, who wrote some epic novels in the world of Aventuria, have cameo appearances in this music video.

Saltatio Mortis - a "medieval rock band" and "Blind-Guardian" - German metal veterans of progressive/power/symphonic metal, who have already strongly influenced many international bands. For me, a very unusual collaboration, because Blind-Guardians' epic compositions (15 albums) are actually only sang in English . Hans ("Hansi") Kürsch, the lead singer, is a brilliant "storyteller" and his voice is a true elemental force. You shouldn't miss them any further. It is the first single from the upcoming concept album "Finsterwacht" by Saltatio Mortis, a homage to the German tabletop role-playing game Das Schwarze Auge (DSA)/The Dark Eye (TDE). The box contains the CD, a novel, a tabletop adventure book (in the style of Choose Your Own Adventure) and dice. Saltatio Mortis is a German medieval rock band that also incorporates other musical styles. The group that sets out to light the signal fire to warn the lands of invading orcs is the full band Saltatio Mortis.
Blind Guardian is featured in the form of lead singer Hansi Kürsch, who sings alone or together with lead singer Alea in many parts.
The Finsterwacht is a series of signal towers in the mountains of the Finsterkamm, as the last line of defense between the lands of humans and orcs in the county of Heldentrutz, part of the Duchy of Weiden in the Middle Realm, on the continent of Aventuria. The two-part canon towards the end is a prayer to the goddess of war, Rondra :)
Bernhard Hennen is a well-known fantasy author (The Elves), who also wrote the novel in the concept album package with Torsten Weize (not in the video). He dies on the battlefield as he hands over the map. Niko Hoch is the editor-in-chief for The Dark Eye at Ulisses. He is on the wall at the end.
PS: The video was filmed in 4 days, with the help of many LARPers - hence the great costumes :)
At 2:11 in the video you see Bernhard Hennen (in his role as a dying knight). He is the best-known german author of fantasy novels and also wrote stories for the german role-playing game system "The Dark Eye". 🙂

Saltatio Mortis is also a very good Liveband. You should react to "My mother told me " "Pray to the hunter " and "The dragonborne comes ". Good Songs and videos. They made also one of the versions from" Hypa Hypa " with Electric Callboy.

You saw Alea (the lead singer of Saltatio Mortis) in the "Feuerschwanz - Warriors of the world united video".
The song tells part of the story of DSA for Das Schwarze Auge [DSA, The Dark Eye]. It is a tabletop game like D&D, and you actually get the game when you order the album, which I think is seriously cool.
I thought the same until he mentioned the fighting "men vs women". Actually I think he saw "My Mother tol me" from Saltatio Mortis. :)

Howdy! Thanks for your reaction, it was very entertaining to watch. I'd like to give you a rundown of the important people, in order of appearance.
Alea: vocals. Blond guy with the mohawk, he's the first one to wake up after the first battle scene
Luzi: Bagpipe player and music video director. He gets an arrow to the neck.
Bernhard Hennen: the guy who gave the scroll to Alea. One of the main authors of DSA, the RPG the album is concepted around.
Frank: bass. Black hair, no beard. He dies at the tree.
Falk: hurdy gurdy, bagpipes. He's the grizzled looking man with grey hair and beard. Also contributed to DSA as an author.
Jean: drums, guitars, backing vocals, piano. He's got black hair and salt and pepper beard. Runs the band's podcast (in German)
Till: guitars, bouzouki. Curly haired, he sacrifices himself to save Alea in the forest.
Elsi: bagpipe player. He's the bald guy. Builds every pipe instrument that the band uses himself.

As of the style of Music: I'd call it Medieval/Folk-Metal.
Now Blind Guardian, the other band featuring here (who did contribute to the Music but had no business in gong LARPing like that) are supposed to be among the inventors of European Power Metal.
But like Saltatio Mortis, they have a reputation for Fantasy-themed songs.
