Death scream in gba version is actually taken from Heretic, which in itself was a modified Doomguy death scream. So Doomguy voices all bionicles in that game.
Flandrew basically only pointed at that, and the GBA's version controls, it'd be a fun fact to mention that, but he didn't because he didn't look into the games fully properly, and just assumed this was good enough to get away with, meanwhile a random commenter knows more about the game itself
Watch someone else then, because Flandrew was incapable of describing the different versions of this game properly, it's highly unlikely he'd try for an unreleased/fan released game, in fact him mentioning it here only took away from what little was said about the games this video was about.
Are you in the middle of your "lets watch this 6 hours long youtube video about Bionicle lore" phase, or are you just about to dive into the rabbit hole?
That fan game, Masks of Power: Legacy, is how I invisioned that cancelled Bionicle game and I was unaware it was cancelled. So when I got my hands on 2003 game I was disappointed, but still played it like 7 times.
Yeah, so the problem with the console/PC version of Bionicle The Game was that the developers kept putting off working on it till they had like just half a year left. The developers admitted to this a while ago that this was like a homework essay they ended up doing in the last minute.
Man, I also remember Slizer and Robo-Rider. Yet I keep forgetting they "evolved" into Bionicle, Bionicle just stands so tall that I can't keep in memory how they actually grew from these earlier, smaller series.
i had the gamecube version, and wether my game was corrupted or because i was just stupid, i couldnt/didnt save. whenever i wanted to play that game i had to start in the beginning. luckily it is a short game and i had a lot of fun with it. i absolutely love the way makuta looks in the game and while the sound design is admittedly lacking in punch, makutas attack he does in his intro cutscene felt so powerful to me. 8:42 i could hear this clip in my mind.
Bionicle still rules! And yes, I would like to see a video on the cancelled game. And maybe talk about the new fan game that's been in the works. There's a alpha version you can play for free which doesn't look as good as the new one there making, but was still interesting to see Bionicle in a better representative light.
I've spent 28 years on this Earth, 25 of which spent owning and collecting Bionicle, and I only now learn about the canceled game? I'm downloading it right away, thanks Flan!
There was a first person view Bioncle game that I played on the computer when I was little. You played as one of the little guys and explored the island solving puzzles. I didn't get super far into it. I got stuck a lot but I had fun.
Back when games that werent finish got canceled instead of getting released with a bunch of dlcs followed. Broke my fan heart seeing what ended up not being in the game. 😢
I really want to see this as a Hack n Slash game. Also, I thought I was the only person who got stuck on the parts you mentioned, Flandrew. I guess I am not alone after all. Thanks man. 🙂
I loved the GC game so much that i couldn't go to the family Christmas the year it came out without it and my entire GC set up so i could just keep playing at my aunt's place. I beat it at her house and formed a core memory of that room, the lighting, the end of the game, and my older brother watching me do it. My aunt's place burned down unfortunately as it was on top of a pizza place that had a bad oven fire
I'm kinda glad i didn't play any Bionicle games as a kid. I was a big fan of the sets and the designs and all the changes would have driven me bananas. It really feels like the game developers just made something completely different to what the toys were. I mean, the only action feature the toys had was hacking and slashing. They had swords and axes and such. Also they are robots wearing masks, what sense does it make having them have facial expressions? It really is a shame the cancelled game is the one i would have wanted to see. I'd even go as far as to say i'd prefer having nothing over having dumb adaptations.
oh man, that gba game brings back so many memories.. The thrill of getting it from the book fair catalogue to the pain of actually trying to play it. Turned me off of iso games for a good decade
Just seeing this got me excited. Normally content creators release things when they're relevant, talking about Batman when a new Batman movie is coming for example. There's a fan Bionicle game called Masks of Power that has an indefinite release on steam that I thought might've stealth dropped. No luck. Haha
I never knew Takanuva could fly during the final boss, and I've beaten the game multiple times (and still enjoy playing it from time to time). Also I remember seeing trailer footage featuring Lewa Mata and being quite disappointed he wasn't in the game.
I always viewed The EA game as a Childhood Karmic Punishment for me. I really wanted this game bad from all the Lego Magazine ads and snuck into the chrismas presents early to play because I couldn't and wouldn't possibly imagine it to be bad. After getting my console taken away for a few days when I got caught I got it back and they let me play it early since there wasn't any point in hiding it again. For a whole day I thought I was enjoying it, then I realized I made it to the end of the game by the end of the night and finished it the next day. Really stung to find out years later that Canceled PC game was almost exactly what I wanted from this game and was almost completed before being dropped in favor of THIS.
I actually first bought the console game on PC, and it basically bricked my machine (no pun intended). Then I traded it in for the Xbox version, and it wasn't really that hard, but probably only because I had grown up playing insanely hard puzzle adventure games.
I played the PC game and thought it was interesting. Quite a shame the game was cut down the way it was for deadline reasons. The canceled game looks really fun and a lot better than what we got.
So, "Slizers" is what they were called. I had 2 of em when i was young. Never had the ones that i really wanted, but i have fond memories of playing with them. ANd now, Lego is all in on licenses and other trite instead of doing great Original stuff...
Probably the three most memorable parts of this game to me were 1) The Bohrok legit *scream,* and it's delightfully off-putting, 2) Son Goku voiced Makuta Teridax, and 3) Makuta Teridax himself actually looked really cool, as did his arena, which was effectively some form of Hell. Also forgot Gali Nuva had actual cheeks, so fun reseeing that.
Funny to think what kids back in 2003 were enjoying in other parts of the world. Here in Brazil (and South America) in general, at this time people only cared about anime to the point those western franchises simply didn't have room to breathe.
@@goranisacson2502 Lego is but was never a 'thing', it's just there on the stores and kids sometimes get sets but I never saw a single kid (even in my time) actually asking for a lego set. I do remember Bionicle on Cartoon Network but my guess is that since it was only on cable, most kids never heard of it (back in the day at least).
I had both the PS2 and GBA version growing up. I found a complete copy for the PS2 a few years ago and am still on the hunt for the GBA cart. I've never beat either version cause I was a dumb child haha. I remember really enjoying it lots so I will eventually beat it like I have with other games I played growing up.
I never made it to the Pohatu-level as a kid 😅 I was stuck when the Bohrok rolled around Gali and I were never able to kill them... Haven' t played it since 😕
YES!!!!!! Bionicle the game, this is what Im talking about, the many memories I have with Bionicle, oh the nostalgia Flandrew brings I hope one of these days Flandrew will review The Legend of Spyro trilogy, another game released across multiple platforms.
I’m kinda sad that LEGO doesn’t make big games for their original properties anymore. However, it’s definitely a better move to just focus on the toys and TV shows.
You should totally check out Bionicle Heroes on GBA and DS. The GBA game is a totally solid top down shooter while the DS game is also a totally solid first person shooter.
Idk if this is a hot take, but the toa designs in the game are peak. Wish the movie followed the same art style, it would have been great to see those designs in better graphics
I never got into Bionicle, i still don't get it but i respect it and this was fun. Just a thought, imagine if Bionicle's worked as toys to life in the games.
not me learning 20 years later that taka nuva could fly in the last stage ... i don't know how much time as a kid i restarted the level because of the fallings rocks :')
Not a hack and slash because "Bionicle's just not about that." Tahu and Kopaka had swords, Lewa had a friggin' axe, and Pohatu had literal steel toes, for kicking things, with his super-speed that his mask gives him. Not to mention the toys were actively designed around rotational mechanisms that let them *swing their weapons.* What, pray tell, is the ol' Bonkle about then, marketing lady from 2003?
So, LEGO cancelled The Legend of Mata Nui in part due to a perceived lack of quality... but allowed _THIS_ to come out without complaint? I really would like to see you do a proper video on The Legend of Mata Nui. Also, a video on all of the different versions of BIONICLE: Heroes would be amazing.

Ah, yes, year 2003, when I got a Takanuva set, a Bionicle the Mask of light VHS and the pc game from my parents... Best Christmas ever
I'm guessing this is the year of "remember Bionicle? Man I'm very nostalgic for it", since it just hit me like a truck in the past 2 weeks or so.
Are you in the middle of your "lets watch this 6 hours long youtube video about Bionicle lore" phase, or are you just about to dive into the rabbit hole?

would love to see a video of that cancelled bionicle game, and definitely Heroes on ps2. That game was so good
